a few mic and speaker questions - MDA III, XDA III, PDA2k, 9090 General

so, i have had this blueangel for a while now and for the last (almost a year) i ave had low mic problems, with the handsfree it seems to be fine, but when i put the phone to my face people winge that i am to soft..it used to be fine before..also i replaced my blueangel speaker sometime last year, hoping that the audio quality might possibly be a tiny bit better, but i was wrong it is still crappy..so i am finding out about ordering a new mic (i have a feeling that is the problem, as the gsm issue would have affected the handsfree aswell??) should have one next week, but the audio quality issue is a big one, any ideas? the speaker cant produce certain frequencies and it sounds like something is dying!!..
back to the mic, could it be another problem that wont require replacement mic? i have made the hole bigger, but no dice..
any ideas peoples?

Which radio are you using? Also, have you tried playing with AGC settings. They seem to help to a certain extent.

i got agc on, but hasnt helped, installed various radios, none seem to help..at the moment i am using radio 1.13 as 1.15 had same issue...i figured replacing mic might do the trick?..i hope so..some say i could the actual radio that is fried..
thanks for replying!

You could try going back to stock and see if that fixes the issue. You will then know that it isn't hardware related and that it is rom related. Otherwise, you will have to assume that it is hardware.

Solution? low voice level issue

Hi,
has anyone found a fix or an app or something to the low voice level issue during phone calls? we already know that a BT headset is a "workaround" but i was really hoping for a solution for the devide itself...
thanks in advance.
Press and hold the answer call button to enable the speakerphone. Should get your volume up to more than you need.
I hear ya about the voice problem. TERRIBLE.. Read my latest thread about the so many faults I found on the PDA2K..
'Blue Angel'.. LOL... I Would call it Dark Angel.
Try to replace the device
You should try to replace (change) the MDA III. Newer models does'nt have this issue. After 7 weeks of trying (...and crying), i've decided to bring the MDA III back to the T-Mobile Shop and asked for a replacement. 2 days later, i've got a new MDA III, now without any issues.
No Solution???
Thanks for your replies so far.
What i can´t understand is, why can´t we do something about it, a fix or a setting or an app... since it´s not an hardware problem ( the voice level when recording a video for instance is quite acceptable ((...well AVI not MP4...). After all, this is a developers forum! is it impossible to fix that issue?
I Think this is a very important feature for the Phone usability of the blue angel! must the 1000´s of units already sold be returned and exchanged?
ps - thanks 1234 but the voice level i´m talking about is from my own voice (the mic) and not the loudspeaker! other people when i´m in a phone conversation always say that i seem to be very far away and they hear me very low...!
This problem seems to be caused by the placement of the mic in a tiny hole next to the reset hole. Everyone complains that you sound faint when you're talking. If you try talking 'directly' into the hole or even hold the phone in your left hand things seem to improve ( closer to your voice-box? ) . You can also see this problem when making a movie with the phone. It sounds very quiet when compared to the same test with an XDA II. The XDA II had a mic in a much better position, next to the direction pad.
I think, it's a hardware issue
As i know, it's a hardware issue with the mic.
The position of the mic is bad, that's true, but some Shops will replace the MDA III against never models with some changes.
A Sales rep in a T-Mobile Shop told me, that devices with the voice issue WILL BE REPAIRED (mic change or something like this).
So, it may be a good idea to replace the device against a never model.
It's strange,
for me there are problems with cable headset.
If it's a problem with the phone mic, why I had the same problem, but only sometimes, with the headset ?
I will try also another headset.

