I just had an awesome idea for kind of a demented app. Basically the app would open with activating the camera and a template that resembles a rifle scope. Then the hunt begins, . You hunt down your friend or enemy and when you get them in your sites you pull the trigger and the app sounds a shot and captures the image. Now that you have there image you can subject your pray to any number of things. Things such as, machine gun fire that would animate shooting holes in the image complete with all the blood and gore you would expect. or Nuke them and the image just fades to gray and falls to dust. or Darts, ever want to play darts with your bosses face, now would be your chance also complete with the trickle of blood. There would be countless tortures and funny things you could now take your frustrations out with.
I told you it was demented. but what do you think?
I could help with some of the animations and graphics.

Hey Guys....thanks in advance for any replies...
Can anyone give me some tips on how to take decent pictures with the Evo? In most cases I am taking pictures in dimly lit restaurants or bars (no comments please, heh heh) and most of the time the pictures are completely washed out due to the flash coming on and lighting up the subjects faces like a Christmas tree.
Does anyone know if there are settings, other software or any other tips that can be used to help me take better pictures??
Thank you!
From the camera app, there is a tab on the left side in landscape mode. If you slide it open, choose settings, then brightness a slider will open. I've found that in dim to dark conditions, best results with flash on are with the brightness set to around -2.

Theres an old photographer's trick, not the most elegant of solutions but putting a piece of scotch tape over the flash will help diffuse the light and also get rid of the harsh shadows from the flash.

Honestly this has started to cross my mind too. The two flashes 'sounds' like a good idea...but they are WAY TO HOT for a close up (within 6 feet or so). Now they did actually work pretty well at dusk for a test shot about 12 feet away. (So that should tell you they are too bright for close work)
I am thinking of maybe taping just one and testing.
But you could use scotch tape as posted, because the frosted look of the tape would help diffuse the light. (Remembering it will diminish ability to flash far away.)
Have to start treating this more like cameras now...they are going to require more than point and forget.
Idea
I asked the same question a few weeks ago - why doens't the EVO do light metering.
One though would be to use a LED application to turn on the LED light - maybe on low, and don't use the flash on the camera application? I know a pain to do (and a loss of coolness points) but might work?
if you really want to be photo savvy go to a photo store and get a sheet of diffusion gel, and just place a small cut out in between the flashes and the battery cover. also always shoot as low as you can go with the ISO, the problem with the EVO camera is that when in low light situations it switches to a high ISO, but it doesn't factor in the fact that the flash is going to go off, so when the flash goes off, the high ISO coupled with the strong flash means super overexposed picture. so either leave the camera at iso 100 or 200 and try shooting that way or try the diffusion i stated earlier.
the camera is just very badly coded. for instance what the camera should be doing is lighting the flash to focus, read exposure and compensate, then take the picture with the proper level flash. as it is now all it does is try to focus completely in the dark, then just flash the flash at full power while its taking the picture. it really is a terribly coded camera.
its like the people over at HTC basically just added the lcd's just to add them, i mean we already know that the LCD can be used at various levels of intensity...its a damn shame...
Are there no apps out that improve the cameras function? i figured there would be.
just curious if there's an app or mod out there that allows you to dim the LED flash on this killer phone? i like using the flash when shooting video but it's so bright it makes it difficult to look into the camera without being temporarily blinded.
or am i being a wuss?
agreed
you aren't being a wuss. I was actually wondering this same thing. God forbid you shoot video at night - everyone hates you or goes blind...
You could go to anywhere you buy cameras and look for a diffuser. It would stop it from blinding you but you'd have to rig it to the phone. I've actually used a piece of scotch tape as a makeshift diffuser before and it worked beautifully. Just gotta be careful not to cover the lens.
Hey Guys,
As the Title says. I need tips for taking sphere photos.
I tried it a few times but it fail's... it looks stuttery and ugly. sometimes after rendering, there are "black holes" where pictures were before it has rendered.
So, what do you for good photo spheres and can you post a link to G+ for some examples of acceptable shots (don't uplad it here. It breaks the spher view)?
I will update this post after I get some tips
I had a few good ones I lost because I formatted everything on my phone. Anyways the best tips I can share that always got me good shots are;
-Good lighting!
-Complete the entire 360° sphere
-Keep the phone at a consistent level.
--for example, don't hold the phone chest level when shooting evenly, near your chin when shooting upwards & down by your belly when shooting downward. Keep it at an even level at all times and just aim it in the direction you need.
-Take your time. Keep your movements steady. Try not to get a "Too Fast" message through the entire sphere.
I did shoot some really good ones, too bad I didn't back them up. I'll try to capture a few in a few hours and post them here.
Keep the lens side as still as possible while pivoting the speaker side or tilting it. Greatly reduced tearing and improved stitching
Added a shot taken from my balcony. the left end has a little tear though

