Hello,
I have a Belgian HTC Hero, but im not getting new updates from the HTC website.
I have a very weird ROM 2.73.1100.5 (only for Belgium)
I was wondering what are my options to get a better and newer ROM then the 2.73.1100.5 ?
how to start with all this without bricking my Hero
Unless you are prepared to root and load a custom ROM, you're probably fine on the ROM you have.

Dave

Hi,
Just follow the procedure on this site...
http://theunlockr.com/2009/08/27/how-to-root-your-htc-hero-in-one-click/
Make sure to download the latest 'flashrec 1.1.3.apk' file here...
http://zenthought.org/content/project/flashrec
After you've flashed your recovery.img and have booted into recovery mode,
make sure you do a 'nandroid backup' first!!!
For the rooting-thingie...not quite sure how that works...
I just flashed a pre-rooted rom ( the generic 2.73.*** rom over at modaco's site )
http://android.modaco.com/content/h...-24-11-hero-roms-radios-in-update-zip-format/
I hope this info gives you a good start on how to flash your Hero..

i bought my htc hero from ebay,
it was orange branded, the seller debranded it & sold
there;s no orange services in india aswell,
it works fine with my carrier
now when i try to uprgare from 1.76.61.3 to 2.73.405.38 it fails,
i've done everything as required & suggested here
i kinda lack knowledge about the unbranding stuff
will i need to unlock again after updating?
or once unlocked its free for updating or flashing custom rom anytime
please sort me out of this
If I were you, I would avoid using an RUU to update your phone, and use one of Modaco's custom ROMs. You will find instructions in this forum.
Regards,
Dave
i dont want custom rom as of now,
please help me regarding my question,,please!!
Well, for starters, 405 is the generic HTC build, which presumably won't pass the CID checks on an Orange Hero (regardless of its status vis-a-vis branding). Therefore, I'd suggest trying the Orange 2.73 update if you *really* want to use an RUU, but there are plenty of "custom" ROMs that are simply the carrier ROMs packed in an "update.zip" format.
Personally, I'd never use an RUU as there's always the possibility that they will be updated to close the loopholes that allow custom ROMs to be flashed - which is exactly what has occurred with the latest official T-Mobile update!
Regards,
Dave
cheers!!
i've no way then to agree to you
just one question again?
flashing a custom rom,is there any change getting it locked again,
as throughout the forum i'm just seeing unlocking orange hero is not a task of ease,
i know i might b sounding stupid but i'm not sure of this stuffs
winmo flashing was different case imo
edit: please provide me link to customroms.zip
There seems to be an issue with unlocking Orange Heros for some users, but you've already said that yours works fine with a different carrier so you clearly don't have this issue and yours is unlocked already.
For ROMs, see http://android.modaco.com/content/htc-hero-hero-modaco-com/291942/09-10-hero-roms-radios-in-update-zip-format/
You will also need to replace your recovery image with one that permits updating via zip files. See http://android.modaco.com/content/htc-hero-hero-modaco-com/291486/25-08-installing-the-patched-recovery-image-on-your-device-permanently/
Note that you don't actually need to permanently flash the recovery image if you don't wish to. You can boot of it using the fastboot command, make a nandroid backup, and then apply an update zip file.

Dave
cheers mate,thanks a lot
i'll go through your links & will try out!!

At a guess thats an Unbranded Desire
when it loads up do you get the HTC welcome screen or a T-Mobile/Orange/O2/etc screen??
I think it is unbranded, so that is good. But maybe you should wait for someone else to join into this discussion, because i'm not fully sure and don't want you to end up with a phone which is locked.

i don't wanna root my device....can i flash it with official RUU as said by Flaggie???
Just remember that with rooting you don't have any new languages, you still need to flash a custom rom. You could just first flash a generic rom (which you don't need to root for just connect your phone to your pc and run the .exe) from the xda website I mentioned before and see if you like the regular rom.

