[UPDATED January 29] Which is the best WM6 ROM? Benchmarks of 52 ROMs + links

Ladies and Gentlemen!
After an extended period of flashing I am pleased to present you with the result of my effort
I took 52 ROMs (all except for one based on the official releases) and run them through benchmarks in SPB Benchmark 1.6.

ROMs were tested on my HERM 100 (Orange M3100) with 1 GB Kingston MicroSD. Radio version is 1.54.30.0 and during the testing phone part of the device was off (flight mode). Device was attached to a charger. All ROMs were tested immediately after the flash. SPB benchmark was installed into the main memory. After that I soft resetted the device, and stopped all running programs using settings>>memory. All ROMs were tested with their original settings - i.e. no today plug-ins were disabled. Results are device specific - some tests use the MicroSD card - so if you do the tests your results will probably differ.
Findings:​
1) Cooked ROMs do make a difference: increased performance is obvious, additional tweaks and enhanced functionality of cooked ROMs make official ROMS quite useless.
2) Lite ROMs are more snappy and as they get more bloated their speed diminishes. Install only programs you need.
3) Black ROMs seem to be the fastest so far.
4) Faria is really a great cook (his ROM proved worthy it's almost legendary status )
5) There is more than just benchmark results that makes a ROM great. Read their respective threads about their advantages and disadvantages.
6) Cooked ROMs have made a noticeable progress since january. Older benchmark results can be found here and here. The performace and usability gain is quite impressive.
7) Older ROMs scored lower than the newer ones. Keeping your device updated is good for it's health
8) Actual differences between latest ROMs are quite small. Choose according to your taste.
9) Out of new (3.62.0-3) ROMs Schap's ROMs are outstanding. He is like a good (French) wine - gets better with age, The only ROMs with similar results were Black ROMs which are out of development now
10) Newest ROMs are very fast - including official one from Telstra - it seems that the video playback problem older official ROMs had is gone and official ROM now can compete with cooked ROMs in terms of speed
11) kin0kin has made a straight run for the elite cookers with his K's Rom v1.21. It is one of the fastest available.
12) Shamanix's Grass 2.2 is officially the second fastest ROM I have tested (R.I.P. Black ROMs)
13) New Pandora 6 Naked ROM also broke records in some categories...
Notes:
- I will not run tests on following ROMs:
- Sajakati's HypercoreLite froze while benchmarking (only HR solved the situation) and though I run less tests than usually it did not finish properly - benchmarking not recommended due to extreme instability while doing so) However new Black Dragon Sajakati's ROM was running very smoothly and I had absolutely no problems benchmarking it.
- Please note that benchmarking is a stress testing, so eveni if the benchmarking does not work on a ROM it does not mean it will brick your device someday.
- It seems that NETCF version has no impact on overall device performance (tested the ROM with either NETCF 2.0 or 3.5) compared to the ROM without NETCF or between the NETCF versions. That however might not be true for using programs that use these frameworks.

- Include more ROMs
- Include tabular comparison of ROMs features
- Include benchmarks from other programs
- Try to persuade mods to do this thread sticky....

Performance tweaks that will improve responsiveness of your ROM no matter which you choose (Kudos Cyphol):
1. Improve performance/response time:
- Start > Settings > Phone => Keypad = Off
- Start > Settings > Sounds & Notifications; Under Sound Tab => Disable/Untick Events (warings, system events) - this tweak will BRUTALLY increase the responsivenes of Start menu and Quick Menu 2.7 (because system will no more have to search for sound files in the ROM everytime you tap the screen)
2. Your Windows Mobile device is just like your Windows PC. So, soft reset it before going to sleep (or whenever appropriate) once a day to make it runs good at all time (because of the memory leak when you close the program not all the memory is restored - sof reset restores RAM lost due to Memory leak).
3. Make sure you install the today plugin apps such as Resco Today Plugin etc. on the internal/device memory. Some today plugin can be installed on the storage card but it'll slow down your system performance a bit.
4. Do not install too many apps on the internal/device memory. Leave as much free space as you can on it. Check whether it can be install on the storage card or not. Normally, don't let it become as low as 8MB free but 10MB is enough already.
5. Know what you're doing such as tampering your system registry. Make sure it can be done and you're doing it the right way. If not, then leave it as is.
6. Never hide the WirelessManager Tray Icon at the bottom.

7. Never let your device go to sleep by itself. Do it manually by pressing the power button everytime when you've finished using your device.
8. Make sure you shutdown the 'Activesync' completely after activesyncing your device with your PC. You can use task manager (X-Button), Magic Button etc or you can use memory applet in setting > System > memory; Running Programs

Including waiting on free slot on rapidshare it was cca one full day .

would a day of benchmarking suffice for conclusive results? although this would help would be FLASHERS to decide which ROM they can try first instead of starting another "WHICH IS THE BEST ROM" thread.

The thing is, SpB Benchmark is a program, as in lines of code. Hence, these numbers might not mean much for stability, but for speed, these numbers tell no lies.