Audio level - intolerable
Hello All,
I'm new to this forum but am a very frustrated PDA2K owner.
I cannot tolerate the issue of people complaining that my voice is too low during phone calls. The device has cost me an arm and a leg.
I bought it thinking it was the best PDA/Phone on the planet. The issue is there is no IMate service center in Egypt. I had it sent to me from Dubai...
If a software solution exists, then I would be very greatful for it.
PS. koponet says that he/she replaced their device. Has the microphone location been changed? Or is it still in the same spot?
Position is still the same
The mic position is still the same after the replacement , but the voice level is much better.
Before the replacement, the voice level was bad using the MDA III WITH or WITHOUT the cable headset (thats included).
After the replacement, the voice level is still bad using the MDA III WITH the cable headset (thats included), but much better WITHOUT this headset.
CALLING all Developers
I Think this is beacoming THE brain test for all the developer community out there...
If someone could come up with a software solution for this issue i´ll bet there would be several 1000´s of users ( all of QTEK, XDA, I-mate owners worldwide) thanking and respecting the "ONE"...
thanks,
Vega.
I would be happy if somebody could for sure tell whether this is a hardware issue or not.
For me, it can't be a hardware issue. Recording with the same mic and phone calls with Skype work well. Why should the same mic not work for GSM voice ???
A
I've contacted the italian distributor of Qtek 9090 about this issue.
They told me that they will release a patch in the next few days !!!
However, IMHO, it's a software issue, not hardware one because:
- the same mic with non-GSM apps works well
- With the mic in the cable headset you will experience the same problem.

Manuel
fixed with new ROM
I've installed the new ROM with radio version 1.06.02
I've made a few calls and the mic problem seems over!!!!
However I'll made some other calls to see if it's really solved.
bye
Manuel
Manuel, can you send me the upgrade for radio?
thanks
[email protected]
You could always take the pointed end from a sharp x-acto knife and cafefully 'drill' out the mic hole making it bigger. Drastic? Yes. Does it help? Yup.
Please post the Radio ROM which fixes this issue!
Rom update from qtek seems to fix it
The rom update from this forum http://forum.xda-developers.com/viewtopic.php?t=14362
seemed to fix my mic level issues. It came with the 1.06 radio version.
Thanks...hope it helps you
sound issue - quiet microphone
I still have this issue, even after upgrading to the latest ROM version (iMate 1.40.176)
Everyone I speak to says I sound distant or quiet, and plugging the standard wired handsfree doesnt seem to help at all. I spend all my time shouting into the phone to be heard!
Has anyone found a solution? should I upgrade the Radio ROM as well?
I have an XDAiis.
If you're using imate 1.40.176, then you should have radio 1.12 which is only one release back from the latest, so upgrading radio to 1.13 won't make a difference. I have an O2 XDA2s with radio 1.13 & sound level is fine, but it was also fine when using radio 1.06 (as shipped with phone)
Sounds like you have a hardware problem

Broken Speaker?

Hey guys,
I have a problem with one of the speakers. It is sounding extremely distorted. If you are looking at the back of the phone, it is the speaker on the left. While playing music, I covered the left speaker and the other one sounds great, no problem. As soon as i move my finger it sounds horrible. Any ideas? Do I have to replace it?
Thanks for your help
I have the same problem.
Very bad sound, even at low volume.
Does someone have a solution or an address where to get a new speaker (module)?
I guess i have to replace the part as shown in the pictures. (attached). Possibly contains more then just speaker(s)
Thanks,
Robin

I was thinking the same thing, but I cannot find anywhere online where I can buy that piece. All I find is some housings, and screens and a few keyboards. Are there any sites that sell the parts we need?
I've recently noticed the same thing. I wasn't sure if the speaker had anything to do with the radio you're running (radio in reference to the GSM radio, not AM/FM radio). It seems to have started after I flashed a new ROM which is why I ask.

Well this started a few weeks after I flashed my phone. My radio is version 4.48.25.20. Are you having problems with the same radio? I spoke to a HTC Representative earlier and they told me that it there is no damage (water, physical) or "improper programming" (lol) on the phone, i could send it in and it should be covered under their warrenty. I would just have to pay shipping and handling.
I have the same problem. Mine happened after I was playing music too loud. Think I blew the speaker. If anyone figures out where to get a replacement part please let us know!
Sweet.. I just found it on Ebay. Do a search for "touch pro 2 speaker"

