Hi there,
I've developed and app under VS 2008, VB.Net and CF 3.5 SP1, targeted to 2003SE.
So far so good, as it has been tested in many PDA and Phones and not a single problem, except that on an Samsung OMNIA 2 running WM 6.5, some fields are rendered white on white!
Let me explain better, some forms contains a grid, where some cells are white on white and JUST ONE is black on white!
Same happens with textboxes, comboboxes, etc
In short, happens in some places while not in others.
Any ideas of what this is happening?
It's a general problem this rendering issue?
Honestly, don't have a clue of the possible reason
Any help is greatly appreciated!
Thanks in advance!

Samsung have configured a custom Windows theme on the Omnia II with the colors inverted. You can try to just change the Windows theme and revert to default color scheme. More professional sollution: draw your controls by yourself to make them always appear the same no matter what theme is selected. But I'm not familar with VB so I can't tell how to....
If RAMMANN is right, change the ForeColor property of the grid away from 'WindowText' to a specific custom value.
WindowText is the value cascaded down from the overlying theme.
A custom value will override it.

Does anybody know of a way of changing, or improving those standard yucky boring white icons with something a bit more colourful and contrasting.
It was my understanding that this is M$ guidelines, but didnt think this forum was to concerned with that.
For example, I have seen roms with a nice MMS download icon, rather than the boring white ones.
Just wondering if this was a project that anybody has already undertaken, modified, improved or otherwise. I understand it isnt easy, due to animations etc, but there are some real legends here that I would have thought may have done it.
The main ones would be:
1. Phone missed call
2. Email
3. SMS
4. MMS
5. Clock
6. Battery
7. The "multiple" notifications
8. Bluetooth connected
9. Wireless stereo icons
They are all yucky, boring and thought maybe, somebody may have already improved them.
Sorry, if it isnt really WM6 based, but this is my favourite forum, with unsurpassed godliness in it.
It would in reality affect all WM5 and WM6 platforms across all forums.
Hey All!
Have used search many many times, and tried searching Google, but can't find any result!!!
I have tried many Shell UI programs like ThrottleLauncher, Wisbar Advance, PointUI and SPB MobileShell. Of all these, SPB seems the most polished.
Whilst these apps manage to hide the ancientness that is WindowsMobile 6.1, it doesn't allow you to skin the scrollbars, buttons or dropdown menus. Can anyone think of a way to do this? Maybe something that does the same job as PalmRevolt does on Palm OS?
Surely it'd be a case of finding a program that can replace some icons / settings in the Windows Directory...
I'm keeping SPB Mobileshell too.. Its just that I'm resigning to the fact that I'll be stuck with WinMo6.1 on my Palm Treo Pro for quite some time!
Thanks all!
I'm still going to use SPB, but thought this woud

Using a resource editor, it is possible to skin almost everything. It's just a bunch of dlls, exes and registry entries. I use PE Explorer and it's great and very powerful, but it does cost quite a bit of money..

No unfortunately its not possible. At most you can alter themes, as I am sure you already know. The only other thing you can do is change the size of the scroll bars in the registry, and if you set their width to 0, they disappear... A setting like 2, makes them thin enough that they indicate where you are, but can't really be used.
Apart from that, you already have the right idea with SPB, Point UI, etc. You may want to know that PointUI hides more of the oem interface with the pay version and will be adding a dialer among other things in the next update. You did not mention Manilla... I don't use it b/c I just don't have the time to deal with new ROM bugs, but nonetheless it does the best the best job at hiding winmo, and has the most skinned elements...
EDIT: Just read the above post... I guess it is possible.
OK, decided to add some addtional stuff
Altering WM menu system and Dialogs
Try this program
FingerSuite
or
Try the extracted HTC Menu app
or
Edit the Menu Font size registry key for a less pretty effect, but it means one less program to install.
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\system\gwe\menu\popfnt
and change the value for the "Ht" entry to "1000" decimal (from 1200).
play around with 800, 900, and 1000 and see which suits your personal preference
Modifying Scroll Bars
Change the thickness of scrollbars
To change the thickness of the scrollbars at the right/bottom of documents larger than the screen, adjust...
For the horizontal (bottom) scrollbar:
HKLM\System\GWE\cyHScr = 9 (DWORD decimal)
For the vertical (right) scrollbar:
HKLM\System\GWE\cxVScr = 9 (DWORD decimal)
The default thickness is 13. You can set the value to anything you may like
Change the length of scrollbar arrow buttons
To go with changing the thickness of the scrollbars, you may wish to change the length of the scrollbar arrow buttons...
For the horizontal (bottom) scrollbar arrows:
HKLM\System\GWE\cyVScr = 0 (DWORD decimal)
For the vertical (right) scrollbar:
HKLM\System\GWE\cxHScr = 0 (DWORD decimal)
The default length is 13. You can set the value to pretty much anything you like
Found another useful app for handling scroll bar color, background colors ect.

