Hello , i havent wrote in xda in a long time and now i kinda need help to understand again.
So i used to own several HTC devices and always could hard-spl them and stuff.
This friend brought me his hero, to unlock and install some custom roms.
The rooting everyone is talking about is gaining access to root so that you can install custom roms right ?
Phone is like this atm
Firmware Version : 1.5
Baseband : 63.18.55.06FU_6.35.07.08
Kernel : 2.6.27-0078c992
Build : 2.73.405.38 CL#70768 release-keys
Software Version : 1.0.0.A6288
I managed to successfully create a gold card, but i am failing to gain root access.
Do i need to do something else or goldcard is enough to flash custom firmware ?
Please do not respond with another wiki post, i have tried to read several already, i just need to figure out what need to be done so i can flash it and so my friend gets it in time.
Thanks in advance.

Hi All,
I am new to rooting / flashing ROMs.
I bought a HTC Hero from India. Following are the details of my firmware / software
Firmware Version: 1.5
Baseband: 63.18.55.06EU_6.35.06.18
Kernal: 2.6.27.8dd6deee
Build: 2.73.720.5
Software version: 1.0.0.A6288
I would like to try the Android 2.1 ROM on my HTC Hero.
I have been following a procedure which requires a RUU_Hero_HTC_WWE_2.73.XXX.XX_WWE_release_signed_NoDriver ROM file which will downgrade the HTC Hero for flashing.
I have tried all possible RUU files and the procedure fails with a 131 error, Which probably means that I am using a wrong RUU file.
Can someone please help me locate the right RUU file for downgrading.
OR
Alternately suggest another procedure to flash the 2.1 ROM.
Thanks in advance.

Use the Gold Card method and downgrade, then you can do whatever you want.
follow stickies mate, anything suggested here may be lesser to what has already been suggested. if you get to know something interesting over and above the stickies then let others know about that..cheers

Hey all,
I'm stuck on 2.73.710.61. I'm in Oz and have had plenty of experience with WINMOB and my G1. Orignally downgraded my G1 using the gold card method.
My gold card for Hero was created successfully and gets to bootloader than fails the downgrade.
I have not seen any mentions of the 2.73.710.61 firmware or the firmware stated by the original poster...
Are we missing anything or does the gold card have to be kingston??? From memory my G1 goldcard was a kingston...
Also the phone is not locked to any carrier, it is straight out of the box with the genuine HTC only firmware...
Please no flamming with use search idiot because there is no direct link or search for the firmware i am mentiong.
TIA
and
Respect...
I'm new to the modded android ROM scene, but do have a technical background and have had experience in modding PSPs.
I am having great difficulty downgrading my HTC Hero from 2.73.710.61
I am from OZ like the previous poster, have an unlocked genuine Hero bought from Harvey Norman.
I have tried many methods without luck, hitting the worst case scenario for each 'How To' guide, which in turn pointed me to the next guide. Which failed...
If anyone could please give me some help it would be greatly appreciated. My initial problem was that I could not find the 'RUU_Hero_HTC..' ROM to downgrade with, all versions i tried came up with the 'Wrong Client' error.
Thanks in advance!
.....so six hours later and I have made much progress.. HOORAY! I can confirm the Goldcard method DOES work for the HTC Hero 2.73.710.61 and I believe this is the ONLY method that will enable you to proceed with UN-ROOTING, ROOTING, DOWNGRADING etc...
Steps to create the Goldcard that didnt work, eventually ended up working, after much troubleshooting.. long story. Now im on my way to installing EzHero V5.0.1 custom ROM
for all those having problems with flashing, downgrading, gold card...etc...
please , there is Btdag's thread, read it and read again, follow every single step stated in the guide. if you get stuck, start all over again.
Btdag made it so detailed even you have never seen a computer before, i'm sure you can do it. goodluck.

