Bad 3G/Internet dutch stock WM6.5 ( PROVIDER HI ) - Touch Pro2, Tilt 2 Windows Mobile General

Hi All,
I wonder if anybody ran into the same.
I upgraded to WM 6.5 ( stock / dutch ) the day it came out. For many weeks i had random internet problems when the phone returned from standby.
For example the weather keeps saying "updating" and my pop3 email does not work ( server error ). Then when i put the phone in airplane mode and back on ..... problem solved ( till the next failure ).
This is not consistant ... sometimes standby 3 times without problem .... but usually it happens several times a day.
Thought i could be all the software i put on it. So Flashed back a "clean " stock ROM ... disabled sense .... just an empty windows home screen .... SAME PROBLEM.
Yesterday i flashed the stock wm 6.1 back ..... NO PROBLEMS sofar .... this morning the weather was nicely updated .... and emails received. With 6.5 i had the guarantee that i had to use the "airplane mode trick" every morning .
Anyone ran into the same and solved this ??? IF not....... anyone a clue on what to try ?? I have noticed that the automated error report send reports on services.exe now and then in 6.5
I have a HTC TP2 and use a HI sim as provider ( only used stock HTC dutch ROMS ).
Thanks in advance

Hi there,
Since I see you are using Hi, I have the same problem. I think its quite safe to say it's not your phone as yours, mine and my boyfriends phone all have a problem with the internet.
I usually turn the phone off and back on and then it works, but not always.. Guess its just a problem in the Hi network!
Either way, good luck and I hope for all us Hi-users that it will be up and running again soon
Regards from a fellow Dutchie!

Well had the same with 6.1 ... was hopefull but no result either.
So 6.5 flashed again. This time i used some settings with SKtools ..... AND I THINK ITS SOLVED ....
Will test a few days and when i have improvement .... will let you know. But sofar no hangs of any kind.
SKtool setting ..... OPTIMIZE > STABILITY

Oh thats great!
If youve found something that helps, indeed please let me know. I was close to calling the Hi helpdesk but well.. they're kind of expensive and somewhat slow..

Well .... is improved .... but had 2 lockups of internet today
Am listening to helpdesk music ATM ( 30 mins sofar )... will advise the result .
GREAT ... after 34 mins someone picked up .... and ...... disconnected .... calling again
EVEN GREATER ..... after 25 mins more : " sir it must be your phone settings " ....
Well updating emails 20 times ... stuck at attempt 21 ....... can't be settings right ... why does it work 20 times then ??
"pwisseh" .... perhaps you should call the helpdesk also ... the more complaints ... the better i supose
sigh ( even more ) ..... call it weird ... but since 4 to 6 weeks hi improved the internet speed .... thats when the trouble started in my opinion.
AND THE BATTLE CONTINUES

I have to say, ever since I installed Opera Mini today I have not had any problems! (touch wood!) Maybe that works for you aswell, you could try?
Ive never found the Hi-helpdesk very helpful actually, so I usually dont call them haha

well ... keep me posted if you have trouble with or without the opera mini.
actually I have the problem with mail .... automated weather etc etc.
Yesterday it worked without a problem from 15.00 local time. This morning i checked and was locked again. The automated was updated 3 hours before that ... that was the last connection.
My mail is updated every 10 mins ... my weather every 30 mins. That means that it worked out perfectly for dozens of times ( from 15.00 till 3.00 ).
Sometimes it workes for 1 or 2 days ... then stuck 5 times on 1 day. So if you have no trouble when you used opera mini for a week ... please let me know

Ow, that really is stupid!
Actually, I have had a problem with internet before and I called the helpdesk to help me but they didnt know what to do, so I started fiddling around with my phone and found a setting that was incorrect. It was something in the internet settings that said (sorry, its going to be in Dutch) "verbind internet door proxy server" or something along those lines. My box was unchecked and as soon as I checked it (or the other way around, I cant actually remember, sorry xD), it worked.. maybe you could try finding this setting?
I have looked in my phone, I think its under Settings, Connections (Verbindingen) and then Connections again. Theres 6 clickable links there for me and the one I used was under "Hi mobile internet" the 3rd one, the link says "Bestaande verbindingen beheren" (or Manage exsisting connections in English, I guess?) and then the 3rd tab Advanced. Just check the settings there and maybe you need to (un)check something there.
Anyway, my internet is still working fine with my Opera Mini 5 beta 2, so maybe that helped? I'll keep you updated!

