Hi, I just wanted to know as someone who is really new to this, what RRU/RUU (sp?) is and also whether the Hero MoDaCo ROM uses HTC Sense UI?
I think I may have asked the Sense question in another topic but just wanted to condense both questions into one thread.
Thanks

Hello everyone -
Newbie here at this stuff, and I was wondering if I can download the Universal ROM AKU3.5 and install it on my Verizon XV6700 phone?
Thanks.
P.S: Universal means it's for everyone? or is it another brand like HTC, Apache, etc.

Universal is a BRAND, just as Apache is a BRAND.
I suggest you read the Apache Wiki
http://wiki.xda-developers.com/index.php?pagename=HTC_Apache
Not much info on there right now, but it will get you started. Also, do a forum search for the Apache or the XV6700 to find out if other owners are successfully able to flash to a new ROM and the steps they took to do it.
Good Luck!!
Thanks for the reply, one question though, you mentioned about new ROM for XV6700 over Apache forum, and I'm assuming u mean the Sprint AKU2.2 ROM right? If so I already got it flashed in my Verizon XV6700 and working now. What i'm interested in is the AKU3.x ROM. Is it possible at this moment?
Thanks.
That's a question you'll need to answer yourself from reading the thread that has the ROM you want to flash to. Each ROM has it's own prerequisites for a successful upgrade, so I wouldn't even want to presume to know whether you can or can't.
Here's the link to Molski's AKU3.2 ROM.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=286988
However, it's in the Wizard upgrade section, so you might not be able to use it on your Apache. The only way to know for sure is to read the ENTIRE thread to see if you could use it on your device.
If so, FOLLOW THE DIRECTIONS EXACTLY!!
If it's a Verizon phone, it is not GSM based, therefore it is TOTALLY different from the Wizard, and most other HTC devices.
If you can't do it yourself, learn. If you can't learn, wait for someone else to do it, and find out from them.
Now go have fun!
Hi guys,
This is my first post so please forgive my ignorance. I have just received a brand new HTC Hero from Orange UK as a replacement for my previous Hero that went faulty.
Anyway, I really want to install the Hero 2.1 ROM. However I have only ever messed around with OS changes when I used to install leaked updates to my BlackBerry.
Can anyone point me in the direction of a comprehensive guide to doing everything I need to do to install Hero 2.1 ROM or explain it to me?
Thank you all for any help that you can offer.
http://android.modaco.com/content/htc-hero-hero-modaco-com/297764/the-how-to-guide/
keep in mind that the 2.1 roms available are not fully functional yet. if you want something stable with everything working as intended go for mcr3.0, but that shouldn't stop you from testing new roms! just a note.
double post
Thanks for the link. I'm a pretty big idiot when it comes to this stuff but I'm always willing to give it a shot.
Is there much difference between MoDaCo 3.0 and the 2.1 ROM? I'm just looking for something that is a bit faster or more up to date than a 1.5 Orange UK OS.
For faster than stock, I would suggest modaco 3.0, since 2.1 will be on the way in the new year, and it isn't quite ready for everyday use yet.
But its up to you. Just don't go installing any rru updates if you want to root or install a custom ROM in future.
check out changelog of each of their final releases..and u'll wats added to them ..and wats still not working
RRU updates?

if you make that a question you might get an answer.
if you want speed go for modaco. the 2.1 roms tend to lag here and there, and as i said are not suitable for daily use. they work great for an early preview, but that's it.
Ahh OK sorry to keep on asking what are probably inane questions. I'm guessing since nobody has mentioned RRUs with MoCaDo, that they aren't involved.
I'll see how that ROM goes, hoping it uses HTC Sense UI as I really like the look of it but it's not essential.
I think I have to update the Radio for the MoCaDo update.
I'll probably post again if the change doesn't go well or I can't do it LOL
Thanks again guys.
im a newbie when i comes to windows phones, ive had blackberry's my whole contract and i figured what the heck ill try one so i found a new one on ebay and when i got it, it looked like it had the sense rom installed, and me being an idiot, put the original rom back on it. how can i put sense back into it? lol
go to the touch pro 2, Tilt 2 Windows Mobile Rom development forum and read the Hard-SPL unlocker sticky thread and make sure your device is hard-spl'd, if not then do it. Then read the Flashing your first GSM Rhodium Rom (also a stickied thread) [this is assuming ur device is gsm (at&t or t-mobile)] and go through the roms and flash whichever one you please. NRG's Energy roms seem to be the most popular for the rhodium but its all up to your personal preference.

