New version... Opera Mini v4.2.13337 - 20081205

The following registry settings control the font sizes for apps running in JBed:
[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\Apps\Esmertec Java\Device Info\Java Font]
"Size Large"="26"
"Size Medium"="20"
"Size Small"="16"
Still the version i like, fast, clean and small
Have a nice weekend
i'm still annoyed, that firefox isn't available for pda's...
but thx for up
I found the standard 4.2 from mini.opera.com to work o.k. on the Touch HD. What's so special about this one?

Doesn't the HD already come with the Opera browser?

yes
But i like the Opera Mini more... (faster, smarter, feeds support with remote sync etc) this version is with bigger Font Size so it's running ok on a 800x400 screen.
So the Opera browser that comes preinstalled on the HD isn't Opera Mini? It's not Opera Mobile, right? I thought the HD utilizes a full HTML browser...

the opera 9.5 that comes with the hd is opera mobile, a standalone executable program, which is a full html browser. opera mini is a java applet that runs within a java environment, and used to have limitations. maybe newer versions of opera mini have more functionality??

Sorry i can't... rules...
Cool, works well thanks.
Very fast at loading pages, with nice sliding transitions. The rendering's less accurate compared to 'big' Opera though.
Pros / Cons
I use both the browsers, in my view Opera Mini is far superior though, but with faults. Opera Mobile which comes on the HD is good when it works and you have a fast connection (WiFI or strong HSdPA). I believe Opera Mini uses pre rendered pages from Opera so is very fast, yes the transitions are nice. It has speed-links like Opera on your PC and can handle pretty much all pages I've ever tried to load. Opera mobile sometimes messes up pages with forms, for example, using tfl.gov.uk is so fast on opera mini, nearly impossible on opera mobile. File downloads are fine in Opera Mini as it can access the file directories on the HD, the download manager is maybe not as good as on Opera Mobile though, stop-resume etc..
Opera mini doesn't have tabs though.. one page only, a couple of times it can hang, you need to mess around with it so it doesn't ask each time if it is allowed to access the data connection, leave it running in the background and it can struggle to find connection again without restarting Opera Mini. Also you have to load it through JAVA (from a list of other Java programs you might have on your HD, GMAIL etc..) unless anyone knows how to give it it's own direct shortcut?? Also it's not integrated with TF3D like opera mobile.
I use 4.2 direct from Opera, fine but yes the menus are small, but still quite easy to press. Sounds like there is a WVGA version now. Perhaps in the next version (4.3?) this will be the ultimate browser.
I'll carry on with both for now

In fact the WVGA support comes from jbed and not opera mini... i mean this is what i thought.
Ciao
Fred
got version 4.2.13216 here
and it works a treat.
Error message
When launching Opera Mini from Java, I get Error indication on the top bar
This happens when the CAB is installed in either SD card or Storage

I got this one before i think... but 'im quite sure the WVGA support does not come from opera mini but from the version of jbed you got.. you shoudl have the 20081205.5.1 version or soemthing like that. There was a post here for that version, supporting VGA and WVGA in fact.

go to add remove programmes and remove the previous version of OPERA-MINI then install the cab attached on page one of this thread.
it should work nicely then.
re versions :the text size is now spot on. accept no immitations, this is the real internet in your pocket and no mistake. lovely and fast too, loads the times homepage in about 8 seconds compared to opere mobile's 30 seconds.
well handy. it has to be said.
Hi guys,
does anyone have the signed Opera Mini 5 Jar, when I go to m.opera.com/next on IE on my Touch HD, they don't show the option to download the signed version anymore. I'd really appreciate it, if someone could post the version here.
Thanks.

Opera Mini 5 beta 2 was just released...
EDIT: Managed to get a signed version of Beta 2, attached it to this post!
How I got it? When downloading Opera Mini Beta 2 from the official page, take a close look at the URL: It says "cert=none" - just changed it to "cert=all" and guess what? It works!
Do you have cab file?

Not sure, if a cab file makes much sense with a java-application...
Do you have problems installing the file I uploaded? Do you have a Java Runtime Environment installed on your device?
If you haven't, I recommend Esmertec (attached the file to this post). Just install Esmertec, open it, tap Menu, tap Install, tap Local files. It should find mini.jad automatically!

You have to load the file I posted (mini.jad) inside the Java-client you have on your device!
It worked for me!
But since I don't know what Java you have on your phone, I can't tell you how to install the file!
Put these in your pipe and smoke em.. 2009 QVGA and VGA Java 20090217_51R2 with Opera Mini. All three versions 4.2, 5 Beta, and 5 Beta2
And I made them so they require little user input. Just click Opera Mini and boom installs and loads right to the accept page. Make sure to uninstall old version first to keep the remove programs clutter down and if you have someone elses Java versions etc.. remove those as well to avoid dead shortcuts.
2009 QVGA Java with Opera Mini 4.2
2009 QVGA Java with Opera Mini 5 Beta
2009 QVGA Java with Opera Mini 5 Beta2
2009 VGA Java with Opera Mini 4.2
2009 VGA Java with Opera Mini 5 Beta
2009 VGA Java with Opera Mini 5 Beta2
Enjoy,

Can you please advise which is the difference between Opera and Opera mini ?
Speed
for some reason, Opera 10 takes an age to display any kind of page (even with the speed booster turned on)
whereas opera mini 5 runs like a dream and displays full web pages superfast.
i've got both on my blackstone but i never really use opera 10. it's opera mini 5 beta 2 all the way.
talking of which any one know when the full version is coming out ?

