I cant make up my mind. Is there any issues I should know about? Any help would be appreciated.
Rhodium if you prefer to have the best hardware keyboard device to this date
And don´t forget to vote!
QWERTY all the way
If you are into typing alot (messaging, emailing, ... etc) than forget about full touch devices, .. QWERTY is the way to go, .. IMO touch screen texting would NEVER replace full QWERTY keyboard no matter how good it was
having that said, .. have you checked OmniaPro? .. It has QWERTY + AMOLED Screen + 800MHz Process and it is cheaper that Rhodium (Tilt 2) not sure if it comes to AT&T though
here is a link for comparison
http://wmpoweruser.com/?p=5024
I would say go with the Tilt2. If you don't want to use the physical keyboard, you can always use the on screen one. That way you are not stuck with only the on screen one. (Personally, I like options.)
I used to have the first Tilt (it was my first phone with a physical keyboard). I don't think I will ever own another phone without one. However, I do find myself using the on screen keyboard every now and then on my Tilt2.
i love the tilt 2. The only thing that really bugs me about it is the weight and the size. Other than that, it's a great device.
I think these are the question you have to ask yourself:
1-do you type a lot, and do not mind the weight and size. if so, go with tilt 2. (additional benefit of titlt 2 is the larger screen size which is much easier to use when you use the finger and brwose web).
2-do you want a small and portable device, if so, get pure.
Tilt 2.....
I learned how to type really fast using the iPhone, but for some reason the HTC keyboard doesn't 'catch up' to space bar button presses that well. I have to wait for the space to add in and the auto word correction options to go away and it slows me down.
I heavily considered the Pure, but I went with the Tilt 2 because of the screen. The device itself isn't that thick so if you wanted to go all touch screen you won't really feel like you have a needlessly large device in your hand. The Pure's screen is tiny in comparison to the iPhone and the Tilt 2's screen. At least for me. And I don't take many pictures, but without a reliable flash, 3MP and 5MP really don't make much of a difference.
I'd go with the Tilt 2 and find a good third party software keyboard. You won't be disappointed with the slide out keyboard should you decide to use it.
Tilt2 for the screen and I like the face down speakerphone. I also like the heavy feel of it. The Pure just feels so cheap to me in comparison.
I have the Tilt 2 as I wanted the hardware KB. However, after installing Swype, I am finding myself using it less and less.
The screen is also a bit larger in the Tilt 2
I have used both and I must say the larger screen on the tilt2 is more useful than I thought
imo if you're a big texter get the tilt2...whether you're using the hardware or the on screen keyboard, its just a lot easier on tilt2
but if you like to take pictures with your phone get the pure...I found that besides the difference in resolution, the pure takes way better pictures...theres no match (pictures taken by the pure are clear and have nice colors...the camera on the tilt2, on the other hand, is just so bad that its impossible to not take a noisy picture)
I tried the Pure for a few weeks. It is nice but I did not like the small keyboard much. Most keys were ok but the side keys for me were hard to get. e.g. press the one key and you get the two key, etc.
One other thing that bugged me was the vibration of the camera when I sat it down. Or sometimes when I tapped it in my hands. I took it back and looked at a new one and it did the same thing. No biggy.
I did return it though. They took it back without any questions.
My store was Radio Shack. $29.95 w/2 year renewal.
AT&T store 149.99.
I have ordered a Tilt 2. After testing it out at the AT&T($250 before $50 rebate) store it felt nice.
I ordered a refurb through Amazon for $50 and renewed 2 year contract. The new one was $174.
If ordered new through Amazon for $99 with a new 2 year contract.
I just hope the refurb is good. I am poor .

