Who's getting this phone? I definitely am although I might wait until April when it's on all 5 UK Networks to see which one I can get the best deal on.
It wont be that much of a wait http://desirehtc.com/ counts to 31st March so I assume that's the T-mobile release

Ooooh.
I'm due an upgrade on 7th April and I already have a Nexus
Deffo getting this phone, cant wait for it to come out...
Im considering going to tmobile for it. But im currently with o2 sim only and been told i could get a good deal if i moved to a full contract...
However Im starting to get pretty tired with o2s network. I might just move to tmobile out of spite

I live in Birmingham and I'm always getting problems on T-mobile with 3G. Sometimes I can't get 3G at all and it will drop to 2G. Problem is I live in Birmingham City Centre which as you can imagine being the Second City is fine on every other network, even getting full HSDPA speeds on most
5 or 6 times during my contract period (am on month 13) I've also had the signal drop. Completely no signal, no calls or texts, no internet. I've had to "Force only 2G Networks" in order to get a signal back
I also wouldn't go for T-Mobile because they'll most likely rename it from the HTC Bravo to something daft like T-Mobile G3 Touch 3G and remove all HTC branding and replace it with the T-Mobile logo, although this might not bother you
I thought it was being released on the 26th March on T-mobile and Orange.
My mums on Tmobile and i just find when compairing signal strenth that o2 seems to be soo bloody low... For instance in my office lower ground floor of my house in central london no less... I cant get any signal yet with my mums phone its pretty good... Its even worse in rural areas.
And as for network drops... o2s data network keeps randomly dying... You can connect to the data network but not have access to the internet...

Maybe Orange is the way forward? They are supposedly the UK's biggest 3G network although if rumours are true they're going to preload the device with a whole load of their orange crap applications
I wont touch orange ever again... Besides there data tarrif is a joke.

Reason? (I'm not challenging you I'm just curious as I'm also trying to pick a network)
Good coverage... Terrible price and its eather 256MB a month FUP might of been raised to 500 but its still petheticly nothing compaired to the other networks.
im at £35pm wit n95 8gb and considering getting hd2 or desire but atm cannot make my mind up cuz i dont have a clue whats androids capable of what are the dis/advantages and wots it like comparing to winmo
Thinking about getting this with the money insurance company paid for my "broken" nexus one.
Cant decide wich one is really better, will be a shame to loose fastboot unlocking but nice to get hw buttons. :|

It is 500Mb and has been for for at least a year, not that bad when you consider that Vodafone is also only 500Mb and they are probably the only 2 networks I would look at.
O2's network is a complete joke speeds are so slow who cares if they give you more bandwidth when you struggle to use it.
T-Mobile has poor customer service and is in the process of a merger with Orange
Personally I find 500Mb more than enough and if I am using lots of data I just use WiFi so have never gone over that limit
Have you tried an HD2 (aka HTC Leo), compared to this wot do u think, nexus is better or the HD2
ur opinion????
I really wanted to get this on o2 but now people's comments have put me off
I definately know I want a HTC Handset and not something rebranded by the network (ie what t-mobile do)
I'd hold up and see what happens with the motoroi (720p video, 8mp camera with xenon flash, hdmi out, not sure about the cpu, may be the 550mhz which would then be a no go.......)
According to the count down on http://www.desirehtc.com/
HTC Desire will launch on 01.04.2010 1:00 CET
Hopefully this is not a Aprils'joke or how you call that in english. EDIT: "April Fools' Day"
I read the Desire will be available at the end of April, so why on 1st April?

It's the 30th March isn't it?
It launches on T-Mobile at the end of march, everywhere else the beginning of april
No, rather 31st March. But on 23:59.59
So more likely on 1st of April.
26th March, according to the Official TMobile UK Twitter guru. @TMobileOfficial
And I cant wait, going to upgrade from my G1 for it.
I had been happy to keep using the G1 as there wasn't anything else that had my interest, but this definitely has!