[Q] [Acro S] fron (incall) speaker

Hi!
I've searched everywhere, but far as I'm concerned this is a hardware issue, but since I have my phones bootloader unlocked the warranty is not an option. My problem is that the front speaker (incall) is making a strange buzzing sound. Not always, i usually hear it when someone says something with an "S" letter in it. I know it sounds silly but that's a fact. I tried lowering the volume with no luck
I found some post about it:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2103770
http://talk.sonymobile.com/thread/52170
No solution.
I tried many different roms (CWM,MIUI,PAC), nothing helped. When I tried CWM I always downloaded it from FXP site, but one glorious day I downloaded an old FXP rom from CWM main site. No buzzing sound or anything, on the other hand it's a bit low on volume but I can live with that.
http://download.cyanogenmod.org/get/jenkins/12613/cm-10.0.0-hikari.zip
Now the real question......
Can Anyone point me in the right direction on what to replace in FXP's new roms so it can sound like the old one, but have all the tweaks and fixes.
Thanks in advance to anyone who answers or at least tries
News!
I know I said it's a hardware related issue. Well I ordered a front spaker from germany
stellatech.com/sony-lt26w-xperia-acro-s-lautsprecher-h%C3%B6rer,a,de,812713.html
It's arrived and I replaced it. The strange noise is still there. Soo i am pretty sure that the phones software overdrive the speaker.
Any suggestions?

[Q] Android Stock 4.3 Microphone Issues during calls

Hello All,
First off, hardware: I9250, stock ROM build 4.3 Build JWR66Y, not rooted, but bootloader is unlocked (CWM might be on there, it's been a while).
I noticed a few weeks ago after upgrading to 4.3 that I can no longer make phone calls without resorting to Bluetooth or Speakerphone (speaker ok, people can't hear me on the other end. I tried calling another phone I have (old N1) and I have to literally yell into the little hole at the bottom to start hearing anything in the N1). I have seen this problem being discussed with other phones (mainly N4) but not much on the GN.
Tried using an app called SoundAbout to disable wired headset detection, no go.
Tried booting into SafeMode, no change. I thought maybe using Volume+ might be incompatible with the OS upgrade or something.
1) Is anyone else having this problems? Supposedly this was a problem on 4.2.2 which got fixed on 4.3 for N4 users....
2) Anything else I can try before trying to downgrade to see if it fixes the problem? Factory wipe is something that I want to avoid like the plague.
3) Is there a way to test the hardware? Before I try and buy a microphone assembly?
Thanks in advance!
Bump
I have the same issue. After a nasty drop and some rain, I had to replace the screen. Now it works wonderfully except the earpiece during calls emits a lot of static and I can barely hear the other end, and they can't hear me.
Strangely though, with a headset or while on speakerphone, both directions are perfectly clear. I'm betting someting in the motherboard (i.e. audip processing circuit) is fried, because I've already tried replacing the earpiece.
Anyways, hope you find your issue, and let us know. Otherwise you'll have to stick to speaker or grab a new phone.
Sprint GNEX
Yes, I can rule out physical damage from falls, as I am anal about keeping my phone pristine. I haven't dropped it, and its protected by a good case in case there was some unknown shock.
I find it hard to believe nobody has ever come across this problem, even if not on a GNex. I'm just biased against any product made from LG (huge history of poor build quality outside of asia), and I'm pretty adamant about having a Nexus phone, I'm going to have to wait until Nexus 6 and hope that it doesn't go to LG yet again since motorola is eneligible for Nexus award (go HTC! the N1 was awesome).

[q] Poor call clarity D855----earpiece crackles during call

Im using d855 , from the beginning the call clarity is very poor, calls are having distortion like broken voices
while talking with the phone ear piece. The other end ie the person receiving call is having no issues at all.
Headphone and loudspeaker clarity is better.
Is it a faulty ear piece or a some software problem.
Is there any one else facing the same problem.
Please help.
Maybe faulty, have you tried rebooting and seeing if that helps?
I have to say my G3 is much better than my previous note 3 or Htc one for call clarity

Great to hear that you getting good clarity on G3 than other devices.
Tried rebooting and resetting the device but no luck.
My intention is to make sure whether its a software bug or hard ware fault before handing over to the
service center.

