Hi, i am currently using MCR 3.0 and everything is good, however, the GPS doesnt always get a fix. I can see with GPS status that it can see like 10 sattelites but cannot even get a single fix after 30mins. Sometimes it works really quickly, sometimes it doesnt work at all. Does anybody have a fix for this problem?
What Radio/Baseband are you using?
Right now I'm using 63.18.55.06JU_6.35.08.29 and am experiencing similar issues.
I may consider jumping up to 63.18.55.06JU_6.35.09.26, which is supposedly much better, but apparently it kills WiFi as well.
mm radios affect the GPS and wifi as well? i always thought that it only affects the phone reception. right now im also using 63.18.55.06JU_6.35.08.29, maybe i'll try upgrading it.
Well, unless it's any different than when I had my HTC Vogue, yeah, the Radio affects every wireless function of the phone essentially.
Just be careful upgrading to 63.18.55.06JU_6.35.09.26, one user reported that the WiFi issues became permanent for some reason.

i am using 63.18.55.06JU_6.35.09.26 with MCR 3.0, no wifi problems for me. used it on the Hero21 1.7 with no problems also
Interesting, interesting... Now I'm tempted.
I'm on the stock (downgraded, rooted) ROM right now. I wonder if it will work properly.
i upgraded it, the wifi seemed to be much better now but i didnt see much difference with the GPS

So I recently got CM6 on my Touch Pro and right now I'm using the market and it's downloading at an appallingly slow rate D: It's roughly 10KB/s or perhaps slower. Did I do anything wrong here? :<

Nope. Wifi just sucks. It's always one of the reasons why Android always locks up for me, actually.
*crai*
So, wifi on Android just sucks? :< It's better on WinMo though, which I don't really get.
Since wifi is painfully slow on Android, how else would I get applications on it? A much faster method xD
Wifi seems fine for me... Faster than 3g, which is all I really ask for when using it...
I take it you're using a TP too >.< Whaiii *cries*

I used to. RAPH800, wifi was definitely faster than 3g. I'm on a RHOD now tho.

Maybe because you're not using a RAPH. A search in the thread would show that other people have the problem, and not just me lol...
i haven't noticed any wifi issues with the builds. always faster than 3g for me.

I said I used a RAPH previously... I've only had the RHOD for about a month now, had a RAPH for 2 years before that. So I'm not just shooting off the hip assuming... I ran XDAndroid on my RAPH for a loooooong time.
Well uhm, I'm using a Touch Pro but that's as far as I know. Perhaps I used a wrong startup? What would I use instead?
nothing there will make a difference.
do a test. using the regular browser (not opera or anything) goto mobilespeedtest.com or speedtest.net and do a test and see what it tells you. would help if you also have a computer on the same router to test against.
you can test 3g and wifi and your computer to see the differences in speed.

And so did I. I could make a video demonstrating how unstable the wifi/radio is, lol. I've had far too frequent crashes for someone to tell me that it's "stable" .
EDIT: Here's some other people reporting the problem.

I have had the same issue multiple times. I find it happens more when I am travelling over a distance and the radio has to find new towers to connect to all the time.
Battery Drain on new kernel is great for me too, just wish the mic in-call worked, at the moment I am not using Android because of it :-(

Annndd.. there's probably a good chance this will get ignored because "it works for me".
Perhaps wifi is unstable on the 110, but I seriously doubt it. Besides, that dude is talking about the radio finding new towers, what does that have to do with wifi?
I find the radio is unstable as well. I actually thought it was just a CDMA thing. I thought we were talking about slow wifi speeds tho... Now I'm just confused.

i think you are starting to get confused here. are we still talking about wifi or have we moved on to 3g now?
honestly almost nothing here is truely stable. our ril still needs alot of work and that is what talks with the towers.
wifi however shouldn't have any real issues. wifi is working on every model of the supported devices and as you can see, this is the first thread regarding wifi issues.
the wifi is supported by the kernel. kernel changes shouldn't make a difference as the wifi drivers haven't changed. however the devs are trying to get hopspot support working which may impact wifi. if you are having issues, report a bug.

