Dear all,
Have been searching the forums for a couple of days now, but to not much avail. I've got my TP2 configured just nicely with the 1% battery meter, (A)GPS tweaks etc but a few other things I just cannot figure out and hope you can all help me out.
Registry tweaking etc is fine, just so long as I can do what I need to. I'm using an unbranded European GSM TP2 bought just the other day.
1. On the "Quick List" menu; which I get into by holding down the red/end button, I can turn data sessions/flight mode etc on or off, or the vibrate function. How can I change what options are displayed in this menu?
2. How can I activate/achieve in-call recording (there's fragments of this on the board but no real definitive answer I can see).
3. While I use SPB Menu 3.0.1, when I go into the phone dialler, the "Contacts" soft key in the bottom left doesn't work. I think it's because I have TF3D disabled and SPB Menu instead, but can I remap this back to the default, original Microsoft contacts app which I prefer?
4. How can I keep WiFi switched on while the screen is off (seen a couple of apps I think to achieve this, a nice switchable app would be great).
5. How to (on SPB Menu 3.0.1) change the default contacts app away from the built-in SPB contact menu which is awful, and back to the default Microsoft one?
Finally, I share everyone's frustration about the lack of Bluetooth voice dialling. Having mailed HTC and gotten no decent reply back, I'm as annoyed as the next person... but I think the 6.5 ROM release from HTC if/when it appears will fix things up from "reading between the lines" of some of the replies from HTC I received.
Thanks all in advance,
Adam.

by default wifi is on when only the screen is off. if the device is in standby wifi also turns off. to change this set:
[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Comm\BCMSDDHD1\Parms]
"HTCKeepWifiOnWhenUnattended"=dword:00000001

Dear all,
mastermarv, thanks for the reply.
You said "modify "\Windows\Long_End.lnk". let it point to an application that shows something else."
-- Any ideas of an application that produces a menu similar to the TP2 Quick List menu, but with different, modifiable options?
Anyone any ideas on questions 3 and 5?
Thanks again everyone for a great community!
Adam.
Hey everyone,
Just in case anyone else searches and sees this, I've got an udpate:

Hello, everyone;
I've got a TP2 on WinMo 6.5 Pro, and would like to modify it a wee bit to do the following.
First, the signal lost, call dropped window that pops up. I'm an over the road truck driver, and this happens alot in the mountains. Is there any way to disable this silly message?
Second, the backlight always comes on whenever it looses/regains a signal. This is an extreme annoyance, bordering on dangerous, situation when driving at night and I am constantly distracted by the sudden glow from the screen. Can this be disabled?
Finally, emails. Is there a setting that will force the entire email to download, doing away with the tap-here-to-download-entire-message thing?
Much appreciated, everyone, and best wishes for a great day!
Fred
Not sure on 1 or 2, sorry. For 3:
-Launch the inbox (Microsoft version, not Sense). Scroll to Email tab and tap Inbox
-Menu --> Tools --> Options
-Tap on the account
-Tap on "Download Size Settings"
-Message download limit dropdown --> Entire Message
-Download Attachments dropdown --> All attachments
Edit: Not really a solution for the second issue, but if you turn on the "Automatically adjust backlight" feature it won't be quite so bright when it does turn on. Start --> Settings --> System --> Power. Check "Automatically adjust backlight".
Perfect! Issue 3 solved. Thanks, bud.
Anyone for the other two?
entire message
From the inbox of an email account - tap the soft button to the right of the keyboard one (menu?). tap on tools then options - tap on the account you wish to modify. You should see an option for Download Size Settings - select "entire message from the bottom drop down menu then click done.
If you are going through an Exchange Server then run the Activesync app on the phone. Click menu then options. Hightlight "email" then tap on settings. Change the download size limit to "entire message" and ok your way out.
I can't help with the other issues as I am new to this phone too.
Ok. Someone beat me to it.
No worries, mate, thanks for chiming in. You did illuminate another method, and thankfully you two have solved one annoying issue. The others will require entering the registery, I'm sure.
Thanks!