As I have wrote before - benchmarks are just numbers. Actual experiences vary. Decisions about which ROM to use should not be solely based on benchmarks. Important factors are also support and or newer versions in the making, feel of the ROM (they do not look all the same) and for example bonus features also differ. Choose according to your needs.

some of the top scores were not in blue?? and ones that are tied should be in another color like yellow to show equality. i know you have spent lots of time on this and i don't mean to harp on you, so these are only suggestions.

Guess I missed something. Where did you find Farias super clean 3 rom? I only can find super clean v1.

I've asked myself this question over and over again........... Hahaha but now I see these results I can only say to the COOKIES that they've done a GREAT job for all of us.
That is what matters, our guys even listen and they will sometimes ad some special flavors into a ROM. This development and research goes so fast I even wonder if the developers of HTC come here to see what is going on over here!

Hi there - this really helps to decide which ROM one should take - but what is the cooked rom - I understood that I can no I have to choose whichsoftware I will install - and my understanding is that this takes even more time for the whole process - I liked it for example withe VP3 to simply follow the guide line in the forum and it was done ! Or is the installation provess with the cooked rom also simple ?

Cooked as opposed to straight from the manufacturer ("official").

This is one of the most usefull post's Ive seen in a long time, thanks for your hard work Oh and its crazy but "Faria's Super Clean 3 ROM" is still in the running after all this time! I think that says alot about Faria's work

In czech language, but main values are universal.

intereting and very useful. Whats more interesting is that I'm using the DOPOD rom as it seems to be the most stable for me. No BSOD or having to reboot all the time to get data connection working again.

That is what benchmarks can not show. And stability really is important "feature". I personally have never had SOD with any of the ROMs.

Great Work!! Thank you for quantify this. I've been using Satin medium for over a week now, very stable & not a single lockup with this ROM so far. And it is good to know I'm using one of the fastest around. Thanks again.

i think such a test says nothing. all results are nearly the same, and 119 frames instead of 111, i ont think that i can see that BIG impovement.

CleanROM like KORAND 3.1 (Prophet)

Hi guys,
I think some of the diamond user want to have a clean ROM similar to the KORAND 3.1 ROM (Prophet). Is there any rom cooker outside which can make this? I love the hard work from all cookers, at this moment I use the A.Z.T.O.R. V6 GER and I think at this moment it is the perfect rom for me, but I miss a clean rom, where I can add all the stuff which I want to have, by this ROM I can also made it, but I lost a lot of space and some program like QuickMenu have somte troubles with the TouchFLO, also when it is deactivated.

Yes without the HTC stuff, so tht you have an ROM similar to a blank windows mobile 6.1, but with your tweaks and drivers. I saw the ROM develpment WildBerry, I don´t read the hole thread, is it the inquired ROM?

check swtos clean or naked roms. they are unreal fast. or search.

WOW! Exactly what i need. I like the Sense Roms. But what i like about a rom is its speediness.
Take stylus out, Click SMS Tab! It shud take abt a second to load, and i would be writing an sms to my friend and press send.
Thats my routine. And with Senses, it takes about 2-3 seconds for the SMS to load even.
So thats why i am with the stock rom. Ofcoz it has junk apps. But its speedy like the way i want it.
So pls...release the WWE....will be your personal beta tester for WWE....

Our diamond was not born for Sense - that why I still love TF3D - it's too bad that there are not many theme/skin for it

i remember once trying to create a base ROM for elfin with my stock rom. and i had a tough time fixing a bluetooth bug...
the point is...take your time fixing the bugs...we will try to report whatever bugs we come across...and you can build on them...
and why i like this rom?? becoz i have been searching for local cabs even to install TF3D 2.1 in my diamond. but i know it will take a lot of space and memory if not properly built into the ROM...
so i want this rom to be improved with only stock rom...and pls dont try to include whatever is requested...there are lot of good custom roms even now...
but then again for whatever reason, those roms start getting bloated with user defined apps...
so in my opinion let this be a clean base rom at start...later you can start releasing premium or pro roms like one of the other users in this forum...

heyy i released the WWE version!!!tnx for the help!!!howewer i want to mantain this profile because diamond doesn't have hardware resources(i think that qualcomm cpu that is mount on diamond is not enough)to handle senseUI...maybe i have a idea....a wm 6.5 with touchflo3d....but wm 6.1 still remains!;-)

Hello. I've downloaded your ROM. Splendid work. I realy like this rom, it's fast, snappy and low on RAM consumtion. All in all a fantastic ROM.
One problem thow. Opera doesn't work. In TF3D internet tab, when i press the Opera link, the "HTC quetly brilliant" logo apears and after a few seconds the phone returns to TF3D as if i hadn't press Opera link.

Extremely fast

Finally the WWE and i flashed it...
and now report time...
- i just love the combination of TF3D 2.1 and a Stock ROM...
- Opera not opening
- TF3D is a bit sluggish...
- Most of all after a reset, it takes quite a while to boot
Don't consider these as minus points..Cos these are things you can improve on.
ABSOLUTELY FANTASTIC ROM!!!

...congratulation for your rom,have a little problem,when telephone ringing in my bag,the telephon in my hand suspend ringin,continuos also vibrating

1. Weather can not update my location - if I add my location as city - it works -so I can not see weather at calendar tab .
2. SMS delay - receive sms when phone is sleep, it doesn't notify .

