When you get your phone unlocked it just allows you to use different carriers sim cards. It is no longer locked onto their system. You could then use a ATT phone on Rogers for instance.
If you are refering to HardSPL, and I think you may be, that allows you to write unsigned roms and radios to the phone. Without the HardSPL the phone will not process any rom but the ones that are signed by that carrier or HTC. You would not be able to flash any cooked roms until you get the phone HardSPLed. After that is done you can continue to use the stock rom, flash a cooked rom or different radio. The phone will not relock so flash away.
On verizon I need to call and reprogram my phone with a custom ID everytime I hard flash. not the normal phone programming, I litterally have to call and manually enter a number to get my phone working again. Not sure if this is the same for other carriers, but I have a feeling they might get suspicious if it happens a lot.

That's because the activation of a CDMA phone is stored on the phone itself. In GSM phones the activation is stored on the SIM card so this should not be a problem.
i mean paying to unlock my phone or calling att because i will travel very soon. and if i flash another rom do i have pay to unlock it again or not.
no, sim unlock will stay, it will not re-lock if u flash a new rom.
Dont pay for a sim unlock, just call at&t and tell them your going overseas for business and need the unlock code. They'll email it to you within a week.
I have a hrad time believing they will just give you an unlock code when they go through all the trouble of locking them and keeping them locked.

You don't have to believe us. I've done it a few times, as have many other users on this board, but you don't have to believe us, try it yourself
Is it really that easy to unlock your phone? I am going to try it. Thanks guys.

Is it possible to use the ATT&T unlock code and procedure on a Tilt2 that has already been flashed with Energy ROM?
If you already flashed a cooked ROM (Like Energy´s) it means your Rhodium is already unlocked
So no need to do it again, now you can flash any ROM (stock or cooked) you want!
Don´t forget to vote!
yes, the ROM is unlocked. But I am asking about the SIM. When the SIM is unlocked then you can use the phone on any carrier, not just AT&T.
Sorry, misunderstood
I would assume so, just get the code and put in a foreign SIM card and it should ask you for the unlock code which you then enter.
I can't imagine changing the software will change the code which is always the same and based on the IMEI.
Which is why with the older phones, it was easy to crack the algorithm, now a days they have made it harder but I guess it is still possible. Mostly these days the cracks come from sniffing the code out using software on the device (you couldn't flash old Nokia's, so you had to break the algorithm) or buy injecting a hack (like the iPhone's unlock) that hides the real unlock hardware/radio/software and just always responds unlocked.
Thankx for the clear answer. I received the unlock code from AT&T and when I am in the foreign country and put the foreign SIM in, then I'll keep my fingers crossed that the phone will ask me to input the code.

You can unlock it now. Just get a T-mobile SIM and put it in your AT&T Tilt2. It'll boot up and ask for your unlock code.
Hello
I just wanted to say HI. I just registered. Been exploring this site for some time now. I have the touch pro 2. I really like it. I have had a lot of phones, mostly iphones and blackberries (I used to sell them). Done a lot of unlocking, but now am getting into serious business
So just wanted to say Hi. Thanks for helping me get an education. I will say this information is very hard to navigate though. You guys are amazingly smart about this stuff.
So far I have the MightyROM. Trying to understand the different types of locks/locking. For the TP2. From Iphones I learned about basebands and firmwares. This TP2 is on a whole new level by comparison though. Very confusing. Trying to skim through the wiki. Information seems hard to come by. I have basic knowledge only pretty much, but it's all diverse (done light java programming, etc...)
Really interested in the Registry edit capabilities. Right now I just have Rescoe. I thought for sure there would be a way to unlock by going that route but doesn't seem to work on anything I have tried. Don't really understand the parameters/keys and don't know how exactly to find out.
I will just keep plugging away I guess. Tried to buy the security unlocker but ran into problems with paypal freezing my account and what not... I really hate paypal...
Thanks though. You guys do great things!
What is Security Unlock?
Ok hello again, I now have a very good question I think:
What is Security Unlocking?
I was reading the wiki and that clarified a lot of things for me as far as CID/ROM unlocking and SIM unlocking but I didn't see anything about security unlocking. I am under the impression that I need to security unlock but I don't know why and I would really like to know.
Last nite I tried to download and install the radio upgrades from Olipro but the phone bricked into bootloader and I had to reflash the mighty ROM to get it back up and running again. As my understanding is that I am currently CID/ROM unlocked but I can't seem to unlock the Radio/GSM without Security unlocking. Can please tell me why? Is this an added mechanism to prevent this that is recent advancement on the carriers part I am guessing but how does it work and why? Thanks so much if you tell me!!!

what do you mean by trying to unlock the radio? SIM unlock?
security unlock allows flashing non-stock radios. (but you must pay attention if you're flashing a radio that's compatible with your phone model.)