I had an EVO since it came out last year , then in April /May I noticed some bad data speeds coming in , I didn't really care got me a nexus , bad speeds sometimes too and then a epic to play around and meanwhile a thunderbolt(LTE ) from work , anyways Sprint speeds since I got my EVO (last year ) have really dropped and idk if anyone have notice this and other states , maybe the now network is getting to crowded ? Idk but I like my EVO a lot but sprint is really making want to switch back to Verizon

4G in both networks

Wimax isn't LTE so it'll never be fun there. That doesn't explain the 3g but it's all about which upside is bigger.

Sprint says they don't throttle, but 4g always disappears under heavy data use. My hero had way faster 3g than my evo. Sprint is really starting to irritate me.

This has been a ongoing thing since last december. Sprint tries to play dumb as usual and they try to get you to believe it's your phone. They send you to the store to get the phone looked at and once it's confirmed that it is not that, they try to blame it on something else. I got a $50.00 credit a month ago and will call again in a few months for another one. If they want to give crappy service then they should not be making full profit off me. Simple as that. They can see how much data speed your getting so call them and see if they can compensate you for it.

They gave you credit ? Wow well I was on the phone with them for an hour them they called me back in two hours and then another they told me to run speed test on mobile speed test .com and some info that I got with those ## codes , they told me some other technician was going to call me and he did(the next day ) , he asked me if I could give him another test I was like alright , he said everything is fine in my area and told me it was my phone , to take it to the Sprint retail store, I took it and it was the epic that I had at the time (last week ) and when I got there the guy said is rooted , I was like ok that has nothing to do with it , then he took me right next to another epic and said look that's how a epic supposed to look ( showing me the launcher ) I was like wow dude this is launcher pro from the market you know , and I show him , anyways he is like ok let me run it in my machine to make sure your phone is fine , 20 minutes later he came out show me the speed test were the same as before and the same as his EVO 3D so I was like wtf ? I haven't call them back again but I think I should to get me some credit over bad service

believe me I had to fight for it. They won't budge till you tell them to cancel your line immediately. I told the guy I have no problem walking away this minute and then he was like, let me put you on hold. Then he said I'll call you tomorrow. He called me a couple days later and said I will apply $10.00 for every month my service was slow. Since it started in december and this was May when this happened, I let it slide at that. I told him I will call in another 6 months to get another credit. I also argued about my upgrade being taken and he said to call back when my original upgrade date came. It's very unfortunete because I like sprint and been with them 7 years. Data on my touchpro used to hit 2mb and now I am luck to see 300k on my evo.

I haven't gotten above 150kbps since last November. Before that, I would consistently get 2mbps. I have spent many many hours on the phone with sprint, they have given me 6 replacement phones, nothing worked. They basically said the towers in my area are overloaded, but they have no clue when they will be fixed. I'm no genius, but if this area has gotten TOO MANY subscribers lately, I would think they would want to fix it so a ton of people aren't getting crappy service.

sprint speeds
Every where in Michigan you can not get over 25kBs up/down speeds... that is 1990's dialup.. the whole 3G network is crippled and 4G is a joke but for sprint its a bigger joke because they only offer it in like 2 city's and Meto Detroit apparently is not one of them key markets.... I have ran speed tests on multiple handsets and the best speed test was from an evo and it did one test that got a burst at 45kBs but never again!
I was talking to a Best buy Mobile manager (whos my friend and been there for 6years) and said that sprint has started throttling back their data. I agree and then disagree. THis year i was in memphis and was lucky to get anything. Then back when i had my palm pre i was in a different city in TN and nothing at all.
Hi...
I am not new to this part of the forum and I have searching for long time for an answer to my question.
My device stopped working, so i did a little researched on the forum (like it says on the rules) and figured that my flex cable made the problem.
Ordered one on Ebay and got it.
Today i fixed my phone and it's working (BTW it's T7373), but i noticed that on the cable there is a front camera :O and the phone still working.
Will I be able to use the camera ???
In WinMo, probably. But for what? I'm not sure what use the front cam is in WinMo.
i thought maybe on android with skype...

