Hi All,
I was just wondering where I can find the silver HTC Desire case. Since I can't post links until my account is verified by a moderator, just follow these short instructions to find the awesome case I'm talking about!
Step 1. Click on the Mobile Tech World link in shure2's thread titled "HD video recording? ".
Step 2. Look at the second picture. The HTC Desire case I want is in the middle.
So if anyone can help it would be greatly appreciated. Alternatively if anyone knows where I can get official HTC accesories like cases etc. that would a great help.
Thanks in advance!
That picture doesn't look like the Desire is encased. It looks...naked
Are talking about the same picture? Maybe you think it's in a silver case because the photo is overexposed from the flash?

Btw, as far as I know, HTC doesn't make cases for their phones. I could be wrong since I've only seen 3rd party case makers...
The only place I know they are selling this one is from coolblue in belgium and netherlands they claim to be an exclusive seller of this one.
silver desire at coolblue
@ohyeahar - That's what I thought originally, that it might be overexposed, but then I thought that couldn't be the explanation.
@Staticsoul - Thanks heaps for this, it looks great imo. However it doesn't have the red trimming around the camera, hmm... But's it a step in the right direction, thanks guys!
This IMO is how HTC have managed to cash in while NOT having this phone exclusive to a network.
They will offer the Silver Colour exclusive to one network in each region, similar to how Nokia do it. So for Example, in the UK all networks may get the normal Desire but T-Mobile could get the normal and exclusively get the silver desire.
I have read that the red trim on the camera will not be on the desire when it releases the picture you're showing is a prototype model.
Hmm, that's a bit disappointing...
I'm inclined to purchase the phone from smartphone shop, however I can't read Dutch!
Also the phone will work on my current network's (Vodafone) frequencies but Three Mobile (which I'm going to get) only supports UMTS 2100 in Australia. This phone (if purchased from Belgium) doesn't seem to support 2100, according to the web site anyhow...
I could flash to a UK ROM soon after release but I'm not sure how long an upload of different ROM's to the internet typically takes soon after release... Depending on how long it takes I might be chewing up a lot of credit with Vodafone due to the data-intensive apps that I plan to run.
I don't think they ship anywhere else than belgium or the netherlands. but maybe there are other retailers that sell it exclusively in the UK?
Does anyone know about the black one? I've seen the black several places, and I think it looks much sexier than the brown one. So the question is where to get it

Yeah, I saw it there after making my post. Exclusive for France, though? That would suck
I also read a few places (after posting) that the black one might be promo-model only, which could be true, considering that the pictures I've seen are all the same (iirc), and that those obviously aren't of the retail version, because there is a few differences from the other versions we've seen. However, I saw a black one in a video, that looked just like the final versions, so I'm still confused.

Hi,
I am currently travelling at Hongkong, here in Mongkok district of Hongkong, there are hundreds of shops selling mobile phones at 'quite cheap' prices.
I just bought a HTC desire, it was sealed with plastic, and the storekeeper said that it was a HTC desire with HK warranty. For HKD 4100.
I wanted to buy 2 units, one for my sister. But the store only has 1. So I went to a store next door, and the storekeeper said what I just bought must have been a 'refurbished' one. He said the normal price in HK should be around HKD4250 - HKD4300.
Question is, Are there really any method to check whether this new phone I just bought isn't a refurbished one? or a second hand sold as a new unit ? seeing me as a foreigner, they would think I am easier to trick.
Blackberry units, at least, has its own call/data meter, which is unresettable, so I could easily know whether the unit was new or not..
here is the photo of the phone in the store

if you take the back cover off there are two screws at the top right and bottom right that should have "Void" stickers on... not sure if there is anything else you can check, software is guarenteed to be reset, maybe check for signs of wear on the screws while your there..
from what I heard, the store would go as far as replacing a new outer case for it.
I didn't see any signs of wear on the screws though...
Are there really no method by software to know whether this phone has ever been used before (call/data) ?
if there is no way of telling, whats that point in finding out?

because there is no way of telling just by looking from the cases and screws, now I am asking whether there are methods to find out by software/system ? something like a call/data meter which is un-reset-able. are there any?
I have been in Hong Kong last week myself and bought my Desire there.
The best price that was offered to me was at Tsim Sha Tsui at a shop right opposite of the mosque in a corner store on Nathan street. They asked for 3500 HK$ and I could bargain them down to 3100. After I agreed they told me they would need to unlock the phone and I should not make any updates afterwards. I did not like that and got my money back right away. They explained to me that these cheap offers are imports from the US. They need to unlock them since they are branded, that is why they are that cheap.
For 4100 you should get a regular unbranded and unlocked phone.
If you're unsure, as was I, go to Fortress - they might be a bit more expensive (I paid 4450 HK$) but you get a proper guarantee plus an 8 GB memory card add-on and they put on a display protection right in the store. Not to forget the good feeling about having avoided to be fooled ... ;-)
One thing that just popped up in my mind:
Why don't you just call HTC support and ask them? I called them course I had some questions and they registered me as a customer. They would immediately be able to tell where the phone comes from and how old it is - or if the IMEI is a fake. You could even tell them a fa- ehm I mean they do not check if your name is really your name...
Now I'm not one to be jealous of iPhone users, but having seen this it makes me crave after a stainless steel back for my Desire. I have to admit the iPhone 4 is a good looking phone and this steel cover makes it look amazing but, you'd never catch me ever wanting anything on aesthetics alone (or anything that includes crappy iOS ). I've been looking around the net for a while now to no avail. Does anyone know of anywhere that might sell something similar to this?