Well I'm not quite sure but I will explain what I am seeing.
When I put a SIM in the network doesn't register but it shows the new phone number in phone settings on the first tab. On the second tab in 'Network' it doesn't detect and keeps saying "searching for network" etc...
My radio says WF. the hhspl works fine and I can flash any ROM. The only ROM I haven't tried is a GSM ROM because in my understanding that bricks the phone (What is the brick? Tricolor? Black screen?). However I haven't been able to flash any Radio's at all. It gets to 100% and then quits with an error and reverts the phone to tricolor screen and the only way to get it out is to Reflash a ROM. I was able to Flash a Sprint ROM with the windows mobile 6.1 version. I have to say that one really sucks lol but it did manage to change the radio version. After I changed the Radio Version to 1.96WF I reflashed back to MightyROM and tried to run the unlocker again, didn't work. Then I tried to reflash another radio. Didn't work and bricked the phone to tricolor/bootloader again.
So am I CID locked Or Security locked? Either way the process should work I thought? None of the programs seem to be doing what they are fully designed to do.
Thnx a bunch!
Something!
I purchased a brand new T-Mobile SIM and IT REGISTERED!
I was able to call the T-Mobile Help line.
There was some trouble with the activation, but I think I got it. I guess I didn't need the security unlock after all???
weird. And the radio version is sprint. In my understanding, a sprint baseband/radio is not supported on T-mobile, yet I have access to the frequencies/bands. For example on an iphone in order to pick up frequencies from T-mobile or any other GSM carrier you have to upgrade the baseband/radio version to one that supports those frequencies. The last iphone I had I had to use an IPAD baseband in order to unlock it. So this is completely different.
THIS MAKES ME VERY VERY CURIOUS!
Yea the security unlocker doesn't work for the U.S. Cell version... at least mine it doesn't. I made some youtube videos and a thread to show that. I figured out another way to unlock though using the HardSPL, Flashing to a Sprint Stock ROM to get that radio, and then flashing again to MightyROM.
What I meant by unlocking the radio is basically I am thinking of the radio in terms of the radio picks up certain signals (like 800mhz, 850mhz, 1900mhz, etc...) but each carrier prevents their radios from picking up all but one of the signal, the one they use, and prevents the rest from communicating with the device (guessing this would be the device modem?) so when I say "unlock Radio" I was meaning unlock those other frequencies and get rid of the programming which blocks them and use my device to full capability.
So now I get to see what this baby can really do thanks

if you only flashed Hard-SPL, then you are still security locked in terms of radio.
Hard-SPL is only designed to unlock the SPL, not the radio. so, it does do what it was designed to do, unlocks your phone for normal ROM flashing.

both Hard-SPL and our sim/security unlocker (separate program from Hard-SPL) work for US cellular tp2.
as for the Tmobile SIM, some of the newer SIM cards will work with that sprint radio. not all of these SIM cards will.
I have a SaskTel Samsung Galaxy S3 (SGH-I747M, baseband version I747MVLLE8) that is locked, and I want to unlock it. But when I insert a foreign SIM (from AT&T) I get no prompt for an unlock code. Instead it just says "No SIM card. Emergency calls only." I've contacted several of the online unlock code suppliers and they say without this prompt I can't unlock the phone. I've also tried to enter variations of the *7465625* code, but they do nothing at all. SaskTel says they don't provide unlock code. This despite the fact that I purchased the phone outright, and have no contract with them. Am I totally hooped, or is there some way I can get this phone unlocked?

Try this

Possible, but I doubt it, since it works just fine in another phone. In any case I don't have another one to try.

#7465625*638*UNLOCKCODE#
I noticed in an earlier post, the place of the unlock code was after the #, it should be before. On the right track though. Probably just a typo.

That and probably every variation of it I can think of! I am wondering though, is this code internal only to the phone, or does it go to the cellular network? When I do type it, it does nothing, though if I send it I get an "Invalid USSD" message returned from the network.

this code doesn't work on the LTE variants of the SGS3. most of the multi-stage codes (####*###) don't work, you just end up with an error.
Correct as stated. Additionally, if you have a foreign micro sim, and you are not on a stock ROM, the unlock screen prompt will not show. I was running AOKP, and could not get the prompt to show, so I flashed back to stock, unlocked phone, then flashed back to AOKP, bc TW sucks!