Hello,
I tried 2 or 3 custom ROMs, but I realise that I don't use or need all the bonuses and I don't want my phone to be slow with things I don't use.
I only want to use phone and IGO8 GPS, that's all.
But I still want to have TF3D interface.
Is there any ROM exactly the same like the original one with old TouchFlo 3D and nothing more, apart from performance tweaks?
Am I missing something if I install an original ROM from htc website? or are there any better roms with only performance tweaks?
After installing cooked roms, can I install originall rom in the same way (mtty and diamond-image install from internal storage) ?

You should try Cloudyfa 1.3 Rom

you can try above mentioned ROM or search forum for AZTOR ROMs
and get any WM 6.1 AZTOR ROM

I installed Cloudy 1.3 and it is very snappy and just what I needed.
Also some improvements on the calling interface and dialer, it feels faster than the original GPS works very good. Memory load after install 47%, now after some aditions to programs pane and people - 50%. That's very good. Clean and fast ROM. I'm very happy with it. Thank you mates!

[Q] What's the best ROM for the blackstone?

I've seen a lot of roms developed in this forum. I've now the Energy Rom NLD. But I can't overclock my Touch HD with this ROM. So I'm looking for another ROM.. one that's stable, fast and can do many things (especially making pictures and video's in good quality)...
I hope someone can advise me a better ROM than the Energy Rom. Cause I've already seen that and I'm ready for something new....

One of notable ROM is Dutty v3.9 XT turbo.

The best ROM u can use is kwbr v 5.7 COM2 MANILA
Why?!
1. Because is with the Manila version and this make the whole interface super fast and stable.
2. Its 6.5 Based from COM2 witch is most stable bug free branch with super ram and battery consumation.
3. Because the ROM is tweaked and is even more faster and stable than a Stock ROM and this is Must have for EVERYDAY use if you want to enjoy your Blackstone.
4. You will never have any problem witch this ROM because just there is no SINGLE BUG
5. Our Blackstones are not made for 2.5 Sense or even 2.1 Sense because its to slow i play alot with HD2 and i know how the Sense must to look and response.. so maybe we never will catch the speed and the Sense to run on your Blackstones like is designed to be.. for this reason if you want to have a stable rom you just need TouchFLO Manila with core 6.5 this is the question WHY exactly this ROM.
Also if you prefer a 6.5.3 Based ROM there is exactly the same ROM v 5.7 COM3 Manila the diference is of the Branch Build i also test this ROM too and is super good but COM2 is the fastest and stable ONE till now no one beat it

The kwbr v 5.7 COM2 MANILA looks good for as far as I know. But since this is my first W.M. advanced phone, I'm not sure if it's wise to do this 'upgrade'.
If something happens with my phone, what then? Because these ROM's are more like hacks or am I wrong?
Is the phone really getting faster for example? And do I need to install all kinds of extra if I install this kwbr v 5.7 COM2 MANILA ROM?
I read the sticky's etc about flashing ROM's, but since English isn't my main language and I'm not yet that technical in all these terms, I'm not sure if it's wise for me to install a different ROM.

Ofcourse 1st now u have WM 6.1 and he have ugly Start Menu and appireance etc and if you install 6.5 will see the diference..
the Cooked ROM`s are not Hacks they are build from the latest avalible apps xip and etc packages.. for example when there is new Update for the Rhodium or HD2 Leo because they both use the same resolution and etc the cookers get the latest updates from there and make them for our Blackstone..
So when you are flashing a new ROM cooked you are going to have the latest updates published from Microsoft and in some cases HTC
I think that worth to Flash a new ROM and experiment and if you read evrything carefull you cannot damage your device..
The honest is that WM 6.1 maybe is the fastes one because of the poor graphic and appiriance but some of the cooked rom are faster than 6.5 because they are Cooked and because some unusual stuffs are removed from the ROM.. so when you flash a Cooked ROM you get only the things that are writen in the ROM thread..
So to understand me clear a Stock Official 6.5 ROM for example for HD2 and Cooke 6.5 ROM for HD2 the cooked one will BEAT in many aspects..
They are tweaked... optimized.. updatet and etc!
So the only reason why they are Cooked and we call not official is because the Cookers are just guys from here.. if they was working for Microsoft or HTC they will be releasing Official ROM`s

Did you upgrade radio? My Blackstone was overclocked to 750MHz on stock ROM (1.14) but when I flashed Barebone 2.6 (1.59) it couldn't go over 691MHz untill radio upgrade. Now it's stable at 729MHz.

kwbr 5.7 C2 Manila is the best ROM around for everyday use.
I have got my Blackstone from my uncle with this rom a year ago. Never had problems.
Last week I've experimented with some latest roms (Several Energy, and kwbrs with sense in them).
Sense is too slow/unresponsive on our machine. That was bugging me - since I know how fast it should be.
I'm coming back to No Sense ROM. Surely, I will miss the eye candy of Sense, and huge amount of quick links in Energy, but the performance and the battery life means more to me.
