Man, I hate starting new threads! I did a simple search and couldn't find this problem anywhere else, so here goes:
Earlier in 2009 I bought an extended 2400mAh battery for my Kaiser (8925). Everything is working just fine, except that I noticed that the phone doesn't seem to notice that the battery life is much better for this new battery.
What I mean is: after a few hours of usage, the battery level drops at a normal rate.
Once the phone tells me the battery is almost dead (and sometimes the phone will shut off if I ignore this), I can shut down the phone, remove the battery, wait a few seconds and then replace it and boot back up the phone.
At this point, the phone will usually tell me that the battery is at 33% to 36% charged. Notice that I did not charge the battery, I just removed it and put it back in.
When I first got the battery, I cycled it completely three times in the phone, removing it twice and replacing it to ensure that the battery was completely drained before charging it to 100%. (Yes, I know that is only recommended for metal-hydrates, but I feel better doing that anyway).
On the top-end, it usually takes about two hours to charge the phone from 30% to 99% via a standard USB2.0 connector.
However, the phone will report that the battery is not fully charged for nearly an hour after reaching 99%.
I know what you are probably thinking; Why is this guy complaining about his battery performing better than his phone reports?
Well, it IS kind of annoying. I would like the phone to properly report the remaining percentage for my own benefit. I really hate having to guess at how much time I have left before I need to drop it off at a computer or wall outlet while I find something else to play with for three or four hours.
So... Does anyone know how I can convince my phone that the battery is pretty awesome and to start reporting the actual battery life?

ok my battery has good days and bad days. I have now tried something different and it seems to have worked for me. When I wake up in the middle of the night and the light is green i unplug my phone from charger. Then when i wake up four to five hours later it is usually around 95%. In the past I let it charge till I woke up then I would send a text or two a quick call or check email and it would drop to 88% or 90% in minutes. But now that I leave it unplugged for about five hours I get up and do what I usually do and battery doesn't seem to drain as quick. My question is why does this happen???? Strange that before it would go from 100 to 90ish real quick. now i start off at 95% and battery drains slower.
My battery is absolutely horrible. I unplugged it today n within minutes it was down to 93% n i didnt even use it at all. I have GPS turned off, wifi is off, 4G is off, friendstream is gone, i have everything set up to sync manually so idk wat the deal is.
If you are running a custom Rom you should do a search in the dev section for how to calibrate your battery.
it is stock rom. I have tried every battery trick. you could think of even the one someone posted from htc. none have work but for some reason this seems to be giving me better battery life. and i am just wondering why and sharing for other people to maybe try.

it sounds like voodoo, but based on the battery graphs before and after...it worked for me. the upgrade to 1.47 and 2.5 baseband seemed to help quite a bit too.
Strange battery design
OK it seems odd that the EE's who designed the phone specified a 4.2 volt charging cut off to the battery, and a 3.5V battery. It was probably to limit the heat production by components regulating internal voltage.
SO we can either up the charging cut off by rewiring a charger to use the feed but not the sensor ( 4 tabs on a battery), or get a battery rated a a slightly higher voltage ( which would only be partially charged due to the HTC charging algorthym). It may be that the recycling on /off specified by HTC ignores the sensor reading.
So like everyone else my battery life sucks. No big deal. I bought the extended battery from Sprint, and I can see the battery diminish in front of my eyes. I mean dropping 1 percent per minute. Is there a way to test the phone to see if it is the culprit?

ther are lots of ways to check things. does it drop 1% a minute all the time meaning you only get 100 minutes? does it only do it when you take it off the charger at 100% where ti will drop to any where from 99-90% in a matter of minutes?
if the later then thats normal and is because the phone doesnt have a trickle charge. this means that the phone charges your battery to 100% then stops however the indicator on the phone will not change it will still show 100% once the acctual power reaches 90% the phone then charges again up to 100%. what this means is once you take your phone off the pwoer if it has been sitting there even if it says it is at 1005 it can be any where from 90-100% which the battery quickly changes to over first few minutes.
If it happens past 90% and all the time then something is wrong and you likely have at least 1 if not more apps running wild on you, you have things set to sync constantly, and you have everything under the sun turned on for your phone.
for apps the paid version of system panel is very nice for monitoring you can go to monitor top and top apps and see which apps are using the most battery/cpu.
witht he information you have given that is aobut the best i can tell you. I would not say everyone has crappy battery life with the evo as i have slowly gotten my phone set up and now with moderate usage i can get 14-15 hours and at least 8-10 with very heavy usage(stock battery) which i dont consider to be crappy battery life.
I appreciate the response, and I forgot to add that I'm running stock unrooted sense. This is not my first Android phone so I know about battery managing. I don't have everything sync every two minutes nor do I have everything turned on. It does drop rather quick even past 90 percent. I think it might be the phone it self. I doubt I got 2 bad batteries, one being extended. I'll see if I could get a device swapped out.

My first EVO was like that. It drained quickly shortly after charging. I could never figure it out. Till one night before going to bed, I noticed something weird about the bottom keys on the phone. They were " very dimmly " lit. The home, menu, return, search were all dimmly lit. It was I believe a defect in the phone. I got it swapped out. No problems like the 1% drain since then.
So,
I've flashed three or four ROMs over the last week (with a few different kernels) and they're ALL having the same issue:
I use the "miagi method" to fully charge the battery, but when the phone is ON, the blue LED comes on when the phone is still reading 83%. I turn it off, plug in, and after a few minutes it's at 100%. I've wiped stats, flashed ROMs and kernels and the problem persists.
I don't know if this is having an actual effect on battery life, but it sure is annoying.

