Are you saying that you want to backup/upload your texts to the MyPhone server but not synchronize-with/download-from the server?

i think you have to go online and archive it...i just started using it yesterday so take that comment with a grain of salt...

If I am reading this right.... (correct me if I am wrong)... you are deleting stuff on your phone, but it re-appears when it syncs with MS My phone...
If this is the case, there are two things you could do...
First, and less favorable of an option, Go into Sync Options (In the Menu in program) and uncheck the things you don't want backed-up or synced. This is a two edged sword though, in that it won't back up anything else in that category.
Second Option, log on to the MS My Phone website (http://myphone.microsoft.com).
Once there, log in with your Live or Passport account (the one you use to sync your phone).
Goto the catagory you want to clean out (say Text Messages).
Then delete the item(s)/message(s) you do not want.
When confirming, it tells you that this will delete it on the phone as well.
Once confirmed, it will clear it off of the phone at the next sync time.
Hope this helps.

dash seems to be laggy

Hi
My dash seems to be really laggy lately.
Is it due to the build up of txt msgs?
I'm on 6.1 and the phone seems to be a lot slower than it was when i first got it. Any tips on how to speed things up or do i need to delete all txt msgs??
any tips please?
I forget where in the default tmo Rom is task manager, but you could always kill text messaging after you're done using it.
I updated my dash to ricky's rom maybe the 2nd day after i bought it, its got omap overclocking and i've sped up my dash that way.
Perhaps you need to see what programs that you have are running all the time (with task manager) and see if disabling/uninstalling apps would help.
im running kavana 6.1 and its just recently been really laggy.
I clear my tasks and still lags. I starting to think its my txt msg logs since i txt anywhere from 2000-8000 a month and never delete any of them.
Is that the case?
Yeah, dude!!
Holy, shizah!!!
That many. Not to sound like an ass, but hell yeah, that's the prob. you need to run a script that either copies these to a text file somewhere routinely, or just straight up delete these.
Let me give everyone a word to the wise. For a fact, the more messages that are unread on your phone, the worse off the battery life will be. When you have unread voicemails, text messages, email messages, you are destroying your memory and your phones battery.
If you wanna seee a noticeable difference in both memory and battery life, read and delete all old messages of any variety. This goes for non smartphones and smartphones. This is a general rule of thumb. If anyone feels the need to wax intellectual, please, kill that idea. It's a moot point. I know this to be the case, and you can argue all day. Facts are facts.
Hope this helps, man. If you need me to write you an app that eats your text messages routinely or copies them to storage or whatever, just pm me. We can figure out a solution that suits you best!! Later.

Maybe you could try Jeyo Mobile Extender for Outlook. It syncronizes all your sms to your pc, so you can delete them from your phone and still don't lose them. Also you can send sms from outlook, so it's a little faster.
Hope it helped
Cheers
Use Chome Configurator to remove any home screen shortcuts you don't need.
That's all I've done so far, and it made it REALLY fast. No oc'ing needed.
One often over looked issue is the Notification Que, if you dont clean it out your device will slow down. I once deleted over 500kb of old entries after a month of use. Now I delete it weekly
what do u mean by the notification que. how do i go about in doing that?

The simple way is to use SKtools, it does pretty much everything you need as far as device hidden settings and cleaning management.
Is there any way to delete the text messages on the phone from a pc? I've been trying to delete these messages for the longest. It takes about 15 minutes for each contact's messages. I tried to delete it using menu>tools>empty deleted items but when I rebooted my phone after about 500 messages getting deleted they reappeared right back in the inbox. Im now goin to the deleted items folder and deleting all from there instead. I hope it works, but it is still slow.
outerdepth, can I pm you for that script you wrote to delete messages? I really need it.

How do I save SMS and E-Mails?

Doesn't seem to be an option to save SMS and E-Mails. Unless I'm over looking something. I disabled TF3D and just use the original WM interface so you think that's why? When I go to menu no option to save. I thought about making a new folder to move it to, but I can't do that either.
Anyone know?
BTW - I tried to search for this but nothing came up about how to save sms and emails.
Try http://myphone.microsoft.com
you can back up your contact and SMS messages

Oh yeah I forgot I had that. But with a HTC running Windows!!! Don't you think this type of thing should be built in? The easiest and simple things that we need are always missing.
try PIM Backup, works good even for email
Aren't they just in the sent items? Or do you want to back 'm up to your PC automatically?

I want to be able to save a certain emails to my phone when I need to and use it later if I needed to. I'm so use to doing this when I had my BB. I don't want to save my entire email list. Just certain ones that are important that I would need at a later time while I delete the rest.
I don't need to save too many text. But if I do, I just send it to my "Drafts" folder. I don't like how I can't save a MMS pic either. I have to email it to myself in order to save it. Unless somebody knows another method.
It may not be much help, but I can confirm that Flexmail allows you to 'save as' your messages. The WinMo PIM apps are the bare basic essentials. If you want anything fancier, you need to consider third-party software.

Text messaging driving me CRAZY

ok, i just got this phone yesterday, and its AWESOME. Just one minor but VERY annoying problem tho, whenever i send out text messages, it will be displayed in the correct time, but whenever i recieve text messages, it will be 4 hours before the actual time... It seems its been set to a different time zone or something... Anyways, does anyone know how to fix that?..
Thanks.
oh and is there anyway i can find out which rom/country my phone is currently using? I bought it unlocked from a local chinese retailer, and supposedly they get all their stuff from hongkong, is there anyway to check?
anyone? bump
it depends where is the person which sends you the sms, as a matter of fact if the person is in paris ou you are in London, then the message will be displayed with GMT -1

I had the same issue, I apply the summer time fix followed by the df_timestamp_fix.cab I attached. (Thanks to the author, it's floating in the forums if you search for sms timestamp or something along those lines if your curious to know what the cab does)
I am not sure the summer time is needed but it work for me.
The issue is with a "Trust time zone" Reg key. From what I understand, your provider applies the GMT -4 and your phone do it a second time, hence the time difference.
Hope this work as well as on my phone
wow if i was anywhere near u i would go over and kiss u, thanks a lot man! I didn't know the correct term for it was "timestamp" and i been searching all over the forum and came up with nothing. Thanks again! gonna go try it now
the unfixable unread count is even worse.
at the moment i have 8 unread SMS messages i cannot make go away. even when i use a CAB to handle this things go back to the way they were after the next text comes in.