my suggestions,
go SLOW,
use the "back" arrow if you go too fast.
try to keep the horizon (if you can see it) level throughout.
if you are doing a partial photosphere, start at one end...DO NOT start in the middle.
dont take enclosed photospheres....vary rarely do indoor photospheres work well. outdoors with some distance between you and objects give the best results.
here are some links to a couple of mine on Google Plus.

How are you uploading them to Google+? Every time I try an upload (from my GS3), It loads in 2D. I'm not getting that 3D effect...

Love your shots!
Never mind. I figured it out.
The primary thing to keep in mind is to keep the LENS as spatially stationary as possible. Rotating around the lens (vs rotating your body) will get you much better results. If you move the lens, you change the perspective and this will cause stitching errors (look up parallax error). The closer the subject is to the lens, the more pronounced the problem becomes. If you're shooting landscapes at a long distance, you don't have to worry nearly as much about it (although you should still try to maintain position as much as possible!) as you do if you're shooting something like an indoor scene.
Frankly, without a tripod and a special head to keep position, I don't think it's feasible to get a perfectly stitched full 360 -- you'd have to be underneath your phone to take the highest level shots accurately.

Thanks for the idea! I've been using a GPS mount as an improvised tripod when I take pictures with the GNex. Just need to figure out how to get it to rotate smoothly on all axes with the lens as the center. Maybe strap the mount onto a tripod?

If it helps, this is the general idea I've had in my head. Excuse my sad drawing capabilities.
Basically the bottom would mount to a tripod that rotates around the center point. There would then be an inner hinge connected to handle vertical rotation (clamped to the phone at the center of the lens).

It seems the map app was updated. I can't upload photo sphere anymore with gallery share > maps. I can still upload it via G+ but I wish they have the map auto update soon.
Is there a way to upload in 3d? Viewable by others on their PCs perhaps? Or on mobile phones? How?

you can do it by mobile chrome browser in desktop mode as well.
Move the phone with calm and stability. Try to keep the same "level", it greatly decreases the likelihood of distortions in the final result.
- Don't try indoors it wont work, objects are too close and the lighting varies a lot. Perhaps with a standard that keeps the lens at the exact same position but turns it around like the one described before?
- Keep the same level
- Make sure you move slow when a dot is approaching.
- Prevent any moving objects from being photographed
You can only upload to maps if you have taken atleast 360degrees worth of pictures. At least that's what I think. So if it's say only from left to right and not behind, you can't upload to maps.
Can anyone corroborate this?
If you want the best results, then you want the centre of your lens to be in the same position in space for each picture.
This means rotating your phone through the axis of the lens, which is at the top of the camera.
The further things are away, the less significant this becomes.

Affirm, have been trying for two days to do one with 180 degree rotation left to right and no maps option. Just tried a 360 degree one (and up and down too), and it gave me the option to upload to Maps and has gone straight through.
Not sure how long it takes to get to Google Maps though.
OK. So when I take my spherical pictures with Photosphere they come out all wrong. LoL!! I just want to know what I'm doing wrong. I mean it's not a Gyroscope issue. It's just I can't take a picture. =.P
Has anyone made a GOOD sphere picture with Photoshere? If you all don't mind sharing them on Google+, or just add some links. Thanks.

This should probably go in q&a, and search is a great function. Try the android games and apps thread:beer:
Slithering from the nether regions of a twisted mind and tarnished soul
Line the dots up it does the rest for you
I like to break stuff!
I was wondering if it should go in Q&A. But when I view the pictures on my phone they are horrible. Like I align the dots, but... my table be in 5 different parts of the photo. It's all janky and stuff.
Maybe if I view them online they would look different. But I'll go try there too. Better prepare my email. They're busy in the general section. LoL!!
And I remember you two!! I was reading through the forums and saw y'all working on getting the Ink effect working. That was crazy. I had no idea what you all were talking about. =.P I love the effect.
Check out the GS3 forum, they should have a grasp on it there.

Photosphere is really for outdoor photography. It doesnt do well in small areas where it has to stitch stuff thats close up. It can manage close ups when theres wide spaces like a large room, but in an avg house theres just not enough room to get a clean pic since the algorithm stitches stuff overlapping alot and you get more of the object in more pics at close range

Tower city in Cleveland. Not full sphere but probably half a sphere.