It's both wifi and 3G that's unstable for me. Anytime I use the internet through either method, the phone has weird issues. It's easily reproduced.

what type of issues? system rebooting into android? rebooting into winmo? force closes? radio crashes?
i do not want to blame the device but my g/f who just gave me her diamond had alot of issues running xdandoird. come to find out her phone had issues in general and had nothing to do with xdandroid.
this may or may not be a similar issue to your. that will be for you to let us know.
if you have the time, rename your data.img to data.img.bak and launch haret.exe. it will build a new data.img and from there run the same basic tasks that cause issues for you now. since our build is still in the "building it" stage, some apps will cause issues without you noticing. the only real way to tell if an issue is the system or if it is an installed app is to test it with a clean system to see how things come out. this doesn't always solve the problem and if it does not let us know.
your said you have a raph110, Stinebd who is one of the main developers on this project has a raph110 so if there are any real issues with xdandroid and that device, it will be known. as such i have not heard from him with any real stability issues using the radio or the wifi (i believe he no longer has service on the device however).
if your one of the luck cdma users there are more issues as there are no real devs working on the cdma side of things for our devices. there are alot of radio stability issues as the ril is not complete and is a hacked hack version of the gsm radio made to work on the cdma network.
hope this makes sense.
Sowwy D: Was moving and getting new ISP's. Horrible wait :<
Anywho, for all those going "It works for me" Yeah well... It doesn't. I'm getting 14mbps wireless, but on the phone I'm getting 84kbps which is... Odd. I'm currently using the SuperFroyo port. I've had experience with the xdandroid version and it's wi-fi was actually pretty good compared to this. Kernels perhaps?
Sometimes my internet will not connect unless I quick reboot and even then there is no guarantee it will and other times it connects fine. I don't think its a signal issue, it just seems to be quite tempremental. Is this a common issue or is just one of those things. I'm using a HD version of Froyo and wondered if there was an app or widget to force the internet on and off. Any help would be great. Thanks.

I personally have found that with custom roms some arn't "made" properly and so things like this happen. Happened to me plenty of times. I guess you can update you radio to 5.14.05.17 if you haven't.

Similar issue with VillainROM 0.9
I have a similar issue after I used WiFi.
After reboot the Mobile Data Connection works properly. But if I activated WiFi in the meantime, it will not switch back to MobileData after stopping WiFi.
The only method to get Mobile Data working again is to reboot or switch to flight mode and back.
As well the Mobile Data's ToggleButton in the status bar and the option in the settings sometimes show the exact opposite.
Anyone to confirm this issue?
im would update the kernel and the radio, newest kernel should be no problem but im would not install the newest radio because a couple of people had some problems with the newest version.
Thanks to all for helpful replies, will have a bash with a different radio and rui.

I have been on Ginger Villain 1.1, 1.2, 1.3 and 1.4 and i have had this problem.
When the wifi is connected, i would say once every five minutes it disconects and re-connects again. Even though this process takes a few seconds, it is very annoying when im on skype as it terminates the call.
I have set the wifi sleep policy to never. I have never had this problem on stock, modaco, and Robo HD roms.
One thing to note, i originally thought this was a gingerbread 2.3 problem. Too see if was true, i flashed the new modaco 2.3 rom and it was fine. I was using skype and other apps for over an hour and it did not disconnect.
So why is this happening in ginger villain?
One thing to note.
I live in a flat and therefore the wifi signal has always been quite low BUT it has always connected without any problems.
Could it be that GV 2.3 decreases wifi signal strength?
I have flashed the latest radio and ril which seems to have fixed it.
But now I am getting graphical issues as the screen is flashing and acting very weird on certain apps.
Anyone got any ideas?
I'm currently on 1.3 GV and have the same issue with the Wifi, about to try a different Kernel to see if it helps.
I've also noticed a decreased signal, I can be standing right next to my router and not receiving absolute full signal... Think it may be a ROM issue?
You have to remember these ROMs ain't perfect and each one seems to have it's flaws, but the dev's are getting there!
What kernel will you try?
Strange. I have no problem with wi-fi. Signal as well as on the stock rom. In the router logs no disconnects.
Kernel: 1.6 HAVS 1113Mhz + BFS from Villain setup
Radio: 32.44.00.32H_5.09.05.30_2
It is very strange, I have tried different radio's but still can't fix it.
Under normal internet use, it is quite difficult to tell that the connection has dis connected and reconnected as it only takes a few.seconds.
When using Skype or Google talk, you can tell and its very annoying.

