When connecting the artemis via usb vista installs the pocketpc-driver and mounts the filesystem into the workplace tree but you can't set it up via the new sync center. the device is just not in the list which makes it impossible to set up a syncing partnership. Any ideas?
glad
I does work. I sync my P3300 with Pre-RC1 5336, no problem. But you do have to download Windows Mobile Device Center. Neat program, looks much better than ActiveSync and does pretty much the same. Good luck!

How right you are... To be exact... The WM Device Center is already there but you need the beta3 driver update to be compatible with the newest devices. Get it here.
glad
Update does not work...
Any time i try to install the Mobile Device Center Update i get an error message aborting the installation process:
"The update could not be installed because at least one Windows Component required by Windows Mobile Device Center is missing"...
Unfortunately, Vista won't tell which component that is. Any Ideas? I'm using Windows Vista Business N

Maybe the N-version (without MP11) misses a component or something... or try installing windows updates and try again. I suggest you use the final version, don't you (in fact it shouldn't matter...)?
Yes i guess you're right gladiac. It is the Final Version and even the Vista Experience Rate is unrated, because Vista can't perform the Test without the Media Components It is not only Media Player that is missing i think. Bluetooth File Transfer works, so it is not that urgent. Luckily the University i visit is part of the MSDNAA, which should provide me with Vista Ultimate in the next weeks. Hopefully Synching will run then ;P Windows Updates do not work... Well they work but don't fix the Problem
Thanks for your help
was wondering if anyone is having problems with bluetooth syncing?
I offer the driver of the modem for Vista 32/64.
For Vista64 by me it is tested, now I write using it.
connect to mda
When I start the USBModem_dialer.exe on my vista desktop, and want to connect using usb modem, which is succesfully installed. I get a remote access error 692. This means a hardware failure.
Many thanks
The modem driver is great I got it installed and have had no problems with it however after installing it on my laptop running Vista Buisness Edition I am no longer able to sync with Windows Mobile Device Center. When I plug it in all it recognizes is the modem. Any ideas as to what is going on? I would appreciate any info. Thanks in advance.

I too followed the installation instructions exactly, but had Error 692. After extensive web-searching, found the solution. Hope it works for you - it did for me. (But no guarantee!)
http://www.ppcsg.com/index.php?showtopic=78789
On trial and errors testing out various config changes I found that the key cause of my XP popping out the Error 692 is when I disabled Modem Compression at any end whether one and not the other or both (meaning the setting at modem properties in the Control Panel and the modem properties in the Dialup networking sections).
The fact is Modem Compression must be enabled on the Control Panel modem properties for the HTC USB modem and the modem properties in the corresponding dialup networking configuration.

Make sure you "Stop" the Modem from phone first before you connect back for sync
Hi,
Have you make sure the phone Modem is in "STOP" mode? If its still in "START" mode then you will not be able to sync it. I'm using Vista Beta version and it's working fine for me.
Hope that's help .

is it any different to 6.0.6783?
Still installing it, but it's supposed to be the first version to officially support WM6...
Is it just me or does it take ages for files to transfer using wmdc? if i use a £3 ebay purchased card reader its about 10x faster to pop the card in the reader and then put it back in the hermes when file transfer complete. I would have thought it wouldn't make that much difference but then again i don't much about that sort of thing
Wow for once it synced everything to Outlook 2007 thats something it never did before! Nice upgrade i must say
What version of WMDC is showing after your re-install?
Where would i find that? I know it said 6.1 when it installed
Open WMDC...
Click on the ? icon, and then check the "About WMDC..."
Thanks!
6.1.6965 ................
hmmm. 32-bit or 64-bit?
Is it me, or do ROM upgrades crash when using 6.1? I've managed to get ROM flashing working with Vista and WMDC (thanks mrvanx!), but with this update, the update application crashes after the phone goes into bootloader.
32 bit Vista ultimate
bizarre. I've downloaded/reinstalled the 32-bit English version three times, and my version still shows 6.0.6783
grrr

Mine installed fine with Vista Ultimate also.
SK
Under Connections dialog: new choice, check or uncheck:
Allow data connections on device while connected to PC
Can get device certificates.
Exact same overall slowness to sync.
Opportunity to get stuff you don't need during driver install on first sync after upgrading to 6.1.

Q: After installing WMDC 6.1, can we still flash ROM images under Vista? Or do we need to replace the ActiveSync drivers with the 4.5 ones again?

Ok, so I eventually got this running (both 32-bit and 64-bit Version 6.1.6965), but it was not a trivial install:
- had to disable firewall and antivirus
- had to uninstall all old versions and patches
- had to remove the device drivers for HTC USB Sync
Only then was I able to get it going (on both machines). Interestingly, I did not have to delete the partnership, but we'll see how today goes...