Hi,
i have a prop my provider had change my xperia due to 4 cracks in a half year against the Touch pro 2. The action needs 4 weeks in between i bought the touch pro and get lucky with it. I had decide to put the rhodium on ebay when it comes.
Now i have the device 3 days and i can't decide anymore which of the Phones get back
The Pro is smaller and better to handle but the Pro 2 looks and feels much more better for quality reasons.
When i hold the Raphael in my Hands it feels loose and the back cover makes noises.
Is here anybody with both devices and can give his Experience with the quality of both devices
Thanks a lot and sorry for my bad english
I have both phones. Hand down for the TP2 for these reasons.
1) Better build quality. No wobbly screen what so ever. (At least on mine.)
2) Just an over all build quality of the whole device itself. (Accept battery cover)
3) The screen is enormous compared to TP1.
4) Keyboard on the Rhoduim is the best I have ever used on any handheld device.
5) TF3dD is much more responsive and no lagging what so ever.
6) The Rhoduim just is much more faster, more responsive and quicker on every aspect of the device.
7) Very finger friendly. You don't need to use the stylus like you do on the TP1. I only use it when using file explorer.
I could keep going on, but I just wanted to list some of the most noticeable differences from the two. In conclusion the Touch Pro 2 looks a whole lot better and feels a whole lot better. When you hold the Rhoduim in your hands you can feel it is very well made. I am very pleased with my purchase. Hope this helps.
I also have one Touch Pro and one Touch Pro2, and i choose Touch Pro2 without any doubt, or you might regret it someday.

Thanks for your feedback, i'm a little bit in sorrow with the chrom frame at the xperia it starts flaking and becomes cracks.
And the hole device was creaking after short time.

About the chrome sides. It looks and feels like it won't be a problem, but I could be wrong. I installed the Zagg full body protector which covers the chrome, at least 90% of it. So maybe this will help with any chrome flaking that may occur.
I've the Touch Pro and sold it off for the Touch Pro 2. Am not regretting it at all... I totally forgotten about me owned a Touch Pro before, until you posted the topic about it... It's like driven a BMW before and now a Ferrari That's the feeling of having the Touch Pro 2.
I would keep the Touch Pro 2. The build quality on the Touch Pro in my experiences is not up to par with other HTC devices. My original FUZE (AT&T Touch Pro) DPAD went bad. The capacitive sensors just stop working correctly which makes it impossible to use any buttons except up and down. My replacement (refurb) is developing this same issue.

Same here; my dog ate the TP1. Waited for the TP2 to be available and no regrets for waiting and having to use a Touch Dual for a couple of months...

Now is the fu...... Pro 2 on the Way to o2.

Just wanted to say thanks!
This helped me in my decision to go after the Rhodium after all (even though I like the design of the Raphael much more).
Hi all,
I've been using a HTC Titan for the past 1.5 years and I'm going to need to get something new. The Titan is alright, but I've gone through 3 units because of keyboard problems and wifi issues. This whole process has left me somewhat disallusioned with HTC.
The Rhodium looks awesome and I know its relatively new, but will I be dissapointed if I give HTC another shot? Anyone made this jump as well? I'm hoping 2.5 generations will have made a huge difference.

