You have downloaded it from the Microsoft website?
Well, yea I did. But now it sounds that there is no official 6.1 update for some phones. I don't know, im new to this stuff.
Mh, there is no choice for a download from microsoft. Are you sure you download an update to Windows Mobile 6.1 and NOT to Windows OFFICE Mobile 6.1?
Like here: Microsoft Office Mobile 6.1: Upgrade
Later there will be an update also for the HTC touch but not now...
Hey, what you've downloaded is a smartphone edition. Your HTC Touch requires a Touch-screen version, which is known as the 'Professional' edition eg. WM 6.1 Professional. You should go to the 'Elf' section in this forum instead of this. This section is for users who do not possess a HTC-built Windows Mobile devices.

http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=366424
and if your touch has 128mb ram, its called an elfin, and if it has 64, its called an elf. its very important u dont get them mixed up.
the amount of ram you have can be found by going to settings, then the system tab then device information
Hope ive helped

Now I'm currently with Verizon Wireless. The service is exceptionally well. Now I know the HD2, or HTC Leo is rumored to debut on T-Mobile. I know there's an HTC Passion or HTC Dragon coming to Verizon Wireless, with the exact same stats of The HTC HD2 or HTC Leo. I've been a fan of Windows Mobile especially as of lately with the Windows Mobile 6.5. Android doesn't have the eye candy I'm looking for and it really turns me off they only allow you 256MB for applications on your phone. Windows Mobile allows you to install apps to your SD card, which is a major plus for me. Plus there are rumors that Windows Mobile may get access to the Android Marketplace.
With that being said, I want to get the HTC Passion, but I'd like to have Windows Mobile 6.5 installed on it, instead of the Androids 2.0. Is that possible? I know it can work the other way around, but can it work this way? Please let me know ASAP....if so, can anyone tell me how?

I'm pretty new to Android, but I am pretty sure you can do this with APP2SD

I would like to know this as well...
I am pretty sure I am going to convert to Android soon, but I would feel a lot more comfortable with the transition knowing that I could go back to WM if I change my mind... or at least that the possibility exists and is being worked on.
hello
i'm concedering buying HTC Desire. But, for my business i have to be able to run one windows mobile app on my mobile phone.
Is there any emulator for Android so i can run one windows mobile application or if not, is there posibillity tu remove Android and install Windowse Mobile instead?
All help welcome!
Thanks

No no no no
If you want to run WM apps get a WM phone, or find an equivalent Android app. If there isn't an equivalent, write one
Or you can buy HTC DH2 with WM and install froyo 2.2 with dual boot.
Yea I believe the hd2 would be the logic choice for you and as mentioned it can run Android on the side
I think i`m going to get a HTC HD2 as the desire is crap, I`m really staring to hate it.
What a logic - desire is crap, because it cant run win mob app, lolz .... lolz ....
chances are with a wm app, it won't run on wp either... so something with 6.5 is probably as far as you could go without getting it redeveloped for android/windowsphone anyway...
why so uptight about winmo phones.... ?? my desire ( it runs Andriod ) , works with office ( 2000,2003,2007,2010 ) ( microsoft ) ... all areas... windows ... win 2000 up to win 7.... infact there is nothing it can not do that I need to run my bussiness... ( bar I must root it ... but need to get my XXXX in gear and sort out my goldcard !! ) LOL
thank you.
you all have been really helpfull

Hi, is it posible to install WM 6.5 onto the HTC Desire HD?
I mean not as a double system, but instead of Android...
My company does not support either Android or WM 7 (email exchange software and communicator software which I must have) so I pretty much must get the HTC HD2 unless I could tweek the Desire HD to work with WM 6.5 until we get Android support in the company. The Desire HD has a better camera and screed so I would prefer to get it instead of the old HD2...
Any thoughts?

windows mobile is not open source like android, and thus cannot be adapted to non windows mobile handests without considerable work, as yet not one developer anywhere has expressed any intrest in a project like this and on a side note, as you do not own a licence for windows mobile (that you would get with a wm phone) a project like this could be seen as piracy
If your company requires you to check email on the move then surely it's their responsibility to provide you with a suitable phone to do so?
That's how it works at most places I've worked. Where I work now people who need to check work emails remotely get a Blackberry, but most still have their own personal phone too.
What exactly are you unable to do on the DHD that requires WM6.5???

It's not such a crazy request... I've got certain specialist software on WM6 which the developer isn't releasing on Android or any other platform.

As in they can't justify the cost of making a new version.

