The difference so far has been beyond night and day.
This thing is still very cherry.
I am avoiding adding anything to it right now as I have previously posted that Tilt2 may be a dog.
Kind of thinking I was right.
I will be trying patiently, for a little bit, before I add many programs to it.
The performance within a few minutes of using has been astounding.
Also some interesting, unexpected surprises.
Any and all questions will be accepted.

I'm curious to hear any specifics on how the behavior of the new one is noticibly different than that of the first one you had...I'm particularly looking for connections/exclusions related to hardware and specific issues.
I'm assuming that your replacement came from the same path/source as the original one? What did you tell them to get them to give you a replacement unit? AT&T branded store, or reseller?
Thanks man, mostly just my hyperactive curiousity asking

Equipment failed several times variously along voice audio path.

This thing is still very cherry. Only a couple hours usage.
Have only added MyPhone and contacts from MyPhone Backup.
Opera 9.5 experience has been unusual to me in that it recognized my email profile without any input from me other than inserting sim card and opening Opera 9.5 and selecting mail from ATT Yahoo default web page.
All browsing within Yahoo mail has been very quick.
Not my prior experience, which was very slow to refresh/update.

I was just trying to figure out which of the issues you originally had could be attributed to hardware pretty much...but between those, the sound problem you just mentioned, and your considerably improved experience with the new one, it's clear you just had a bum unit all around. Thanks for the feedback though

Cherry is a fruit, quite delicious to taste, spoils quickly, if not gathered and consumed soon.
Meaning that no software other than default is installed.
Default test module or whatever you want to call it.
Out of the box unmodified other to install MyPhone so I could make some calls.
In the American English idiom, untouched. Virgin.
Working very well.
Windows Mobile ATT most recent stock ROM as far as I can tell.
If you have a question about operation or state of ROM, please ask.
As the cherry my offer won't last long.
Did you read the beginning of the post?

Here's something interesting that just happened to me today.
Brief story:
Last week I purchased a TyTn from a user here and when I got it, it had the screen alignment issue. Rather than fiddling with it, I just sold it as such.
So, I got a fairly good deal on a new 8525 from directly from AT&T. I just got it, powered it on and saw... WM6! Let me repeat, this was a direct purchase from AT&T. The version of WM6 on it is the same build found here, 17944.0.3.1. The radio on it is 1.48.00.00.
So, although the software on it is nothing new, I thought it would be something interesting to note that AT&T is shipping WM6 with their 8525s now... I guess.
I wonder when they're going to be posting the rom on the HTC website itself.
Very Interesting, call them and ask for support just to **** with them since I know ATT wont know what to do!
Now if they would just start shipping the kaisers we would be all set and has the two most powerfull phones on the market today!!
that is pretty interesting though since I think the AT-T rom out of the box had many bugs and issues. I know I spent a few hours getting the kinks out when I cooked up my custom AT-T rom. thanks for sharing though... as I say in my SA group

so have you flashed their bloat-ware ROM off of it yet?
haha
Well TB this is interesting, no? Is one thing to purchase a used Hermes on Ebay that has jj or faria's stamp on it but this is official....
And @austinsync regarding the official ROM, the biggest complaint with me and mine is the radio... that dawg just don't hunt here in So FLA. Taking everyone back to the 1.40. The basic ROM, bypassing the ext ROM, wasn't bad... vg3g did a bad ass job on cleaning it up, major kudos. Am finding the majority of my peoples' complaints due to the 1.48 radio.
Thanks TB for that update!

Yeah, I was pretty surprised. And I've only made a couple calls on it so far, but I have to say it's not bad. The call quality with 1.48 seems good.
@GldRush98, I'm definitely going to "upgrade" this thing today. But, I'm pretty impressed by the speed and stability of the ROM so far. I'll probably do a ROM dump before I flash something else on it. Just in case someone wants it... for whatever reason.
I would like to see if the same exact one as the rom that's on this forum so let me know when you dump it please.

LMFAO!! I would pay to hear the phone conversation.
I just got mine last week but it had WM5.... of course it doesn't now!!!!!
I'm getting a brand-new AT&T 8525 (probably tomorrow) to replace my current Cingular 8525 with loose stylus (long story but the refurb they sent was crap so I complained nicely...)
I'll be interested to see what OS comes on it now but I am thinking of selling it new-in-box to help pay for the Kaiser...
I bought an AT&T branded 8525 on 7-23-07. It came with WM5. And, the AT&T store where i bought had just received it that morning.

I suppose mine could have been some kind of anomaly, but a welcome one. It was still shipped in the newer AT&T box that listed the OS on the front as WM5 with the "Coming in 2007, Windows Mobile 6 Upgrade" bullet at the bottom.
But I suppose all this doesn't matter a whole lot for me. I've already loaded up my own custom ROM and didn't really take advantage of this good fortune.