Further down in that thread someone gives this link which seems usefulhttp://mobile-sg.com/software/?platform=ppc
Hmm, real pity nothing can be done to skin those ugly looking scrollbars, eventhough SPB or any other software will beautify the look as well as experience of using the device, the scrollbars will still leave a signature stating "I am the ugly looking WM 6.1"
I just recently flashed SNN Diamond on my Wizard and I'm loving it so far but I do have one caveat. When I put a customized background on my today/home, the drop-down start menu adopts the same image as its background. I don't want my drop-down start menu to have a background image, I'd prefer it to be a plain color. How do I change it? You would think that this is a simple thing to do but I have been at it for a day, still no luck. Any ideas guys?
Can anyone tell me how to change the highlight colours on winmo 6.5?
The ones for things like contacts, sms, email, even the load bar etc.
I would have thought there would be a simple application for custom themes but apparently not, Microsoft seem to have moved theirs or taken it down too.
Any help would be much appreciated.
Semi solution
I found this
UI Tweeker
http://handheld.softpedia.com/get/Tweaks/UI-Tweaker-16493.shtml
It claims to work only for winmo 5 but it does work up to 6.5
You can use a regedit too to get most colours changed;-
HKLM\SYSTEM\GWE\SYSCOLOR is where the main "highlight bar" is held, the horrible green crap..
A lot of the "Today Screen" colours are held here;-
HKLM\SOFTWARE\MICROSOFT\COLOR
39 = Start Menu Text
4 = Today Colour - If you only used the default M$ Today and not TouchFlo.
34 = The Green used in highlights, but the GWE overrides this setting afaik.
I use Win6.1 rather than 6.5 but I'd say the basics stay the same'ish tbh, if your after changing colours while using Manila then you'll need to alter the correct files to change their colour schemes.
Hello everyone, I am an Italian partially sighted, and then I have big problems of view. I note with regret that Android is very configurable, but with more difficulty.
I have a HTC Desire with root privileges.
I would simply like to change most of the interface, not pleasure, but to use it, for example, I have to change anything that has white background with black background and then put white text, here's a list:
- Change backgrounds with blacks and whites to white text (it is called high-contrast)
- Change buttons with clear background and insert new ones with black background and white text
- A little larger all the characters
- Enlarge icons
- Have all black keyboard with white keys
- Have different software with a black background and white text
How do you see there.
I am a programmer and I also know Java and I have the android SDK installed, the only lacks experience in this system since I got two days ago.
I installed without success, Open Home, in the sense that I did not get good results.
Can you help?
I am willing to install something already done or create something from scratch I just do not know where to start, I know that Android is based on the topics of XML, but I do not know where in the system, such as retrieve and re-enter .
Excuse me for my bad english
Thank you all.
Ale
I would be interested in the results that could be achieved by one of the active themers around here, in response to OP's request.
I do not have the difficulties that OP does with his vision, but I think that black everywhere with white text is far more attractive. I'd be especially interested in a mod for the GMail app, Market, People, etc.
I hope someone can help out so the OP can really get some use out of his phone
Ok. So I know there's a few ways to mess with our colors on our 7.5 devices. We have the advanced config tool, to change the overall accent colors, and we have registry editors to go more into details. I may be mistaken here, but I don't believe anyone has made an app (similar to advanced config tools) where you can pick from pre-loaded fully customized themes. I think this would really be great, especially for those of us who don't want to mess with reg editing or who can't seem to come up with good themes.
Just as a quick example... I downloaded the ACtool because I really wanted black tiles. Looks really cool.. until I realized there were texts and other things also black, so it makes many things unusable. I'm know you could fix this with registry editing, and it would be great if someone could make some of these pre-loaded with an app.
Or if there's a reason this hasn't been done yet... how about we use this thread to post some of our favorite color codes for reg editing to make it easier to try out different themes?

Nice blue colour that really pops on my focus. Still allows for a noticeable difference in incoming and outgoing messages, contrasts well with the black background.
I meant more of full themes, like where people have done black tiles with blue backgrounds, changed texts to red.. etc. Like fully changing everything.
But hey if you have suggestions for accent colors that's appreciated as well, I'll give that one a shot.
I agree this would be very cool. I think one issue is that not all devices are equal in their drivers, and access to the registry. So developers are fighting with the basics still (I could be wrong here).
To add to your request though, I would love to see the abilty to overlay an image or texture on top of the tiles. Right now, only solid colors are allowable for tiles...hopefully some smart devs can come up with a way to allow more. How cool would it be to have brushed metal tiles, or some other gradient???
If those wp8 concept pics on 1800pocketpc could be brought to reality that would really change the game.
