Problem with ActiveSync - 8525, TyTN, MDA Vario II, JasJam ROM Development

It's always started on my TyTN. I don't know why, but when shutdown AS, after few minutes it's started again. Also problem is that I don't see him in Running programs list ???? I have WM6.

Direct Push is disabled.
Problem is that ActiveSync is only started, it's not trying to synchronize. So no Data connection.
Also everything worked perfect, and I think that problem caused installation of FlexiMail, which is uninstalled, but problem stay...

just a try: use schap's advanced config tool and uncheck "connection always on"
another try might be to make sure that AS is really closed (and not minimized). use htc task-manager or x-button change the settings to "close apps" when pressing the x-button.

Unchecked and closed, but showing again.

another try might be:
go to activesync, menu->schedule
and set "peak times" and "off-peak times" to "manually"

already adjust like that and doesn't help.

I seem to have the same issue...seen it with wm6 and now wm6.1

hm.
maybe one of the following might help:
use htweakc and disable "GPRS/G3 Auto Attach"
goto activesync, menu options and delete your exchange server (be sure to backup your data as it deltes all your emails, contacts, etc.)
delete all of your internet/isp connections and your work network connections and re-add them.
if these do not work, please check if there is a 3rd party software which might be configured properly.

Messaging Accounts deleted after Soft Reset

Hi guys!
I'm using a Trinity (WM6; Build 17944.0.3.1), everythings is great - except whenever I do a soft reset my messaging accounts are no longer there (Yahoo, Gmail, etc.) default accounts such as Text & MMS are intact but I always end up setting up my Yahoo & Gmail account whenever I do a soft reset.
Any tips?
locate a file called "startclean" in /windows/startup, and delete it, that could be the reason.

I opened my startup folder and there is no reference to "startclean."
I have the following: btdwake, poutlook & VCDaemon. I already did a hard reset & after setting up a new message account (Yahoo & Gmail) after resetting these accounts vanish.
Help!

you can use this to restore them accounts, works great.
I've noticed the same thing happening on my P3600 after installing certain programs (too bad I dont remember which ones) but only on certain ROM's

Problem Solved - for me anyway
Had the same problem, was driving me crazy untill I found this:
Set up all your settings, email accounts, etc. Make sure your phone is not plugged in to your charger or sync cable, if it is, unplug the cable and wait a few moments. Turn off your phone by holding the power button for 4 seconds,
then restart.
Apparrently this writes the settings to memory so that after a soft reset they won't be lost.
I did this two days ago and the problem has not re-occurred for me.
Here's hoping.
Messaging accounts and passwords disappearing probably solved!
Hi to all!
After a few days with this terrible problem I think I've found a solution!
For me it works for 100% and I really hope that it'll help you too.
So, the theory (you can look immediately to the next chapter if you don't care about details and just want the solution):
Problem with settings (mail accounts, passwords, exchange folders) disappearing and known solution (start IE, disconnect, turn off) telling us that problem is connected with saving settings to the filesystem.
There might be 3 problems:
1. Some huge cache for system setting. Flush operation is not so often, so everything lost during a soft reset.
2. Some error in system databases support.
3. We're closing system application in some wrong way....
So, I started with simple 3rd variant and I've found out that all of us are using HTC X-button application to close running programs instead of minimize them.
Currently I have installed PDAVIET rom with X-Button 1.51 (build 30470).
The Solution:
Open registry editor and remove X-Button daemon "taskserStart.exe" - go to HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE/Init and find value "LaunchXX" with data "taskserStart.exe" and delete it!
That's all!
Thank you!
EDIT:
To avoid misunderstanding I'll describe steps:
1. Delete registry value: "Open registry editor and remove X-Button daemon "taskserStart.exe" - go to HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE/Init and find value "LaunchXX" with data "taskserStart.exe" and delete it!"
2. SoftReset
3. Enter passwords, restore accounts etc.
4. Completed!
Also I've found previous version of X-Button and with this version accounts and passwords don't disappear: View attachment X-Button1.5.cab