Solution for you
It is just an exe wrapper around a cab file.
To bypass the exe you just have to extract file's contents with winrar
and then recreate the cab file.
to install you can simply click on the cab you've just created
..and you're done

You also could simply extract the .exe, then rename the files according to the setup.xml and then copy the files into the \windows folder.
The point is, that these files are officially been made for a ROM-version I don't have on my phone (I admit, it couldn't be found anywhere either) and there have to be a reason for this.
I would not like to have to hardreset my device now if anything messed up.
I think I'll wait for the next information from HTC to come. Maybe they'll come up with a hotfixed hotfix ( ) or a new ROM version
First, Linox, you are genius. Followed what you said and got the info that phone is updated.
Second. I have one question which is more rhetorical than realistic. I believe that me, as well as other TP2 owners gave a lot of money for it (expect those who got it in poker game or similar ). The question is how is it that a phone which costs like 3-4 other (samsung, sony, blablabla phones) gets hotfixes that don't work? Why are Hotfixes necessary? How hard it is to give 100 phones to real HTC users and wait for respond from them? They would definitely see that there are some errors which NEED to be fixed before launching the phone. HTC is not a new company. They exist for at least 8 years now. They should know how phones should be made.
Finally, I got my phone from Frankuft airport a week after official release. The price was around 900 Eur. I believe that you guys paid something similar. More or less. How is it that a phone that should be Iphone killer (and it definetly looks like one) has more problems than that stupid Iphone? Do HTC guys have money to buy other phones and look how some things are made? Why do I have to read so much about entering registry, changing it and modifying it in order to make my phone work normally? I mean, all of you guys who do it and play around with your phones to make ours work THANK YOU VERY MUCH. I APPRECIATE IT A LOT. Maybe HTC should consider paying you to test their phones and make updates.

Would you be so kind to share your selfmade .cab file with us? So not everybody needs to install a .cab-maker and mess with the files for himself
According to your "rhetorical" question:
I believe you cannot test everything and everywhere. Even with 100 testers some users will experience other "issues". I state, that the best solution for this is a flexible and fast support -and this is where HTC sucks.
As soon as some users come up with a problem, HTC should work on the solution and come up with a fix as fast as possible.
The SMS-problem is know for long now and 1 1/2 months later they come up with a hotfix which does not work -too little, too late.
Overall, I have to say, the TP2 is a very stable and fast phone, considering the fact that it's Windows Mobile. Just think about the Blackberry Storm my girlfriend owns: 4th firmware update and still buggy as hell. Or think about the Nokia N95: years of experience in building phones and they release such a sleazy and buggy piece of crap for an large amount of money.
The SMS bug of the TP2 is bad but you can still use the windows-messaging so it's half as bad as it could be.
Hehe, think about the bugs that will come up when the first 6.5-ROM is released
LOL!!!
I don't even want to imagine that. Comments like "I bricked my TP2" and similar. That will be interesting definitely, and yes, you are right. Maybe 100 users wont solve anything but how is it that other phones don't have such problems or as you mentioned problems are solved but MUCH faster.
And finally, I placed the .rar file on rapidshare. You can download it, place it on phone memory or storage card and run. In second or so you will get info that operation has completed successfully.
I hope I did it right as explained in previous threads.

You cannot test this by sending a message to your own number. The first replay to a number will always work. only when you send a 2nd, 3rd, etc. message, it will go wrong. When you are sending a message to yourself, you will always replay 1 time because you will recive the message immidiatly...
Ranney
HTC official support told me to wait a few days since it's still a work in progress, so probably they will release another version or a corrected one for this hotfix.
Kinda reminds me of the "Hotfixes" for the Touch HD, which initially broke more than they fixed....
Quality control anyone?

I paid for it that money. It was in Frankfurt Airport. Since I live in croatia, this phone will most probably cost even more. Just like it was with other HTC models.
Only in "developed" countries these phones have normal price tag since HTC sells there directly. Here, we don't have HTC office but a sub-licensee who will not even fix this phone if something happens while on international warranty.
So, yes I paid around 900Euro to get mine. If you need I think I still have a receipt somewhere, I'll be glad to upload it.

Mine was pre-ordered. I got a text from T-Mobile 2 days ago letting me know to expect my G2 to arrive within 7 days.
After actually reading that Oct 16 launch article in the link above, the only thing I can figure is that the G2 will be officially released to all customers. New or existing customers. The T-Mobile guy told me on the phone that it would be arriving at my house around the 6th. So, I dunno.. It would not surprise me any if it didn't come out till November 16th. Nothing about the phone companies ever comes as a surprise. But, I am still having fun customizing my TP2 and messing around with the xandroid on the sd card.

Not sure about the comment about not wanting to give up the ability to customize (like you can on the TP2). There is lots of customization available on Android, on an OS that is vastly smoother, more stable, and has tons of support from app developers.
One of the few things stopping me from going to Android, is the lack of a ATT-compatible handset with a hardware keyboard. And I might be willing to overlook the keyboard requirement.

People with iPhones have the same description of the screen keyboard: "not that bad". The screen keyboard is never described as "good". "Not that bad" isn't good enough for me. A hardware keyboard is simply faster, more accurate, and therefore a superior input method. It does result in a slightly thicker form factor, but that's a trade-off that is more than worthwhile, IMO. Especially coming from the best hardware keyboard on a phone (the TP2), its pretty tough for me to make a switch to a screen keyboard.

