UPDATE: If your using any of the new roms and are having a problem with the my profile page then use the file ive attached on the second page that should sort out the last part of the puzzle,..
DONT USE THESE FILES WITH ANY OF THE NEW ROMS FLOATiNG ABOUT
most new roms have most of the facebook problems sorted now, this was initially for people with the early versions of the new rhodium port,----
If you're creating your own rom you may still find some of these files useful so ill leave them here and when i finally sorted the my profile page ill upload all changes.
-----------------
Fb-RhodiumInt V01.zip
ok this is experimental and i take no responsibility for you having to hard reset your phone,
the facebook option has always been in the rhodium manila it was just left disabled so with a few edits to the manilla.xml file, it will then display the updates page in the all people tab.
there is a few missing manila files (that help with login etc) from quite alot of the rhodium roms/oems so now its just a case of finding them all,
i havent gone through all the differnt roms but im sure files needed will differ from person to person so hopefully if everyone intrested in this helps out we can find them all. i started from the rhodium oem package and added the files in the uploaded , so far i can see updates page, log in to facebook started to try and get updates but i dont think this is 100% and also the link to fb profile for your contacts isnt working.
So Basically
Working--
visible updates page in all contacts
Logs In to FB
NOT Working--
Link own Profile - not 100%
link friend profile
Don't know if you've got this working allready, but just in case
With Dutty's HD V2.2 Xtreme I think I got it all working (I think) with som reg edits! Manila even suggested to me wich friends I had in my phonebook that I also had on facebook, and linked them. I could upload birthdays and contact photos. Even status updates are displayed in my contact list.. To the people that manila didn't match between facebook and my phonebook, I could link to whatever facebook profile I liked.
well, could you please post the edits you made in the registry?
Have you had any problems with the facebook integration?
Thanks
im not sure if this works with davide's v3 im still looking into all roms, thanks for getting involved, if you can post the changes im sure it will help us get this fully done
I'm not 100% sure if this is everything I did, but I think so (I was just playing around).
In HKCU\Software\HTC\Manila I changed:
- Facebook.disable to 0
- Manila://people.page.hidden to 0
- Manila://people\browserlayer\peopleupdate.page.hidden to 0
- Manila://Peopledetail\peopleView.page.hidden to 0
I'm not sure how the facebook integration is supposed to work, so I don't know if something isn't working..
But all the things I wrote in my previous post works.
Remember I'm using Dutty's HD V2.2 XTREME
Oh, and btw, I get the link to my own profile also..
If i edit The facebookSDK in HKLM\Software\HTC to that I have a new message in my inbox, I can see this in the people update page, but that I didn't get to work if I actually had a message in my inbox.
Thanks to your tips, I managed to get the Updates page back into Dutty's Extreme 2.3, but when I try to login, the text box is 1 character shorter than my email address. All I can enter is <email>@gmail.co
Gutted! So close!
[UPDATE] Tried signing in with a shorter email address, but Manilla simply crashes and restarts
[UPDATE2] Having checked the FacebookSDK in HKLM\Software\HTC, it seems it did actually sign me in (status, birthday etc are all there), but it still crashes when I try to go to the Updates page

Same problem here.
It crashes.
I'm using V2.2, it works for me..
I'm actually on Dutty's Xtreme v2.3 and i can confirm that Facebook integration works 100% with his ROM...the only thing is that it links to the mobile version of facebook with TF3D in Opera...
Anyway, congrat's on your find and hope you get things sorted out with the integration to work 100%...
guys - only the MSVC version of Duttys 2.3 has the facebook fixes
I think the ones saying that the facebook page crashes are indeed using Dutty's 2.3. I say this because I am one of them. Logging into the facebook via TF3D crashes it, but the login data is maintained, so I can link the various contacts. The only page which consistently crashes TF3D is the main facebook one (IE the one not tied to any contact).
Considering this issue happens even after a reflash and a hard reset I am thinking it has something to do with the facebook profile itself, as the Touch HD regional settings clearly don't affect it (I tried it with my local settings, UK settings and US settings).