Hi ... Thanks for the info. What are you proxy settings then ?
I need to fill in something i supose when i use a proxyserver ( the address
I starting to suspect the HI network more and more.... also have no problems anymore ... normally it was a few times a day... am stable now for 36 hours or so

My solution
change AP: portalmmm.nl to "internet", without quotes (of course)
This solved all my disconnects (activesync, IE, opera ,google maps)
greetz

Ok, well what I have is this: the first check-able thing is "This network has a connection with the internet" (checked for me), the second thing is "This network uses a proxyserver to connect with the internet" (unchecked for me) and the third thing is an open line you can write in and that's empty for me.
I think that when I could not connect with the internet, I had the second box checked but no proxyserver filled in. If you try to set it just like me, it should work really.
Also, so far so good, its still all working fine!
@destroatenmoaker (loving the name, btw xD) for me portalmmm.nl works fine, but I guess I could try that if it stops working for some reason (lets hope not.. haha)

Yup the way you write it ... I always had it . Olso i use the portalmmm and had no problems before.
I have had NO lockups since 36 hours now ( portalmmmm ) ... with no changes made to the phone. So I supose it was a long during disturbence of the HI network ( like 6 weeks for me ). Someone also send me a PM to say that HI had the problems.
I hate the fact of the bad suposrt with the helpdesk though

Ow right ok!
Well guess that explains our problem (or past problem now!). Glad it was Hi that had the problems and not our phone and also thanks to the anonymous person for clearing that up
Also, just as a side note, I dont think many Dutch people actually have a TP2? I've only seen about 2/3 people so far and trust me, I see a lot of people on one day haha

Nice legs, Shame about the face

topic title kinda gives you an idea of what im on about, no? ill explane...
its looks good, verry good in black (O2 XDAIIs) but it dont work propperly.
now im shure the HW is good, but the crap Microsoft put on there is a big let down.
im no expert on SW, im just a plane old end user and im not happy
how can the XDAII work 100% (for me) but the XDAIIs not ?
for example. i had tomtom3 on the xda2 for months, not one, i say not one problem.
but after finaly getting it to run on the xda2s it worked ONCE but no more.
the timer comes up for a few seconds then tomtom flashes up at the title bar
then "puff" its gone ?
goto "running programs" in the memory manager thingy and its not there.
the xda2s slows down nealy ALL the time to a crawl so much so that
i lost count of the resets i have done in the 2 days i had it for.
i even had to do a hard reset this morning thinking that may help.
sorry guys i think i will give it a few more days (ive got 14 home aprovel) then i will send it back.
maybe whate for the xda3 (will it have wifi?)
the MAIN reason i got the xda2s was the WIFI, i would get a SD, WIFI card but i keep my tomtom maps on the SD card so i would need
a SD card WiFi with memory on it :S
is there such a thing, or better still a GPS/WIFI/MEMORY SD card ?
(pushing it there i think lol)
oh well, the looking forward to the XDA2s was better than haveing it (so far)

Interesting. I was getting this exact problem on my XDA II when I first tried to use it a couple of days ago. Worked fine in the house as I was playing with it (new toy ) but as soon as we went out in the car it stopped with the same symptoms you describe.
In the end I hard-reset my XDA II and it seems to be fine now.
The first time I installed the TomTom software I used the default (non Win SE) disk, but second time I used the 'Update' disc. Perhaps the update disc is better for Win2k Phone Edition devices...
i'm new to the pocket pc arena and was looking forward to *using* my new xda iis... i'm now *working* with my xda iis, trying to make it reliable and actually useful.
when i first got it, it ran a movie for 2.5 hours perfectly while on my train journey, syncronised my files perfectly, except it refuses to backup my text messages (a feature, not a bug apparently) and redraws the interface and programs very very s l o w l y.
i was appalled that they'd even release this half-finshed software. And am now looking for a newer/better/faster ROM... Might as well use a pencil and paper.

Difficulties with phone after upgrading to the new ROM

Hi folks ...
I face this problem with the phone many times a day. I can confirm it happens each time there is a failed call attempt (you couldn't make the call) ... the only way is to switch off the phone and turn it on again.
I thought it's something with RSU 1.09.00 but it happens also after downgrading to 1.08.00 ... so I think it has to do with the new ROM. It tells the signal maybe unavailable while you can see it is on the max level.
Edit: last observation ... it can receive SMS :?:
Any one faced this experience ??