On the Email Issue, go to the inbox, tap and hold to bring up the context menu, select Tools / Options, and you can modify the download settings.
settings\sounds and notifications\ notifications tab... in there you can change what different 'events' do.
If there is a setting in your phone for what you want it will be in there.. if not It's likely a registry change you need to do. That I cant help you with as I wouldn't know what you need to change specifically.
This is for random tricks that aren't widely known.
I'll start off...
Missing that search button key on the bottom from the SGSII? Have no fear, just press and hold the menu key, which acts like the search key
Annoyed of the home button lag? turn off double tap to activate S voice within that program and your home key will be much more responsive
Can anyone think of anything else?
Edit: Ironlood has put together a list of tips and tricks. Thanks!
1.Hold menu button for search menu - eyecon82
2.To get rid of home button lag open up S-Voice and navigate to settings and untick the launch with double tap home button -eyecon82

For example: set the brightness to auto in the system settings, then open the stock browser > brightness and colors, and set it to high. Now the system will have auto brightness, but it will always go to high/bright when you are in the browser! -Zoidpilot
12.If you go to Phone > Logs > call logs, you can long-press a number (like that telemarketer you always reject) and select "add to reject list" to have the phone automatically reject the call every time. You can also unblock the number in case you change your mind.-Zoidpilot

41.pull down the notification touch the time and it will open the world clock (might be variant specific) -Deputy13
42.I have only tested this with Windows Media Player, but I assume any DLNA equipped TV/media device would work. This is great if you want to quickly show a slideshow of photos or play some media file on your tv/computer.1) Go Settings/More Settings/Nearby Devices 2) Turn on file sharing and change any options you'd like. Since I'm on my own my Wifi network, I just disabled access control, otherwise you have to approve every device.3) Start Windows Media Player. Make sure under Stream "Allow Remote Control" is checked. You should see your phone show up under "Other Libraries" in WMP. Mine shows up as [Mobile]SCH-135.4) Go into Gallery and select a picture. If connected properly, in the upper right hand corner there will be a new little icon with a monitor and some arrows. Touch this and it will allow you to select a playback device. 5) Now the picture should show up in a maximized screen in WMP. Sometimes it takes a good 10-20 seconds. Videos take much longer, but they work and what I got was the first frame, followed by a good 20 seconds of a "Processing" notification on the Galaxy S3. When I browsed from WMP to my phone videos, it buffered for a very long time, so this "processing" notification is the buffering taking place. I don't know why DLNA needs such a long time to buffer over a home Wifi network.6) Whenever you change folders you have to click the DLNA icon again and re-select your playback device. Not sure why this is, seems like a bug...Unfortunately I did a little research and there is no way to physically copy files to your computer through DLNA, you'll have to use other methods.Make sure you turn this stuff off when you connect to public Wifi .-sluzbenik
44.When viewing videos using the stock video player, you can lock the touchscreen by pressing the power button so that the video does not get interrupted by inadvertent touches. This is especially useful if you are using your phone to entertain your baby or toddler. Also works with mx player though haven't tried it with other players -limeaid
45.Do not know if it has been mentioned already, but you can also bring the phone up to your ear and it will call that contact.-ricky babalu
46. if you are in the apps drawer, and you pinch the screen, you will see all pages of your apps and can quickly choose the one you want.-moonfire711
47.Haven't noticed this being addressed but regarding S-Beam it appears that both phones are required to utilize the same app that is involved with the file being transferred. For example, I use "quickpic" as the default image viewer and when I used s-beam to test a pic transfer, the phones connected however my buddy's phone went to the play store and more specifically went to the "quickpic" downlad page. Obviously my buddy's phone required him to dl the app in order to finish the transfer. I then opened the same file via "gallery" and reinitiated the transfer. This time the phones connected and transferred the file without a hitch. -augustorm
48. lock screen shortcuts can be edited on the swipe lock screen go to settings/security/lock screen options/shortcuts click the word shortcuts and not the toggle it will bring up the 4 shortcuts and your allowed to change which app is accessed or what order there displayed in -ironlood

The Service menu is activated through a sort of code that you enter into the dial pad of the phone. To get started:
Start your Phone app
Get to the Keypad screen
Type in: *#0* #
You now should have in front of you a screen with a 5 X 3 grid of options.

Nope. It's not on the GSIII. This is something I miss from the GSII.

Once the ICS update rolled out, it was gone. It's not a GS2 vs GS3 issue. It's an ICS issue.

You can also swipe away individual apps after holding down the home button. An HTC rep at an AT&T store told me that one today. She was trying to show off the One X. You need to have a good portion of the screen covered with your hand (instructions say use your palm) and just swipe it across in an even motion.
Also make sure the function is turned on in the motion settings!
Same thing here with the screenshot, I feel dumb as hell as I still can't get it to work.
Also , is anyone using the stock ICS keyboard? I hate the Samsung keyboard.

Three features I wasn't expecting are especially nice improvements over my previous phone:
(1) A setting that blocks all calls or messages from people not on my contact list.
(2) A setting that keeps the phone on as long as it sees me looking at it.
(3) The ability to take a photo via a voice command.