With or without the fix posted in this thread?
Thanks
EDIT
nvm, just read his changelog
The integration works on the mvsc verion of duttys 2.3 but still has the problem of the long email address.
I have tried using a shorter email address and it works perfectly
Any update on this

Not only: i'm on Infido LP 2.1 and crashes all the same
duttys 2.3 doesnt 100% work for me either, most of it works apart from the my profile link with reboots tf3d, its the same place i am now with all the work ive been doin on my own rom, the only rom i have seen the my profile page work in is davide V2 topaz rom, ill have another look at duttys rom again because you people have made me doubt myself. i kinda given up hope on 100% working but im sure ill get it done, so far tho my volume down key is no more. lol

Same here, I can link contacts to FB friends, but my on updates causes Manilla to crash.
I'm starting to get really upset. :'(
I have to say this is very good news! Since I'm on old Dutty 1.9 ROM I won't test this just yet, but it definitively looks like a step in the right direction.
Facebook integration was the only big feature missing from these new ROM's. I hope other programmers will join so we can finally get this working 100%.
if anyone is out there with the my profile issue still i used this file from the latest rhodium dump and all is now working 100%
Hi everyone...
I am using at the moment a small program that copies all incoming sms in my calendar - it's just practical. The program is unfortunately not openly available. (and it does have a problem with the time zones)
But now after all the weekly flashing of new cooked roms, the call history always gets wiped. Does anyone know a resident software that collects both calls and sms (both in&out) in the calendar as events?
abe
Someone like this ?
http://www.freewarepocketpc.net/ppc-download-call-calendar.html
hmm, the download link doesn't work for me...
maybe any other ideas?
mfg
Well I'll give it a try this evening or tomorrow morning after I've flashed miri's newest
Anyway, seems that here would be some homesteading possibilities for someone to write an app to do both sms and call collecting. Of course with almost umlimited configuration possibilities
I would certainly want to work as a beta tester and feature designer for such an app.
After all, I'd say there are a lot of people who do not have office communicator for their private needs...

Is this the one we are talking about ?
A bit more description than just a downlink to a random program would be nice. Installing the .cab does not seem to do anything. Nothing in the start menu, nothing visible in the calendar after making a call...

Ive been using this chaps program - Very good!

Perform actions in 1st post of this thread. Works like a charm! (Thanks btong1978! ;.) )
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=548770
Only thing now, though, I can't figure out why web links that I click on in email messages don't open using Opera Mobile...still opens using Iexplorer Can anyone help??? Thanks!
PS - I love that btong1978's fixes allows EVERYTHING in the "Internet" TouchFlo tab to open using Opera...sweeeet ;.)
Oh - Also read through this thread [http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=550647&highlight=opera+mobile+default+web+browser], Contentryder. Seems to have some Cabs that may fix your issue (I say "may" b/c I've not tried it myself, but it all makes sense and seems to have put all of btong1978's fixes into a Cab file that takes care of everything for you w/o you having to get your hands dirty w/ reg edits ;.)
Happy tweaking!