Just use flashrec to save your recovery and then flash Amon-Ra recovery. I had the same phone and flashrec worked straight away.
I have also flashed the India OTA for 2.1 and got back a custom recovery through flashing the 2.73.420.5 ROM using a goldcard - just search and you'll find the threads.
Cheers
Hi this is my first post so go easy on me please, Im looking into flashing my htc desire im fairly familer with flashing other devices such as xbox or ps
and i want to ensure i get this right obviously. Xda is a great source of information .. ive tryed to read through a lot of it to make sure im familer with proccess
and id just like to make sure ive understand what has been posted correctly.
So as far as rooting is concerned i can follow either of these 2 guides :-
h**p://rootmydroid.co.uk/guides/desire/howto-root-your-htc-desire
h**p://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=696189
•Root guide for users who have unbranded(unlocked) Desire - post #2
on this guide i notice you flash with rootupdate.zip , so am i correct in thinking that with any of the roms i download i just rename them to rootupdate for this proccess to work ?
Also ive noticed a lot of talk about backing up and one program keeps popping up called nandroid , as far as im aware i can use this to make a image of my phone and restore at a later date should i want to,
is there a tutorial ive missed in regards to this program someone could point out or any other programs i should use to backup data on phone ... ?
Finally my phone details , i would just like to confirm that im fine for flashing
FW version 2.1update 1
baseband version 32.36.00.28U_4.06.02_2
kernal version 2.6.29-0cb9f166
build number 1.21.405.2
software number 1.21.405.2
H.Boot 0.80.0000
Microp-031d
Radio-4.06.00.02_2
Any help is obviously appreciated thank you , as i say i want to make sure i understand the tuts and info provided
nooooo no no no no, first of all follow this guide to rooting its by far the easyist, http://nimbu.amorvi.com/2010/05/how-to-root-your-htc-desire/, once rooted you will be able to flash any rom from recovery, i suggest flashin the latest clockworkmod recovery from here http://www.unrevoked.com/#desire, when flashing anything there is no need to change there name these days
Just follow the following tutorials to root and flash roms. It's easy as pie.
http://theunlockr.com/2010/06/07/how-to-root-the-htc-desire/
http://theunlockr.com/2010/06/07/how-to-load-a-custom-rom-on-the-htc-desire/
For backup, recovery and whatnot, use ROM Manager app from within Android. It does the same thing as nandroid in recovery mode.
wow thanks for the speedy replys guys really appreciated , im going to go over the information both of you have provided over tea shortly and post back
Since you are 0.80 i suggest not to follow the nimbu's guide. These guides from my understanding is for Hboot 0.75 and lower. The higher ones like myself use a different file. You can follow the steps from theunlockr.com but don't use their file. If u want the 0.80 file i would get it from desire.modaco.com its i think on the first page of the forums.
I just flashed yesterday and i had to open many different tabs cause none of the guides state 0.80 or higher and which files to use.
ok ive gone thru the tuts both have provided and i notice they all tell you to make a gold card , i was under impression i dident need to do this as my phone is network free ?
why not just use unrevoked 3.0?
well this tut i posted is revoked
h**p://rootmydroid.co.uk/guides/desire/howto-root-your-htc-desire
also can i confirm i dont need to make a gold card as im unbranded / network free ?
My phone was unbranded but I still couldn't get past step II on Unrevoke, which was related with goldcard. I suggest you go make one.

If it's unbranded then you can skip the gold card step.

Kernel Ver. 2.6.32.21-gf3f553d

can anyone tell me from what ver., and Ver. of what, do you have to perform downgrading?
thanks.
No need to downgrade.
Use this one:

If u want an ENG bootloader (not needed for custom roms and root, but recommend):

You can brick your phone, be careful!

