Hi guys,
i need to use my tp2 as dialup usb modem trought my pc. I rember that i can do it with a old htc tytn II ...
Now the qestion is: can i do the same with a tp2 ? I need install a driver ? Which ?
I need use the tp2 for connect to a remote modem NOT for share a internet connection.
Thanks in advance.
create a new connection use cellular line enter the number and user and pass and whatever else then go to internet sharing but use that connection. and it will actually dial to use as dial up...
but i dont really see the point because even tho its dialing a number isnt it still using data FROM the carrier because it has to transfer?
Hi,
thanks for your reply.
I need to connect my htc tp2 to my notebook using a usb cable for start a dialup connection trought windows.
In really i have install on my notebook a RemoteAccess Software that use a dial up modem (and for this i would use my htc) for a number and connect t remote appliance
So i thinks that if i create a new connection cellular line on my tp2 is a not good solution.
About 4 years ago i rember that can do it with my htc tytn using a usb driver form htc cd-rom and install it on my windows system.
Now anybody have you any idea for do it with my tp2 ?
thanks in advance.
Hi ,
anybody have a idea ?
thanks
The previous answer is the way you need to go.
Your speaking in circles, if your PC is dialing a number you need to replace that with your phones connection.
In other words, whatever software on your pc that needs to connect to the internet should use one of the connections you setup, one being "Cellular".
Updated....
I think after a few reads I get you.
Your PC is dialing an access number directly into a remote server?
So you need the phone to just be a telephone line for the PCs modem to dial over?
And you would like to know how to do this through USB?
Is this correct?
I don't know how to do that but my clarification of your question may help get you an answer.
Question can't the server be access by IP address?
Then you could use the phones internet connection.
Good Luck.

Anybody have a idea ?
Thanks in advance-
I used to do this (dial-up) and since I switched to Verizon PC card I no longer remember how I did it... I think I installed a usb modem driver for my phone, but it wasn't a Touch Pro2...

Two options: which one below is true or possible?
1- It is possilbe to Connect my Laptop to internet via Dialup connect. on pocketpc phone? and connect my Laptop to pockect pc phone via Bluetooth.
Or should I use the dialup connection on my laptop to connect to internet using Wireless modem on my pocket pc phone?
does this make sense?

I've successfully connected my XDAIIs to laptop for internet access.
On USB craddle, you can
1. Laptop connected to internet ( dial up / lan / whatever ) --> XDAIIs sits on craddle and connect to Active sync ---> XDAIIs can access internet
2. Use XDAIIs as the dial up modem via GPRS and your Laptop is able to access internet. This option u will need "HTC HUB" modem driver.
IrDA, you can
1. Use XDAIIs as the "Virtual" dial up modem via GPRS and your Laptop is able to access internet. This option u will need IrCOMM2k for emulating IrDA port on your laptop to see XDAIIs as its modem on its com port.
Bluetooth

Hi there,
Follow the steps below.Kindly note that to access your ISP, your SIM card should have Data Services enabled from your service provider. Also, the dial up number should be PSTN Number....viz nos start from 1 cannot be dialed from a GSM Network.Check thiis with your Network service provider.
1.FIrst of all pair your device with your laptop BT, so that your laptop checks the services which your PDA offers viz Serialport,DUN., Activesync etc...
2.Now, go to Network connections on your Laptop and opt for make a new connection.Just take care that you should opt for Bluetooth Modem while selecting the Modem.Rest all is same as you had done for your ISP.
3.Now, just dial the connection...your phone shd be able to maka a data call.

How about direct dial up to ISP/PSTN from pda phone?
Can we do that?
Imagine, go anywhere only with pda phone.
Yes one can do that For doing so one has to select the "Cellular Line" while making a new connection on phone and input the dial up number provided by service provider..I suggest consult your service provider for doijg this

You can only get up to 9.6kbps dialing up to an ISP account (CSD service, typically USD$9.99/mo). With GPRS you can get at least 28.8kbps... That's why GPRS is more expensive (typically USD$19.99/mo)...
Now unless you plan to just browse gopher sites (gopher://quux.org/)... I don't think CSD is worth the trouble...

GPRS is fine, but expensive in the UK. It is £2.35 per MB with an 02 monthly contract. Unless you get an 02 Pay As You Go SIM and 'bolt on' 02 Active5. It's £4 for 5mb.
If you use simple old fashioned dialup PSTN/ISDN you can use (for example) a free 0845 dialup (UK2.net) and use your bundled minutes instead.
OK it's slower, but I just want email headers and have over 800 minutes rolled over this month!!

Windows Mobile 6 devices offer Internet Sharing feature for Bluetooth and USB. It works in this way that you start Internet Sharing application inside of your Windows Mobile phone and then other devices can share the Internet connection. What if you could fool Windows Mobile phone and instead of Bluetooth use WiFi? Would it be possible? Yes, it is:
how to use Internet Sharing over WiFi, which essentially makes the Hermes an Access Point.
Do the following:
1) Open Settings->Internet Sharing. Enable IS for Bluetooth PAN.
2) Change HKLM\Comm\ConnectionSharing\PrivateInterface to "TIACXWLN1" (it should currently be "BTPAN1").
3) Open Settings-> Connections -> Wi-Fi. Select Network Adapters tab. Click IEEE 802.11b/g Compatible Wi-Fi.
4) Enter IP address 192.168.1.1 and subnet mask 255.255.255.0. Click OK.
5) Select Wireless tab. Add New.. to add the Network name for your ad-hoc network (I prefer "adhoc"
6) Set the client computer to use the same ad-hoc network. Client will receive an IP address from the device (don't need to manually set the IP).
I got this from a different website.

