Hi all,
my phone shows something I can't google.
When turning on the device, or - thats really worse - every time the phone looses connection and searches for providers, it falls back to T-Mobile germany, which is in Austria quite obviously not present.
Then it throws a Warning-message (even when in sleep mode) stating that
"For roaming services additional costs may occur"
Original German "Für den Roaming-Dienst fallen wahrscheinlich zusätzliche Kosten an".
The phone is not locked but branded.
This feature is annoying because the phone is inactive while showing the message and I regularly miss calls while driving.
Haven't found anything yet, might a flash to a non-branded ROM help??
Has anybody some ideas, haven't found anything in the registry yet.
best regards & thanks in advance,
Reinhard

The problem is one of the most annoying ones you can have: it appears only from time to time and you don't know when and even when it does you don't notice.
Simply my phone is not accessible for others even it shows full range and so on. The message "...the phone is switched off...". This problem occurs in as far as I remember 3 releases of ROMS (full, vanillas, etc). The radio ROM was also changed. I don't remember having such issue in early WM6 or in original 2005.
Since it's not related directly to any of the releases I post it as a new thread.
Now I have 3 options:
1. Downgrade to 2005
2. Throw the unit through the window, wait until end of contract and buy an iPhone
3. Try to fight with T-Mobile UK - which is not really an option since I just recovered from fighting with Orange for over a month
Does any of you experienced such problem?
Any known issues with downgrading to 2005 like ISPL required before flashing original ROM?
Any suggestions?

Well, I got the answer - couldn't wait and did the downgrade using original ROM. If anyone interested it went without problems. No ISPL needed. Connected, fired-up the exe file and worked OK.
I'll see how about the availability problem.
Ok, seems that it's only me having the conversation ;o)
I apologize for the thread location - it doesn't seem to be related strictly to WM6 anymore as I...
...installed WM5 and did some tests:
(I have voice mail switched off)
- Call waiting enabled = no calls allowed when GPRS active
- Call waiting disabled = no calls when transferring data (large file) but received when no transfer
- Used W660i SonyEricsson handset - could receive calls regardless of GPRS activity
Rang T-Mobile tech support where they told me that this is network feature that when internet connection is active no calls are allowed and since my voicemail is turned off all callers get message that my phone is switched off. In the light of GPRS specification and my tests this is a bull****.
Now I'm asking anyone on UK T-Mobile Web'n'Walk and who wants to help - please do such test. Just try to call your number from different phone when opening a web-page.
This is pretty important to me - I need internet on the move and don't want to get rid of my MDA.
Thanks in advance!
Hi there,
I'm on T-Mobile UK too and I ran some tests myself and found that you are absolutely correct. When you transfer data you cannot receive phone calls.
I've got an O2 device with me I can do some more tests on and I'll also try and borrow my Wife's Samsung and test that too. I'll post my findings here.
Cheers
Alex
ok, i've just tested this on an O2 3G device and there was no problem, next to try a none windows mobile t-mobile phone.
seems this problem has been around for while and on other networks.
http://www.freenfo.net/mobile/archive/index-t-64022.html
ok, final test and conclusion.
I tested the same o2 phone as above but in a NON 3g area (i.e. gprs only) and found the exact same issue.
conclusion: this seems to affect all types of phone and multiple networks but only when using gprs NOT 3g.
I'm suprised we havent heard more about this problem.
cheers
Alex
Thank you Alex very much for your help.
I did some research on the topic last night and found the same info as guys in the thread your linked. It must be that T-Mobile UK operates in NOM-2, which allows to suspend GPRS session only when no data is transferred. When packets are transmitted the device doesn't 'see' incoming calls as it's 'busy' with dealing with the packets. NOM-1 is 'able' to encapsulate information about incoming call into one of the packets and the device is notified about - so it can react, suspend the transmission and pick up the call.
The fact is that our MDA/Artemis uses Class B of GPRS which doesn't allow simultaneous CDA/GPRS at the same time. Even if it can suspend active data transfer it is the network that has to support that feature.