In general, yes, but I didn't try to install older version above working newer version.
What I did is:
1. Removed registry key and then soft reset.
2. Install older version.
Thank you!
As to me X-button is not related to this issue. This is a feature of wm6 implemented with bugs by Dopod, who provided a lap with bugs.
This issue and others can affect a lot (if not every) dopod roms, It can be mitigated by disabling file system cache, but require a new lap to be solved.
Have a look here and around for further information:

Hi!
As I said, it might be problem with cache, but nevertheless new version of X-Button closes system applications in different way than old version (probably using KillProcess or something... I didn't study it in details) and with old one system applications have time to save their settings.
It is true that reason is not in X-Button, but using old version I don't have this problem at all.
Solution is not for fixing a bug in OS, but for avoiding the problem.
Thank you!
P.S. Thanks for the link. I'll study it.

Thanks mcnl6754,
However not long after I posted, I lost my settings again. I haven't tried esofts fix yet. I was hoping for some more feedback first.
I did ring HTC (Australia) about this, they denied any fault of the ROM.
I am using the latest official ANZ rom from their website.

After trying out your suggestion - I have sucessfully retained my message settings for 3 days without a glitch so far. Have done as much as 10 soft resets just to make sure it was retained. So for me everything has worked out perfectly.
Thanks again.
Hi to all!
I have to tell that disabling X-Button was working for a week or so and then I lost my settings again.
Also I tried to disable file system cache, it was working for a few days and yesterday night I've lost my settings once more.
100% solution doesn't exist yet.
I'll keep trying, but I feel like it would be easier to create small application which will configure everything (network, e-mails) and put it into autostart. :-\ I'll work on this issue next weekend.

I've install Mary ROM and problem solved!

WM6 / Activesync 4.5 will not pair

Hi all,
Since re-installing activesync my PC will not pair with my PDA. The PDA connects as a guest and I can use activesync to install software and browse files, but I cannot sync!
I believe a sync wizard is supposed to open but this doesn't happen.
I really hope you can help as I currently have no calendar or contact data on the PDA.

Open AtiveSync with phone NOT connected, goto "File" and "remove portable device" (or similar, I've italian version, I don't know exacly string in english).
If there is an old configuration, in this way you'll remove it, then it must start the wizard... (I hope...)
Hi!
Thanks for the reply! There are no existing partnerships in Activesync, because it is a new installation!

I thought it was a re-install... You can try removing all drivers and ActiveSync and reinstalling all, it seems an istallation problem or a wrong ActiveSync version...
Try to download ActiveSync newly
If you have any kind of firewall software try to disable it...
Then, if activesync works, you have to set up new firewall rules...
Did any of these methods work? did you do something else to make it work??
This is how I got it working.....
go to settings/connections, open USB-PCand untick "the enable advanced network configuration"
if this does not work, and if your trying to sync to an outlook server then in settings/connection, choose connections, chose advanced tab, select networks, then ensure both have chosen the same network ( ie my Work Network). On the chosen network chose edit, and you should see a Proxy Setting tab.. Choose this and ensure the only top box is ticked ( this network connects.....)
worked for me... dunno why?
yeah try xda-boj's one it should work fine
start\settings\connections\usb to pc and uncheck 'enable advanced network functionality'
Thanks for the suggestions. I know I wasn't clear in my earlier posts, so:
- I had Activesync 4.5 installed, and it worked.
- Then file transfer from the PDA to the PC stopped working (the files appeared to transfer, but did not appear on the PC)
- So, I uninstalled Activesync 4.5, downloaded it again, and reinstalled it.
- After the re-install, Activesync would not create a partnership with my PDA running WM6.
- The partnership wizard does not start!
- I don't get any error message; in fact nothing happens, except that the PDA connects as a "guest", so I am able to browse files and install software but not actually sync.
- I have tried: disabling Windows Firewall; disabling Avast! anti-virus; checking that all connection protocols are enabled in the "network connections" control panel; re-installing Activesync again; and finally I got the same error on another PC.
- I haven't yet tried unchecking the "Enable advanced network functionality" box - I'll try that as soon as I get home tonight.
Beyond uninstalling Activesync, is there anything else I should be doing to start with a clean system?
Thanks again,
K
I have the same problem.
You can try reinstall the active sync app (repair option) and then reconnect and uncheck "the enable advanced network configuration".
I am doing this evey time
I've tried unchecking "Enable advanced network functionality", but that doesn't solve it!