Ive noticed in your screen shot the active sync is trying to connect with the internet which will prevent you phone from making the call. To give a example .... if I was downloading a file using my universal and someone tried to call me they would get my mail instead of ringing as the phone is using the internet connection however as soon as the file downloaded the phone would break the internet connection and allow the call. Hope that made sense!
I thought the service is supposed to interrupt the download if the phone rings as the primary function of the device is a telephone and secondary as a mobile computing platform.

That's what I always thought but even with my trusty old imate jam I found if I got a call as I was downloading say mail the call would not make it though, try downloading a biggish file then ring your phone number at the same time I bet it will not make it This as ALWAYS been the case btw - don't matter which rom you have. oh and this applies to gsm (2.5 gprs) only as 3G is a totally different ball game!
thx for all inputs but it happens even without activesync running ... it doesn't work again except by switching the phone off then on ... the most exciting part: u will never notice that your phone is frozen till you try to make a call  ... this will make me to go back to the old rom
More observation on this issue ... I made a hard reset and started without any problems with the phone part ... I restored a system backup and all went well ... the phone issue appeared again when I paired my BT headset with the device ... this might mean something to do with the BT stack ... I believe it happens mostly during or after using the headset :?:
Any similar experiences ?

Same Problem Here... I was going to downgrade to 1.08.00, but now I may not... Don't want to lose the speed increase, so don't want to downgrade ROM...
back again ...
I made another hard reset and staretd without any s/w installed for a week .. the phone seemed to be stable but with the same annoying BT disconnect issue ... the above issue started to appear again after installing some phone related s/w like Smart Filter and PZP ... I think the new Radio ROMs starting with 1.08 have an issue with such applications that would continously check on phone traffic or have OS hooks to catch some events ... this wasn't the case with Radio 1.02 or 1.03 ... I 'm thinking to get back to 1.03 since I got nothing from 1.08 or 1.09 except quick battery draining!!

Help Greatly Appreciated: Phone cuts off. Possible power or WM6 problem.

I used to own a T Mobile MDA Compact 3 which I believe is the same as the Artemis.
The phone worked fine for me over the 18 months I had it. However I've since sold this phone on ebay and the buyer has reported a problem where it keeps cutting off via email.
I don't know if he's pulling a fast one or if this is a genuine problem. If it is a genuine problem how do I fix it? Any help would be appreciated.
The only problem I've had with the phone is a screen problem on it in January and went back to T Mobile for repair. They sent it back with a replaced screen and WM6 on it which the buyer is saying is likely to be the cause of the power cut outs.
If it is WM6 does anyone know how to downgrade the device back to WM5? Any help appreciated.
Rather than paraphrase his emails I'll just list them in order received:
Email 1 received:
"hi.. this phone keeps switching off compeletely. each time i have to restart. sometimes its after 10mins other times its later. do you still have any warranty on it? if so can you post me paperwork and i can possibly have it repaired. if not then its faulty. it just keeps randomnly switching itself off. ive tried hard resets. even downloaded latest roms from tmobile website for compact 3 but still no success. ?? only other thing i can try is reinstalling windows mobile....."
I asked him for the link used to download the rom:
Email 2:
"tmobile direct.. under support and software.. i worked for 02 providing data support on pdas for 7 years and now own a 60 seater call centre in manchester and sell consumer and business mobile phones.. look at my feedback. ive bought and sold many pdas. im familar with them. backlight and power settings are unticked. it just completely shuts down. same as would when you would when you do a soft reset. after a hard reset the only thing you can really do is make sure the latest rom or software is installed. its an intermittent problem and i cant replicate it all the time. when it does it just switches off completely. no error messages at all. on standby it fine. its when your using the phone, any application or even on the internet. did wm6 come with the phone or did you install this yourself. ive noticed wm6 is not available on this model by tmobile. they have taken it off their websites.. ive used wm5 and have never experienced problems with them. if wm6 was an upgrade do you have wm5"
Email 3:
"i will try another battery as i have more mda compact 3's... if it works with another battery. no probs. i'll keep it. if it doesnt then i will have no option but to return as its faulty. could well be the battery if you have used it for about 18mths.. will keep you posted. thanks"
Email 4:
"i have done a little more testing and here is a problem that i can replicate every 5-10 mins.. the phone itself if not used does not switch off. its when its used that i have the problem. i have noticed in the about section the phone originally came with WM5. so maybe its the WM6 that is not fit for the phone? WM6 is not available and not supported on this model by Tmobile. Anyway. if i log onto to the internet via gprs and am physically browsing after a few mins the phone will reboot itself and switch off. so if im on the internet but not actually browsing and have just a gprs session active, the phone is fine. its only when i am actually browsing a site - it can be any randomn sites its not linked to any one site.. regards bash - hope the above makes sense.."
Email 5:
"i still have not had chance to try with a different battery but when i do i will let you know. i dont think you are a rip off merchant at all. im just letting you know the problems i am experiencing. its not just the internet. its also when i use my own 3rd party software which i use on other mdas orbits and spvs and works totally fine. i will speak to tmobile in the morning and see if i can get wm5 off them as i think its related to wm6. if the battery or wm5 does not fix it then i will have no choice but to return it. will keep you posted. regards"
bump.
Any help really appreciated.
I have the very same problem here !!!!
Dont think its the battery because it started from one moment to another with a FULL battery
I had the same problem with my phone turning off during use for no reason even when the battery was showing it was charged.
I replaced my battery and all seems to be OK now.