What I must notice is that I had lot more problems wiht this when I was using WM6. It seems that there were some packets transmitted by the system or something. I had my mail set to check servers every 15 mins at the beginning but lately ony once an hour or two. Other soft that could transmit anything was Weather module from SPB or Touch. Now when I'm on WM5 and was checking the issue during loading a page I was unavailable but as soon as a page was completely loaded my phone was accessible back.
My surprise is that if the 'issue' seems to be quite normal and there is nothing to do about it why I couldn't find any info about it here. Doesn't it affect anyone of our community?
I may be wrong with the WM6 expirience but still. If WM6 works fine in that respect it must have happened that someone missed a call when browsing the net.
i hadnt noticed to be honest

Did you try ringing your phone when it was loading a long page or downloading a file?
TBH I think I've noticed it just as much on WM6 as I did (or didn't) on WM5, I think I put these odd voice mails turning up down to weird WM issues! Now I know the truth though.
Obv. there isn't a lot we can do about this and I'm not prepared to turn off my Windows Live Mail or my direct push. I think we just have to wait until our contracts are up for renewal and get over to a 3G device - I'm liking the look of the Touch Cruise myself, or the Touch Dual if I want that keyboard back and by the time my contract is up I think they should be on T-Mob UK.
does the same thing happen in Edge areas or as that rolls out will the problem disappear?
I'm not sure about how EDGE works but the problem affects GPRS rather than 3G due to the fact that GPRS and the incoming call are submitted alongside each other and 3G is seperate. I don't think t-mob uk have edge running yet so I can't test, perhpas some else can test for us.
Bro.. My first 3rd party ROM is the Touch 3.0.. and yes.. my connnection did go off once a while (no bars as well).. that was kinda irritating. I have to go to connection manager and toggle my data connection or something like that, before my phone will get the GSM signal.
And yea.. the original WM5 and WM6 have no such issues.. I wonder if this is because of the new radio version..
Hi
Just got this phone through today and I quite like it but i hate what orange have done to it. this whole unique manager etc is a big pile of the steaming smelly stuff you have no idea if it's using wifi or your data mins!
so really what i won't to know is does any one know how to get rid of this and if you can't can someone point me in the direction of a decent Rom for it and a guide to flashing it, I wan't a rom thats reasonably close to the htc original, but also if all goes wrong and i have to send it back to orange for a fault can it be put back to the original orange rom.
I have tried searching but i am a little overwhelmed by all the posts and roms, I don't want to get it wrong on my first one and totaly ruin my nice shiny phone.
oh why did orange have to mess with it?
cheers

hi
thanks for the info it was really helpful in explaining, but i can't see any links to touch 3g roms. i assume it's not the same rom as the diamond.

Orange Issue
I am also having problems as I can not connect to any WIFi and can not find a way of changing the Wifi Power management.
Orange
I have had a call from Orange and the suggestion was to have a look at the HTC Web site and see if there was anything to help there.
I have just spent the last 3 days reading this site (don't tell the boss) and i have just this moment burned a fairly original htc rom on to it so that i can get rid of all the orange stuff.
so far it's much better and i get the msn messenger back as well, have a look at the jade part of this forum, you need to install hardspl which will enable you to dump the rom and install the new one on the phone, http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=483465
then dump the current rom for backup http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=448776
now download and use this Kitchen http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=441872 in this package you have all the files to make the original htc rom and also restore your backup rom.
just have a read of some of these threads and you will be able to go back to htc original rom. you will need to do some leaps of faith with some of it, but i have just done it and it's worked fine, I made sure i had the backup though!
cheers

Hi Tom, just wanted to say thanks for the links and info - I've now successfully flashed one of ironeagle's lean-cut ROMs and the awful Unique Manager is gone!
I have a stock Touch Diamond as well and the performance of the 3g with the Orange ROM in comparison was dreadful. This new one is nice and zippy.
Ironeagle’s ROMs
Hi BexxBexx
Did you simply run JadeHard-SPL_V41 and then install one of Ironeagle’s ROMs
I presume that this will remove all the Orange rubbish and become SIM free?