People who pre-ordered started receiving the G2 late last week. And the G2 board at T-Mobile Forums has been going nuts for several days...crises rising and falling -- lots of drama.
After I made the purchase, I started reading about a lot of bugs, so I have a few questions:
1. Do games run great on this device?
2. Are there home screen redraws (where you click home button to get out of an app and go to home screen, but it's blank for a couple seconds until the home screen slowly redraws itself)?
3. Is the external speaker loud?
4. Is there any lag/slowdown?
5. does it run on AT&T in the USA (hspa) just fine without screwing with any settings?
Also I noticed the menu button comes up in pretty much every app which takes away like 0.2" of the screen. Disappointing.

This is not a fault with the phone, g nexus takes up the same space with its soft buttons. The software needs to be changed, it's not a deal breaker IMO.
Have to assume OP has not yet received the phone.
1. Don't play games
2. Not that I have seen
3. Seems fine to me, better than my G Nexus
4. That is down to user perception, mine seems fine
5. Check the supported frequencies of the device and your carrier (sorry in the uk)
The majority of your concerns will be addressed by updates if they exit
Thanks
Barry
It's like anything. The 1st version of the new software is usually buggy. The first version of 4.0.1 on the gnex was not the best but now 4.0.4 is out it is a lot better. Games run really well though.
I also use nova launcher and the home screen is much faster.

My one was imported from Singapore, and came with pre-loaded APN settings that I could select for AT&T if I choose the reset to default option in the APN list. However, the APN that it came with was only the 'wap.cingular' APN that standard 3G devices use. It will work with any data plan for phones including the data plan for feature phones. If you want to get the fastest speeds, you will have to add a 'Phone' APN and make sure that your account is provisioned with an HSPA+ data plan.
I'm thinking about canceling my order. I'm reading about WAY too many bugs.
There's nothing wrong with the hardware it's excellent, software needs a couple updates that's about it, it's a fantastic device.

Install a custom ROM or wait a day or two for the OTA and the bugs will all be sorted. With Android (Especially HTC devices with their huge developer community) it doesn't make sense to base your purchase on software issues.

okay.have fun with your SG3 or whatever.bye
A major software update is coming very, very soon.
Few things:
1. I always keep my phones stock, so no roms for me.
2. I would never buy a phone that has touchwiz on it.
3. Has a software update already been announced? When will it be available?
What if update to fix the issues will come after 2-3 months. Too long! it should have been less buggy if HTC didn't rushed it.
I'll give it a shot. If I don't like it, I'll send it right back.

1. Chillax!
2. The update is coming! Soon! HTC aint stupid, they have just been to fast this time! BUT they made it... they were the first with a quadcore smartphone! Now they are working there asses of, to save face, because they know that the software wasnt interely ready! Sit back... relax... its coming!
Otherwise... their business will suffer big time... and thats bad... for them!

When it comes to hardware I believe in HTC for producing best from what they can. Planning to Buy the HTC One X next week.
I believe that Android IC is very RAW at this moment and not all the manufacturers would take the risk to get their hands dirty but HTC did.
Lets wait for some stable ROM's coming on XDA

If you want a bug free phone, don't get one that's been out for two weeks. Get one that's been out for a year or more.
Maybe a Sensation (XE/XL).
Just wondering if anyone here is familiar with 'training units' of the HTC 10. A seller says he used to work for HTC, who gave him brand new phones to train employees on. The phones are brand new and say 'Not For Sale' on the back, but they work just like a regular unit. The other catch is he says they do not support software updates, but he thinks you can update them manually. I figure that updates not supported would mean that they will not get OTA updates, but that you could flash them yourself. Anyone know for sure, I don't see why not?

I've had these before and have been an ambassador for htc too.
Granted the phones were a little older but htc don't change their ways [emoji6]
Also so long as the hardware hasn't been modified, for example some demo units (Samsung) they remove the antennas and other critical components for making calls and texts, not on all devices and I've never seen htc do this either, you can make calls, text, mobile data works etc?
Also check the bootloader and download mode screens.. See what info you have there.. Input the info you see there here.
We need more information.
I'm pretty sure it can be made to stock but we need to clarify some things first.

Thanks for the response, I appreciate it! Unfortunately i never picked one up. I kinda hesitated because I wasn't sure, then I decided to post here, but now the seller must have sold them all. He did say that they worked 100%, but had a couple markings to dintinguish them and don't support software updates. Anyway, thanks a lot!

No problem, they can be made to be normal though.. The seller doesn't know what they're talking about. either way, no point now. Also the markings could be a screen protector or a film the devices are usually just stock international devices. A lot of them are s-off out the box. Keep an eye if more become available.

What he said was it said 'not for sale' on the back, had a very small marking on the front to indicate training phone, and software updates were not supported. But I believe he meant via OTA..... I figured it could be flashed tho, and I can't remember the last time I waited for an OTA anyway, as opposed to just grabbing the firmware myself
Anyway, I already bought a different phone but there is also this ad if you wanna check it out. This one seems a bit different tho. Previous one was not a store unit.