GPRS problem unsolved

Hi,
Im using unlocked T-mobile MDA pro 64mb phone with WM 6.1 (build 19960.1.1.8 TML)
The problem is that when I connect to GPRS, Internet explorer, outlook and most of the internet softwares (opera browser, google maps etc...) don't work. Internet explorer stops at loading. outlook says synchronization error. But, a few softwares like IM messenger, some trading software work fine. The problem occurs only when on GPRS. Everything works fine on wifi.
I have been facing this problem since I have unlocked the phone and flashed it for the first time. I have flashed for several times with various roms. initially it works but soon problem reappears. hmm.. Problem did not appear in WM 6.5 (but phone is hell slow. So, im forced to remove it). Further the problem is not network specific as I tried on various networks.
Guys please help me.. I searched a lot on internet and it seems like no one is facing this type of problem in the whole world except me
(Except this: social.microsoft.com/forums/en-US/windowsmobilephonesandaccessories/thread/64977e4f-c8ba-482a-9845-c1d80f88fd71/)

Hi!
thnx for ur reply... I'm desperately waiting for it...
Any how I tried this... as usually it worked fine at the beginning and problem repeated again. The new development is that the application which I said to be working previously (IM messenger etc...) are also now working now...
Very much frustrated about this issue as I'm unable to find the background reason for it . Even the XDA forums cant help it....And the worst part is that warranty is not going to apply as I unlocked it..
Yet no solution...
info?
Which network?
Prepaid/postpaid?
Did you add a new connection manually yet it won't work?
You are doing something wrong because this is weird.
Go to start>settings>connection>connections>tasks>add new connection>
name...anything, access point.....airtelgprs.com / internet (for idea ) / aircelgprs etc.
Done.
Launch browser , it should connect if you have data plan / enough credit.

Hi
Thanks for your suggestions.
Im using airtel network. and all those settings are already set on my phone.
Yes. I accept that my problem is weird. Thats the reason why I'm unable to find a solution for it.
Yet... I'm testing by changing various roms and still no success.
every time the problem repeats on 2-3 usages of gprs.
When I use opera browser it says that "I have some problem in settings". What to do I've checked those settings for hundreds of times and further if there is a problem in connection settings then why the heck it worked for the first few times?
Some stupid suggestions
Try same sim in another handset,
Try another sim or another network in THE Uni,
Try another cell tower area,
Because I have tried every single ROM ...shipped or cooked and this has nothing to do with GPRS getting disconnected.
As you said "I am the only one in the world with this problem" , means it cannot be a real problem , have faith , keep trying.
And for the warranty...Just flash the Original ROM and you are good again!

Hi
I did every experiment I can think of.... Including testing this sim on other phone or testing the other sim on this phone.
I even tried flashing the original T-mobile rom.
I also tried to find if the programs I install has something to do with the problem...but found none of it affects.
As you said it may not be a rom problem.
If it fails to work completely then I can guss some thing about the origin of the problem like rom or hardware or whatever...
As it is working well initially, I don't understand where exactly the problem lies...
have you done a doc-format? sometimes that can get rid of very peculiar problems.