I'm going to assume you've been to this forum?
Personally, with all the phones, re-roots, re-flashes, and Odin flashing I've done I've had no need to do any battery edits, so I am limited on experience. My question to you is this: Does it hang at 83% for a while when in use, or does it immediately begin to drop percentage as if the battery never charged beyond that point? I know that sometimes after a reboot, my phone will go from 50% to 20%, but then hang at 20% for hours since it is in actuality at 50%.
If none of that helps you at all, my suggestion is this. I found the same thing for half the cost several months ago elsewhere if you look. It came with 2 batteries, one for me and my wife. The included batteries are notably not quite as good as the original samsungs. However, carrying an extra battery gives flexibility, and the wall charger does a faster and more effective job at charging any battery.
Plus, then you'll have a battery while you're other one charges!

++ on This .... I've used that calibration method (the 2nd one, off method) and it worked well for me.
hi i can solve this just follow simple steps
discharge your battery upto 17 percent
than use back camera with flash on take pictures with flash your phone will power off suddenly after 2 to 10 pictures.
just plug in charger issue is resolved your battery will be charged upto 100 percent
I just got some new batteries for my i-9000. I am wondering, I have always heard LIthium batteries do not like to be fully discharged. I want to perform a calibration on the new battery, but all the battery calibration apps say
1.Fully charge the battery
2.Press calibrate battery button.
3.Run the phone fully flat until the battery dies.
4.Fully charge the battery to 100% uninterrupted.
Now, step 3, going all the way until the phone dies, is that a good thing to do or a bad thing to a new battery?
Letting your cellphone's battery drain until the phone dies is a normal thing that won't damage your battery, because the battery won't really go to 0% charge.
Cellphones always shutdown it-self when the battery levels get too low (like 3%), to avoid the damage it would do in the Li-ion battery if it would go to 0%. So you have nothing to worry about.
yeah mine shuts down around 2-3% percent for that reason. You'll be fine.

just doing it once when you get a new phone or after noticing horrible battery life on a newly flashed ROM can work wonders
other than those times, I only let my phone get to 20-40% before I plug it back in
I Use BOS Gingersense Port From Kingdom, My battery is good and i didnt do that whole discharging,recharging crap.
calibration works for me...
Calibration even worked for me too, on my Galaxy 3. Previously i was getting backup of only 1 day, but after calibration i get around 1.5 days. I know its not much improvement, but still its worth.
And you don't need calibrate frequently. Just once in two weeks is fine. And I've heard that deep discharge once a while is infact good for the battery. Correct me if I'm wrong.
waiting for phone to completely die right now. One question though can I turn on phone while charging or should I just leave it off after dieing?
I called Sammy, they told me letting the phone turn off by itself because the battery can't power it is bad for the battery in the long run, they said you can't really see the bad effect that time, they told me, we have learned on are testing that when you see the low battery message pop up that is where you need to charge the phone, that warning is where the calibration starts, now draining it to the point that the phone turn itself off is bad for the battery. Do you believe that?

Only if you leave the cell empty.
It's best to recharge a cell as soon as possible if you have discharged it.
Discharge/charge cycles should be kept to a minimum, ie when you first get the battery, when you are sure you need to recalibrate, and when you've got no choice.
Top up charges are best for lithium batteries.
The charging circuitry in the phone should protect the battery from over discharge. It also protects the phone from overcharging. However, just like a spring, it's the constant charge/discharge that damages a battery. I would not run it down every day but it should not damage the battery, only cause it to wear out faster.

Try to avoid frequent full discharges. Occasional full discharges are okay.
Lots of uncertainty here, lol.
A new Li-Ion cell will output ~4.2V when fully charged and ~3V when it is totally discharged. Every single smartphone I've owned would shut down before the cell dropped below 3.5V. Draining your phone's battery until it dies will not hurt the battery or your phone. No worries about batteries catching fire.
Repeated or frequent full discharges will wear your battery out much faster, though.
Whenver i flash a new rom, i make it a point to use BatteryCaliberation from Market.
Though since the last couple of times, I have noticed a weird thing.
Whenever i let the battery charge, it stays on a particular % for too long,
in my case (most of the times), its 60% or 72%. And then directly jumps to 100%. (this 100% is confirmed by the mV in BatteryCaliberation.
And while discharging, it goes to 0%. Then when i remove the battery and power on, it shows 2% (Although one time , it went to 20% )
Is my battery broken and should i replace it? (It has been giving me crappy battery life too)
i've got this, always charges up to 70-80% and stays there for a while, then jumps to 100%, changing roms, calibrating battery doesn't fix it.
Always wondered why it happened, I assume it's to do with the battery but not sure if faulty or not, hopefully someone can shed a bit of light...
First guys The battery calibration has been shown to be pointless and useless. Dont bother doing it. Next if you ever do bring a battery to pure 0% then it will bot boot at all. The issue could be many things. From a bad battery to just the way your device charges. As long as it last a decent amount of time then you may be able to rule out the battery being bad. I wouldnt worry about it unless you see the battery discharging really really fast.
Try to go into recovery and wipe battery stats, and then discharge it to 0 % until it won't turn on and fully charge it 0 ma on current widget. it happened to me many times and this is how i fixed it (old problem on hd2 on android nand)
