Wipe what? uh? - Hero, G2 Touch Android Development

I'm trying to flash my Hero using the guide on Theunlockr
http://theunlockr.com/2009/08/27/how-to-load-a-custom-rom-on-your-htc-hero/
In step 8 it says "Select Wipe from the menu, then select Apply Update.zip"
Problem is, I have several wipe options!
Wipe data/factory reset
Wipe Dalvik-cache
Wipe SD:ext partition
Wipe battery stats
Wipe rotate settings
Which one is the correct one?

Wipe the first two. If you use apps 2 sd in the future you may have to wipe 3 as well but I am guessing you just need the first two.

Thanks for the quick reply! I did the first one, but the second one gave me an error: "Error: Run 'wipe dalvik' via adb!"
So I did
Code:
C:\AndroidSDK\tools>adb shell
/ # wipe dalvik
wipe dalvik
unmounting /data
No ext partition found!
I'm surely doing something wrong here...

What custom recovery are you using?

I'm pretty certain this is an error with the recovery image, and that the wipe is actually successful (see here)

Right again! I have now flashed the device with the VillainROM

you just need the first wipe

Security Questions

I just bought a galaxy s2 off of craigslist and I was wondering if there was any way to check if the phone has been modified in any way. Mainly worried about mal/spyware. I did a factory wipe and wiped the cache. When in recovery mode here is the message I get:
"
--Verifying internal MMC block
checksum confirmation -> check (0)
Not need checksum confirmation
already executed!!...
# MANUAL MODE #
"
Why isn't it doing the checksum? Is there a way to do it manually?
Is there any way of making sure the OS is completely stock, short of wiping everything and re-installing?
Not sure if it would help, but there is an option (If you have CWM Recovery flashed) that allows you to enable signature checking. Dunno if a signed/unsigned file is the same as a checksum (Actually I think it may be completely different), but it might help... Also, in CWM Recovery, best thing to do is go to Factory restore/reset, then wipe cache partition, then go to advanced, wipe dalvik cache and advanced, clear battery stats. After all that is done, you may want to download the stock rom from here (In this thread: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1391174 ) and flash it using CWM Recovery as well. As soon as that is done, just perform a nandroid backup to have it handy in case you should need to restore. Hope that helped...

[Q] Help My Gio don't boot

Hello to all,
I have try to install the [ROM][CM10.1.4] - modded - [stable-20130826] - OTA.
I follow every step as requested in the post
•Boot into CWM Recovery -> OK
•Wipe data/factory reset -> OK
•Format /System -> OK
•Install zip from SD card / choose ROM zip from SD card ->OK
•After installation reboot system now -> OK
•1st Boot take about 3 - 5 minutes (caches are generated in this time) -> This step never boot wait make all the process again and nothing.
I have read a lot of threads in the fórum and discover that I should wipe the Dalkiv Cache. I try to make that in CWM recobery but when I choose that menu the menu disapear in a few second's automaticly and I can't say yes to wipe the Dalvik Cache.
Already take out the baterry rpeat all the steps 3 or 4 times and always the same even with another ROM. I have not tryed with OTA ROM.
I think not sure the problem is with the Dalvik cache I try to wipe in adb mode (in CWM recovery) but I can´t find the correct comand (some of the lines start with "su") but this line don't work.
Some one could help me? I try to make the phone better and now I don't have phone.
Hope some one copuld help me I really need the phone.
Thanks in advance for your support.
Best Regards

Problem fixed.
I have installed the CWM with 4ext + rfs and that version don't let me wipe Dalvik Cache.
I have installed the CWM only with 4ext, and the problem's are solved.
Don't understand really why but already can install custom ROM.
Thanks any way.

Can't delete a rom (CM11) to install new one

****edit: It appears that the option "format /system" which is tucked away in a sub menu did the trick and erased the rom.
I am trying to completely delete a rom I have installed which is CyanogenMod 11 but it seems to stay no matter what, or I'm not doing it right.
First I go into recovery with the power+vol down and choosing recovery.
I have ClockworkMod 5.8.1.5.
From there I choose the wipe data/factory reset and also the wipe cache partition and wipe dalvik cache.
Then I choose the install zip from sd card to install Blackout_ICS_Incredible_v4.0.zip
After following the installer instructions and rebooting it goes back to CM11...
Any ideas how to wipe CM11 from my device?
Thanks :good:

Try formatting with fastboot.
Boot your device into fastboot and type these commands
Code:
fastboot devices
Just to be sure ur devic is connected
Code:
fastboot format system
Code:
fastboot format data
Code:
fastboot format boot
If the above doesnt work, susbtitute
Code:
format
with
Code:
erase
4EXT Recovery 1.0.0.6 R2
try changing the recovery via bootloader, download latest 4ext recovery zip then rename it to PD98IMG and place it to your root directory of your sdcard. Then go into bootloader it will automatically detect zip file and will ask you for update, press volume up to start the update, reboot and your done. After flashing new recovery go into recovery and then wipe/format from there format all partitions except sd card. When done go back to main menu and select info to see the free space/size of all partitions.
Device: HTC Desire HD
ROM: CM11 M8.1
Recovery: 4EXT 1.0.0.6 R3 build 8
If it helped you then pressing then press the thanks button.

HTC Desire 820n System UI has stopped.

As in thread.. it's showing.. i installed Discover Tomal ROM 2.0 and other original backup.. Idk how to repair it.
Previously both worked very good.. May be it caused by low battery while installing ~35%?
Edit:
When i want to install zip it's showing at the top " E: Unknown File System: 'datamedia' "

Stuck at boot animation on multiple custom ROMs [ Redmi Note 8 ] [ ginkgo ]

I thought of having a new ROM installed on my phone and it is not the first time I'm doing it.
Device: Redmi Note 8 [ ginkgo ]
These are the steps that I followed:
Moving to bootloader and rebooting to TWRP recovery
Wiping the cache, system, data and dalvik cache
Moving to install option and installing the CustomROM1.zip from the Internal Storage
But the screen is stuck at boot animation
Using my laptop I tried to do the following:
5.1. fastboot erase system and fastboot erase recovery
5.2. Flashed TWRP recovery again using fastboot flash recover twrp.img
Moved the CustomROM2.zip file in the Internal Storage and tried to flash resulted in boot animation loop
I even tried to ADB sideload and flash the zip but resulted in the same error.
CustomROM1 = Havoc-OS-v3.7-20200708-ginkgo-official.zip
CustomROM2 = AncientOS-CIVILIZATION-v3.0.1-ginkgo-PRIMEVAL-20200331-0828.zip
Any sort of help to get out of this would be totally appreciable. And thank in advance.
You have to format data in recovery (format where you have to type yes not wipe). Ideally do this before installing ROM.
So wipe everything, format data then install ROM

That is the 'wipe' screen options. NOT the format screen options.
Please read again. What is said for you to do.
In twrp.
Go to wipe menu
At bottom press format
This gives you screen that says to format, type "yes"