Hi
Is the process of using mtty and task 28 55aa command what you call doc-format (sorry for ignorance)?
Then I've already did it...
anyway thanks for your suggestion...
I think the real culprit is activesync. anyway I have to do some tests and confirm.
To clear my doubt I decided to conduct a small test. I factory reset my system for three times to check the gprs connectivity...
First reset:
1. GPRS worked flawlessly.
2. On connecting to pc + pairing up + synchronizing problem reappeared.
second reset:
1. GPRS worked flawlessly.
2. On connecting to pc by pairing up problem reappeared.
First reset:
1. GPRS worked flawlessly.
2. On connecting to pc without pairing up problem reappeared.
So, this strengthened my assumption that the problem is with active sync.
I cannot confirm so easily...
Further I would use my phone with out connecting to PC for 3-4 days and check if problem reappears.
Then I would check it by connecting to a different PC. Then I can confirm whether the problem is with active sync of my system or the phone...
By the way, today is the second day of my testing without connecting to pc and no issues detected till now
folks,
Today on the fourth day of my test, I conclude that connecting to my pc creates the gprs problem. No Idea how and why...
suggestions any one?
anyhow I would connect my phone to a different pc and check out if the problem is with my pc or with the phone...
no suggestions?
How much space have you got on the phone after sync? The computer may be trying to sync to uni even though you are not aware of it.
How confident are you with dealing with your computer registry, I mean, if you are using a Windows PC that is. You should try to clear any traces of old pairings from the PC before connecting the Uni to it again and allowing it to do a fresh start. It may be loading all sorts of corrupted or duplicated data that are messing up with your system. Backup your registry first, just in case you mess it up by mistake, to be on the safe side. Then, get stuck in and search for the word activesync (or words to that effect in your language) on the registry and where it shows the pairing settings delete only the keys related to pairing with the Uni, then try connecting again. Hope this helps.

Desire keeps asking for PIN

Hi all,
have had my Desire for a couple of months now, well pleased with it. I have not in any way modified it other than installed some apps from market. This afternoon after lunch while it was in my Brodit car holder I suddenly noticed it was asking for PIN code. Entered it, fine. But then a couple of minutes later, same thing again. And again.
Just now I was typing an SMS to somebody and just before finishing screen blanks out, then the screen asking for PIN comes up.
What the heck?
Anybody who has had similar problems and knows what causes/caused them?
I haven't had the battery or sim card out or anything, it just suddenly started doing this.
Cheers
//Joris
*edit*
I have tested switching off the phone, removing battery for a couple of mins then reinserting and rebooting, but same problem persists.
Wonderful, we're going on holidays in 2 days.... :'(
Well I couldn't for the life of me figure out what the problem was, tested with another SIM but same. Completely random, sometimes it would last half an hour sometimes not even a minute.
Did a clear storage/hard reset and after that all seems fine. Except for that my conversations were still there, but somehow if I get an sms from somebody now it's added to the wrong conversation. Then if I reply to it, it goes to the person in the conversation, not the person who sent the msg
Deleted all msgs now so should be sorted. Think a problem with all contacts syncing to and from Microsoft Outlook, it messed up all phone numbers like this:
46 2342423423
so no + and a space between country code and phone number. ANnoying as heck but haven't figured out if there's a setting in outlook or htc sync to solve this.
//J
What ROM/Radio is it running?? is it unbranded??
I have no idea. Bought from Komplett here in Sweden, i.e. unbranded and unlocked. It's running what it came with since there haven't been any updates and I haven't the balls to start experimenting about with it
Strange, I just picked up my Desire today. I rooted it this evening and only noticed it happening after rooting it. I didn't run it for very long unrooted though, so I don't know if it's related. I wonder what's causing it.
maybe this helps:

Thanks but it goes to SIM lock rather than phone lock... like when you first switch on your phone. The phone doesn't reboot though, it just asks for the SIM pin all of a sudden, even when you're doing something on it.

i also had this problem (well more or less) for me it happened when my cellphone signal dropped to limited service (or no services at all) after the phone picks up a signal again its asks for a pin. you mind want to check this out aswell. i fixed this by going into the settings and fiddling around with network/mobile operator settings and such, soz i cant remember exactly, but this did the trick for me.
hope it helps.
I was going to take it back to the shop when I thought I'd try a different ROM first. I installed the OpenDesire 3.0.1 Froyo ROM last night and so far it hasn't done it yet. Maybe the official Froyo ROM won't have that problem either.
Tester app
Hi
I've been having the same problem on my X10 Mini Pro for the last couple of days. To try and figure out what's causing this I've made a small app that checks the sim-status periodically. If it's not available or a pin-code is required for unlocking it the phone starts vibrating plus default notification-sound.
If you're fast you can check your device's LogCat with aLogCat (available from market). At least you'll get notified that you're unreachable
Since I have no Market-account yet you have to upload it to your phone manually with adb. Search google for a howto.
See attached file.
Hi!
Do you have Exchange 2010 sync?
Hi have the same porblem with LG Optimus 2x.
