I have my new TP2 and have read for the last 4 days straight and am ready to try my first ROM upgrade. To be on the safe side, I wanted to make sure I could get back to my original, but I don't see it anywhere on HTC's website. Is there somewhere else I should be looking or is there a way to fully backup the ROM on my phone before starting?
Thanks in advance!!

hello everyone,
i recently purchased my first smart phone about a week ago and am slowly starting to tweek it to my likings.
sadly im not too sure on how to achieve certain things on the device but if anyone can show me a link on how to unlock the gps on my phone i would greatly appreciate it.
i have a friend who told me about this place and also mentioned it would be wise to also have my stock rom saved to my computer and my stock radio just in case the new rom screws my phone up.
anyways its an alltel htc touch 6900 so if anyone can help me out i would greatly appreciate it

okay thanks very much orb3000, i read the wiki and it said it will unlock the gps but said that it would run off alltels nav and charges 9 bucks a month, so what im wondering is if i ran the updated rom and unlocked the gps could i use a different gps app and not have to pay the gps fee?? or will that still require a different rom? thnks

Hello everyone,
I wasn't sure where to put this.
I recently saw that I could upgrade my T-Mobile Touch Pro2 from WM 6.1 to 6.5.
So I went to the T-Mobile site, and was directed to the T-Mobile download page.
I enter my IMEI number and start the download, but each time it hangs and doesn't download the whole file. I've tried this on 3 different PC's and with different browsers.
Does anyone know where I can download this? Or if there is an easier or more direct way of upgrading?
Any help would be appreciated, thank you!

Yes, orb's guide to flashing ROM's is the best place for someone new here to start learning about that process...there's a ton of great options available for you to look at, all of them an improvement over the stock ROM's in some way (or several, usually).
As far as getting the ROM from T-mo to download for you...there's probably a fairly heavy load on the servers right now (since it was just "officially" released yesterday), you'll probably just need to wait 'till the peak drops off a bit and try again.
In the meantime, give that guide a read, and check out some of your other ROM options here...you may find out you don't even want to bother waiting for the stock one anymore
Awesome, thanks for the replies! I really appreciate it!
Hello all,
Sorry for such a noob question but I have been searching a while and haven't found anything. I am having problems with some of the applications on a TP2 since I have upgraded to the standard 6.5 rom from T-Mobile. Does anyone know where I can download and revert it back to 6.1 T-Mo shipping rom as the programs given to the user for their job won't run on the newer and would like to go back. Thank you for any help or direction you could provide on this.
Please, next time look in the ROM thread there is downloads to get you your stock ROM back but, I give you the link .

im a newbie when i comes to windows phones, ive had blackberry's my whole contract and i figured what the heck ill try one so i found a new one on ebay and when i got it, it looked like it had the sense rom installed, and me being an idiot, put the original rom back on it. how can i put sense back into it? lol
go to the touch pro 2, Tilt 2 Windows Mobile Rom development forum and read the Hard-SPL unlocker sticky thread and make sure your device is hard-spl'd, if not then do it. Then read the Flashing your first GSM Rhodium Rom (also a stickied thread) [this is assuming ur device is gsm (at&t or t-mobile)] and go through the roms and flash whichever one you please. NRG's Energy roms seem to be the most popular for the rhodium but its all up to your personal preference.

Wait a minute, you already burned a ROM and you don't know how to burn a new ROM? If you are asking what ROM to burn, take a look at the ROM development forums.

I was just about to say that.. if you can put one rom on you can put any rom on (any rom thats compatible with your phone that is)
well the rom i put on was the regular factory rom from htc's website and i found it to be easy cuz it was an .exe file, idk about other roms. whats a good rom for me to use? i was thinking sense but i read it slowed down after alot of txts and emails. im a big txter and i use emails alot so i dont know what to load on my phone. any help and suggestions would be greatly appreciated. and for the record, im 18yo, and dont know much about this kind of technical stuff.

There is an issue with SAVING sms - it slows down the phone a lot. But it should be no problem to view them and then delete the old ones. I use the NRG ROM. But I would go over to the ROM Development section and read up. Start by discovering if the phone has Hard SPL.

Hi People,
I have only just found out that you can change the ROM's and all sorts of thing with My HTC Desire.
I have had my phone for 2 weeks, I'm on Virgin Mobile and don't have a clue.
I was talking to a guy at work who has one and he told me about you guys.
I have had a look around but can't see anything for the noob...lol (ME!!!).
I was wondering is anyone could give me some advice on where to start, What to look out for and any general advice on what to do and what not to do?
Any Help would be much appreciated.
Many Thanks
BG Macster (Mark)
First thing is to ask yourself why you want to change the ROM on the unit. Are you running out of space or are you just the type who likes to have more control?
I didn't root for months as the phon, out the box, does exactly what I want it to do. The only reason I've rooted now is to run the HD ROM but otherwise I'd stay stock.
You're going to get people reply with 'root it now, don't ever think of going stock, bla bla bla' but it's an individual thing, as is the choice of ROM. Read up on the stickied threads in the various forums and use the search button a LOT!

Welcome Mark.
EddyOS has provided you some excellent advice - don't rush into anything.
Mostly people do this as a kind of 'hobby' (including me) and you can end up with some cool stuff on your phone that HTC never intended you to have or have much later on. On the flip side, you can also wreck your phone too through doing the wrong thing or just plain bad luck. HTC can be a bit difficult in fixing stuff under warranty if you've been mucking about with your device, so be warned.
Everything you need to know about rooting and flashing (conjures up interesting images doesn't it?) is contained here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=696189
So read up, lurk about a bit in the forums and if you think you need to - have a go.
Good luck!
Thanks Guys Some sound advice there i will look around before i do a thing.
Many Thanks
First thing I would do, though, is check the ROM currently running on your Desire and get the RUU* file in case you ever need to go back to stock after rooting. To check, go to Settings>About phone>Software information and make a note of the software version.
You can then go to this site and see if the version you're on at present is available. If it is, download it:

*RUU = ROM Upgrade Utility, official package from HTC to install a ROM