Hi,
thank you for your quick reply. My company has an exchange email software which connects to the main server giving the phone a "blackberry" function. It is not pop3 and we do not have a webmail due to security reasons (or possibly lack of enough resources to maintain it) The software is supported either on WM phones or Iphones. Symbian or Android are not supported. As I basically can chose any phone available from Vodafone, I chose the DHD (yes, I could also get a blackberry but I do not like them) but since the "switch" is not possible I will probably just pick the HD2
Thank you all for your fast replies
Regarding the WM licence. Yes, you are right and I was actually not thinking about it at all! Thanks for the reminder... Do you think it would be possible to get a WM7 phone such as the HTC Mozart or Trophy and install WM6.5 on it? Meaning, I am paying for WM but am installing an older version onto it???
I will post the question onto the proper forum page...
Is your company giving support for iPhone? Might as well remove the support of iPhone too.

Not...
The DHD is an android phone and not a windows phone, simple as, get a HTC HD2, that runs Win Mobile 6.5 and has a pretty good spec...
No, Windows Mobile will not run on the Desire HD.
Further, the Exchange functions will enable your employer to remotely wipe your phone, including all personal files and contacts you have, at their whim (which will be if you leave the company). Never, ever connect your personal devices to your company network, as most policies for that connection will state that they can inspect and monitor any communications or data on that device. Not saying you're hiding anything, just that your personal comms could be monitored by your employer.
Either have them purchase a Blackberry / WM phone for you, or get hold of one from eBay and use that.
Ok, now DreamForceTeam launched Windows Mobile 6.1 on Windows Phone 7 (HTC 7 Pro) and showed that on the movie (what is next ?):
Now this shows how terrible windows mobile was. I would do this on my trophy, but seeing how putting a laggy os on a phone designed for wp7 is so pointless, I'd rather put windows phone (hopefully tango) on wm devices.
Yessss, with this we may have the chance of using FpseCE on WP7!
Agree

Very well said, couldn't agree more. The fact you can do something doesn't mean you should. I was a WM 6.5 fan but would NEVER go back to that after over a year with the constantly improving WP7.

You know...the video shows pretty good performance over all on it. Yea, 6.1 was a dog but, There is still a hanful of apps I would use on it that there is no WP7 app for.
If this was downloadable, I would download it to try it. It would be nice to bring back some App memories...
Is this only on a custom rom ?
That's sort of nostalgic. But like I'd never put Windows 95 on my current computers, I would also never go back to the Windows Mobile days. Sick of constant lock ups, bad memory management, overall laggy behaviour and such. If I wanted to use Windows Mobile again, I'd rather buy an HD2 from craigslist or eBay than flash it on my WP device.
If we could use equalizers and audio effects, I would love to see dual boot.

Did you even watch the video ? He was running ON TOP of WP7, at one point in the video he hit back and it jumped back to WP7.
If it's like shown, an emulator, I'm great with it, if I have to flash my device, screw it, dont want it.
If I can dump 6.1 on my WP7 device to run when I want to, it opens a whole world of 10+ years of Apps that will run on it (and there is a lot more of 6.0+ apps than there is WP7 apps)
I would want to dowload it and install cabs to it, if I can't do that, then I have no needs for it.
I would much rather use an emulator on my phone than waste $150-200 on a HD2 that ran Windows Mobile 6.5 anyway.

I do miss the equalizers I had loaded on WM 6.X. I miss them a great deal. It is the one thing I am still waiting for in WP7. I have found replacements for most all of the other apps I used on WM over the last few months.

I gotta admit that I didn't watch the video. I just assumed it was the one I found over at Twitter last night where a modified bootloader was shown that started WM on a WP device. An emulator would certainly be nice to play with. But I don't see me using it for more than just bringing back some nostalgic thoughts.
I dont see the reason for the hate....it may not make sense to run win95 on currrent hardware but u cant apply the same logic when wp7 is missing features/apps wm had.

I wouldn't call it hate. Lack of comprehension maybe. If I felt Windows Phone was missing features and/or apps I was really dependent on, I simply hadn't bought into it.

IMO, going backwards not a good idea.

It would rock to have Garmin Mobile XT up and running via this loader on WP7. I'm still running WM6.5 because of this software.
This will prove very useful for running emulators, flash, and legacy apps. Don't dis it. It's an app, not a flashed os. I'm wondering, though, if they could use any of the code from this to develop an android emulator. I mean, my windows phone rocks, but extra compatibility is always welcome. Keep it up DFT
i would use just to trick people into thinking i flashed it onto my focus

Well if you have a keyboard...