Exactly. Here is what happens if you are too close to something. Check out the railing.
Yea. I've been taking pictures in my house. LoL!! That's why they've always came out bad. I'll take them outside with plenty of space. I'm sure that'll fix the problem. As for the panorama picture, I'm still on a TouchWiz ROM so I have my stock Camera. I'll just use my stock one for all that. =.P
I just wanted to play with Photosphere.
EDIT: Thanks again everyone. I'm sure I'm not the only one wondering this.
I took my pictures outside and still couldn't get dots to line up. Post pictures when you try yours outside.

Here's a link to my Google+. These are some photos I took at the Alamo. One of them has a giant black bar that doesn't allow you to scroll. The other one had people walking, so that's why they're ghost people. LoL!!
Has anyone tried Google Cardboard for the G3's 1440p Display? I'd imagine its an entirely unique experience for this device's high resolution.
Ive loaded it, haven't yet made my "cardboard viewer". Will report back...

Have recently bought a plastic viewer, which is pretty much like cardboard, but more sturdy (I guess).
The experience is wonderful. There is a video viewer software on google play, where it takes normal video and splits it for each eye (as the eyes are split, so you cannot view it through normal player). It looks amazing with the right content, like being in a massive cinema all by yourself !!
Have not tried it with other phones to compare, but with the G3, it looks amazing.
I got the Dodocase one. Problem is, the screen is too large for the lenses, so you don't see the whole screen. I haven't found anything all that interesting to do with it. Played with it for a few minutes, and probably won't touch it again for a long time. The 3D Google Earth thing would be cool if the quality wasn't so bad (stutters a lot, takes a long time to render, and looks generally bad).
I kinda agree with scoppola here. I got the Dodocase VR kit as well (really well made, BTW, great quality cardboard, feels nice and sturdy). With the Nexus 5, the screen is the right size for the lenses to focus well. But trying it with the OnePlus One, the 5.5" display seemed to be a bit out of focus, unfortunately. Not sure what the best way to remedy this might be, just scooting the screen back a little bit might help. But it seemed difficult to view the whole image properly from that focal length
Dodocase is coming out with a bigger size which should fit g3.
There's also Unofficial Cardboard who have one for bigger phones. I've ordered mine today.
I fell for google cardboard. And made it my self. A bit time consuming to cut every thing but it was free untill I bought the lenses. Amazone.de for a bit more then 10 €. I havnt tried to many apps.
One cool flight sim. (Refugio flight)
Its a great idea. It needs litle more coding I guess.
I printed the blueprint up scaled to 105%. The g3 fits perfect.
Ps. Plz type down the titleof the best 3d apps. Ds.
Hey guys, I hope I'm not too late on the Cardboard thread, so here is my experience - It's amazing! I made one myself with lenses from old binoculars, so I had to adjust the setup(the phone is about 4-5cm away from where it should be on the blueprint), but finally I got it to focus. My only problem is that sometimes the camera "jumps". When you are on a roller coaster ride it suddenly turns the view to the back and you have to turn all the way around to look at the front again or just jumps the front point of view as you rotate your head. It's not happening on all apps, but it is annoying. I tried the phone without case and it seems to be better, but still persists. Has anyone had such problems? I'm wondering if it is because of my custom rom or the water damage my phone suffered (I had water below the lcd screen and it was replaced by warranty, but nothing else). So is there a way to check if my gyroscope is ok and the problem is from the app, the case or the rom? Thank you!
P.S. Here is my list of installed app - try them out, they are amazing and all are available on Google Play:
1. VRSE - Sundance
2. Lanterns for Google
3. Snow Mountain
4. Cosmic Roller Coaster
5. VR Free Flight
6. Vanguard VR
7. Hoverboard Dive
8. VR Roller Coaster
9. Crazy Swing VR
10. Jurassic Dino VR
11. VR Cave Flythrough
12. VR Volcano Flythrough
13. ZenVR
14. Cartoon Village VR
15. Mad Race VR
16. Orbulus
17. Roller Coaster VR
18. Titans of Space for Cardboard
19. Cmoar Roller Coaster
20. Cardboard Craft
21. Dive Deep
22. VR Airplane Flight
23. VR Fores Animals
That's all I left on my phone and I've tried maybe around 10-15 more. I didn't left those that require a bluetooth controller, since I still have to hold the phone to my face