Are you sure this is a problem of speed? Can you try to open a local HTML page: copy a few HTML files to your device and open them in Opera to see the difference.
If you're using Speedbooster as well, it should work smooth and fast: just add the opera exe at an aprox. 80% priority (not maximum!).
Moving to mobile office soon, so I am more interested in Hermes surfing. Also go cheap unlimited data plan (SGD10 pm).
Have tried PIE, Opera Mobile, Opera Mini, SkyFire
Impressions (typical usage - look up location on www.streetdirectory.com.sg):
PIE - cannot display picture properly
Opera - runs out of memory!
SkyFire - Nice & snappy - but drains battery (even when suspended).
Opera Mini - so far the most workable.
2 major problems are:
1. Memory limitations - either errors or cannot show pictures.
2. power drain - Noticed that Opera and (especially) SkyFire drains the battery like crazy.
- Have to remember to EXIT browser before suspend!
Any tips for a low power, low memory footprint browser for Hermes?
Looks like all future developments are targetted at the new devices with plenty memory & CPU power!
OT, next thing for my mobile office - VOIP.
What is a good VOIP provider & software to use on my Dopod?
Skype suffers from same power drain issue.
I tried using built-in VOIP (on Schap 4.30) it sort of works but the other party could not hear me!
Lot's of things to learn here!
best experience so far
my best experience so far, has to be with skyfire, but i have a light rom almost neaked so when i used skyfire i still have 16 or 17 megas free of memory the battery problem well is a shame but i have to test it i tell u later how it goes, sorry for my crapy english
Lovin the latest opera mobile 10 beta2
I think Opera Mobile is too slow, Opera Mini (5 Beta) is great for me, loads very fast and no memory problems. Only disadvantage is that it's a Java Midlet, but I think the superior speed is worth it.
NetFront 4.0 Concept Version
http://www.access-company.com/products/mobile_solutions/netfrontmobile/browser/concept.html
However I only used v3.5 for a looong time, not this new 4.0.
Opera Mini 5 Beta 2 is fast and easy. It has cut and paste, the download center is awesome and Opera Link makes setting up and staying up to date with your bookmarks easy! I hear the same about Opera 10 Beta 2, but that browser takes more memory.

You have a mini5beta2 cab?
With a search, you would've found the Opera Mini 5 Beta 2 signed CAB which I'm using now as well .
Here is a round-up and testing posts:
FULL ROUNDUP:Browsing the Web on Windows Mobile just like on iPhone, incl. IEM6 review
No disrespect but that review is outdated. Since it ws put out:
1. Opera has 2 new browsers in Mini 5 Beta2 and Opera 10 Beta 2.
2. Iris was bought out and discontinued.
3. Netfront has released version 4.
4. MS has Mobile IE 8 now.
-
That's 5 major changes to take into consideration.

UCEWEB6 is a browser application for window mobile
fast process loading , not too draining performance processor and memory
download from:
http://www.opera.com/mini/next/download/
This is a WM native version of Opera Mini 5. It's FAST!!! really really fast comparing to the java version.
I installed on Dash and found it runs fine. Not sure which version of beta it is. Still have some bugs, especially it doesn't seem to recognize the '#' key...
Yeah I tried it, it's very good.
There's also an Opera 10.5 beta with support for soft keys.
Hi guys i'd like to know if there's a way to make Opera Mini ( NOT the Java version ) but the Cab [ it's named Opera Mini 5 beta v.5.03521] your default browser ?
I've found many ways to do it but its only with the jbed thing and that version kinda sucks versus the cab...I've found this :
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\Microsoft\Shell\Rai\: DEFBROWSER
"0"=Opera Browser
"1"="\Windows\OperaL.exe\"
but it still doesn't work any ideas ?
Here's the cab for those who want to try it but believe me its way better than the java version
Opera Mini 5 for Windows problems
I have not found a way to make Opera Mini the default browser. But a few questions for you about issues with Opera Mini 5 Windows Version on the HTC Excalibur:
1. Can't use D-Pad for page up/down scrolling. That is a great feature on Opera Mini 4.2.
2. Can't set the date shown at the bottom of the Opera screen.
3. The short-cuts that use the # key don't work.
Is that your experience too? Wonder if its the same with other Windows phones? It still is a "beta" version.
1. You can use it in the 5.03521 version aka "Opera Mini for Winmo" @ operamini.com
I've got the 3VO.3.50.033010 ROM it may help you..
2. Forget about it just : Settings > Fullscreen : no date more place for pages
3. Shortcut does work : you've just got to "double fn" + number
Since I got my Exc. i've been using it instead of the jbed version its faster, got bigger font and bug free.
Btw my deepest apologies its not a beta version
Opera Mini 5 for WM is grate browser it's really speedy but lots of bug
Opera Mini 5 for Windows problems
1. D-Pad. I was referring to being able to use the right/left d-pad to scroll up and down one page at a time. I am using version 5.03521 dated March 2010 with RickWatt WM6.1.
3. Shortcut # key: If what you mean by "double fn" + number is to press the # key twice, it does not work on my Excalibur. I have tried other key combinations with no luck. The shortcuts using the * key do work, however.
Also, the Opera site lists the Windows Mobile version of Opera Mini as "beta," and it shows up in my Start screen as "Opera Mini 5 beta."
If you know how to edit your registry, then my free "SkweezeIt" app will allow you to select the new Opera Mini WM Beta when you click on a link in an RSS or email message, and it will place the URL in the devices clipboard, then you can just "paste" it into the opera mini's URL box (by holding down the center OK button).
Check it out here:

This is a known problem with Opera Mini 5 (still in beta) with other WM phones besides the Excalibur - check Opera Mini forums and you'll see. I have the same problem with my Excalibur running stock WM6 rom but others here on XDA run Opera Mini 5 just fine using modded WM roms. So until Opera provides a fix it looks like you'll have to flash your phone to get Opera Mini to work right.