I have...
And its defo a step up...Major step infact...
My TyTn II was so buggy now thinking about it...the Rhodium is a ot more smooth, however as usual WM has bugs.
I have also made the jump from Titan to Rhodium. I just couldn't stand the hardware issues anymore.
I must say I miss the large selection of buttons you had with the Titan and though it was a touch screen I think the interface for me was only like half touch. With the Rhodium its full touch for just about everything but TF3D makes up for Windows short falls and I am all but used to the interface after a week. Also if you are big into games on your Titan you may find that several do not work on the Rhodium as the screen res and lack of D button prevent them from playing.
Another issue for me was the soft reset being under the cover because no matter what I was soft resetting at least once a day with Titan. With the Rhodium I am running "Power Options" for resetting and shutdown and I have only fully locked up once where I had to remove the cover and hit the button.
Overall I think it was a good switch. The keyboard and HUGE touch screen along with the snappiness more than make up for lack of buttons. Hope this helps!
Is the extra weight easy to get used to?
I would say yes. I like a heavy phone just because I think it feels like a higher quality device and a lot more solid but thats just me. I like heavy pens too which may be for the same reason.
I think the better build quality over the Titan helps getting used to the weight. I also think it feels a little better in your hand than the Titan at least the Sprint one does as it has like a rubbery feeling battery plate and the rounded edges are wonderful. It appears much thinner to me.
Are you on Sprint or another carrier?
I had a titan for a while, I would've been happy if I had one that was brand new, had no problems and was faster.
That's EXACTLY what the TP2 is, it's a titan on steroids. It does and has everything that I wanted more out of my titan.
More power, longer battery life, bigger screen, 3.5mm jack (well if your CDMA), better keyboard (titan was pretty damn good, this one is better), tilt function.
I liked playing games on my titan, so it's a bit more difficult on the TP2, but to me the phone makes up for the lack of D-pad, I wouldn't give up this phone for a lesser with a D-pad.
I debated picking up a new/slightly used touch pro 1 to replace my titan, since I figured I could get one cheap since the TP2 was here. Then maybe down the road, replace it with the TP2 once the price drops or they become replacements for broken TP1s.
Now that I have the TP2, I wouldn't return it on the "return policy" to get a cheaper TP1 (which seem to have a few issues themselves). My buddy that owns a TP1 agreed, "If I had that phone (TP2), I wouldn't return it for a TP1"
I'm with Telus in Canada so I have the ole cdma version.
The one thing I think will be awesome is that itll be so much easier pressing the "x" on the screen because of the smoothed edges. I always found the screen edge on the titan to be really annoying. Of course, win 6.5 will supposedly fix this by moving the "x"

Its definitely way easier and I don't know that the change in WM6.5 will even matter to me since I no longer have issues pressing the "X".
The Titan was very annoying with the screen being in a giant crater.
The Nintendo DSi is equipped with a built-in stylus which makes it possible to play games and interact with the 3.25 inch screen in a way not possible just using fingers and is accepted as a normal. However, when a stylus is added to a smart phone it is regarded as a backward step. Perhaps this attitude will change if the stylus becomes more common on smart phones.
did you see the new Galaxy Notes
it brought back the stylus
^^^ yep. The reason styluses were big a while back was 2 fold. 1) the touch screens were resistive touch technology and could utilize a stylus in the first place and 2) the physical screen sizes and software of yesterday didn't allow you to be able to use your fingers to do everything. Typing on a 3 inch screen running Winmo 6.5 wasn't exactly easy as pie.
Not sure how the Note is incorporating the stylus into their capacitive technology, but I've seen it in action and it's pretty cool.
Sent from my HTC Sensation Z710e using XDA App
Not sure about now, but I'm pretty sure that the DS still uses a resistive touch screen. May not be true now, but in my past experiences, I remember it being kinda hard to use your finger on the DS - you really had to tap it.
The Note uses a stylus as a drawing tool and to take notes, use swype, etc. Looks pretty bad*ss if you ask me. I love the size of the screen. (lol)
EDIT: With the screen sizes manufactures are shelling out now, using a stylus will probably be more difficult and time consuming than just using your finger. Think about it. Moving a 2 cm point across a 5" screen doesn't sound ideal.
DS is resistive. I think stylus' are going to be out soon, with capacitative. Who hasn't lost a stylus before anyway. lol
Stylus are out for the devices, I currently have 2. I purchased mine in Canada... which means they are likely available in etheopia at this point....
My first one I found was in with IPad accessories, my second was with the display of tablets at Staples as well as best buy it was a full sized capacitive for 29$. The first was a stubby one for 12$ cdn. I've had them for 3 months.
Hope this helps

