Hi Dreadlord,
In a nutshell, yes, it is possible to update your unit.
My personal recommendation to you is that you stay with what you have. Presently, there are few advantages that you, as an end user, would gain from an upgrade to WM5. Perhaps, it's just an appearance issue..?
To Upgrade a BA to WM5 requires some end user knowledge of the day to day running of the device and if you're having problems understanding the daily terms within posts here then you might end up damaging your BA.
Don't forget that these ROMS are not official releases. They are patched reverse engineered Operating Systems that still, at this stage, feature bugs & code issues. Granted they are getting better with each release and I strongly believe that one day they'll be a "plug & Play" version that people can just load and use..
This is why I presently am running the latest 1.42 WWE ROM for WM2003SE.. Yes, I have updated my BA to WM5 several times but I have always downgraded again to WM2003SE as so far as I rely on my BA too much for it to use [compared to WM2003SE] an unstable system.
Another thing is that the majority of users on this forum have all had to read the wiki on here and learn. There's very few people who are lucky enough to have this kind of information in their brains already. (Click the link in my Signature to start reading Wiki)
You might not get a good response from others on here if you reply in bold (or caps) stating that you don't understand things - It's not their fault you don't know..
Hope this helps..
Cheers!
Blah Blah.. etc etc.. Hehe
My previous post was my 100th - I'm an an old salt now.. hehe.. Apologies for not being around lately.. I've been in a different country!
Hope all is well with everyone..?
I've noticed the high degree of work that's been done lately on WM5 and all I can say is:

Take care all - it's nice to be back!
I want 2 know who has the best rom from here , but i want 2 have touch flo on the rom and htc home plugin , so i wait an answer .. i`m a fresh user of the htc and of the forum ..
tnx in advance
There is no such thing as best rom since you would be offending the cooks
be gratefull and pick out which ever one is to oyur liking!
There are only ROMs with buttonflo integrated so far (turning by button presses, not by fingers) and they are fairly old. If you want finger scroll possibility and the cube you can flash whatever ROM you like and then install fTouchFlo and Slither's Flash Cube. Which is the best ROM depends on your needs and demands -read the ROMs threads about their advantages/issues - use your own head to figure out what you need. Asking this question can lead to serious flaming (because it is asked VERY often).

Welcome
pyrogfx,
Welcome to the forum. Here are a few tips to get you started in the right direction. Read the xda-wiki. Karhu came out with a really good thread on benchmarks, go here http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=320370
And you already been introduced to some of the senior members, you have to be really careful on the questions that you ask here. As, leoiden, and Karhu pointed out, you can be asking for serious flaming, asking for a ROM that will not brick your phone.
If you read the wiki, your phone should be ok for flashing, and it won't get bricked. But, the key is to read the wiki and read the threads, then when you have exhausted all this, and you still don't understand, just ask. But, from one member to another, just be careful on how you say things, and word your questions.
Also, you might want to copy the format of my signature, as it has helped me when I would ask questions, senior members where able to get a better understanding of what I already had, so I didn't have to put into every single post.
I hope this helps.
The Best ROM for the Tytn
Hey pyro, they are right. All of the cooks are great. Another thing to keep in mind is that we are using WINDOWS mobile, which means you will have lock ups and unexplained errors from time to time, no matter which rom you use.
That said, there are some cookers who put stuff on the roms that I prefer over the others. My two favorites right now for the Tytn are Schap and ItsRight. Itsright also does some cool wizard roms.
Every cooker stands on the shoulders of others. None of them would be much without the likes of faria, vijay, and tons of others.

