Hi, I just wanted to know which order I should install ROMs and Radios in. I want to install the latest radio because I have heard it can improve reception/increase battery life and I am going to finish installing MoDaCo 3.0 when I know which one to do first.
Also when partitioning an SD card using the AR Recovery loader (sorry if thats not what its called) do I have to change any values or are the default ones suitable. The reason I ask is that I bought a 4gb Class 6 card and want to use that instead.
Many thanks

When I had a Windows Mobile Phone, I flashed the Radio first, and then the ROM. You would maybe have to look if it's described anything about the ROM and which Radio, I don't think it's any problem. Find also the best Radio for your area, I once flashed a US radio and got the worst signals ever.
And if your flashing the MoDaCo 3.0 I would partitioned the SD card after the default settings, but you loose 1gb then. And you loose all data, so therefor do a Flash of the ROM afterwards.

OK well I've flashed the radio already. Now I'm going to put the MoDaCo ROM on my new SD card. Once I've done that I will Flash the ROM onto the phone.
Once this is done I will boot into recovery and partition the SD card. This I assume will wipe the SD card and if I follow the defaults (32MB, 512MB, Rest in Fat32) then I should have an OK setup?
I assume the values I have listed are the best values for partitioning but I don't know.
Also, what do you mean about losing 1gb?
Thanks

Sorry I ment 500mb ish, From the total size of the sdcard, since 544mb goes to ext and 1,4gb is left for FAT32.

hi all,
as i was testing my new desire using the 4gb card it came with, i did all the rooting with that card in, am now running on defrost 3.1 and all my mods are done.
I tried to partition my other 8gb card using the rom manager on another phone as my phone wont run without the sd card in, then once that was done, i cloned the cards ie copied the data on my mac, then copied it off to the new card.
started the phone with the new card but most features of defrost are not available and alot of the apps are missing.
now when you go to the application manager, it shows you where stuff is installed but it says they are on the phone, presume this is cos a2sd is more of a tricking the phone than a physical change of location for the installed apps
anyway, so my question is, can you change the sd card without re installing the rom?
thank you in advance

sorry mate didnt see this till now. in short no.
your phone should work without an sd in it, format the 8gb card use rom manager to partition or use AmonRa fake flash to partition (i prefer this way) and start over again. i know its a pain but its the safest way to do it.
i personally wiped everything on sd and phone so there was no partition and nothing on the phone, then i flashed my rom (dont do any mods yet) then either using amonra or rom manager, partition the phone may take a while to boot up but just LEAVE IT. then do everything again ie mods and apps. long i know but like i said its the safest way also you cant **** anything up.
hope this helps
This is an ongoing problem for me and it's definitely not ROM related, but it makes flashing ROM's difficult, in fact downright awkward!
When installing apps from TB it will get through a couple then reboot, at which point nothing will install until I repair my ext partition (Thank God for AmonRA!). Then it will do the same thing again. It will do the same thing with installing apps from the market too, but it's not so pronounced as I don't tend to install loads of apps at once especially as I've got TB.
I found that TB worked fine with CM7 as it didn't install to the ext partition until I flashed DarkTremors aps2sd, and that worked fine as a way round the problem.
None of this happened until I upgraded my 8Gb to 16Gb sd card. The card seems fine in every respect, just the problem with installing aps :-(
Anyone with any ideas?
My previous thread on disabling aps2sd has not proved fruitful either.

Before I upgraded my pathetic 2gb I done a little research and the word on the street was the hero couldn't handle more than 8gb, recommended by HTC apparently!
Whether this was due to the limitations of the rom(1.6 at the time) or the hardware I don't know.
Have you tried re-formatting your SD card and making sure the ext partion is compatible with the rom your using?

