Removing Camera from Home Screen on the HTC Touch Pro 2 - Upgrading, Modifying and Unlocking

Hi Folks,
I have been using the unlocked version of the T-Mobile HTC Touch Pro 2 for well over a month now. The 'Camera' option on the left hand side of the Home Screen is pretty frustrating as a slight touch in there opens up the camera. Does anyone out there know how to remove the 'Camera' option and replace it to something more useful like 'Messaging'?
Secondly, I have been having issues with the timezone settings. The timezone at times automatically changes from the timezone that I have set (IST) to GMT. I have figured out a temporary workaround for this, i.e. Unchecking the 'Automatic change time zone and clock' under Settings>Phone>Time Zones. However, whenever I restart my device this option is automatically checked and more often than not the timezone is changed to GMT. This is really frustrating as all my call logs and calendar entries pick up the wrong time.
Any solutions to the above problems?
Thanks,
Devesh

Why always today screen after suspend mode?

Hi folks,
a quick question: since I am using WM6 my tytn always displays the today screen after comming from the suspend mode or blanc screen. This was definitly not the behaviour it did with WM5. An example:
When I'm listening to music with the built in Windows Media Player I like to turn off the screen (using the built in blanc screen function) to save battery. When I switch on the device again to change music or something the device always displays the today sceeen instead of the media player application and I have to switch back to the media player window manually. That drives me crazy as it is not the way it behaved using WM5.
Is there any possibility to change this behaviour in the way, that WM6 shows the last used application instead of the today screen when resuming from suspend mode or blanc screen?
Thank you!
Check you Today settings.
Go to Start>Settings>Today>Items tab and investigate the "Today Timeout" setting.

I checked this already. The described problem is not related to the Today timeout setting. It appears every time, after a few seconds blanc screen anyway. Try it, you'll see.
i have also experianced this, is really annoying, anyone have any ideas how to resolve it...?

Hi!
The best prgm I used for this reason is PPcsoft psShutXP u can have it on tray and u gona have 3 alt. Light Off Shut Down and Soft Reset strike on Light Off it works fine
I like this "feature". Problem I have is if I leave outlook open, I don't get a LED notification of new mail. At some point I had a ROM installed that always went back to the today screen and seem to resolve my issue. Is this something that can be changed in the registry?
Cal
nobody knows anything about that? Can't believe that there are not more people out there, who suffer from this issue

Hi!
I think if u try the program I mentioned at #5 u gona like it. Here is the link
http://ppcsoft.narod.ru/english/
same problem here...
BatteryStatus
I think this might be related to BateryStatus Today Plugin.
There is a check box under "Tools" - "Show Today Screen on WakeUp". If you uncheck this it stops behaving in this way.

Thanks for sharing the link but I think, this will not solve the problem for me: as far as I can see you have to go to the today screen anyway to reach the buttons this tool provides. So I haven't got anything....
Great stuff! Batterystatus really solved the problem...just set the tool to not show today screen and it works. Thanks for the hint!
(though I really don't understand that MS doesn't support this feature?!)
Hi, its not that MS doesn't support it, its that its enabled on some roms, and others not, mine always returns to whatever app it was on, after suspend, If you wanted to help figure out the cause, I suggest you install sktracker, and do a before and after the battery status install, and see what key that option in battery status is changing, I don't much care for battery status myself.
Start > Settings > Today > Items Tab
UNCHECK the Today Timeout
Today Timeout means that if the device is left unchecked for say, the Default "4 Hours" than after 4 hours, no matter what program window was running, it defaults back to the today screen when the device is reawakened
pssibly a bug in your OS or some program you are running makes it so every time you turn it back on
but uncheck that and maybe youll have some luck??
i had a similar problem with my iPaq hx4700 where if i was at the today screen, it would keep flickering, refreshing it every 1 second
i disabled the today timeout, and viola, its worked fine since
I have this issue too.

Unrelated. I have BS installed and that option is NOT checked, yet it still does it.
This is very annoying, I like mine to sleep after 2 mins (to save power and lock the keyboard). then back to the today screen and have to switch to what I was doing..
Related to the Lock setting?
I have the same problem, and I think it is related to the lock settings. When I enable a simple PIN, my phone always returns to the Today screen after leaving suspend, regardless of the settings in the Today aplet.
If I disable the simple pin in the Lock settings applet, the pone returns to the last used application (unless the today timeout has been exceeded, as one would expect).
Hopefully that will help someone discover a fix. This problem did not occur in WM 5.

Hey, you are absolutely right. The problem won't be fixed by Batterystatus. I just mad a hardreset and didn't set a password, so I thought batterystatus fixed it.
It is a bug with the built in password function. So, is there anybody out there, who is able to fix that?
As said before, the Today showing after power-on the device is "another" problem caused by the WM6 Password Lock System. It's necessary to disable the password that locks the device to fix it.
And it's not the only problem. Be warned, don't try this at home!!!; if you got a password active and then you change the Owner Name without changing the password, you will find after the next reboot that your machine is unreachable because the password isn't recognized at all.
Incredible but true!

