Hi gurus,
I have tried several official rom and I would like to know on how to I release the ULDR as Bepe had mentioned in his rom thread on the official roms.
i have just learn cooking and have managed to alter offical roms to my likings. but the storage space is just not enough on the official roms, even after cooking.
thus, can any kind chefs share with me on how to release more storage while cooking. I believe this would be relatively useful for all newbie cookers.
Thanks a million!

i am using the diamond kitchen posted in this forum.
kind of straight forward, like pressing 1 or 2 to cook or rebuild roms
You have to break it into steps, and stop after XIP merge with OS (just before buildOS)
This is where you can add, remove anything. Packages, etc.
i have managed to cook up a good storage space rom with the advice from the seniors here as well as the wikis.
but now i have another problem.
i have managed to turn one of the latest official WWE rom into Sim. Chinese. although, i have replaced all the wince.nls in the WWE rom to the asian WWE, but after cooking and flashing, it does not shows the chinese regions.
i have tried several ways but still couldnt find a way to solve this.
for replacing wince.nls in roms, is there areas which i need to look at, or files i need to replace?
btw, the cook WWE rom is entirely in chinese now on my device, the only left unsolve is the wince.nls.
one side track question, how do i disable error reporting? every now and then i received a pop up screen saying that certain task has caused an error ...
can anyone kindly help?
Ruff, if ever there's anything you don't know how to do with tools, just do it on your handset, dump and rebuild the rom. As simple as that.
So just disable the error rep and happy dumping.
^.^
i almost give up here.
i have replace the default.hv and user.hv with the one found in the CHT officlal rom but still, my Cooked WWE rom is still unable to initialise the asian wince.nls ...
what am i missing here?
can any kind soul shed some light?
2nd issue> connectionsetup keep returning an error in the first boot. how do i stop this?
hi all,
thanks for everything.
i just found out why the wince.nls is not used correctly.
after replacing the os.nb in the ROM\ folder with the os.nb from the offical chs rom, it works.
although, i dun understand why but it works now. chinese region is selectable.
i also found that the temp\dump_XIP is practically useless, as the kitchen build os without using it at all ...
guess i still need to figure out more stuff manually and stop using the CMD script. it may be the CMD scripts that is set to extract xip from os.nb when cooking rom. thus, rendering the dump_xip not being used.
thanks. if there is any advice for me, please kindly let me know.
i love XDA and thank you JugglerLKR so much for the kitchen.
Hi ruffruff,
Could you please give me any advice on how to change the OS language ? I had some translation experience on the htc wizard but it was a nightmare. I see it seem easier on diamond roms. It would be great If I could change some of the "plates" cooked on here in Italian. I really hate having the phone in wwe.

hi smogdragon,
i believe you already have a kitchen at hand.
if so, you will need to find a italian rom first and dump the rom. after which, save the dump. then find the WWE rom which you like and wish to change it to italian. dump the WWE rom and replace all the 0409 packages and files to your italian packages and files which you have dump earlier.
cook the rom and flash.
finally, i have everything working out nicely.
ram available after first boot is still not as much as the senior cookers here.
i have 2 requests and hope that some kind soul or seniors can help me with:
1) Can anyone release to me the correct backward compatible netcf3.5 for rom cooking?
2) Can anyone release to me the 20270 XIP and teach me how to port it to my cook rom?
thanks and hope that some kind soul can assist me.
I see Nothing is changed. DO you replace all the files by hand ? Or have some kind of automated procedure ? The problem for me is I've not seen any .93 build in italian yet so I don't know where to find the files without messing the build.

u dun really need the exact build for the italians mui files.
just find an available italian rom and extract all the mui files out.
in english rom, replace those 0409 folders and files with your MUI files by HAND. hehe, no pain no gain ...
do more reading on the forum. i am no expert. like you, i am also a newbie/noob in rom cooking. just trial and error. i too need guidance from the expert but in the meantime, when they are not responding, you have to DIY...
cheers