I also presume that GPS and WIFI are all working ok?
Thanks
Dave
Does UMA/Unique Still work with HTC Rom
Hi, I also have Orange HTC Touch and do find the Unique/WiFi control unclear as to what service it is using, I have no signal at home so I know it has to be using the wifi despite the phone saying 3G. I wondered if those who have tried different ROM's have still got the use of Orange Unique/UMA i.e. can make calls & SMS's via the wifi network. I have to have this facility as no signal at home. I had blackberry's before & they were great for using the WiFi but I read that if you removed the orange branding (e.g. had an unlocked phone) you lost this however I did use BB OEM updated ROM & was still OK but underneath I still got the orange startup so assume still branded. Also very easy to restore previous firmware if problems. BB (RIM) released about 5 or 6 updated firmwares over about a year, Orange Never released any specific so I am not holding breath for HTC/Orange ROM. HTC do have an updated one on their WWW but if I put my serial number in says not suitable. V. Strangely at home 90% time I get the green house OK saying wifi conencted & can phone/sms fine using this but if I try to connect to the internet it say no connection, try again a few minutes later after some swithing on/off and it might work. No set pattern to make it work.
i would be very keen to know if this works as well with regards to retaining UMA ability once orange software has been removed
Just a small follow up, does not help me but the more info the better - I found on digitalspy forum that someone had located WLan settings on the htc touch 3g.
Basically File Explorer/Windows/WLANSettings there is a little more info & you can change the Power settings - I had read others benefited by changing power save mode to best performace they got a better wifi connection, Mine was on best battery & changed to Best Performance, but I still do not get a reliable connection to my WiFi, but it may lead onto something.
Not bothered me much before as unlimited data anyway but been in Italy and and wanted to use the hotel wifi but not being able to turn off gsm I could not be sure what network it was using and would have cost a fortune on EU roaming data charges so simply could not risk using the phone for any browsing.
Thanks
This forum is the best!
Just got rid of the Orange branding. As a minimum is now says "WiFi" instead of Unique Phone and no annoying Orange World references. And Google Maps is on as standard!
I called Orange before I did it to for info on Unique Phone. They dont know a lot! They think you have to be connected via an Orange router - which I dont have anyway. But they are not sure.
From what I can make out Unique Phone is UMA. Re previous post - don't know if it still works after de-branding (or if it work before de-branding!) because I dont know how to tell if it is working! No indications AFAICS. I would have thought there would have been settings for UMA - server etc. Or am I being thick!
Anyway - here is a question ..................off topic but relevant I think! (Ok - shoot me down then!)
I have just changed tarriff to included unlimited internet. I had a e650 before (de-branded that one also!) and used wifi all the time but I have never ever used internet via GSM ever.
So the question.....how do you know what you are using to access the internet if your wifi is on? Does it favour wifi if it is connected? The reason I want to know this is so that I do not use GSM internet while roaming abroad.
Thanks again guys for all your hard work. In a way I am glad Orange mess about with the phones - gives us something to search for on 'tinternet !
Not really helping you but for info. to others from my experience.
The Touch 3g, "Unique" is UMA and works surprisingly well. 95% of time it connects for calls & sms's (I know its using the router as I don't have GSM signal at home) I have Orange broadband with a livebox and it all routes through this although the phone actually connects to a Buffalo router so you can us AP's and increase range very well & easily'ish.
The bizarre thing I find is despite the phone clearly connecting via wifi for calls etc. the internet only works 60% of the time, I think the rest of the time because it can't find a gsm signal is complains. A restart, few fiddles with settings and it works again, but not set pattern or reasons won't work,
very Random!