Its an awsome phone and its great you want to share your discovery with us. However it would be even better if you can add some value to your thread you have created by elaborating on how thiese features are great , how to turn them on and off , and or make a list to help newcomers find little usefull features like thies on there new awsome phone. Think of these members who would search for a post like this one and how it could help them.
Thanks in anycase.

1) I could be totally wrong, as it's been about a month since I last held the original Note, but I could have sworn I distinctly remember this feature in the original Note. I remember remarking to myself how convenient it was, but I never used it because I had a third party app that did the same thing.
2) Smart Stay was a feature I was really looking forward to from the S III. I can't tell you how many times I've been reading a long article online or something else, and the screen dimmed or turned off because it had no clue I was still actively using the phone. Smart Stay has effectively eliminated this, and it has worked really well for me.
3) This feature I have only heard about ONCE, and that was while watching a YouTube video someone had done on the Note II. I was very impressed and it's another feature I have longed for. I've tried it out and it works flawlessly.
I'd also go on to add there are many more features I find convenient. Quick Glance is a convenient little gem that I've heard no one mention in the dozens of reviews I've seen about the Note II. I found it by just going through every part of my phones' settings. When your screen is off, quick glance will cut on your screen for a couple of seconds, and display a large clock with the date, email count, text count, and missed calls count. This is activated by hovering your hand, briefly, over the phones light sensor. It comes in extremely hand during the night when I want to quickly roll over, check the time, and roll back over to sleep. No more trying to find the phone ... finding the button to turn the screen on ... then turning the screen off again. Everything is hands-free. A beautiful little aurora borealis-type animation happens in the background while quick glance is active. The majority of the screen stays black so it's not bothersome.
Another favorite feature of mine is Direct Call. It essentially calls whatever contact whose information is currently being displayed on your screen from your contacts list. So instead of having to pull up, John Doe in your contact ... then select what number of his you want to dial (assuming he has multiple numbers) ... then pushing the "call" button to execute the call... all you have to do is have John Doe's contact info pulled up and put the phone to your face as if you were about to talk on a call, and Direct Call will automatically dial the first number assigned to that contact or whatever the default number is. I've found this feature GREATLY appreciated.
I'm so happy with my new toy. So many cool features that are actually beneficial.

Ok, sure. All three features can be found just by browsing through the phone's settings (or the User Manual). Blocking Mode is listed under the device's top-level Settings; the screen-stay face-detection is under the device's Settings|Display; and the camera's viewfinder screen explains the voice-command feature when that feature is enabled (which I think it was by default; it can be toggled in the camera's top-level Settings).

Hmm I wasn't aware Blocking mode could be used like this.
I'm guessing I would set it to "Disable Incoming Calls" "Always" "Allowed contacts > All contacts".
Does that sound right?

Hmm I wasn't aware Blocking mode could be used like this.

Exactly.
Unrecognized callers can still leave you voice mails. If you use Google Voice for voice mail, then you can spam-filter those; and even for messages that don't get filtered, you only have to glance at the transcriptions for a second, instead of taking time to listen to the messages, if you want to see if any are legit.

When your screen is off, quick glance will cut on your screen for a couple of seconds, and display a large clock with the date, email count, text count, and missed calls count. This is activated by hovering your hand, briefly, over the phone[']s light sensor.

I like that feature too, except that there's a five-second delay before the screen responds to the gesture, which makes it quicker just to press the power button.
Do you get that delay as well?

Yeah, this is a great idea for a feature. But, I have some reservations. First - battery life, you can tell the prox sensor is on, and lights up red when the screen is off. Second - speed, I find it faster when the device is flat to just press the home key, all the same info is on the lock screen, and it wakes and goes back to sleep faster if anything.

Direct Dial
Actually, you can specify which number is the default dialed by this feature:
Touch and hold the phone number you want set to default. After a second or so delay, a menu appears, and "set default" is the last item in that menu.

1) Another favorite feature of mine is Direct Call.

This might seem a little trivial to some, but this is bugging me like crazy lol, when i initially updated to Lollipop i got my Google User picture showing up in the top right hand corner of the notification drop down bar, well after a reset (to cure a rogue app eating battery) this no longer shows up, just the generic green circle with the outline of a head, despite the phone been setup exactly how it was before it just wont set it again - I dont suppose any of you guys know if i need to change something somewhere or anything like that.
Sorry if its a little too trivial just these type of things bug me hehe.

Go to settings -> general -> Users -> tap on your user -> tap on the image circle -> choose picture from gallery or take a photo.
Done!
Well i didnt think to actually press on that to change it, when it updated to Lollipop from KitKat it did it without any user input at all, but thanks for the help its much appreciated.
To bring that back open up G+ go into settings > Account settings > contacts - Check "keep contacts up to date" if its already checked, uncheck and check again.