Android barely supports the back cam. Not sure if the front cam will ever be functional...

So that when you take those lame self pics that everyone likes to do (probably looking slightly up at the phone/camera) you can make sure that you see that the pic is centered properly.

Does your device even have a pin hole for the camera to fit in the front housing? I'm not 100% certain, but only the unlocked and international versions had the hole in the front housing that could seat the camera. Other models had the opaque front panel. My point is that if you didn't have the front camera to begin with, it is highly unlikely that you will be able to use it now.
if you ever open the HTC Touch Pro II version you will know that a Flex Cable with front camera won't fit (because there was a Flex Cable without camera before).
So what i did was simple there are 2 plastics like this | | and i took them out.
like this phone was designed to be with front camera in the future like the Sprint version.

I understand that part. I was questioning the opaque front panel of the device in the top right corner where the camera would normally go. I'll illustrate with an image below.

Wouldn't you need to replace the front panel in order to even get an image from the front camera?

On stock ROMs, it's activated only in the dialer AFAIK. No option to switch in the camera app that I've seen. Video calls are based on the network, though. US carriers don't allow any WM devices to send 3G video calls.

Yea, I originally thought about going with a European model for the front camera, but we found out that all four big US carriers had the video call option blocked. Either way, the VGA front cam isn't very good for video calling or anything at all, for that matter.
EDIT: Another fun bit is that video calling over 3G is worse overall on CDMA than on GSM, due to the technical qualifications of 3G. CDMA classifies 3G as data speeds at or above 100Kbps, which is technically correct according to the definition of 3G. GSM classifies that within EDGE data speeds. For us, it's more like 2.5G. This difference maintains for GSM, a higher QoS for data intensive duties done over 3G/HSPA, by limiting the lower end of the data stream to 350-500Kbps. For me, it doesn't really make a difference other than to serve as bragging rights in my area about how my EDGE speeds are faster than Sprint's 3G speeds most of the time.

If T-Mobile actually has service in your area, they're even cheaper. Pair that $30 unlimited text/data package from Walmart with Google Voice to get a complete Unlimited plan for a whopping $30. T-Mobile doesn't even have 3G where I currently live (I'm not in New Orleans currently). Their EDGE speeds are plenty fast enough.
I've also been with them for 7 or 8 years now out of contract, so I still pay the same $50 a month for everything. It costs $30 for 1000 minutes per month, which is basically unlimited for me since I only use about 500 or 600 a month, $10 for unlimited texts, and $10 for unlimited data. I signed up so long ago that I don't have a data soft cap, or any tethering restrictions. It's wonderful. Add to this the AMAZING customer service they have, and you've got an all-around A+ company. If I were contemplating suicide, I'd call 611, and have a TMo rep talk me down, because they're just that good.
Those are my reasons for not wanting the merger to go through, and why I love Sprint to death for being openly against it, even if it is for their own gain. The only downside to TMo is the coverage. There's no 3G for about 60 miles around me. EDGE works perfectly fine for what I do, though.

Yea, I was. Just a bit.
I have a Nexus 1 and have unlimited data working with the web2go $9.99 plan.
The Nexus S did not work with the web2go because Tmobile blocked it. They had the phones imei #'s. The Nexus one was sold by Google so Tmobile did not have the imei #'s
So going off these facts, If I buy the UK Galaxy Nexus will the web2go data plan work?
did the web2go give you edge speeds, or just 3g speeds? or did it give you HSPA as well? and my last question, will it also give you 4g in the galaxy nexus as well? (if it isn't blocked)

Yes it gives me 3g speeds. I think even HSPA+ speeds too (or what the nexus1 limits are capable of. Posted a pic of speed results i just ran)
About the 4g speeds in the galaxy nexus, well in theory if i web2go works then yes I would think that HSPA+ speeds would be achievable.