Yeah I've reformatted and reformatted, initially I thought that the problem mgiht have been the backup files had become corrupt when transfering them over ... and yes I've tried ext2 ext3 and ext4 all with the same results (the only rom i tried which wasn't compatible with ext4 was Cronos).
Maybe its true about 8gb being the limit the hero can handle, maybe someone else can confirm or deny.
I'm sure I've seen some on here using 16Gb cards, but it would be good to know, maybe I should change to the Froyo aps2sd?
Maybe you could try doing a nandroid backup, and trying a different rom to see if it works, if not you could have a faulty SD card???
I a, using a 16 Gb card without problems, I always do a full wipe of my phone and a format of my card before flashing a new Rom. I use the aps2sc within the rom and make sure that the settings are right (install to external) before I use titanium.
I am on elelinux 6.2.0

The max htc Hero should handle would be 32gb I believe. According to link 1, htc hero supports SD 2.0. While SD 2.0 is also called SDHC, which according to link 2 its max is 32gb
Maybe you should try to pull /proc/last_kmsg to see why it rebooted? (post it at pastebin.org, and place url here. Maybe we can understand it )

Yeah I'm really confused as those were my settings also and I tried in on Elelinux 6.2 ... I think it must be either my Hero had a bad day it was born or the sd card did, but it always comes up clean when scanned.

16gb card here, use TB all the time and nadroid as well and never had a problem. Maybe your card has some faulty sectors. Try to copy 16gb on it on the PC and copy it back to your pc after you've made sure nothing was cached. Or try scandisk to see if a part of the flash is broken, maybe.
Using a cheap ebay-bought Team 16GB Class6 with TB, flashing and nandroids. No issues whatsoever. Works great!
I've scanned the disk multiple times, not tried a full 16gb transfer ... and I'll get the log output in a minute or two
output of /proc/last_kmsg

Thanks in advance!
Edit: It got to installing around 15apps this time before crashing. It varies as to when it dies, but it will. I even considered that it was overheating, or due to OC'ing, but it does the same thing regardless of temp or CPU speed
i also use 16gb sd card for 3 or 4 months and nothing ever happens like that. everything works perfect...
Have a feeling that it's corrupt, as I have a new problem with installing anything, I now get told there's not enough room to install or updates apps ... when there's plenty ... arrrgggg!
if 16gb isn't working for you, send the card to me. I have a working 2gb you can have instead.

Haha that's really funny.
Actually I ran some scans, fsck's and reformats with repair options, and if it wasn't for the reboot issue and instability issues I have with Elelinux 7.0.3 then I'm sure I've got it fixed... I hope ...

hi all,
I'm planning to flash a custom rom for the first time. Since I like HTC Sense, RCMixHD seemed like a good choice? (Is it?)
My phone is already rooted and via rom manager i have clockworkmod. I also made a backup via the recovery.
Now is my question: what is the difference between the two versions of the rom? Is one better than the other? And what exactly do I have to do with the sd-card to make it work correctly?
Thank you in advance,
Floris
A2SD+ - apps and app data moved to the SD card
Data2SD - ALL data is moved to the SD card
Quite simple really! Data2SD is better for storage BUT add strain to your SD card. Plus, you need a fast SD card for it to be worth while (Class 6 upwards)
thank you for such a quick reply!
Now I know I should chose the A2SD+ version since (for the time being) I only have the preinstalled memory card.
Now the only thing I have to do is partition it correctly?
Thanks!

I've watched a video in which they use gparted to partition the sd-card. However they say in the video they think you need to create a fat16 partition for sdcards lower than 4gb and fat32 for larger cards.
Like it said, I use the preinstalled 4GB card. Should I use fat16 or fat32?
Also, in the RCMixHD topic, you can download a lot of different versions of the A2SD+ rom. I believe with different kernels and the first one is 2.0x1. I have downloaded the 2.0x1 version. Is that okay?
thanks!