Hi,
I'm trying to cook my own rom to convert the official Russian rom into english.
I've a quick question about the replacing the 0409 folder.
I'm going to be going from 0419 folders (russian) to 0409 (english), do I delete the 0419 directories and just add in the 0409 ones, or do I have to delete the 0419 folders and then rename the 0409 to 0419.
I'm guessing just delete the 0419 ones and stick in the 0409 instead, but want to make sure.
Is there anything else I need to do. I guess I'm looking for all the 0419 folders in the \OEM and \SYS directories?
Does anyone know if this will get around the region lock on a Russian Diamond?
Plus is there anything else I will need to do?
Do I have to do anything with XIP, that's something I'm really not sure about?
Cheer
Andrew
Hi all
I was looking for the way to cook my own ROM. There is a heaps of info for a Kiser but not a Diamond. I had decided to start a thread that will show and explain in plain language how to do it on the Diamond. The aim is to have perfectly clean ROM without any unwanted applications or tweaks. The ROM will only contain bare minimum to run PDA. Everything else can be installed with cab files. Also registry tweaks can be applied after installation.
What is more important I want this thread to be a simple to follow guide to cook a ROM so everyone can make one for themself. Since I’m not an expert I welcome any help from anyone.
I had managed to cook my 1st ROM. I had removed some applications without modifying anything else.
I have tested it and it worked ok. However you perform it on your own risk and I take no responsibility if you stuff it up. Do not remove everything at once. Remove 2-3 application and see if it works. If yyou unsure just leave it alone. When you are confident you can remove the rest of apps. Also if you want to remove Opera and TouchFlo you need to change a setup files so lets leave it for now.
You need a Kitchen and the ROM file.
Video Tutorial (rigt click and Save target as)
Extract kitchen files directly to C drive (not to desktop as shown on the screen shot)
IMAGE
Extract rom files into BaseROM folder in the kitchen.
IMAGE
Open !BEGIN and choose option 1
IMAGE
Just follow the prompts and press ENTER when asked. When you get to screen below just wait till asked to press ENTER again. This might take a while.
IMAGE
When you arrive to this screen
IMAGE
your rom preparations are complete.Hit the ENTER to close window.
Go to Kitchen folder and you notice that rom files and packages are extracted.
IMAGE
To remove unwanted applications from rom look into OEM and SYS folders. You need to delete all folders related to paticular application. (create separate folder and move all packages there instead deleting. Later on you can convert them to .cab files and install them if needed)
IMAGE
If you have some cab files and would like to add them into the rom you will need THIS application. Just start it, make sure that Remodule option is deselected, open cab file and program will create new folder containig packagage file. Make shure that PACKAGE_Diamond_ is in front of the filename. For example if you converted TomTom cab you should rename it to PACKAGE_Diamond_TomTom. Now copy the folder to OEM folder in the kitchen. Repeat process till you add everything you would like to have in the ROM.
When you delete/add everything you want start !Cook file
IMAGE
This will start OS building application. Just hit a green button and wait till it finishes. It will create os-new.nb file needed later. Close window on top (never close a DOS window) and rom building application will start.
IMAGE
Fill all the info as shown on the screenshot.
IMAGE
Use apropriate version rom (ie FR, ME etc...). As for the system select os-new.nb which is in the kitchen folder. Also you can select boot images and radios but for now we leave as it is. When ready hit Build ROM button.
Name your new rom (anything you want).
IMAGE
And hit SAVE.
A while later you should see screen below
IMAGE
Hit OK. Wait till everything finishes. Just press ENTER when asked. On the end you get message that rom is ready to flash. Hitting ENTER closes a window. All you need to do is flash it to your device.
PS Everyone is welcome to help. I need information how to update Framework and OS and where I can download it. Please post suggestions, registry tweaks and links to updated cab files for the apps removed from the rom. I will make a video tutorial after I have all info needed. I want to make easy for everyone who wants to have personalized rom.
Credits: Thank you to all who provided these great tools and these that helped in this thread.
EDIT: If you manage to create your own ROM please do not flood forum with new ROMs (unless it is something we never seen). There are experienced cooks that created really nice ROMs. Lets keep this forums clean.
There is a thread in this forum which has a simple to use kitchen. Using it is just easy as Steps 1-2-3.. But it doesn't work for some ROMs, atleast for me. By far, it is a great tool simplified in batch files.
Are you using the same tool or your own customised one?
Regards,
Carty..

Could do my... i just finished my one yesterday a perfect clean rom not staffed wth litter....i used the surface kitchen and based on ce 0s 5.2 20273 wwe a bit customized the manila that's all....
Is it a clean ROM with most apps removed? Do you want to share please.
Good initiative!
I really want to know what is the true performance of the Diamond, running it with just the minimum required.
Even when disabling TF3D and other extras, I find it so slow compared to other WM phones having less MHz... I just don't understand why.
Uploading my ROM now. It is slow. I will post the link tomorrow.
Just a tip, A clean rom is very good if you going to stick with what you got in the rom and possible a few otther apps by cabs, If your going to installed the same apps which are in a full rom then the clean rom with those apps in will make you lose valuable storage space rather than them cooked in and sometimes device will start to feel sluggish but it all depends on how many cabs youre going to re-install.
TIps , there are certain apps which are cooked in doesnt take up any storage space but if install by cab you will then use up valuable space.