Did you try disabling touchflo from today screen in settings rebooting and then re-enabling it?

I only had that prob once on my TyTn2... or was it my Prophet...? Anyway, try this file. It worked for me before.
Not working.... Just tried it.
this was exactly what i was looking for.
thanks SO MUCH.
EDIT: doesnt work.
Try this
Start/Settings/Text Messaging Change to Classic and X out.
Go into your text messages and you will probably find the culprit in bold. Once you open it, that should reset the counter. Go back and switch to threaded.
First, make sure local time setting is correct (as above posts)
If still persist, try reghack; open phm regedit or resco or else, navigate to HKCU/System/State/sms/Unread, change the Count value to 0. Exit regedit, press power button to suspend your device, wait 5 secs, then softreset. Please try and feedback.
The timestamp_fix.cab did not work for me. The MTS_RecvTimeStamp.cab did the trick.

This didn't work either for me.
I noticed if HTC Messeging is installed, the cabs will work, if its not, they wont work.
But HTC msging is slow.
anyone with a solution for the timestamp issue?

Help with phone book

Hi new to forum and to the world of the smart phone ( so please be kind )
I picked up my new phone yesterday HTC Desire
so far so good but one thing annoys me that i cant fix
The phonebook is rubbish as it the first name of the person is not the first word in the phone book
as in :- John Smith Mobile is :- Mobile Smith John
is there any way to switch this round ??
Thanks
Funnily enough, I was just about to post some issues about the phone book and you beat me to it!
With regards to the swapping round of first/last names, I think your only option is to go in and manually change each entry. I've had this before and in GMail (I think) is makes a good guess what is first and last name. Sometimes when syncing between devices and the cloud, especially on the first time, the devices don't agree what is first and what is the last name.
Though I hope I'm wrong and you don't have to manually change everything.

I am not very good with phones (but I am learning )
I also hope we don't have to manually change as i have over 200 people on my phone book.
Believe me, I feel your pain. I'm decently versed in how syncing contacts can mess up as I've done it to varying degrees on past phones.
I've had all contacts duplicated and had to sit there for the evening deleting contacts. Over dinner, deleting contacts.
I've had to go in manually and correct contacts and change around details.
Probably the biggest piece of advice I can give you or anyone, is:
Before you do anything major, even syncing with a new device, backup (export) your online contacts!
And then:
When you've got your contacts nice and sweet synced between online/mobile device/whatever, backup your contacts!!!
You get a lot more leway for the future!
I had to spend about 40 minutes sorting out my contact list the other day.
Glad I took the time to actually go through and do it, as all my contacts are linked and organised properly, definitely worth doing.
I have just done the same now
how do you put a photo to the number?

Just replied in your thread, but will stick it here too:
People > Tap on the name > Edit > Tap on the camera icon in the top left.
thanks I'm getting there...
Will take a few days to get used to it
Does anyone else have a problem with the some of the contact names 'resetting'?
I originally copied over all contacts from my SIM, and have since linked most of them up to their Facebook profiles. I have set the display name to be the one listed on Facebook, and this works perfectly for the majority.
A couple of contacts keep going back to their name on the SIM, have no idea why...

how to delete contacts off of t-mobiles server??

Well some how some way I either had numbers in there before or they managed to sync from another phone how do I delete them?? There's numbers there I don't want one my phone period.

If they are in your t-mobile contacts I think you have to log into your account via a pc and delete them. You can als hide them from your "contacts app" view if you go int contacts' pull up your menu and hit view. Then uncheck anything that you dont want to show up in your contacts.
Not sure if any of that helps, but hopefully it will.

I deleted them from online but I guess they loaded at some point before and now they won't come off even after hitting tmobile sync (and it being stuck on eternal sync). The view thing works but only within the contacts app. From the dialer the numbers still come up and from text messaging app they still come up..so frustrating I have people numbers coming up on the dialer that I don't use or want to see or be seen and I'm stuck with them..ridiculous.

Go to contacts and press Menu. Select view and deselect T-Mobile. Temporary fix till you go online and hopefully sort it out with T-Mo website...
Thats been done too they still come up whenever you type it in the dialer and in the text app.. I deleted them from tmobile server checked on the tmobile to sync and still nothing, they remain. I also deleted all the data from every app that says tmobile on it in the stock app manager. Its just a bug or something, I thought someone would maybe know where there data is located on the phone or something.. Im sure Ill be fine if I wipe but its a bit ridiculous thats what it has to come to.
I had this problem. I had to go into Contacts and choose to view all the contacts I didn't want. Then I deleted all of them by pressing Menu -> Delete and choosing all of them.
Silly question, maybe, but are you sure they're from t-mobile's servers? Could they be on the SIM card?
One thing I found that helped me was to open the contacts list, hit menu > view, to see which contacts are saved where and how they're linked up. I then unlinked all the t-mobile contacts and deleted them manually. Then I turned off t-mobile sync. Finally, I went online and delted all the contacts from t-mobile's crappy servers. They really have a sorry mess of old and new websites crammed together over there and need to do something about their whole system.