Did you manage to fix this with a different kernel?
I am so glad I have finally found someone with the same issue as me! I have a relatively weak wifi signal (distance) from my hub to my room where I use my desire. On apps like youtube or bbc iplayer, it would suddenly turn off wifi and then reconnect all of a sudden. It meant watching anything with these apps is a nightmare. And I have always had it set to wifi sleep - never. I have never had this problem with any other ROM and I have tried loads. I originally put it down to my already tempermental internet, but I have now ruled this out. This is specifically a GV ROM issue.
GV 1.0 - 1.4 all had the same issue. Then, yesterday much to my surprise I saw in the 1.5 change log that one of the changes was that 1.5 "should fix the wifi sleep bug".
Last night, I tried iPlayer as usual, but I believe the problem still persists. I now don't know what to do. I will try resetting the wifi hub to defaults and so on, but I really don't think it will make a difference. I could try flashing a new kernal, but again I don't see how it would make a difference. Then I thought maybe a new radio, but I don't see the need. I'm using the latest official desire radio, and it works flawlessly on everything else.
So, I'm out of ideas, and my patience is slowly dying. I love the ROM for all its worth. It works perfectly, except for this. But for me, stable wifi is a deal breaker. I might need to try something else like amethyst.
Yes, sounds exactly like my problem. There Is a problem with Ginger villain as it works fine on other Roms.
I have tried so many different kernel's, radios and ril's but to no luck.
The only last solution I can think of other than to change rom is to try the modaco kernel. But the problem with that is, its not available seperately so we need someone to extract it from the rom.
I've got a strange issue with my HTC Desire and GV 2.5 :
at home, it doesn't even detect my Wifi (others devices do, of course), while at work it works perfectly.
The security is the same (WPA2/AES) between work and home, so I don't see any explanation... do you think it can be caused by the channel used ?
Frederic
I'm getting really frustrated now. This problem is a real nuisance for me, as I use my Desire a lot solely for this purpose.
In my room, the wifi signal has always been pretty weak, generally only getting 1/2 bars. However, the connection is stable and still about 6mbps. This is never usually a problem for my Desire, it picks up the connection and everything works great. Stock Froyo, Sense Froyo, Sense Gingerbread, Sense V2 Gingerbread, Miui Froyo and Miui Gingerbread all operate flawlessly.
However, I now have a bit of a problem. It seems most Gingerbread AOSP ROM's cause the wifi to play up. I have tried GingerVillain, Oxygen, Redux and finally now my favourite CM7. The wifi constantly drops out and loses connection, and then takes a good 30+ seconds to reconnect. The dropouts can be as frequent as every few minutes, and generally it never lasts 4+ minutes in iplayer without losing connection. If I am just casually browsing, I don't notice. But when I am watching something on youtube or iplayer, the constant dropouts make the experience so horrible it isn't worth the effort.
What's more, there is some odd bug with the iplayer app where once a dropout happens, the audio and video goes out of sync and so on etc. All in all, it makes streaming video unusable, and this was a main reason for me buying a smartphone.
I really don't know what the problem is, but I really would appreciate some help. I would say it was a gingerbread problem, but as stated above, there are many gingerbread roms which don't cause me the same issue. Similarly, I've used an array of different radio's and kernals on each ROM. They make no difference. It depends purely on which ROM I am using. I've tried resetting the bt home hub, restoring it to factory, changing security type, moving it's position and so on. I'm pretty sure it's a ROM / Phone issue though as it works fine with other ROMS. Phone wise, I've set wifi policy to never and set a static IP address. It makes no difference. I still get wifi dropouts!
For reference sake, I'm using the latest stock Radio - 32.49.00.32U_5.11.05.27 and Kernal 2.6.37.4-cyanogenmod-82245..... and obviously CM7 7.0.2.
Please someone help? I'm actually considering upgrading just to solve this. It is absolutely doing my nut in, and I am totally out of ideas or solutions.
Thanks.
Maby a weird thing but on what channel is your wifi broadcasting ?
I had almost the same problem when my wifi was on channel 12. Now on channel 3 there is no more problem.
Not that any other wifi's broadcasting here. It is just that I've got the feeling that android has a problem with "high" channels.