Many people want a fine-tipped stylus to increase the usefulness of their smart phone. There are plenty of smart phones without a stylus to choose from without being patronizing towards those who want one.
I dont mind stylyses they have their uses, especially for note pad type apps. To bad I loose them all the time.
Stylus is good to use with smartphones, because sometimes fingers are too big to operate on the screen. But the weakness of stylus is that it's too easy to be lost. And it's not so convenient to use on the go. If manufactures can find a way to fix this problem, I think it would be more popular.
UK Got this, for the price, absolutely fantastic £25
Just encase anyone has been thinking about a keyboard.
http://www.amazon.co.uk/Perixx-PERI...W7E0/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1355469790&sr=8-1
A bit of remapping to do, but that was only to get extra functionality from the keyboard, like brightness control keys, a key to focus on recent apps etc.
Good quality believe it or not, no rattles feels solid, easy to set up.
And comes in whit and black (804i/804) flavours, got the white one as note is white
Enjoy

Just recd one myself. How do I go about remapping keys?
I do tend to use null keyboard when I've got one attached but then £ signs can't be typed without switching back ..
Do you have the some problem or have you found a workaround ?

Hi,
Take a look here, this is where I got up to speed with mapping.
http://www.mobileread.com/forums/showthread.php?t=159538
What do u think of the keyboard?
MJ-12
I have ordered the Motorola keyboard and mouse instead that already has all the necessary Android keys. Unfortunately I am still waiting for it since the order 16 days later is still missing.
Interested to know why you want a keyboard?
I use my S-pen and write my input. My previous tablet was a TF101 with dock, so I had to type. The Note 10.1 and written input is so much quicker and more productive,

Very good , like it a lot. I think the only key i'd like to have is the running apps one, everything else is great and you couldn't get a better colour match for out notes !
Cool, $25 bluetooth keyboard.
Ordered one in USA, will write a review soon.
Review:
So it's been a few days since I got the keyboard and I am very impressed what $25 brings.
It's a very comfortable and responsive. Although I prefer taking notes using the s-pen. If I need to type something up, that's more then 2 senteces, this keyboard comes in handy.
Typing is great; like on a good netbook keyboard. I type very quickly and have not seen any stuck keys or other mishaps so far.
-Shift and backspace don't work at the same time, but why would you need it?
Will add more info on battery life when I get a chance to use it some more.
The price/quality is A+ in my book.