That's probably true. With the antenna being right at the bottom of the phone, the grey rubber bit (where all the physical buttons are) will still allow some signal to reach the antenna. Does anyone know where the WiFi antenna is? I heard it's sorta midway down. Putting my hand against the middle does seem to attenuate the WiFi signal so a metal back probably isn't the best idea. That iPhone sure looks stunning though!

I'm sure it's the top left of the phone (viewing from the back). The last time a saw one in an exploded view it was right next to the bluetooth label.

Thanks that's very useful to know. Will try and avoid placing my hand there when in landscape mode. When the signal's already been through a couple walls, the last thing it wants to do is to nudge its way through my grubby hands.

Dear Sir or Madam,
I have just seen the metal back cover you have on sale for the iPhone 4 (http://cnn.cn/shop/apple-iphone-beveled-back-cover-blacksilver-metal-insert-p-10351.html) and I was wondering if you have anything similar in production for the HTC Desire? I personally feel that a steel back cover for the HTC Desire would be a best seller for you as millions of people worldwide have bought the HTC Desire and it has also been voted as T3's phone of the year. I hope to hear from you soon,
Thanks, David Jones.

Hi
Bought mine from Allphones for $668 in Adelaide metro area.
Keep phoning stores; some will say it only comes with a plan, others will have unlocked models you can buy outright.
A few notes:
It only takes MicroSim, so if you have standard SIM it won't fit and you'll have to order MicroSim.
It is fast and snappy, Quadrant is 5006.
Screen is not as crisp and clear as Samsungs S Amoled, doesn't come close!
Screen (on mine anyway) has a yellow tint.
Cheers

The screen issues are disturbing. You going to follow up with the retailer? In all the reviews I've read no-one has mentioned a yellow tint before.
Did Allphones have black and white?
No yellow here. Micro sim can be made from normal size one. Just be careful not to cut the metal contacts and your fine.

After two day there is one scratch on the screen
I cut the sim as in the video but did not work in the one x it seems it dependent in the metal contacts size of the sim

Hi
Allphones only had white. It looks quite ok and not easily marked.
Regarding the screen it looks like previous htc phones which had the same tint. My Samsung Note has more clarity and colours are richer. Its simply the Super Amoled technology - it's better. Im sure my eyes will adjust plus I recall an app that may adjust the hue.

For people who can't just order a micro sim (not all carrier's will supply one without losing your number....)
Buy a Noosy Micro SIM Cutter,
I paid under £4 & it comes with 2 adapters that turn it back into a regular size sim card.
I'm currently using my cut sim card in my SGS2 using the supplied adapters (until my HTC ONE X arrives)

And here is a repair guide for those of you who are brave enough!
And a https://www.ifixit.com/Teardown/OnePlus+One+Teardown/26484 for those who wish to repair the phone themselves.
@zephiK thanks ill add to op
In the ifixit teardown I noticed that the battery is not TOO difficult to remove. Does anyone know if replacement batteries are available for this device.
It is using a 3.8v 3100mah LiPo battery.
OnePlus probably woudn't sell the batteries on their own. I also read on another forum somewhere (can't remember which one now) somebody was thinking of creating a way that the battery connector could be extended and fit into the battery compartment. This way you wouldn't have to unscrew the plate just to take out the battery.
Even if this is not feasible it would still be reassuring to know where to purchase replacement batteries from. If anybody knows anything on this, please let us know, thanks.
Thanks for the link. Where is the repair guide? I see a Teardown link.

When installed does this have little dots on the top of the screen. A friend just recently had a new 3rd party screen/digitizer installed on her G2 and you can see like small dots spaced perfectly across the phone. I am wondering if she just got a low quality replacement.
I've tried many times to repair my phones myself, every single time there was something gone wrong  Anyway glad to hear this :victory:

I'we seen 6 OPO's (with different dates of production) and all of them have yellow band at the bottom of the screen, so I can assumed that the most of OPO's have yellow band. My three friends says, tahey have no yellow band, but it is defenitely there (maybe they don't want to see it).
Go search for "Yellow" in OPO pages and you will see that so much people talk about it.
Even OPO admitted, that every 1+ have slightly yellow band on bottom of their phones.

Mine doesn't have the yellow band either. I thought it was a bold statement.
I received 2 and neither had the yellow band. I am certain that I have at least average color differentiation.
Can confirm no yellow banding on mine

Got my M9 Silver today, and the antenna lines on back are black, but in the official photos, shows white. Someone knows anything about that? Thank's.
If its the gunmetal grey then the lines are black.

No, it's the silver, not the dark grey (gunmetal). I never seen the silver with black lines, but the seller said it's normal comes with black or white lines on the back. What do you think?

Actually, there is a M8 gold with black stripes.
M8 had gold with black antenna but I am yet to see a M9 gold with black antenna online.
@ eduardopfreire you could call up the htc customer care and verify whether your phone is legit or not by giving them the IMEI number.
Me too, I got the gold one and it has black line!!
I had checked the model and it is htc one m9w , also the version of the software is lollipops 5.1 and I can't update it into marshmallow .
Is there a way to update it?
I just contacted the support, and they said this is a Limited Edition. He even congrats me for have this phone. So, it's not fake. It's ok.

But does the m9w have Snapdragon 810 or some other processor? And does it heat too much while running lollipop? Just wanted to clarify. Also I think it may be like a limited release edition thus making it slightly more valuable.