Dear Ones...
I tried to update firmware with generic ROM but got the error....
Can you help me with this please ???
Make sure your phone is in Bootloader,,, then into Recovery mode
The 170 error is normal. At this point your desire is in bootloader mode and you just need to reboot your pc and re run the RUU.
If tour trying to downgrade - I don't think you can without root. I tried last night and It fails. I'm on 1.21 but my phone is now network locked and as its only 2 weeks old the imei is not listed yet on any database to undo the network lock.
Sent from my HTC Desire using XDA App
Thx all for support...but once again i ended up with same error.....
i have HTC Sync installed and all other thuings i had taken care while updating...no result
Can i have complete detail...i mean step by step procedure..here or anywhere written....
Don't mind...i m asking more but....i don't wanna take more risk....without knowing more facts....
and i am searching here and googleing too....FYI
thx again....
Weird for me it just worked. Do you have the android software development kit installed? http://developer.android.com/sdk/index.html
Good Day to you all
I really can't find the answer to this, so here goes:
I have a HTC Desire with HTC Sense (GSM Version), and i would like to root the phone and install the Cyanogenmod 7 ROM; but here is the thing i am unsure which stock rom to download as none seem to match mine:
Baseband Version: 32.49.00.32U_5.11.05.27
Build Number: 2.14.207.3
The closest ROM i have found is this: RUU_Bravo_Froyo_HTC_WWE_2.29.405.5_Radio_32.49.00. 32U_5.11.05.27_release.
But if I install the above ROM if something goes wrong will it brick my phone? And if so were can I download a stock ROM that would be suitable for my phone?
I have searched for ages attempting to find a suitable ROM but have been unsuccessful.
Your help would greatly be appreciated.
Many, Many Thanks
Tor Fey
When you have an unbranded device, you can flash the named ruu. When you a branded device, you have two options:
- create goldcard and flash ruu
- flash the ruu from your provider

Hi
Thanks for the reply.
The problem is there does not seem to be a rru from my provider? i am with O2 Manx Telecom, this is why i would like to know if the rru i have found will do as stock?
The only ruu for o2 for froyo I could find is this one:
http://shipped-roms.com/download.ph...00.32U_5.09.05.30_2_release_144166_signed.exe
But this one is older than your current version. So create goldcard with goldcardtool (google for it) and flash stock ruu.
As long as you did not apply the gingerbread ruu, flashing a ruu won't brick your phone.
Thanks very much Man
I will give it a go tonight.

Hey guys, I'm having serious trouble debranding my desire and spent the last days 'n nights searching for a solution.
Three days ago I was given an HTC Desire A8181 by my sister's boyfriend from Canada. I want to use it in Germany and somehow 3G doesen't work at all(only Edge).
So I thought about flashing a European /WWE ROM to solve the problem.
As he told me the phone was unbranded I just picked the last EU RUU from here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=695667
But while flashing I got Error 130 - Wrong RUU.
Flashing itself doesn't seem to be the problem: My sister's boyfriend found his old ROM he was using before on this phone and I was able to flash it without problems.
It is 3.14.405.1 / Android 2.3. - apparently Telus branded.
I checked with Terminal Emulator and found out that the phone is indeed Telus branded. So I created a goldcard and tried again.
Now I get Error 140 while flashing ( wrong Bootloader version )
Could it be, that the ROM I want to install is too old?
I'd appreciate any suggestion.
Information:
Bravo PVT3 Ship S-ON
HBOOT-1.02.0001
MICCROP-051d
TOUCH PANEL-SYNT0101
Radio-5.17.05.23
The Phone is unrooted.
Both drivers and HTC Sync are installed on my PC.
Btw. Any ideas why 3G doesn't work?
Thanks in advance!
Hi there!
If this is the case you could just flash a stock ROM instead?
Also, this may help: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=943726 to unlock the phone fully (though it seems like that's the case already it may help) it's quite safe. I've done it on about 4 Desire's without problems over the last two years.
There is Teppic74's rooted stock 2.3 ROM which is very good and exactly like the RUU version, with the exception of being rooted: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1200261
To root the phone, last I checked it was pretty simple. You simply downlopad unREVoked, run it, connect your phone when you're told and let it do it's stuff: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=788044
Also, a problem you MAY have is that the phone is CDMA and Europe is mostly GSM networks (I think)
@ Kryten2k35
Thanks for your reply.
Firstly, I already SIM-unlocked it with the linked tool - that was the first thing I did after holding it in my hands.
Actually I could install a custom ROM, yes and I must admit that I already did so before. I tried out Supernova and tried to flash a new Radio ( I used unrevoked to do so) . I was quite sure that I screwed st. up so I wanted to get a nice proper European RUU running on my phone. That's when I always had Error 130 ("wrong RUU") while flashing all kinds of official ROMs. At this point I was given the (obviously Telusbranded) Telus ROM that perfectly worked as the only exeption.
I had the same idea with that CDMA / GSM uncompatability but found out, that my modell Number is A8181 which is sold in Europe/ Asia. So it should work...
Thanks anyways!
Other ideas?
Well, that Teppic74 ROM is completely stock (except it's rooted) so it's exactly like the Gingerbread ROM. He tailors all his stock ROM's to be totally like stock!
Have you tried the offical HTC Desire Gingerbread RUU? Beware it will stop you from ever putting a custom ROM on again (iirc)