I would like to merge text messages located on 4 devices:
1. WM5 phone
2. WM6.1 phone
3. Another WM6.1 phone
4. WM7 phone.
How do I do this?
I would like for all messages to be merged into one file, threaded and easily accessed for archive purposes. I didn't forward my WM5 messages to WM6.1 because that seemed unreliable when I researched it when I first got the WM6.1phone and searching now still gives various processes and I don't know if any will work moving forward to WM7. I would prefer not to send everything to a Gmail account and have my data mined...so...how do I do this?
I don't have the WM7 phone yet, but will. And, I have 20,000+ messages... I know some messages I have are duplicates (on the WM6.1 phones) so would like for the process/software to check for duplicates.
I doubt I would want to load the whole file on my WM7 phone as I am sure it would slow things down incredibly, however, an option to do that if I need to would be nice (or on a WM6.1 phone). I am looking for something to be able to access them all on a PC at least.
Thanks for considering this!
G.
For your SMS messages on your WM devices, you can use this software to perform successive backups and restores from your older devices to your current 6.1 device: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=299705. Start with the older one, backup then restore/merge to the next one, backup then restore/merge to the final 6.1 device. I would advise doing a separate backup on all devices just to be safe. Make sure you select the option to merge or add rather than delete messages on the device when restoring. Instructions are on the authors site: http://www.dotfred.net/default.htm
On WP7 however there is no way to backup or restore SMS at this time, dont think there is even a way to sync to an exchange server so accessing your older texts on your WP7 device will have to wait until a solution of some sort is found.
Thanks efjay! I saw that post but was concerned that it was a little buggy and didn't allow for editing on a PC. Also, does it check for duplicate texts--couldn't find it on the author's page nor a search of the original post? I do see it creates duplicate contacts and appointments which isn't encouraging. Of course I can use any of a number of programs for editing on my PC once I get them all in one place but would like to ask the community's help first and not waste time. Have you done what I am trying to do?
Thanks again!
G.
I dont know if it checks for duplicate texts, and the backups I've done have been with emails. Maybe exporting to a text file will make it easier to remove the duplicates.
However here is something else you could try. Download a trial for Resco Backup, which includes a desktop tool to view the backup sets, you may find it useful. I had to use this to restore some emails from my WM device some time back when they got deleted from the server. See how that goes.
What is it? Originally this was a direct extract of the Email.apk from Nexus One 2.3.4; but the most recent update uses a bug-fixed version extracted from CM7. Primarily because the text prediction bar works in this Email app; while it seems to be missing from all the SGS Gingerbread Email.apks.
Update November 3: I have been using CM7 and don't see myself switching back... CM rocks!!
Update June 6: New version extracted from CM7 nightly that appears to really fix the problem where Exchange email accounts stop syncing, requiring a reboot of the phone. I've been using this build 4 days without sync problem. Relevant threads HERE and HERE
As far as I know this will only work on a Gingerbread ROM. Install via CWM. The installer will attempt to ERASE your emails and email account settings from your phone. This keeps the system from getting all goofed up due to database incompatibilities between Email.apks (Thanks nitr8 and styxx!)
I tested this under Juwe's ROM v4.2 and under Darkys 10.1 against my office Exchange server. It seems to work great.
I am not a developer by any means. What I've posted here is something hacked together out of nothing more than dumb luck. (Really, all I did was extract the APK from the CM7 nightly and modify the menu xml files to link to APK internal PNG images rather than linking to the phone framework PNGs. No actual program code changes were made by me.) If it bricks your phone and your hair falls out... sorry, but don't come crying to me. You have been warned! If this app doesn't work for you, please post anyway so I can laugh at you... Errr... I mean, so I can try to help you.
May 8th update: Some of the menu icons were not showing up properly. Spent some time with APK Manager and figured out how to add in the missing icons.
looks fun
ive tried this and it looks good and works well. The major issue for me as with all the older email apps is there is no "Move to folder" option..... which absolutely drives me nuts. I had it until I tried using the TAB email app, then tried going back but keep getting this same apk and am missing this option. Its a real pain!
Funny, I didn't even notice the "Move to Folder" option was absent!
For me the text prediction was a huge issue, and it was really my only motivator for trying it out. I'm very happy with how quick and responsive this app is. With the stock app I would get lag at different times, especially noticeable when deleting multiple messages. This Nexus version seems to delete them instantly. I also really like having the check-mark boxes present on the message list.
I haven't tried the TAB email app, are you saying the move-to-folder option is missing from the TAB version as well? Have you tried the SGSII Email app from this thread?
good plan
the option was there in the tab email app and also in the newer one of the galaxy but I cant find the apk for that! that'll teach me to back them up! I'll have a look at that thread anyway and see where it leads. Thanks for your work and your assistance.
post a couple of screenshots please: ) otherwise thanks!
Thanks works great

THANK YOU. Samsung email client is sub-optimal. I feel like I can breath again. No more staring at the screen waiting to read an email.
Thanks for sharing !
Anyway, Landscape mode (as with Samsumg one) doesn't work with this Email.apk ... So I'll stay with my K9-mail app.

I use K9 for my personal email account, and the Nexus app for my work email account... and I don't see a difference in the way they handle landscape mode... so just curious, what am I missing?

It doesn't look significantly different. There are check boxes along the left edge of the message list view so you can quickly select multiple messages for deletion, otherwise it looks pretty much the same. The big difference is in how much more responsive it is over the Samsung client, and the fact that the keyboard text prediction bar works when using this email client.

There was a misunderstanding : Samsung app has a different landscape mode.
quick noob question. do i have to wipe anything before flashing this? I'm guessing no but want to be sure.
You need to flash the ZIP via from ClockworkManager, and it will attempt to wipe your email accounts to prevent force close issues due to email database differences between the Email.apk versions.

Thanks for posting this! I was killing myself trying to figure out why autocorrection and word prediction wasn't working on my gb rom. I installed it on my captivate running a gb rom (Serendipity VII). It works very nicely for me.
New version _actually_ seems to fix Exchange sync problem.
Thanks for the update. I had trouble getting it to connect over a good 3g signal, but it did so when I enabled wireless for the first sync. I hadn't noticed the synching problem but might not have used it long enough to see the problem. All seems to be working. This app is much nicer than the stock samsung email client in virtually every way. It is much more polished and easier to use. It would be nice if it didn't clear settings when updating over itself, but that is not a big deal.
It's a bit confusing in this thread, but I take it that this apk also lacks Move To Folder? That's a seriously useful feature and it might drive me back to stock on my Incredible just to get it back. Then, of course, I lost the ability to create private appointments in the calendar! Whee. Have you found a version yet that has this feature?
