Hi guys!
I'm using a Trinity (WM6; Build 17944.0.3.1), everythings is great - except whenever I do a soft reset my messaging accounts are no longer there (Yahoo, Gmail, etc.) default accounts such as Text & MMS are intact but I always end up setting up my Yahoo & Gmail account whenever I do a soft reset.
Any tips?
locate a file called "startclean" in /windows/startup, and delete it, that could be the reason.

Excellent tip. I'll try it out and report if it works.

I opened my startup folder and there is no reference to "startclean."
I have the following: btdwake, poutlook & VCDaemon. I already did a hard reset & after setting up a new message account (Yahoo & Gmail) after resetting these accounts vanish.
Help!

you can use this to restore them accounts, works great.
I've noticed the same thing happening on my P3600 after installing certain programs (too bad I dont remember which ones) but only on certain ROM's

Got it. Thanks! Will send feedback once I get my device setup.
Thanks again.
Problem Solved - for me anyway
Had the same problem, was driving me crazy untill I found this:
Set up all your settings, email accounts, etc. Make sure your phone is not plugged in to your charger or sync cable, if it is, unplug the cable and wait a few moments. Turn off your phone by holding the power button for 4 seconds,
then restart.
Apparrently this writes the settings to memory so that after a soft reset they won't be lost.
I did this two days ago and the problem has not re-occurred for me.
Here's hoping.
Messaging accounts and passwords disappearing probably solved!
Hi to all!
After a few days with this terrible problem I think I've found a solution!
For me it works for 100% and I really hope that it'll help you too.
So, the theory (you can look immediately to the next chapter if you don't care about details and just want the solution):
Problem with settings (mail accounts, passwords, exchange folders) disappearing and known solution (start IE, disconnect, turn off) telling us that problem is connected with saving settings to the filesystem.
There might be 3 problems:
1. Some huge cache for system setting. Flush operation is not so often, so everything lost during a soft reset.
2. Some error in system databases support.
3. We're closing system application in some wrong way....
So, I started with simple 3rd variant and I've found out that all of us are using HTC X-button application to close running programs instead of minimize them.
Currently I have installed PDAVIET rom with X-Button 1.51 (build 30470).
The Solution:
Open registry editor and remove X-Button daemon "taskserStart.exe" - go to HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE/Init and find value "LaunchXX" with data "taskserStart.exe" and delete it!
That's all!
Thank you!
EDIT:
To avoid misunderstanding I'll describe steps:
1. Delete registry value: "Open registry editor and remove X-Button daemon "taskserStart.exe" - go to HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE/Init and find value "LaunchXX" with data "taskserStart.exe" and delete it!"
2. SoftReset
3. Enter passwords, restore accounts etc.
4. Completed!
Also I've found previous version of X-Button and with this version accounts and passwords don't disappear: View attachment X-Button1.5.cab

Does this mean, that the Installation of the linked X-Button 1.5 version
would avoid the problem??

In general, yes, but I didn't try to install older version above working newer version.
What I did is:
1. Removed registry key and then soft reset.
2. Install older version.
Thank you!
As to me X-button is not related to this issue. This is a feature of wm6 implemented with bugs by Dopod, who provided a lap with bugs.
This issue and others can affect a lot (if not every) dopod roms, It can be mitigated by disabling file system cache, but require a new lap to be solved.
Have a look here and around for further information:

Hi!
As I said, it might be problem with cache, but nevertheless new version of X-Button closes system applications in different way than old version (probably using KillProcess or something... I didn't study it in details) and with old one system applications have time to save their settings.
It is true that reason is not in X-Button, but using old version I don't have this problem at all.
Solution is not for fixing a bug in OS, but for avoiding the problem.
Thank you!
P.S. Thanks for the link. I'll study it.

Thanks mcnl6754,
However not long after I posted, I lost my settings again. I haven't tried esofts fix yet. I was hoping for some more feedback first.
I did ring HTC (Australia) about this, they denied any fault of the ROM.
I am using the latest official ANZ rom from their website.

After trying out your suggestion - I have sucessfully retained my message settings for 3 days without a glitch so far. Have done as much as 10 soft resets just to make sure it was retained. So for me everything has worked out perfectly.
Thanks again.
Hi to all!
I have to tell that disabling X-Button was working for a week or so and then I lost my settings again.
Also I tried to disable file system cache, it was working for a few days and yesterday night I've lost my settings once more.
100% solution doesn't exist yet.
I'll keep trying, but I feel like it would be easier to create small application which will configure everything (network, e-mails) and put it into autostart. :-\ I'll work on this issue next weekend.
Problem Solved
I've install Mary ROM and problem solved!

some body have tried to disable the system cache???
It's always started on my TyTN. I don't know why, but when shutdown AS, after few minutes it's started again. Also problem is that I don't see him in Running programs list ???? I have WM6.

Direct Push is disabled.
Problem is that ActiveSync is only started, it's not trying to synchronize. So no Data connection.
Also everything worked perfect, and I think that problem caused installation of FlexiMail, which is uninstalled, but problem stay...
just a try: use schap's advanced config tool and uncheck "connection always on"
another try might be to make sure that AS is really closed (and not minimized). use htc task-manager or x-button change the settings to "close apps" when pressing the x-button.
Unchecked and closed, but showing again.
another try might be:
go to activesync, menu->schedule
and set "peak times" and "off-peak times" to "manually"
already adjust like that and doesn't help.
I seem to have the same issue...seen it with wm6 and now wm6.1
hm.
maybe one of the following might help:
use htweakc and disable "GPRS/G3 Auto Attach"
goto activesync, menu options and delete your exchange server (be sure to backup your data as it deltes all your emails, contacts, etc.)
delete all of your internet/isp connections and your work network connections and re-add them.
if these do not work, please check if there is a 3rd party software which might be configured properly.
Randomly when I update QuickGPS I get an error:
"Data Activation Failed:
Location setting must be on so that the latest satellite data can be used to speed up GPS positioning"
I'm on a T-Mobile USA Touch Pro 2.
If I restart my device, I can update QuickGPS without error. But once I get this error, I always do until I restart my device. Its like the "location setting" just dissapeared. Anyone have a similar issue or know of a fix?
I'm having same problem.
I've try to update the QuickGPS and it tells me I need to set location to on but I can not find it anywhere. It suppose to be at Start, Settings, Phone, Services then I should be able to see locations but I don't see it.
It's missing and I hate to call customer's services and run into someone who reads out of manuals.
Any takers?
TIA.
Anyone have any ideas?
same prob
I see that my location is set to on, but wont update regardless of soft reset. just updated to europe wwe 6.5 from htc site. didnt have prob with 6.1 stock from tmo usa
I have the same problem with the stock rom from sprint. it will say i need to turn on location setting, but when i look, it's already on. also, if i try to turn off location setting, it stays on. when i look again, after selecting off, ok, etc., the location setting says on again. soft reset is the only thing that fixes it.
after soft reset, i quickgps, then run garmin and it works fine. after i turn off garmin and don't use it for awhile, then i can't get a fix and i get the location setting error when trying to run quickgps.
any ideas?
I'm using HTC Topaz with official WM6.5. I've found that this problem happens after installing WM6VoIP.cab (it's necessary for enabling SIP). Btw not only QuickGPS fails with update, GPS completely stops working.
Removing of "Sleuth's WM6VoIP" through "Add\remove programs:" doesn't work - only Hard reset helps.