Well, mate, the biggest problem with compatibility is a band version of device not rom. If you got it from Telus you have to check which frequencies it supports and see which one are used in Germany (I think you said Germany).
About RUU, you can't flash EU RUU on your device without a gold card because of CID version of your phone.
And if you want stock RUU that will work on your phone go to HTC dev site, kernel source code part, configure filter to DEVICE (Desire) and choose OTHER below it, click FIND FILES and the first one to download will be RUU upgrade android version 2.3. It's made for all CIDs and it will work with your hboot version.

Why should it do so?
Besides I'm quite sure, that the ROM I'm currently using IS the latest official ROM - it can't be a branded one.
FIrst: Android Task Manager tells me under information - Brand: HTC_WWE
Sounds like HTC's official version.
Second: Current System Software is entitled: 3.14.405.1. ,which is HTC's latest Gingerbread (2.3.3)-update. So actually it cannot be branded.
Third: THe old owner swears that the ROM he gave me was NOT branded.
I just found out that flashing with a comon SDcard would lead to Error 130 while flashing with Goldcard leads to Error 140.
At this point I probably could S-Off and root the phone and put a custom ROM on it but I'd really, really, really like to know why I'm unable to flash those stupid RUUs.
And if you want stock RUU that will work on your phone go to HTC dev site, kernel source code part, configure filter to DEVICE (Desire) and choose OTHER below it, click FIND FILES and the first one to download will be RUU upgrade android version 2.3. I just checked that THIS RUU is exactly the one I have installed right now!
Thanks for this hint!
So could you tell me why only this RUU works and the other ones don't?
Thanks a lot!
I suppose it's because of the updated bootloader, which is 1.02 and won't be downgraded to 0.93, which would be the froyo version.
Btw, this will not stop you from doing s-off (which I'd recommend you to do). Only using HTC Dev unlock will stop you, so avoid using it.
Gesendet von meinem HTC Desire
Yes bootloader is the problem, so you can't flash older RUU. If you go s-off (only revolutionary can do so for you) you can flesh alpharev stock hboot which is write protected and you can try older RUU (but I don't see a reason).
So, go s-off and root now and flash a custom rom of your choice.

Thanks guys, you really helped me out!
So far I flashed CM 7.2 and it's running fine - will try to get a proper radio on it hoping the 3G issues will disappear.
Thanks!
Hey,
Just downloaded a custom rom for my rooted HTC One V. I had some problems with my last rom in terms of boot.img flashing so when i flashed my next rom (Xperia One) I flashed boot.img afterwards as instructed and entered a boot loop.
I have tried several things (including factory reset) but nothing seems to get me past the white HTC logo screen with the red font spelling: "This build is for development purposes only Do not distribute outside of HTC without HTC's written permission. Failure to comply may lead to legal action."
Also I can access bootloader and recovery mode but I cant seem to install any of the roms that are on my sd card.
I have read in several places something about finding the right "Ruu" I live in Mexico so I haven´t found anyone that says something other than europe and usa. If it helps this is my bootloader screen:
" Unlocked
PRIMOU PUT SHIP S-ON RH
HBOOT-1.16.000
RADIO-3831.17.00.23_2
eMMC-boot
Mar 13 2012, 20:17:28"
So yeah, anyone have a suggestion to what i should try next or maybe a link to a similar thread I've hopefully haven't explored?

Make sure you have the proper Kernel compatible with the rom. Dont flash the boot.img in the rom package as I have found they never work. Also make sure you have the "GSM" version of the rom and kernel as your phone is a "primou".

This is very helpful information thank you. By any chance do you happen to know about Ruu's? I've come to the decision that I need to flash one but my problem is I live in Mexico and every RUU list I find has them seperated by regions. Is there a specific one I need?
Choose your rom for your phone "One V Android Development" for sense rom and "One V Original Android Development" for Cyanogen
And again your phone is GSM, not CDMA ... Xperia One for CDMA lol

You rarely have to flash the boot.img inside the rom.zip,a separate img is to be used.
