It seems that my phone dosen`t have this function:When I put my phone near my face,the screen turns off and when take it away, the screen turns on.
ps:I really like the rom which I`m using,I do not want to change it.
So could somebody just tell me how to activate this function without changing rom.

Hi all,
Is there anyway to disable the proximity sensor while on the phone?
When my 4 year old daughter uses the phone, she doesn't always hold it on her ear and the screen will go on and off and her face ends up pressing buttons and hangs up on whomever she's talking to.
I tried pressing the power button to turn the screen off, but once you touch the proximity sensor the screeen comes back on.
I'm using the stock Sprint ROM. Please help this is the most annoying feature of this phone.

S2U2 can turn off the screen on a call, haven't tried it on the TP2/Tilt 2 yet though as I personally like the proximity sensor, although sometimes I find it doesn't work.
FYI, when I let my 4yo use my Tilt 2 it's in speakerphone..

I have a desire which has been dropped and the screen in the top left corner cracked. The proximity sensor is damaged, and I can test with various apps that this is indeed broken.
Now, when I get or make a call, the screen turns off, but since the proximity sensor isn't working, it's not turning on again when I move the phone away from my ear. So I wanted to know if anyone knew of a way of either completely disabling the feature, or a way of manually "waking" the screen again, by using any of the hard-buttons?

Sometimes it comes on, but mostly it doesn't... Regardless of which button I press...
I have read somwhere.. that by blowing some air over that part.. may clear any blocakge.. and proximity sensor works fine.. just try this .. use any vaccume cleaner.. and blow some air over sensor part..
And if that doesnt work.. search for this app in market "'Proximity Screen Off' ".. it might help you.
Yeah, I read that too... Tried blowing with compressed air even. The sensor is dead :/
Try this app.. it will switch your proximity sesor off after call ended.. its not mine just found. you might wanna try this

Hy, i have got the same problem !
Since earlier today I started experiencing problems on my HTC Desire with the proximity sensor. For those that does not know, the proximity sensor switches the screen off when you receive or make a call and places the phone against your ear. When the call is completed and you remove the phone from your ear, the screen become active again.
In my case the moment I make or receive a call, the screen gets disabled. I do not even have to put the phone against my ear. It also means that the touchscreen is disabled and all buttons are disabled which means I cannot end the call, switch on the speaker or enable the keypad. None of the buttons, even the power one works. When the call gets ended by the other party the the screen will be enabled again. The only way to get a working phone again when there is nobody on the other side to end the call is to remove the battery.
What I also find weird is where the sensor should be, top left next to the HTC logo, is nothing. Does not matter how I look at it, there is just the black strip.
I have searched to see if there is some app that can disable the proximity sensor since I do not really need it but have found nothing. So if anybody knows of an app that can disable the proximity sensor then I would appreciate the link. If you have any other suggestions, please comment below.

I just installed CM7on my phone and the power button works.
My first suggestion would have been to test if and how the proximity sensor works, for example with this app:

Otherwise, for just disabling the sensor there should be another app (which however requires root):
play. google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.hatcyl.android.Hardware_Disabler

A bad kernel flash can cause it... flash another kernel according to the android version and rom you are using.. If cm7 and android 2.3.7 then snq- 's kernel would be nice .. if on ICS then I recommend tiamat's kernel..

Hello everyone!
I have a question to all of you: Is there a way how to disable the proximity sensor, during a call at least? My phone fell on the ground, the glass was broken so I took it for the change, they changed it, but there is some miniature tiny extra small and tight leak, trough which I can see the display. Since then, my proximity acts weird, and during last days happened this: During a call, the screen goes off as usual, but I cannot turn it on. It will just blick for a split second and get back to off, so the person must hang up, otherwise I would need to turn the phone off.
If is there some easy and non destructive (no dufficult software programming and re-writing some files in the system), I would really appreciate your help.

Would love to find a way to disable this as well. My case causes the sensor to be active constantly. Don't want to switch cases just figure a way to do away with it.

There's a way to check if it's malfunctioning. Start your phone, and head to the dialer, and type *#0*#, and a screen should come up with all sorts of buttons on it. Tap "Sensor" in the middle, and you should have a screen with a spinny thing. If you hold your hand near the proximity sensor, the white background should turn green and your phone should vibrate. If it doesn't do that, your sensor may be malfunctioning. To exit it, double-tap the back button until it exits.

If he reflaah stock and it doesnt solve it cant be a 'rom' problem