Edward, Can you plse explain why you set the wifi adaptor to a fixed IP?

Thx for an explanation.

I tried the steps to the letter however, I am unable to connect. I tried on one device running Schaps 3.54c & the other vp3G. I get confused after I complete the step "select wireless tab then add new." The new wireless network shows unavailable on my device" I think I'm unsure how to configure the connection on the PC side. I'm unable to get the wireless configurator to allow me to input a specific IP address. I'm using Windows XP Pro. Any help would be greatly appreciated.
OK, I have been resisting, but why would you do this.
If you are using wifi to access the Internet, and the phone and PC both have wifi (in order to use wifi sharing), why not just access the wifi directly from the PC? Sorry to be thick, but I don't see why you would want this?

Actually, it came from this site - we've been discussing it for days in the Development and Hacking forum! It was in this post by Fluxist who'd discovered it in the first place, and the other sites have been following suit... we're working on a more elegant way to do it now. And you directly quoted his post!
I'm going to be trying to write a full-on NAT router for it I think, although we're seeing if we can do a basic version for now.
man, i cannot belive this..

I was thinking the same thing. I frequently stay in foreign hotels in which are "unwired." I'd love to use my phone as the registered device when buying wifi so that I could make VOIP calls and check my e-mails on ground and tether it to my notebook back in the roam. In Dubai, you can get hooked for $30 a day for wifi.

Heh, it's cool dude - PPCGeeks got it from us - but check your research ;-) No point having duplicate threads.
When your PDA is connected to a wireless WiFi (not cellular) network, it is possible to "share" this connection with your PC. Thus you can browse the web on your PC by using the PDA's WiFi.
The connection sharing is done by two programs: WMTunnel and SerialTunnel. WMTunnel runs on the PDA and connects to the internet. SerialTunnel runs on a PC and acts as a "gateway" by accepting connections from your web browser and forwarding them to WMTunnel. Both are connected to each other via serial line (real COM port or Bluetooth SPP).
More detailed explanation: HERE
Really dont want to piss on your fire but have you seen chainfire's WMWifiRouter? http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=357152
As far as i know, wmwifirouter acts like a wifi access point and shares the cellular data connection.

Gotta read the posts before responding. WifiRouter will not do what he's talking about.
I can't get it to work with WM5 SP and also does this work with USB to Smartphone instead of bluetooth?
Yes, it will work fine using USB. You can ignore the steps using Bluesoleil since that is for BT SPPIO.
Im trying to run WMTunnel but I get a error. This is on WM5 Smartphones.
And what's the port number for the USB?

Hi. Smartphone version will be available later.
It won't work over USB. (Serial port or BT SPP is required)
Run a search on this site for "INTERNETSHARING"

Awesome, it does exactly what it says on the 'tin'. I've just bought myself an iPod Touch and using this software, I can use my 3G connection on my HTC Trinity to download from iTunes or surf the net on the iPod, if I happen to be in a non-wifi hotspot. Its like have a 3G iPhone, before they are released and without the tie in to O2.
This thread is chalk full of stupid. It's as if nobody is actually reading the title of the thread or the first post. wtf?
Does anyone know if this is possible, sometimes my router decides to break all the wired connections, and just doesnt work for no apparent reason whatsoever, but the WiFi works fine.
It would be nice to still be able to use the 'net when this happens.
Cheers, Mike.

Hi,
I've got a PC, a laptop with wifi and my Artemis.
Now, I connect to the internet on my PC through cable, and I use Activesync (through USB) to do internet-stuffs on my phone.
But now I'd like to share the internet on the phone through wifi with my laptop?
Is this possible?
I've seen the hack to change the internet sharing "PC connection" from bluetooth to wifi (regedithack Privateinterface), but the "network connection" only shows my GPRS-connection, not Activesync.
How can I change that?
I *assume* I need to change the registry-key for PublicInterface?
But into what do I need to change it?
Or do I need some kind of proxy-software or something?
Nobody has an idea?

hook a wifi router up =)
other than that maybe put a bluetooth receiver on the pc and connect the phone to it?
I'm useing kavanas 6.1 rom i tweaked it a little but point being when i plug my dash into my comp and it syncs with active sync my phone accesses my computers internet connection which i think its designed to do. how do your internet and active sync settings look like?
under your USB to PC settings under connections do you have the Enable advanced network functionality checked?
Use ActiveSync to "pass through" this computer. That means the connected device can use the computer's network connection as if it were its own. You can use this feature to perform tasks such as downloading non-Outlook e-mail messages, to connect directly with Microsoft Exchange, or to browse the Internet.
Important Note For additional security, disable network bridging on the PC (specifically, bridging to a Remote NDIS adapter) before connecting to the PC to pass though to the Internet or a network. For more information on network bridging, see Windows Help on the PC.
Click Connection Settings.
Select Open ActiveSync when my device connects.
In the This computer is connected to list, select a connection to which this computer should connected when passing through ActiveSync.
thats from activesyncs help.
i guess i never realized it did that...yet i do it everyday...when its plugged in, edge doesnt even try to connect, it defaults to the pc
Thanks