Normally you would know you are connected to the wifi because the Access Points name would be displayed, prob. next to you network provider and with previous (even) orange branded BlackBerry's its clear and obvious, however with this 3g and the fact it can connect to UMA for calls etc & (I'm guessing) tries for gsm for internet I would be a little anxious. You may be lucky now you have debranded and be able to switch OFF the network signal only. I could always do this with BB's so it could ONLY use wifi. Why the #!#!#! you can't with orange's Touch 3g I fail to comprehend. As I said in my post above, fortunately I have unlimited and don't really need internet at home but could not risk using whilst abroad.
What firmware did you use to de-brand?
I followed this thread http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=441872 - the kitchen contained everything. I never changed anything - just used what was in it. Admit I was a bit concerned - but is worked fine and then I had a gin and tonic to calm down
In terms of the Unique Phone - when I rang Orange they were not sure if a livebox was needed or not. I dont have a livebox but heyho I dont have Unique Phone any longer so it is immaterial to me now!
As regards the GPRS - I now just edit the Access Point name - take last letter away from orangeinternet and it will not connect. So now I can switch it on and off as required. So I switch it off when abroad - I have unlimited in the UK.
Orange UMA on HTC Touch 3G (business contract) - problems like rest of you guys...
It's reassuring to read I'm not the only one with problems with my upgrade from Orange.
I was told that their UMA phones would help me get around a patchy signal issue out in my (garden) office, which is connected via Cat5e cable to the Netgear router in the house. Here in the office I now use an old Netgear WG602 WAP connected via a switch & Cat5e cable to the router (only 45m, about 50yards in old money, away). Orange have now said I can't get support as I'm not using their Broadband (we have BT Internet) & their Livebox, but they originally said the UMA feature worked with any wireless network (which it does about 2/3rd of the time). The rest of the time the green house isn't there, just the red or the grey house appear in the status bar or in Unique Manager.
I quite like the phone, as a phone & SMS device, as it is way lighter than my old HTC Ty-Tn II (brick) & I am happy with Orange (as I have been with them for over 15 years now for both business & personal use), so I don't want to go unlocked etc. Also the Business Support side of things is, I have heard from personal customers, way better also.
But this bloody UMA is driving me round the u-bend. This (below) is a post I put up on another forum & I'm hoping someone here can shed light on how to tweak both the phone's UMA settings & our WAP's, so I can get it to work 99% of the time via wi-fi when the Orange GSM signal fails.
I am frustrated at having been convinced by Oranges’ answer to a poor signal reception issue in my area: we (Orange) now have a limited – yes VERY – selection of phones that use UMA to continue or route a new call over a w-fi- connection instead of GSM. Well we jumped for it, but they didn’t say we’d have similar dropped connection problems via UMA over our wireless service (provided by BT Internet & Netgear WAP & Router. They have flatly refused any support for the HTC 3G Touch I have got on a 24 month contract (been with Orange for 15 + years) because we aren’t using Orange Broadband or their router. I’m fairly certain it is a software configuration issue (both what settings I need to use on the phone & the WAP need tweaking), but they are unable to assist. Can you help at all? I have a reasonable IT understanding even though I’m just a “bricks & mortar” builder. Many thanks, Rob
Can anyone help me out please.
You may already but could check Settings/connections/connections/advanced/select network/ and make sure both on Orange internet (or your ISP) rather than having "my work network" on either. Not sure if it will help but I think I had intermittant UMA when I left the 2nd on "my Work".
I have a 3g touch working quite well with UMA, rarely I get the red house & I restart the phone & it tends to be OK. I do however use Orange Broadband and the Livebox as modem, but had a variety of routers & WAP's, Belkin & now Buffalo that all have tended to work wuite well.
I have had good results with the Blackberrys also, 8120 & 8220 flip, in some ways better that the touch 3g.
I posted this elsewhere, but I thought I'd come looking for help in a forum where I might have a few friends...
-----------------------
Hey guys. This is a last attempt at fixing this very annoying problem. All the searches I have done don't seem to leave anywhere. So here's the situation:
I bought a Chinese clone phone (Sunno HDi - clone of HTC T8282). The phone comes with WM6.5 [5.2.23037 (build 23037.5.3.0)]. Overall the phone works great, and I have done a couple of YouTube videos on it.