no its not the same one. sorry i didnt get a notification that you had replied sorry. my next pay ill probably pick one up and put up a review of it for people on here.
I'm currently using a modified one from Logitech, but I'd prefer to try a new one to couple it with my linux use: http://forum.xda-developers.com/gal...-to-install-gnu-linux-samsung-galaxy-t3239809 (Lollipop support's incoming in a few hours)
So any kind of user (or even professional) review would be welcome.
i just got the keyboard in the very first post. I like it alot. the trackpad works nicely, but takes a very light touch to click. that hasn't caused and issues, I'm just used to tapping my laptop trackpad really hard.
it holds the Note very securely, which I like, but you can't charge it without taking it off the keyboard which I don't like. You could flip it around and put the tablet on upside down, but then you can't access the power and volume keys. but anyway, the keys are comfortable and I can type on it as fast as I can on any other keyboard. it's also substantial, a little heavy and solid. I like that.
I wish it had a "return to previous screen" to " button though. and I wish the '"sleep" button wasn't just above the back button. I've hit that a couple times which is irritating. Just something to get used to though. It does a very good job of making the Note into a little laptop. I paid around $40 on ebay and think it was worth it.
Hi thanks for your short review!
If you don't mind, I'd have a few extra questions:
1) How easy/hard is it to remove the tablet from the keyboard/case? Is it tight enough so it won't accidentally fall out if you hold it by the keyboard part when it's closed?
2) Sort of connected to the previous question, is it possible to use the tablet/keyboard combination in as a proper laptop, i.e. on your lap somewhat comfortably?
The other two questions concern the usability of keys, in case you happen to know.
3) Is there any key that can be used for AltGr? I've got a few keys in my keyboard layout that I have to access using this key. I was wondering if the key between Alt and Space - it's some Apple symbol, isn't it? - could function as AltGr? (just for reference, the pictures I'm looking at are here: http://www.ebay.com/itm/161704633039)
4) Do you happen to know, if there's a way of inputting F-keys, e.g. using Fn + number keys? This might only make sense for people who are using Linux on their tablet, but could make quite a difference in terms of how useful the keyboard is (depending on how much you use them).
5) Did I see correctly that there's a forward delete button above backspace (probably accessible in comination with Fn)?
addthere is a Fn key that you can use in combination with the number keys like the function keys on a full keyboard. I don't use them though, so I don't know alot about how they work or differ from a full keyboard. I see the other key you mention, but I don't know if or how you can remap it. Out of the box, it is a toggle for a google search bar.
I like the layout of the keys, it's pretty traditional, however, a big frustration has been that the "back" key is small and right below a "sleep" key. I hit the sleep all the time when I want back, and that's been irritating. But the more I use it, the better I get at hitting back when I want to intsead of sleep. As far as the feel and usability of the keys, I love it. I can keyboard as fast (as long as I don't hit the damn sleep key) on this little board as well as I can on my work laptop.
the track pad works really well, when I remember it's there I'm making the transition from touching the screen all the time to using the trackpad and I like it. I did have to adjust my thumbs a bit to keep from accidentally brushing it. However, there isn't a scroll function, so you still have to scroll by touching the screen.
Fitting the tablet onto the board is pretty tight, but it is getting easier as I use it (I've had the keyboard for about 3 weeks and use it everyday) It is VERY secure though and truly feels like a little laptop. No danger of the Note coming off accidentally. You have to flip the Note upside down to charge it while it's mounted on the keyboard and I worried a little about the pressure on the camera, but so far that doesn't seem to be a problem.
The keyboard is on the heavier side and works excellently on a desk or other hard surface. but on a lap or soft surface like a couch, the Note is still a little top heavy. I use it on the couch in front of the TV all the time at home though and haven't found this to be too much of a problem....but for actually on your lap, it doesn't work very well, at least for me.
Time will tell how well the hinge holds up. It seems relatively sturdy and stable, but it seems like the weak spot to me. So far it's holding up nicely, but in a year or so? We'll just have to see.
I hope that helps a little. Overall, I'm glad I got this keyboard and use it all this the time. My Note lives in it.
Since it came from China, it took a long time to get here, probably 3 or 4 weeks from when I bought on eBay, but well within the timeframe the vendor said.
---------- Post added at 11:47 AM ---------- Previous post was at 11:31 AM ----------
I just thought I'd try using this keyboard on my lap again, and actually, it's not too bad. I find I kind of rest the heel of my left hand to keep it upright and I can type quite comfortably. I guess it really makes a difference in how you sit and/or how big your lap is!
I do have another keyboard that I've used for a while, I also got on eBay. It is much lighter, but with no hinge. The note just sits in a slot. It works fine, but I wanted to try this one for the more secure mating of the two devices. This one really fills the bill in that regard, so I prefer it, even though the other keyboard had an Android key for "back" in addition to a true back/delete key. I miss that Android back key.
also, just to add, I have a glass screen protector on my Note...this may change the tight fit and also the protection. I do get marks on the screen (protector) from inserting and de-serting the Note. so far, they have not been scratches, but come off with some vigorous wiping with a cloth.
I have found this one while searching. Though it looks like a pretty cool accesssory, but only real world testing can prove that.

Thanks a lot, that was quite helpful in terms of usability! Sounds like a versatile device, but I get the impression that for my use case it might miss some keys, at least/especially if I want to keep working with DE keyboard layout.
For people who can/want to deal with a German keyboard, this one seems to be pretty good judging by the reviews:
http://www.amazon.de/gp/product/B00..._rd_t=36701&pf_rd_p=585296387&pf_rd_i=desktop
Still no hinge, but they claim that it is usable on the lap. They might offer English versions on Amazon UK/US as well in case anyone's interested (vaguely remember seeing something like that).
I'm considering to try fixing together something myself with a simple case, some laptop hinges and a bluetooth keyboard. Don't know if I'll be able to build anything useful and not abhorrently disfunctional, or if/when I'll ever find the time...