Really? Dutty, could you please explain that a little bit further? Don't we have a set amount of storage space? i.e. If you cook some apps in, then you lose some of that space. If you add them later, you lose some of that space. But at least you could uninstall them.
So please correct me if I have misunderstood and I'm only guessing, but are you saying there is a part of the ROM that is only available to the OS 'image', and cannot be accessed in the normal way once the device is up and running? And are you using that space to install some apps? If so, how much space in the 'OS image' part of the ROM is available for that purpose? I would like to start cooking my own ROM's, but I don't want to waste ANY storage space that I am not forced to.
I would really appreciate if you could shed a little light on that for me! Cheers
Thanks, this is great.

bascally there some programs which ar cooked in for e.g Remote desktop, If cook this in its 1.45mb I think, I will only use up only about .45mb and save 1mb of storage space, If i install this by cab I would use up all of the 1.45mb storage space
Perfect
I was hoping/loocking fopr a thread like this! BUT
Could anybody explaine to me how to dump a rom?
The one I am using right now is pretty good and I want to modify
it and loose all the unwanted programs...
But what happens to all the .cab programs I have installed at the moment?
Do they "get dumped" as well so I can preserve them as OEM? Or do I only dump the "base ROM"?
And what about the Reg tweaks? Do they get dumbed aswell?
Thanks for the help...

Thanks for the reply, so what is the reason behind that... How can that 1MB be shaved off? Is it compression?

And to top this, apps that are cooked run faster than an installed cab.
But for some, a ultra light rom works becouse they have not ,uch progs to use, and need to install less cabs.

Just a short notice, lolek:
I see you've extracted the kitchen to your profile folder.
You'd better extract it to the root of your drive, like C: or D:
batch files have a tendency to disliking spaces in file/folder names as well as names longer than 8+3.

exactly also if you look at some of the benchmarks as well the lite roms are not much better or even some of the full roms are faster, so its all about what u really need in the rom, if your going to install everything back in your rom with cabs, its better to go with a full rom
Thanks for the input. This is what I was hoping for. The aim is to have simple tutorial for anybody to create their own ROMs. I'm off to work tonight but I'll update 1st post tomorrow.
I have updated 1st post. It shows how to convert cab files to packages and add them to the rom. I apologize for the slow progress but I'm still learning myself.
I have asked around how to update framework and OS. As soon as I get reply and test it I’ll post it here.
I know there many experienced cooks so please don’t be shy and help create this guide.
When guide is complete I’ll make movie showing whole process.

During the process of extracting a rom at the stage of '2a.ExtractDumpIMGFS.cmd'
'Recmod.exe' crashes.'
anyone know why and how i can solve this?
Thanks in advance
Dear All,
After messing around with the tweaks here on the forum, I wanted to build my own ROM.
I want it to be:
-Fast (With the known registry tweaks)
-Stable
-Graphically nice
-With the apps I like
-To have Dutch language, with an extra WWE-XT9
-With the latest OS version (.721)
My plan to do this is:
-Get a good (modded-) BaseROM (I have SkippyCentraal 2.8 in mind)
-Remove all unwanted programs
-Exchange the OS.nb (128Mb, .273) with the extracted OS.nb (.721) from a different (non-Dutch) firmware
-Cook it together and flash it to my Diamond
-Make registry changes
-Dump my own (cooked and tweaker .721-) ROM
-Compile again
-Post it here ;-)
Is this just the way it works? I have just read Lolek47's Tutorial Thread
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=413782
and it seems that simple?
Please advice...
Thanks in advance!

When I saw the tutorial I thought it is simple. But when really doing it, it is not that simple: my cooked ROM's (so far all of them) aren't even starting up. Hangups all over the place.
My advice to you is: find a good kitchen and just do it. Eventually you wil cook a decent working ROM. But don't expect to do it in a few days (like I did)
BUMP!
ive got the same plan as burdie!
But just in the WWE language, somebody knows a good tutorial?
would really like it!
yourz,

I can offer some advice, coming from cooking on a Kaiser:
I think everyone would like to make a ROM with all those things listed While it may not be impossible, it may take quite some time tweaking it just the way you want it
1. You can't use any ROM as a base ROM unless it is chef-friendly. This means that all the .dsm and .rgu files are included. If they aren't, I'd recommend starting from scratch on the latest or most stable base ROM
2. Removing programs should be easy, because all the Diamond's are organized in .dsm files instead of all being dropped in the OEMAPPS folder like the Kaiser
3. I don't really see the point of having a WWE XT9 dictionary with a dutch ROM, care to explain. Also, what are you trying to do with replacing the OS.nb?
4. I'd not recommend dumping the ROM off your diamond then compiling it. Why would you go through all that trouble when you could just make the registry tweaks you want and then cook it up?
i'd be glad to elaborate on any more of these or answer any other questions you have

Hello to the land of Gurus!
I have been looking for a kitchen to create custom ROM for Asus P750. The problem with current VGA ROMs is there is very little memory left to run programs (only 20 MB or so). I want to take one of these ROM and strip it down to bones and get rid of ext ROM to leave some more headroom for programs to run.
I need a kitchen for it. Can any one of you please help acquire the same?
Here kitchen, but only QVGA

or if you want to do old school check out the surface kitchen
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=407135
or if your looking for an already exsisting kitchen with all the dumping and mod done for you, and only u'd have to do is add remove stuff you dont want from a room, check out lobsterdaves kitchens, they r pretty cool for the new guys and advance ppl, i belive it also has a PDF inside to show you how to build a rom from scratch and how to dump it using the visual kitch.