Hi @mpt123
I have the same problem here:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/lg-g3/general/poor-call-quality-distortion-noise-t2808530
But, I can't consistently reproduce it - last evening it was consistently terrible, this morning it is consistently fine. I haven't rebooted in-between so I can't work out what is going on.
One thing is - I do frequently connect and disconnect from Bluetooth headset in my car - and I wonder whether this has any influence. Do you use a BT headset?
Also, do you find it is ALWAYS bad, or is it inconsistent like mine?

Hi, this problem is consistent for me all the time.
I'm using it with my headset, speaker mode and bluetooth , all of these worked well without any problem.
I have given this to LG service center and they confirmed it is due to the faulty earpiece.
They asked me to wait for 3 days to do the repairing . I took it back given to the showroom where i purchased
it, the manager promised me tomorrow they will get it replaced with a new one as my demand.
Also for your information in my case i did reset my mob, flashed it with the European firmware to make sure that the
problem is with hardware.
Hope this information will be useful for you at some time.

Yes I had the same problem with my earpiece. I went to CPW and got it exchanged, which was a bit of a hassle because I had to set the phone up again. Although I do have to say the LG Backup software is actually rather good. Backed up my homescreen layout and settings so not too bad.
However I now have a brand new phone and it has exactly the same issues with crackling and vibration. Almost like the speaker is too loud for itself but it really is not that loud or clear.
Do you think I should try to get another replacement?

I'm interested to know what network you are on? And does the crackling always happen, or is it only if you're in bad coverage area? Or some other cause/factor?
Tonight my phone behaves fine, but I'm worried there is some problem.

I am with Vodafone. I had the same thought just this afternoon and I think maybe it might be a signal problem. It seems to be worse when I am at home where I have full 4G coverage. I am going to turn off 4G tomorrow and do some testing just using 3G and see the difference.
Will keep you posted!

Hi I made a post on the other thread as I have the same problem. I'm also on Vodafone. I'm only in a 3g area not 4g but as I'm using a Three network handset I have no option to just switch to GSM.
I have however tried Skype through wifi and data and the earpiece is crystal clear so I agree this appears to be either software or network related.
Will keep you posted!

I called CPW today and they were great. Took it to my local outlet and they swapped it out for a new handset without any hassle at all. They have a 28 day exchange policy which they totally seem to honour.
Not had a lot of chance to test the replacement, but the calls I have made have been crystal clear with no noise, crackling, or distortion. Will update again after a few days.
To re-cap: I had crackling and distortion on the majority of calls but only when using the earpiece - sometime it was worse than other times. It was always fine when in speaker mode or using bluetooth. New handset doesn't seem to have this problem.

the weird thing is that when using skype its always crystal clear. its just GSM calls, so surely can't be hardware issue can it.

I had my phone replacement yesterday with a new one ,the earpiece is very clear though is not that that loud but iam very happy
with it bcz the earpiece on the previous one was so noisy with crackling sounds and i had to use my headphones all the time.
I have seen many reviews with excellent results on call clarity and all , so its shouldnt be a common problem with the phone.
Try to switch the network and compare the clarity , if the results are same then go for replacement.
I have exactly the same problem... All the way here in HK!
There may be a Faulty production batch. Unfortunately the retailers in HK only do 10 Days Swaps so will have to hit the LG Service Center... hopefully it is covered by the Warranty!

LG G3 Earpiece Noise Problem
Unfortunately before buying this handset I have not checked about the problems that already exists. I also got G3 with same earpiece digital noise/ buzzing noise problem which usually comes when it first try to connect after dialing the number and then it comes during the call also.
I got 1 phone replaced in Bangalore Sangeetha within 2 days of purchase and the 2nd phone also have the same problem. It seems some batch problem. This is my first LG phone and hopefully the last one.
I have given 2nd phone back to Sangeetha although they suggested me to go to LG center. I don't know where this phone will take me, preparing for a customer court :crying:
I've got this problem with my D850 in the UK on Three, I hear a crack or pop a few times during a call. Has anyone tried turning off noise suppression and voice enhancement in call settings to see if that makes any difference?
I turned off voice enhancement and call quality has improved so far.