Its a $9.99 data plan for dumb phones. Tmobile knows if you are using a dumb phone or a smartphone though. So they wont let you use it, BUT certain phones like the nexus one and other unlocked phones can use this plan by messing with their APN settings.
I believe the setting is internet2.voicestream.com, right? If so, I think as long as the GN is unlocked, it should work. According to this link, GN works on T-Mobile.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1357678
BTW, I'm using a SE X10i from Norway on T-Mobile. No issue w/ internet2.voicestream.com. 3G & all works fine.

Well, up till today, I am still using internet2.voicestream.com. Still pay $9.99 per month. Gets EDGE, 3G, and HSPA depending on area's coverage... (Must say that T-mobile's 3G/H coverage isn't as good as AT&T, but it's cheap...)
I use SE X10i, unlocked, running custom CM7 ROM. Had it for 2 yrs and never had problem with internet2.voicestream.com setting.
Therefore, chances of the same setting working is likely... @ least I'm betting ~$800 on it... =S

Did you order the galaxy nexus? If so, can you please update to see if in fact this works. If it dies I'll have one shipped to me as well. This will be a huge plus for me ordering one.

I know T-Mobile did some sh!t like that on the Nexus S. Coworker bought 1 from Best Buy. Worked fine at first. Then got locked out about a week or less. He then updated his data plan to $30, and works fine again. This kinda crap, I don't think will happen to the UK version. T-Mobile-USA can't have all the IMEI# in the world... We'll see soon enough in a wk or more time if the seller ships on time...
Peace out!

They had the #'s for the Nexus S' sold because they were made for T-mo's AWS 3G. Surely T-mobile got the IMEI's for these.

Will the US carriers ever stop screw their customers over? Probably not. It's kind of sad really but it shows what happens with no competition (as in every phone working on every carrier within the country).
any word with tzones/web2go?
also, i wonder if itd make a difference whether the phones bought from an american vendor, as opposed to an overseas one..
Got my GNex today!! (Am happy man right now!)
Plugged my T-Mobile SIM into the GNex... and guess what? GNex loaded the epc.tmobile.com settings automatically... and it WORKS even tho I am on the $10 plan.
Didn't seem to have any issue after about 1 hr of use... But I switched back to internet2.voicestream.com settings... Don't know if t-mobile tracks users on epc.tmobile.com or not, but better be safe than sorry...
After switching to internet2.voicestream.com, internet is working as it should. No issue after another hr of use...
If things change, will make another post.
PS. BTW, this is UK version's GNex. US version doesn't seem to be supporting GSM bands...
Cool, keep us updated if anything changes!
Had been holding off, but now there's no reason to!
We hope.
Are there any downsides to doing this?
I have a Galaxy Nexus on the way and am not currently a T-Mobile customer. How would I go about getting my GN on the web2go plan?
You can't anymore, unless you already have a T-mob account with that data plan. That's kind of the point. Once you give up the grandfathered data plans, or "upgrade" to an Android data plan (at least $20), it's gone forever. So it behooves anyone who still has it to hold on to it.
Way way back, in the early days of wireless data, T-mobile had a $3? plan, on GPRS. Then it went up to $5. I have the $5.99. Then they started offering a $10 plan. That was available up until maybe last year? I think it's completely unavailable now.

I here a lot of people talking about just how terrible Sprint service is (myself included). I wanted to know how many of you are thinking of leaving Sprint to go to Verizon, AT&T, etc. I definitely know that I will be switching to Verizon after my 2 year contract is up. I love the SGS3 but hate the service. So...who's with me? lol
living just north of Chicago, i have great signal pretty much everywhere and LTE, so I'm lucky in that aspect. plus i use a ton of 4G data
So I am not planning on leaving, but i know if i had crappy service I'd be looking elsewhere.