Samsung i780 - Returning to home screen on wake up

Previuosly on my Tytn II, the screen is always returning to home screen after the wakeup. I know it's a bug in the pin, but it suits me.
I'm now using i780 and installed the realVGA and HTC home (6 tabs version). It works well apart from the brightness setting.
I need help if somehow I can set the phone to go to home screen each time I wake it up.

Just wanted to ask -
Don't you experience random profile and tab changes with the 6-tab HTC home?
What version of HTC home do you use?
I had to disable the profiles tab so as to not get involuntary profile changes - having my phone start ringing when it should be silent or missing calls since it went into silent profile just like that...
Just wondering, which latest version works on our i780? I've tried 2.1.xxxxx but it doesen't show up at the home screen (using the custom ROM with RealVGA integrated posted last week)

Restore last tab after standby

Perhaps it has been posted somewhere in this forum, i searched but did not find:
After getting my HTC TP2 out of standby, TF3d shows the default first tab (clock), it even seems like it resets itself when turning on (it shows the last used tab, then switches to black, takes a few milliseconds, and then shows the first tab). Is there a way to keep the last used tab, the one before putting the device in standby? In other words, I want to get rid of the TF3d reset...
Thanks!
Kroellie
My Vote here as well.
It seems to respect what screen I had open before standby if it is not an HTC app, sometimes. I do want it to show last used screen all the time! I use mine for directions in the car, and when driving I can not afford to fumble trying to get back to my, previously open, appointment to read the next stage....
My TP2 remembers the last used tab. If, FI, my TP2 goes into standby while I'm on the people tab, it comes out of standby with the people tab. This also account for the calendar, email, etc tabs,
Is your screen returning back to the home page during a call too? If so, I had both of these problems when the security lock was enabled (Password Lock after X hours of unuse). If you disable it, it will stay on whatever program or tab you were last on.

I found this so annoying that is the main reason I moved away from manila into titanium.
If someone posts a fix I could finally move back to manila.

That did the trick for me, the security lock somehow resets TF3d to the home screen

resume to last screen

hi all! I've been wondering ever since receiving my TP2, how can I set it so that the device resumes from standby/lock mode to the last screen that was active? Right now, it seems to restores only to the today tab.
For e.g. if I am using Notes and switch the device to standby using the on/off button, turning it back on takes me to today tab...
this question has just been asked in another thread called "Restore last tab after standby".
I have checked this issue for you and it does not account for me. When I switch of my TP when in, FI, Coreplayer and switch it on again, it still displays Coreplayer, or whatever app that was open before going into standby.
hhmmm thanks. it seems to be related to the lock function...

disable message, screen illumination, download full email

Hello, everyone;
I've got a TP2 on WinMo 6.5 Pro, and would like to modify it a wee bit to do the following.
First, the signal lost, call dropped window that pops up. I'm an over the road truck driver, and this happens alot in the mountains. Is there any way to disable this silly message?
Second, the backlight always comes on whenever it looses/regains a signal. This is an extreme annoyance, bordering on dangerous, situation when driving at night and I am constantly distracted by the sudden glow from the screen. Can this be disabled?
Finally, emails. Is there a setting that will force the entire email to download, doing away with the tap-here-to-download-entire-message thing?
Much appreciated, everyone, and best wishes for a great day!
Fred
Not sure on 1 or 2, sorry. For 3:
-Launch the inbox (Microsoft version, not Sense). Scroll to Email tab and tap Inbox
-Menu --> Tools --> Options
-Tap on the account
-Tap on "Download Size Settings"
-Message download limit dropdown --> Entire Message
-Download Attachments dropdown --> All attachments
Edit: Not really a solution for the second issue, but if you turn on the "Automatically adjust backlight" feature it won't be quite so bright when it does turn on. Start --> Settings --> System --> Power. Check "Automatically adjust backlight".
Perfect! Issue 3 solved. Thanks, bud.
Anyone for the other two?
entire message
From the inbox of an email account - tap the soft button to the right of the keyboard one (menu?). tap on tools then options - tap on the account you wish to modify. You should see an option for Download Size Settings - select "entire message from the bottom drop down menu then click done.
If you are going through an Exchange Server then run the Activesync app on the phone. Click menu then options. Hightlight "email" then tap on settings. Change the download size limit to "entire message" and ok your way out.
I can't help with the other issues as I am new to this phone too.
Ok. Someone beat me to it.
No worries, mate, thanks for chiming in. You did illuminate another method, and thankfully you two have solved one annoying issue. The others will require entering the registery, I'm sure.
Thanks!

On the Email Issue, go to the inbox, tap and hold to bring up the context menu, select Tools / Options, and you can modify the download settings.
settings\sounds and notifications\ notifications tab... in there you can change what different 'events' do.
If there is a setting in your phone for what you want it will be in there.. if not It's likely a registry change you need to do. That I cant help you with as I wouldn't know what you need to change specifically.