Well, my first test results is you now can use RUUWrapper in Vista using the new 6.1 drivers from WMDC. Theres no need to change to old driver nor disable and kill the wmdc process... good news... i've just flash splash screen now for testing purpose.
I've tried the mtty too, but the port for connecting to PDA while in tricolour isn't in the list. Can someone put the name for the port, to test...i can't remember...
Thanks.
hi all,
been searching around for any clues to this but not having any luck.
Prior to doing upgrade I had been using the device successfully on my vista x64 machine.
Successfully performed an upgrade of my device using my XP machine.
Upgraded Windows Mobile Device Center 64 bit edition to 6.1 release on my main PC.
Now, when I connect the phone to the vista pc, i get the customary sound on connection, but device center does not show it as connected. When I check device mgr, I dont see the normal HTC USB Sync item that I did before.
I tried changing the PC to USB setting on the phone and reconnecting, but then PC reports unrecognised device as being connected.
I have tried connecting to different USB ports on the PC with no luck.
Any suggestions appreciated!
Thanks
hey, sorry i don't think i have any solutions for you on this.. but just to make sure, i'm assuming you re-enabled usb connections after you upgraded under vista?
on a side note dutchiesmokah has been having trouble upgrading under vista x64 as posted in this thread, and i'm also very curious how to help him overcome this obstacle. I believe he's stuck at disabling driver signing. Do you think you could have a look over there, and report on what you did etc, to get it working?
hi racerx_
actually, I did my upgrade on a windows xp machine running activesync 4.5 specifically because of that thread. Because of that I never had to go thru the re-enable procedure, as I never disabled it. I merely upgraded the version of Mobile Device Center to 6.1 as I new that was required to support WM6.
I had something similar to my problem happen once before on early version of MDC and WM5, but somehow came good after multiple disconnect/re-connect attempts.
Sent a request to Dopod Asia support a week ago and have not had a response yet.
oooOOOOooohh.. i see what you're saying. Sorry, i didn't read your first post carefully enough. That is weird that it won't sync. I've posted about some weird sync issues as well.. not sure if it's related, but..
under xp my device suddenly stopped syncing and would report an error each time, although it made the connection sound, and activesync turns green so it knew my device was there. It would come and go. I deleted both activesync partnerships on my device (not computer) and magically it's working.. it may not have anything to do with your issue, but just thought i'd share in case it helps out
on a side note, that other thread regarding vista upgrading is moving pretty slow. You think you could be convinced to be a guinea pig and try some of those methods for upgrading under visa and report on what works?
Hi All, I have a Hermes with WM6 and have just installed Vista Ultimate and am not able to get my Hermes to Sync.
Vista claims it does not recognize the device . . . I have tried via USB & Bluetooth. Any ideas how I can resolve this?
Thanks in advance.
Same thing happen to me the first time what ROM did you use? I just use Fun key rom and everything works great.

Even I have wmc6.1 installed, my computer doesn't recognize my Hermes starting from build 1921, it opens it as a storage device only, but no syncing !!, downloading Starbase's ROM right now and will try...
Vista has issues with everything its a pile of *beep*
I am also having similar issues. I just got my new laptop that runs Windows Vista Business and I can get WMDC 6.1 to sync and see the device but it will not load my contacts and calendar onto the latop. Its becoming very frustrating and I'm not sure why it won't sync the data. I'm running the vp3g 3.62 rom on my phone.
Try this...
Click...
Start-> Settings -> Connections -> USB to PC
Uncheck the box "Enable advanced network functionality"
if it is already unchecked, then try checking it. That seemed to work for me when I had problems with WMDC.
Still the same results for me. My phone can connect to the computer... it just won't sync the data.

Install Windows Mobile Device Center for Vista from Windows Download center. Then everything will work fine. It is my experience.
One thing that might help from my experience:
Take out the microSD card. I had some problems with it inside my phone - no sync. When I took it out everything worked fine! Then I formated my card and problem was solved... don't know what it was all about.
Last month i uninstalled the wmdc and then reinstalled it... i got the connection right but not always...
THen last week i had to reinstall windows and then when i did and update , i got an all new WMDC. This version works fine and good... No issues now...
I have the latest WMDC and have tried everything so far mentioned still and still no sync!?!
Very frustrating.
Any other ideas? Am I missing something really basic.
I have done something right!
After downloading WMDC finally the Jasjam was recognised however when trying to sync the following error occurs:
"Cannot connect with current connection settings. To check your connection settings, select Start, then Settings, then Connections."
So i went to that part of my phone but have no idea what I should be checking!
All help with this is much appreciated (if only things would just work )