Probably switching my 5 lines to Straight Talk. 2 unlimited and 3 on the lower level. It will save me a nice chunk of change, and upgrade my service. Never had Wimax, and will never have LTE. I just beg Sprint every month for the usable 3G that I had 20 months ago. We aren't on a "list" to get anything. They are forcing my hand

I live in WNY, and actually get pretty decent Sprint service day to day. It prob helps that I have an Airave at home, and am on Wifi both at the office and home. Just renewed for 2 yrs with the Sam's Club $0.96 GS3 deals, renewed both lines on account. Also get 23% discount, and unlimited data...so it's gonna be very hard to leave Sprint any time soon...my entire company is on VZW, and our company gets 17% discount, still not worth giving up unlimited data for!
Never. The service is serviceable but the unlimited data for the price is unbeatable.

Does the AirRave cause you to get dupe SMS' or anything? Mine was acting all nutzo.
I don't plan on leaving. I have Spotty 4G around Indianapolis but the price blows away the only other carrier (Verizon) that I would consider. But I am around wireless the majority of the time and haven't been in a situation where I could not get by with 4G.
I just got my S3 last week from Radio shack for 99 dollars that came with 50 dollar Google Play Credit. That came in handy for stocking up on a few widgets I needed to customize it.
I would be gone if I didn't pay $41 a month for unlimited everything with insurance included. At&t, Verizon, and MetroPCS all have LTE in Sacramento where I live and T-Mobile has HSPA+ 42. Sprint doesn't even know when they are going to start to roll out LTE here. In the meantime my 3G is absolutely pathetic. It is very frustrating to say the least. I'm highly considering Straight Talk or T-Mobile with a unlocked Nexus 4 when my contract is up in June.

Honestly, after 2 years you probably won't feel so strongly about leaving anymore, assuming data is still unlimited.
Sprint now has 100% of clearwire....That makes them the Company with the Biggest Spectrum and SoftBank putting Billions into being the number one, He's that type of Guy, no second in the Game for him, so that means lower cost to be coming, unlimited to stay and All others to Envy us Sprint Users.....Good things come to those who WAIT....lol....
I'm in Hudson County, NJ and prior to Hurricane Sandy, the signal was sketchy at best. After the storm, I have yet to reach two bars of signal at my home. I called Sprint and they said the towers in my area were afffected by storm and they were aware of the situation and trying to get things back to normal. I have yet to see any improvements. Wimax was available here but LTE looks like mid 2013 at best. Since I renewed my contract to get the SIII, I'll be on the hook until 2014 but this will be my last run with Sprint if I dont see significant improvements on their network around here.

How do you only pay $41??? If that was all I had to pay I wouldnt complain either lol. But I live in Tallahassee, FL and I am lucky to get 300kb/s download speeds, so needless to say, I only use wifi. Also I would only have to pay $15 more to switch to Verizon so thats a no brainer to me.

Unlimited Data?? Hahaha when you only get 300kb/s down, unlimited data is useless. I would rather pay $15 more on Verizon and get LTE speeds on have 4gb of data that I will never exceed. I guess it would be a good deal if I lived in an area that had reasonable data speeds tho.

But unlimited data means nothing unless you can use it. If you are on wifi all the time then unlimited data is worthless to you too. With Verizons "limited" data plan you can get 4gb of data and trust me you will never use that much. But like I told the other guy, if you get reasonable data speeds where you live then Sprints plan IS unbeatable. I only get on average 300kb/s down lol
Atlanta, GA
Here in the Atlanta, GA area, I get pretty good service since they turned on all the LTE towers. One place I don't get good reception is in my house. I have considered trying to get a free airrave to solve that. I will be sticking with Sprint, unless things suddenly go to pot.