did u cut ur at&t sim down to size ? maybe u did it wrong and it wont recognize, or ur sim slot is ****ed up ....
ur best bet right now is to try another micro sim
Ok, I've now got my phone rooted. Can someone suggest how I can get the ROM set so that it will allow me to enter the unlock code when I insert a foreign SIM.
There's a 3rd potential method that hasn't been mentioned on here that we see working for most Samsung handsets. In fact, for some Samsung handsets (usually older ones) it is the only unlocking method that will work.
It is:
1. Turn on the phone with a non accepted or accepted SIM card inserted
2. Type #0111*CODE# replacing CODE with your network unlock code
However, if your service provider lock is active, then you'll need to use the code #0133*CODE# instead.
All unlocking methods (once you have the unlock code) are available here: http://www.mobileunlocked.co.uk/samsung-instructions.asp
Hope that helps.
Did you manage to unlock?
I'm facing the exact same issue. My S3 doesn't show the network unlock prompt when I insert a foreign SIM. Mine is locked to AT&T. It's also SGH-I747 model
You could try and unlock your phone as per this thread:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2033225
Then try the SIM card after the phone is unlocked.
Oh, I believe this only works on Stock ROMS.

Follow the link Tybalt quoted, you will unlock your phone and the sim won't ask for an unlock code because well, it's unlocked.... Follow the instructions, you need to be on JB 4.11 for this to work, some have had success on custom roms but not many....you don't need to root to do this and make sure when you see the success code you have 40 at the end not 30... i did this a couple times... 30 I think basically means you have locked it again ... and in the instructions when it says wait 30 or 60 seconds... you really do have to wait.. don't be impatient....it's a huge thread with many many successes.....
Samsung Galaxy S3
I have the same issue but I have a sgh-i747 Samsung galaxy S3 i brought it to koodo and was told it was a compatible phone with the company when unlocked. The problem/question i have is When i insert my new simcard the screen will not display any prompt to input a unlock code. It just says emergency calls only or unregistered sim. I inserted my sim card into another s3 same model, software versions, different provider, and the phone asked for the unlock code right when powered on. So i tried and flashed a new firmware but its doing the same thing.
I called koodo and they gave me instructions to create a new apn of Koodo SP it did not make my phone prompt me for an unlock code.
When i send an email to any website about unlocking my phone they advice me not to purchase there product if my phones not prompting me for a unlock code that will it more then likely not work.
I've seen methods online of using these to input an unlock code "#0111*UNLOCKCODE#" or "#7465625*638*UNLOCKCODE#" but when i tell the unlock website this information this still tell me not to purchase there product and i mean many numerous websites. I do not want to buy an unlock code only to try to input it with these methods and have it not work. Which i highly dought it would because the normal 7465625 command doesnt work either.
I also tried this factory unlock and it did nothing
PLEASE HELP!?!?

Thank you so much for this!
Whenever I typed any variation of the #7465625 code I would get the "emergency calls only" message. #0111*CODE# did the trick!
The provider didn't even know this, the best they could come up with after numerous calls to their hotline is that the phone was broken and/or that the SIM card was badly inserted, thus I should mail them the phone to the other side of the country for unlocking. Would they even have known how to do it over there?
My grandma says thanks!

From what I know, no, it might not work because the phone might not even ask for the code.
In order to unlock the phone you have to insert a NON accepted sim and get it to prompt for the "SIM network unlock PIN".
If this is the situation, you can try flashing and see if it prompts for the code with your friends sim card.
IF, however, it does ask for the code, just try it first. If it doesn't work you have to flash back to stock Tmobile firmware, Unlock it, then it will work with you friend.
I recommend a few sites like cellphoneunlock.net or cellunlocker.net as I have had much success with them over the years. I don't know if you are using other sites but I am just contributing what I know so far
Good luck to you and your friend! :good:

Just make sure the ROM you are flashing supports official HTC codes, I think that is how it goes.
I can say that if you need codes use cellunlocker.net , they are pretty legit.

Do I need to get it back to the AT&T firmware to be able to unlock it? If so, how can I do this?

wow, yeah, that's unfortunate. First, yes, it's the at&t firmware that the unlock code works with, not any other firmware.
second, at&t doesn't make their kdz available, so you have no easy way to get back to their firmware.
you might get lucky and find someone who has backed up all their partitions from at&t. Then u would flash ea one back via qfil.
Important lesson: don't buy a locked phone. if u get a locked phone, don't to anything to the firmware until u unlock the phone.
cheers

To the best of my knowledge, no. At&t is one of the carriers that has restrictions for their networks. Last I read (have never used them personally), they only allow phones that have their IMEI (they check that), and it's using their ROM, to access volte and vowifi.
so, would it work? yes and no. Volte and Vowifi may or may not be important to you.
Additionally, I'm absolutely no expert with at&t, so u might just try and find out, my info could be outdated.