When I bought my first PPC, I didn't have a clue on how to mod it, or do any of the cool stuff I saw other people were doing. I read the forums for a good week, and tried to find out all the info I could. Afterwards, I tried a few mods and they worked! There were a couple of times where I couldn't figure something out, THATS when I posted and asked questions that were answered by forum members. You have to do some reading, research & experimentation about things first, you can't just post a general question and expect everyone to spoon-feed you the information. Read a few threads dealing with how to do what you want to do, use the search, and you will see someone has asked the same questions you have now. Download the .CAB files you need, and happy modding!
thanks mate
all i want to know is if i am using the right software i download something name the diamondtf3d i can chage the skin but the skin comes like half way down the screen i guess that because it was design for the diamond which has a small screen so i want to know if there is a version for the blackstone
Depends on the theme. Some themes can be obtained by just replacing manilla files in your Windows folder. Search for instructions in the appropriate theme thread.
Regards,
Carty..
thanks mate
well right now i am using a program name diamond tf3d config and the themes are coming like half way in the screen can some one help me plz
can the diamond TF3D config used to edit/add themes for HTC HD / blackstone? will there be any problem?
Using a Diamond tool on your Blackstone/HD could cause trouble because the screen resolution and size are way different (Blackstone 480x800, Diamond 640x480)
I have seen a new device offering this feature and I thought it should be possible also on our blackstones since we have accelerometer.
As a lot of guys joining this forum are very experienced, I ask you if it is possible and if someone could create a dedicate soft.
Thanks in advance
nobody interested in developing such an application?
i'm interested but im not a developer
yes alot of chinese phones can do this... it can change page also.. shake it to the left or right...
Dear cookers on XDA,
I am a kinda rookie on the cooking area. And i would love to make my own ROM with my stuff and etc in it. But its pretty hard with minimum info on the internet. I have searched many times on the internet for a good tutorial how to cook your own rom, or how to edit a rom. Only found 1 pretty good tutorial but it wasnt a perfect one with the needed details.
Now my question is, can somebody make a good tutorial how to edit/make/cook a rom?
With like everything in it, like add/remove your apps/cabs change your splash screen etc. I would realy love that!
I think im not the only one who likes this, a good tutorial about cooking!
So i hope that somebody can make one!
Yours,
Ruubs
(Sorry for my bad english)
The Tutorials exist in this very thread. A simple search would allow you to see them.
Here is one for 6.1.
For 6.5, not really a tutorial but it can get you started HERE
Thank you,
but i allready used that tutorial, and that one is not the best one, much bugs in it. and i also need a tutorial or instructions how to edit an already cooked rom.
and i also used that 6.5 kitchen, its a nice one but the kitchen issnt ready yet. and i cant edit an already cooked rom with it.

not all cooked roms are for edit.
some cookers minimize it so much for performance or ram,
that the roms cant be edit.
and some cookers dont want that other people edits .... why? dont know.

Would you like your work to be ripped off, retagged so someody can pass it as their own?
you got a point, but some people like me, just want their own apps and other crap in it, just made for your own.

In the Diamond ROM development section is a thread 'noob kitchen'.
It started about someone asking for a light ROM and how to add his own stuff, it ended up me and him discovering how to cook and describing the first steps at how to start and the things to do afterwards.
The short answer:
Get a simple kitchen to start with, bebe's own kitchen on platformrebuilder is a good start (visual-kitchen is complete but can be complex if you just start).
Dump a stock rom with it (bebe has excellent example-videos on his forum) and start playing.
With the new rom-unlocker you can dump more existing roms, but it is VERY important to remember the wishes of the original cook. Don't go posting it around.
If you get into the more 'advanced' stuff like porting os-builds a complex kitchen with more tools ready like ervius visual-kitchen is good.

no problem.
if i could make a people happy with a rom that was generated by deleting files/entries here and there or putting files/entries here and there by respecting the syntax, that was finding out by really roots, than is o.k. for me.
if we look back than we have to say that we all marked roms with our names.
only some people, not much, are the really cookers (roots). the most of them stopped their works and change it back to their life (study finished, wife comes back from hospital, but not alone, a small think, i think it called baby
we need people like you describe ... cause changing my name to his name means that their spend time to learn/understand structure and syntax. some new ideas can grown up.
the new kind of kitchens can do seperate languages, xips, roms, syss and oems by using "grafical interface". but when we do a snapshot of this kitchens, you get a better dos-optic by using more mouse for adding/deleting completly folders. no details. enough good for beginners, but a step back for not-beginners. i think, its time to say, that kitchens couldn't be a one-man-project, lets help you and seperate the works. with deep-detail-love.
for beginners i say "respect the search-functions, dont use a specified devicename like diamond touch blablabla. but use htc as devicename for more tips. the cook-rules/syntax are nearly the same for all htc's"
for no-beginners with strong answers i want to say "if you angry to reading a question now for 100 times ... nobody kills you, if you NOT answer!!!"