But anyway - the really annoying problem is that from day 1 the phone has always shown that I'm roaming. I always get the little roaming triangle, which in turn makes several applications complain about roaming charges, blah blah blah. From my understanding, roaming is a feature of what's stored on the SIM card, and the info being pulled in from the tower. I have my T-Mobile SIM card in the phone, and I put up all T-Mobile networks I could find on the top of my preferred network list. What am I missing?
*Any* help will be greatly appreciated!
Hi all,
HEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEELLLLLPPPPPPPPPPPPPPP!!!!
I recently acquired a Desire Z which I was told was 'locked' (to O2-UK) and 'blocked' (turned out the previous owner had got the pattern unlock wrong too many times and it was asking for Google account details). I did a factory reset and then put my T-Mobile UK SIM in the device, to confirmed it's locked status. I noticed that I got a GPRS connection, but no voice or 3G. I assumed this to be a symptom of the lock, as my original Desire came unlocked, so I thought nothing of it.
I used the gfree downgrading/unlocking/s-off/superCID rooting method as described in http://forum.xda-developers.com/wik...sion#Rooting_the_Vision_.28G2.2FDZ.29_and_DHD, verified with gfree_verify (all OK), and installed CM7.0.3...
Still no voice/3G! The handset still intermittently gives me GPRS, but there's no discernable rhyme or reason to how or when this happens. I've tried network auto-select and manually selecting, but get 'Unable to connect to this network at this time. Please try again later.' I also occasionally get something along the lines of 'This SIM cannot access the network selected' (I didn't keep a note of this error, so that's paraphrasing).
Tried a Vodafone UK contract SIM - this gives no connectivity at all and the same error messages as the T-Mobile SIM. I'm waiting for an O2 UK SIM from a friend tomorrow to test. Both SIMs are fine in my old Desire.
I've done everything I can think of - gone back to stock, S-ON, default recovery, basically got it back to pristine factory settings, different firmware/radio versions, and it's made no difference. I've looked through the threads at http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=835673 and http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=805024 as these seem to be addressing a similar issue, but my problem seems to be unique in that NOTHING seems to get me a GSM/3G connection. (I'm also not so hot at GSM interface programming... )
I've got the logcat output from device boot through to the appearance of the lockscreen; however it's too big for this post so it's at pastebin (probably complete overkill, but I don't konw what I'm looking for): http://pastebin.com/gn578Yfw
Any help will be massively appreciated, and thanked with beer where possible.
Finally - apologies for length, just want to make sure I've covered all that I've tried so far.
Thanks in advance,
Steve.
I think, that the previous owner, perhaps was not the previous owner. It's probably been stolen or found. the actual owner has notified his/her network (o2?) and have gotten the phone blocked. Nothing you can do i'm afraid, it will still work outside of the country.
Meh, you're absolutely right; CheckMEND and Mazuma have both confirmed today that it's blacklisted.
Rubbish. Still, that's what I get for buying a phone off gumtree and not asking the right questions, I guess.
ISSUE RESOLVED
Hi guys, I don't actually own this phone but I'm asking this on behalf of a friend. I've searched everywhere, including google, and have not found an answer.
Recently my friend's phone underwent a weird change. According to him, he was in class one day and had absolutely no service because it was in a basement. When he left the class though, his phone stopped displaying the Verizon name, in both the status bar and everywhere you would normally see it. Instead, it now seems to say that his service provider is Vodafone NL, which according to my research is a Netherlands based phone provider.
We live in NYC though so that's a bit of a problem. He is able to make phone calls sometimes, but he is apparently unable to send or receive texts, and cannot access any data.
He's waiting a day or two to see if it fixes itself, but he intends to take it to Verizon to have them check it out eventually if there's nothing. Anyone have any idea what the problem might be?
His phone is completely stock btw, no mods or root or anything.
UPDATE: Nevermind, I managed to resolve it for him by having him switch to CDMA and then having him scan networks for Verizon again. That seemed to fix it. Still no idea what caused it to switch to Vodafone though...