Wait a minute, you already burned a ROM and you don't know how to burn a new ROM? If you are asking what ROM to burn, take a look at the ROM development forums.

I was just about to say that.. if you can put one rom on you can put any rom on (any rom thats compatible with your phone that is)
well the rom i put on was the regular factory rom from htc's website and i found it to be easy cuz it was an .exe file, idk about other roms. whats a good rom for me to use? i was thinking sense but i read it slowed down after alot of txts and emails. im a big txter and i use emails alot so i dont know what to load on my phone. any help and suggestions would be greatly appreciated. and for the record, im 18yo, and dont know much about this kind of technical stuff.

There is an issue with SAVING sms - it slows down the phone a lot. But it should be no problem to view them and then delete the old ones. I use the NRG ROM. But I would go over to the ROM Development section and read up. Start by discovering if the phone has Hard SPL.

due to there is no official 2.2 from htc you must flash a cooked rom. Within the cooked rom you'll find the flashing procedure.
Thanks but what is cooked rom
First thread, sticky in this section; http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=696189 explains it all, you even have video-tutorials

I do agree that you really should read at least some information in the sticky threads before asking such a basic question, but i took the time below anyway, but afterwards please let those sticky's answer your questions
A cooked ROM is either a freshly compiled version of android, or a port. Then there are numerous advantages and addons, the common one is that you always have root-acces, basically "administrative" access to things that stock-roms try to keep you away from.
Cooked roms was especially great some time ago, when android didn't provide tethering support (internet sharing), paid apps was more limited, hardware on phones was more restricted and with cooked roms you could overclock the cpu, move applications to your sdcard and have a linux-kernel that left you with more available RAM.
Then there's often other hacks and cooked roms are almost always faster than stock-roms.
The only disadvantages is that by messing with these kinda things you void your garantuie. Most of the time, rooting is safe and tested before published, but if youre flashing a newe radio-version or spl (a separate part, not the actual ROM) there is a risk for "brick" leaving your phone unusable in some case.
That said, if you experience some kind of hardware issue that you know isnt related to the ROM, you can "unroot" your device, basically put back the original rom so that it doesnt appear modified at the repair center.
Desire is very easy to root, a simple script you run on your computer updates your stock rom with a rooted one, leaving your settings and all as it was, but with root acces and the posibility so change rom if you like
I would suggest, respectfully, that if the OP does not know what a cooked rom is, or that there is no official 2.2 as of yet, that perhaps trying to root may not be something they do until they've read up on it a lot more.

Hi ALL
I am very new to this forum and very little knowledge about ROM installation or (upgrading Mobile OS). This is a fact that there is no official Operating System update (sandwich or jelly beans OS) for HTC desire HD. However, custom made OS for HTC are available. According to my understanding these custom made mobile OS are called ROMs (consfusing for non-technical person) but every day is a learning day. I come to the point, the purpose of this thread to understand all this process to update my HTC desire HD. I have got few questions to ask which are as follows.
1. My HTC Desire HD is locked on "3" network. Can I still install Rom?
2. I need to know A-Z process in a simple and plain english please. I need step by step guide or in simple words "ROM for Dummies"
3. Which Rom is better? ( I know that this question could not be answered but for your conveniance I am giving these options which were I found from some website
1. MIUI
2. ParanoidAndroid
3. PAC Rom
4. AOKP
5. Cyanogenmod
6. AOSP
Could anyone answer all these question please?
Thanks
Riz
The first two questions have already been answered time and time again on these forums. Start with the Ace Think Tank thread in DHD General. Your third question is not permitted because every person has a different "better" ROM. Each has different features; you'll just need to try it for yourself.