It was on 10 and 11.
I'll switch to 3 and give it a try. Also, I'm going to try flashing the Gingerbread Sense Drivers and RIL.
Hi,
I've also had a similar problem for quite a while now (1-2 weeks). I used my wireless connection on my standard out of factory ROM on my home wifi network, my families wifi networks and my work wifi networks without _any_ problems.
When this problem started acting up I'd start my wifi connection, it would work for like a minute or so (not dependant on the amount of data transmitted or something, idle would last as long as while downloading), and then lose connection.
The strange thing is that it indicates it is fully connected at full strength but can not establish _any_ internet connection whatsoever.
My 3G connection to my network (I live in the Netherlands) works nicely, but it isn't as fast as wifi, so this limits me quite a bit (especially at work, indoors).
I've just tried to upgrade to CM7, but doesn't give any better results. I haven't tried upgrading my RADIO, but I don't really want to if I don't have to.
Any clues what I could do to fix this?
I'm experiencing similar problems.I changed from channel 11 to 4, but it really hasn't helped. I have also set up a portable wifi (netcomm). It runs on channel 3. The network sim is quite slow but the signal strength is much steadier. My faster speedstream completely drops out. I understand this "pulsing" of signal is normal, but mine is beyond the pale.
My acer netbook doesn't demonstrate any dropout issues.
Im running an A501 3.0.1. No upgrade yet for me here in australia. But, I'm wondering if this is just poor hardware.
could try a different Radio.. the latest stock one from the new official gingerbread is in my signature..
MD5: 432ED609D76AE57BA493DA875CDC9D2D
further to my difficulty with wifi drop outs, I'm pleased to say that it appears that my problems probably are related to my home wifi, a Speedstream.
I'm currently spending a week on a houseboat and I've been using a netcomm myzone wifi fitted with a sim card from a prepaid Dodo broadband usb.
I've not had any problem with it. Granted, I've had it close by, but it still seems to work fine when I'm at the other end of the houseboat.
So my acer A501 seems to be behaving itself here. Perhaps, something is causing the speedstream to vary it's signal strength so drastically.
@OP - I posted a thread a few weeks ago about having exactly the same problems as you with AOSP ROM's and weak wifi signals. Once I went to a Sense ROM the wifi signal was great. I prefer the AOSP ROM's so I upgraded my Radio to the latest version but it didn't help at all, I didn't see any change when using wi-fi analyser.
I'm currently using CM7 ROM and just putting up with the weak signal. I'm glad it's not just me though.
Hi all,
I have been changing custom roms almost every time,AOSP,Sense and MIUI,kernels, radios.
The problem is my wifi range is not far. It always needs to be at least few feet from the router to get coverage.
Any suggestion?
I am currently running :
ROM : Hydrogen 2.2 FINAL
Kernel :Lordmod 8.7b CFS
Radio : 12.62.60.27U_26.13.04.19_M
Thank you.
Strange, if you tried different radios...
Mine is 12.28b.60.140eU_26.03.02.15_M3, you might try to flash this one and see if it gets any better, if it doesn't, I suppose it's a hardware related problem (contact your reseller).

Thanks dude. Yeah, i have tried radios like !2.65, 12.62,12.54 etc.. coverage for phone is perfect, but for wifi it sucks a lot. Terrible i must say. Have to be real close to the router where else my Bold and Ipad can even go further.
I will give the radio you recommend a try. What i realized is that, whenever i put my palm to cover the battery cover,it seems that the wifi coverage dropping.
I know that, the antenna is at the battery slot, but that means it has to do with hardware, not kernel, radio of firmware.
CONFIRMED!! my DHD has a problem for its WIFI - Antenna.
Most radio n kernel tried. but none solved the problem.