I've never heard of that and can't think of any reason why you should create a fat16 partition.
I'd keep the fat32 partition, resize it (make it smaller), and create a 500mb ext3-partion at the end. (thats what I did months ago and everything works nicely)
Sry I cant help you with the rom-question, I don't use a hd-rom.
many thanks for the reply. Will try the rom and see Thanks for the help!
Hi,
I have been using HTC Desire A8183 for a while and have just swapped to A8181 for Optus network. I have taken out my 32Gb Card from the A8183 and placed it in the new A8181 after I have rooted and flash AmonRA V2.0 recovery. Except I cannot get into recovery from Vol - plus Power button unless I wait a long time for it to look for PD99DIAG.ZIP image which it does not find. If I put a smaller 2Gb sd card in it is fine and goes through to recovery quickly.
Can someone please help and steer me in the right direction, is it a problem with the SD card, am I missing something?
And yes its the new Desire PVT4 (40000) if this makes a difference.
Thanks in advance.
Have a look on your 32GB card for the PD99 file. I guess it is sorting through it if there is one. If it's bothering you that much, backup your SD card, then just format it and see if that works. But please backup.
Thanks I had a look and could not see the File, should it be in the root of the sdcard?

Only if your looking to update something.

the PB files are stock images and unless you have one on the SD card it shouldn't find one. The only time you'd use a PB99IMG.zip is when flashing it after extracting it from an RUU as you can't get an RUU to run
You also can't change from from A8181 to A8183
Thanks For your input and understand what you are saying I just don't know why my phones spend 10 minutes scanning for this image before loading the recovery. It should see there is no file and go straight to the recovery. Funny thing is I put a 2gb micro SD in with nothing in it and no problems straight into recovery, put my 16gb or 32gb micro SD in and I have to wait for this process of searching for this pb99diag image and nhh file etc. I don't understand is it the large size micro SD causing this?

I am also having this problem, but it started only after I partitioned my SD card with GPart into EXT, Swap and FAT32 partitions and then installed the MIUI FROYO ROM

Sorry to comment on my own post but I resolved the above problem by doing a Clockworkmod backup, Wiping User data & Dalvik cache and then flashing xavierjohn22's "MIUI XJ A2SD/A2SD+ 1.3.25 - 2.3 x1"
This was a PIA as I had to re install Titanium Backup, but then, at least I was able to use it to recover most of my data and apps from the TB backup made before my Superuser became corrupt.
The upside is that I now have the Excellent Gingerbread version of MIUI.
Hi there!
I've got a problem with my HTC Desire sd card partition.
Every rom works fine, sd card also but it starts to force closing, freezing and randomly rebooting when I push apps to sd card using any of the A2SD scripts (except stock one). I mean, when I use roms which just need SD-EXT (such as MIUI or SpazeDog ICS) nothing seems to work uncorrectly but when I move apps all problems start. I tried many roms (MIUI, InsertCoin Sense, SpazeDog) and diffrent moving scripts (A2SD+ ; D2EXT ; and others which names i forgot) and it always caused reboots, FCs and frezzes when I pushed my apps. Can you guys tell me how to fix this problem, or is it just my SD card broken? I always partitioned card by 4EXT recovery, tried EXT3 and EXT4 file system, never made partition bigger than 1GB. My SD card is a Sandisk 16GB class 4.
Sorry for my bad english, Szotaa
An important thing is the method younused to partition your sd (a tool you used).
Also, it wouldn't be bad to buy faster sd card (class 6 or 10).
So, the solution for the problem would be using another partitioning tool? Is gpared a good choice?
Now I saw you used 4ext recovery, and it's the best tool. Gparted is the second best, but I think u need a new sd.
One more question, is your phone s-off? Some scripts need it to work properly.
Yes, my phone is s-off. So its a sd card issue. At the end could u tell me is supernova rom going to work properly, even on my sd card? Because i heard it is the stabliest d2ext ever made.

Supernova recommend a certain brand of sd card to work with the rom. I cant remember it off the bat but it's stated on Droidzone's website/forum.

Based on user feedback, we recommend a Transcend Class 6 for D2SD roms.