Honestly, since the network vision started my service became alit better. In every way. I had dead spot in my area in one block I would perfect signal the next completely dead, and now it have a 50% increased in sign in all my dead spot. An network vision has been fully deployed. Before making rush decision I would say wait and see what sprint offers with their network upgrades specially now that they 100% clear. And will have 800mghz spectrum too. I say it going to go to number two if they actually able to keep their word with network vision

Forced to leave sprint
I got forced to leave sprint. I had 4 lines on a shared plan, and they booted my number because of excessive roaming. Now I'm stuck with a pretty new GS3 with no use for it. I ported my number to a dumbphone on straightalk toi save the number. Therefore if anyone wants I have a GS3 (16gig) with a cracked screen that I found after I got my new one through insurance, a GS3 (16gig) that Id be willing to trade both for a decent android GSM phone.
PM me if anyone wants it
Wow... I don't know what to say. It would appear that T-Mobile is not carrying the M8 at this time unless HTC screwed up on their site:

T-Mobile said it in a press release. *sigh*
Considering that Sprint is getting it (and already has it on their site for order), I'm beyond pissed at T-Mobile for this and if they didn't have excellent coverage in Denver, I'd pay off my EIP and leave over it.
I guess the good news is that by the time T-Mobile customers can buy it, we'll know what issues it has and hopefully have S-OFF. I guess there is a silver lining by not being a launch day customer but still, I've been JUMP eligible since January 27th so I'm getting anxious...

Yeah, this is really disappointing. I was a little hesitant on the M8 based on my frustration with the camera on the M7. But with the recent photos and hype around the announcement, I was all set to go pick one up today. At this point though, I'll probably wait until the announcement of the OnePlus One on 4/23 to see exactly what that phone has to offer before I make a decision.
yeah its up now on best buy but says coming soon. No T mobile though. Just Sprint, Verizon and AT&T
The links for Best Buy are up... But it's only AT&T, Sprint and Verizon Wireless... I can't see any unlocked version for a T-Mobile customer.
http://www.bestbuy.com/site/promo/htc-one-m8-119534
Best Buy doesn't sell T-Mobile phones so the gold is forever going to be off limits to T-Mobile customers unless they buy an at&t and unlock it.
I'm getting more and more bent about this the more I think about it. I can't believe that T-Mobile chose to do Samsung's bidding considering how long HTC and T-Mobile have been partners... G1, the MyTouch series... I mean really T-Mo?
What's the OnePlus? I've not heard anything about that.

The OnePlus One is a device being built by a bunch of former Oppo engineers. There haven't been any images leaked but the specs sound pretty good (5.5 inch 1080p display, Snapdragon 801 processor, 3100mah battery, 13mp camera, etc). It will be running Cyanogenmod stock and is supposed to come in under $500.
I'm due for an upgrade through Jump as well, but T-Mobile's delay on getting the One will certainly give me more time to consider other options. Probably not good for HTC.

Looks good but hopefully it has LTE and T-Mobile bands. I just noticed that Oppo's new Find 7 finally has LTE so Oppo devices are now back on the table for consideration.
My big thing is warranty... If something breaks on a phone I buy from T-Mobile, I call them, they send me a replacement and I send them the broken device, they handle the warranty claim. If I physically break my device, Asurion takes care of it. I don't know I want to leave that comfortable system.

I certainly understand that. The T-Mo warranty program is hard to beat - I've had to use it a couple of times myself. It's another reason I wouldn't consider another provider. Just wish T-Mo was getting the M8 today like the other major players here in the US.
Update from T-Mobile is that it will release on April 11th. I'd prefer to have this phone subsidized, but this is how T-Mob is doing business these days, at $0 down.

That delay will allow us to see if there are any problems with the M8. I heard the pictures are better than the M7 and that after a week of testing, the M8 apparently doesn't overheat (which caused the tint problem in cameras) due the 801 cpu. Until I can try it at t-mobile, I'm gonna keep reading up on stories on it. Don't know about theOne Plus though, I should look into it.
The VZW variant works with T-Mobile. There is a YouTube in the Verizon M8 thread that shows a guy pop out his VZW sim and exchange it for a T-Mobile version. Works. LTE and all.