how to root gingerbread
hi everybody,
forgive me if I' writing in the wrong place but for me has been enough difficult to get here..
I'm a rookie android user and I've been flying over the forums for the last three days, I'm really getting crazy.
Here are the specifics of my phone (branded):
android version 2.3.3
kernel version 2.6.35.10-gd2564fb
software number 2.50.405.2
and here's the problem:
I have purchased an AR drone and I'm trying to get it connected so I visited the following link: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1072281
seems that the first thing i need is a ROOTED Desire HD . I have tried every thing. Visionary (in different releases installed with ASTRO) seems not to be working. When i select Temproot now, after a while, the screen turns black. I waited for several minutes but nothing happened. So I needed to exit the program selecting "home". At that point it didn't allow me to rerun the app, I needed to reboot the phone to get it working again but no success.
So I tried GINGERBREAK 1.2 but after 25 minutes the rebooting process was still going on and I guessed that something was not working properly (as usual), so I stopped it. I think there is also a problem with Superuser (v 2.3.6.3), infact when I try to update it, it says "an error occurred and su was not updated. A zip file (su-2.3.1-bin-signed.zip) has been placed on your sdcard, please reboot into recovery mode and flash it to update your su binary" (by the way...sorry for my inexperience, but what does "flash something" mean????).Anyway, my phone doesn't reboot on clockwork recovery.
Moreover, upon opening Rom manager (v4.3.2.4) it tells me that I must root my phone to get it working (of course) and that it cannot find Superuser at "system/bin/su" or "system/xbin/su". Guess what! I don't have such files on my phone.....
At this time i don't know what else I can do, I'm relly frustrated.
Can anyone help me out? keep in mind that if you have any kind of solution, I need some very "plain" explanation like if you were talking to your 5 years old son, please
Thanks
If we update with software number 2.50.405.2 can we root?
No, firmware > 2.37 cannot be rooted.
Thanks for the info, I guess I have to get rid of my AR Drone
Hello Everybody,
Firstly sorry for my bad English
Im trying root my DHD but always there is problem. I tried this
1-VISIONary+
I clicked Temproot now and a screen comes about rooting and after this screen goes to black and nothing.and after phone works so slowly
2-Gingerbreak
When I click Root Device there is a dialog box and write;
Rooting
Running exploit...
This may take a few minutes!
Device will be reboot on success!
this dialog box can wait 10 days but never close so its not working.
3-SuperOneClick
it seems work firstly but it comes to this line;
Running psneuter...
and after nothing again.
Please help me and thank you
the same problem
Hi
I have the same issue as Delisaber. Deli is your DHD also from T-mobile?
What are your build numbers in software info?
Sent from my Desire HD using Tapatalk

Do you all know that it is nessecarily to downgrade your device ROM Software to Version 1.32 or 1.72??
You CAN NOT ROOT your device with Gingerbread or Android 2.x the easy way.
Check this and download your ROM 1.2x or 1.3x or 1.7x for your current provider.
Flash it - and after all ROOT it.

he asked for the rom build version not the kernel version. but anyway this kernel version indicates a gingerbread rom version. as he said above you need to downgrade. look up jkojos post.

Please help me Im new on Android...
you cannot root any newer desire hd build, you must downgrade first, to downgrade you must temp-root first.
full guide here http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1152233. It involves adb command, so if you're not familiar with these, get someone who have the knowledge to help you
Hi all,
i am new to this forums and i have read all the guide to root and install custom rom in DHD and after reading all the guides i would like to flash a custom rom on my DHD, but i am a bit confused need few clarification.
below are my phone specs.'
Android Version - 2.3.5
HTC sense version - 3.0
software number - 3.13.720.2
Kernel version - 2.6.35.10-g931a37e
baseband version - 12.65.60.29U_26.14.04.28_M

below are my concerns.
1. do i need to unlock my bootloader using HTCDEV.com method?
2. do i need to downgrade my firmware since its 3.13 because i didnt find any method to get root/s-off option for 3.13 firmware.
please help
I am failry new to rooting and flashing (currently on Leedroid) - I just followed the instructions in the Advanced Hack Tool and it was done within 10 mins. It is all automatic as long as you read the instructions and set everything up porperly.
I've you use this site and follow the steps it will downgrade and root your phone, it is the easyst why.
www.xda-developers.com/android/how-to-root-the-htc-desire-hd/
thanks for the reply but if u see my software version is 3.13.720.2 because of this i am confused. what i need to know is that do i need to downgrade my phone to lower version and then root it? and also a method to downgrade my phone from 3.13 to other lower version.
thanx
Ive you follow the steps the program will automaticly downgrad men
reply
Yeah as the other users said dude,downgrade..use the ace hack kit etc,it doesnt take long and follow it to the letter, wipe your sd card totally not quick format..
serious..to the letter.takes an average of 10-15 minutes, if you dont understand a majority of it,just ask questions along the way,it truly is the easiest way,i cant comment on the htcdev unlock bootloader method, hopefully someone who has used that can help you with it,but id say go down the ace hack way
fairly sure the htcdev way has someone limitations to it..think if you want it perm rooted you have to still do it yourself,as i said though not done it.
(possibility im wrong but if anyone cares to correct me,happy days)
i tried AAHK and my phone downgraded successfully but after i run AAHK again it flashed the radio but when i goes to another step my phone powering on with black screen dont knw wht to do?