[REF] HowTo stop ActiveSync running all the time.

Hi everyone, I am constantly seeing allot of questions and duplicate posts all over the forums regarding for this ActiveSync issue, i.e. it is running in the background even after a disconnection from your PC or mail client etc. so I have created this thread to try to help clogging up some of the already big threads. Hopefully this will leave allot of valuable space left on the individual ROM's threads created by the cooks, so as to report non Microsoft related problems..

Hi Blazeitup123.
The eLiAs_ASyncKiller.cab works fine but does not close activesync all the time, i.e every time I check my internet e-mail via gprs activesync stays open even with the eLiAs_ASyncKiller cab installed, and i have to close it manually.
The TaskManager route closes activesync all the time.

Here goes:
1) Open Active Sync
2) Click on "Menu" and select "Configure Server..."
3) Enter false info in the server address / user name / other details
4) Click on "Menu" and select "Schedule..."
5) In BOTH drop-down menus select "Manually"
6) Click on "ok" and then close Active Sync.
7) Make sure Active Sync is closed and see if it comes back to life.
Active Sync shouldn't re-open any more, since you've just configured it NOT to connect to the internet automatically / periodically any longer.
After you verify that Active Sync didn't re-open itself - you may then go back and delete the "false" server you entered before. You may do so by:
1) Click on Menu and select "Oprions..."
2) Hilight "Microsoft Exchange" and click on "Delete"
3) Click "Yes" to confirm deleting this server
That's it...

Did yoy do as told in the first post? the Task Manager trick works for me every time with every rom!
the most simple and elegant solution:
just add activesync to exclusive list in the task manager...
1. when you'll check and get activesync on (uninvited)
2. go to task manager.
3. Click and hold on the word Activesync and then select from the pop-up "add to exclusive".
4. go to exclusive tab and thick activesync (repllog.exe).
done. worked for me many times (many ROMs)

Way to disable internet sharing on WM6.1 device?

Hi all,
Is there a way to disable this? It's driving me crazy - each time I connect the HTC Touch HD to the computer, instead of syncing it tries to share the phone's GPRS with the PC (which I dont want/need)..
Is there a way of permanently disabling internet sharing on the phone? I need activesync back!

Take a look at this post.

I was having the same problem and it did the work.
Basically this is the solution that works for me.
you can also use a registery hack:
use your favourite regeditor;
change
HKLM\Drivers\USB\FunctionDrivers\“DefaultClientDri ver“=“RNDIS“
into:
HKLM\Drivers\USB\FunctionDrivers\“DefaultClientDri ver“=“Serial_Class“

I have the same problem.
Editing the registry didn't work, I can't change to Serial_Class because it is already Serial_Class.
I have found the way to solve this....damn easy.
Today, is my second time I faced this problem. During the 1st time, I have tried many ways: restarts, edit registry, delete and add settings, but it didn't work, finally I reset the PDA and re-install all my programs. Damn!
The way to resolve this problem is: let it connects the internet sharing once, then unplug the USB cable and reconnect!!! I will automatic let you choose whether to connect as "ActiveSync", "Disk Drive" and "Internet Sharing", so you choose back the "ActiveSync". That's all....easy right?

deinstalling app thats not in deinstall list

Hey,
I downloaded snake from http://www.freewarepocketpc.net/ to try on my HD. But I doesnt work correctly so i wanted do deinstall it. But its not in the deinstall list, and its added an ugly entry to my start menu thats unremovable too. When i got to start - settings - menu and i deselect it there I get a message: cannot move that item.
What to do to get this stupid ass app of the HD?
still need help with this please
did you try removing it via ActiveSync?
no, how can i remove a program trough activesync? I only use that to sync my contacts and calendar data with my computer.
Connect the phone via ActiveSync, then as soon as Microsoft ActiveSync comes up, go to Tools > Add/Remove Programs.
ok, I see now, i tried but no it doesnt show up in the list. Very strange, if you want you can try it, just install snake from the link provided in the first post. But warning, youll probably have the same problem.
just remove it from the windows file in the start folder.
it'll be on the phone but you won't see it to bug you.
