X means close not minimize

Does anyone know of a util or hack that forces this. When I close something, I want it to close, not minimize.
From the home screen tap the HTC drop down, go to settings, click the button tab, change to "End programs by tapping "X".
Hmm, no dice. I should have said I'm running Valkyrie_v4.8 leo which is sense 2.5 and WM 6.5.1. There is an option under Settings | Task Manager | Button that says "Enable the "X" button to end running programs" which is checked then I checked "End programs by tapping "X"" which is also checked.
Neither option (Ending, or ending on long press) seems to close the program. Really sucks.
You could always try the app e-Natives Showcase. Tapping and holding gives you the option to minimize the window, killing the program, or go to a running programs list.

Another thumbs up for the showcase task manager.
I think I read somewhere that the reason the x doesn't close it is because the new 6.5 interface moved the X to the lower right of the screen, but the default task manager still looks for it in the upper right corner?

That's correct. Hopefully HTC will create another workaround once 6.5.1 and 6.5.3 eventually make it to devices (officially)

6.5.1 vs 6.5.3?

Hello guys,
I see ROMs and ppl talk about 6.5.3... what is new in this version? I saw some pictures they look the same as 6.5.1!
6.5.3 has the start menu button on the bottom of the screen

I'm confused as well.
WM 6.5.3 is anything from build 28002 onwards, but the bottom Start Menu was present WAY before that build. Which UI elements are new in build 28002-28014 that weren't present before? Wikipedia cites "a more finger-friendly user interface, support for gestures, and an improved address book", but these features were also present in previous builds.
Apparently the new keyboard is a feature of 6.5.3, but I've yet to hear mention of it in any of the 68002 - 68011 ROM threads I've visited...

I think the 6.5.1 has already the start menu button on the bottom of the screen, so this hasnt changed since then....
As i can see from photos, 6.5.1 have the Start button on top and 6.5.3 on the bottom of the screen... I Prefer 6.5.1 ... The start button on the bottom is ugly...
6.5 (build 21k) has the Start menu button on top. 6.5.1 (build 23k+) had it on bottom already, so BOTH 6.5.1 and 6.5.3 (28k) has it on bottom!

All I can say is press a little to the left of the keyboard symbol. You may need to use your nail to carefully tap the very left side of that keyboard symbol.
thanks mate. it works. fantastic. don´t know, why it didn´t work until now...

I myself got this issue as well. What worked for me is if I press the bottom most of the keyboard icon to get it to close. I pretty much have to press so far down I'm partially touching the middle of the zoom slider. That's what made it work for me.....

Also pressing the bottom of it works for me, I'm pretty much pressing the middle of the zoom slider but it closed. Strange.

Is it possible to switch between apps?

Lets say you have your notes, opera browser and a e-mail message all open. Can you "minimize" them and switch between them. I tried, but it kept closing them. I my previous phone (htc fuze), there was a "home" button on the button that you could hit at any time and it would take you to the main screen, then you could click up on the taskbar at the top and choose what open app you want to go to.
Am I missing something here? How do you do it on this "better" phone.
Thanks.
Go to your Task Manager settings. In the "Button" tab, either select "End programs by tapping and holding "X"" or disable "Enable the "X" button to end running programs".
Or you can just press the Home/EndCall button and then switch to the application you want using the HTC Task Manager.
Personally, I copy the file "TaskMgf.lnk" from the "\Windows\" to "\Windows\Start Menu\Programs\". And then I map the mute button to this link. So I just press the button when I want to switch between several opened applications.
i use this program...has a really nice and smooth transition between windows...
heres the write and the cab...

Fails to install on my Tilt2 stock ROM (Installation failed). I tried from both the SD and system and I am running .NET 3.5
when you're in those programs, just hit the home botton to get out of it but minimize it. Then you can click on the top right of the screen which is the taskbar, and you see a list of your programs running so you can click on whichever one you want..
Search for a file called ALTTAB.exe.
It will pop u a small window and show an icon where you can click.
It works exactly as it does in Windows, when you press "Alt" + "Tab"

And the "home" button would be which one?
task facade looks cool but how much memory does it use?
i like to keep it simple. I use Spb's Alttab (attached) and have Rhodium Keyboard Controller map my PTT button to alttab.
so when ever i wanna switch apps, just tap the PTT button and icons of all open apps show up on the screen, then either tap on the icon i want to open it, or press the PTT button again for the selection to move over. works perfectly!

the botton right on the phone in the middle of the phone and back bottons

Ok, so I opened up Opera and then clicked the "home" button. It shuts down the Opera browser.

the opera browser is usually still running. it is just hidden from the task list. I remember that there was a registry tweak somewhere to force it visible and some cabs made for it. so you would have to try another programs to test this function.

Yeah, you're right. It actually stays open although you don't see it in the taskbar.

Close camera with X

I saw this cab once but after about 4 hours of searching I can not find it. It is a cab that lets you close the camera directly from the capture screen. If anyone has it can you point me in the right direction?

Is that something that's not present in later WM versions? I'm running 6.1, and I can close the camera right from the capture screen just by hitting the little menu icon (right below the "capture" button on the screen), and when I do that, I get the 3 option icons across the bottom, along with an "X" in the top right for closing the camera app...that doesn't appear for you?

My WM6.5 works the same way.
Here's a tip for anyone who cares...
I personally find hitting the "X" a bit troublesome because you first have to hit the menu icon to bring up the "X".
So, I use the Rhodium Keyboard Controller to map the Back hardware key to "Close active window" whenever the Camera application is active.
All I have to do to exit and close the Camera app is to hit the Back key...

But you have to take pictures with your keyboard extended? Seems inconvenient.

I think he means the back key on the front of the phone, just to the left of the "end" key

As sirphunkee kindly noted above, I meant using the Back button on the face of the device.

I do the same but with a double tap of the end key. Easily my favorite feature of that software. To the OP though, the X shows up on the capture screen about 3-4 seconds after launching the camera (long hold on the PTT button with the RKC, love that software ), which actually closes the software instead of minimizing it like most other programs. At least on NRG roms anyway...
When I am in capture mode I have to push the little icon at the bottom that looks like a usb stick. Then the settings icons, the camera modes and somthing else comes up and then I get the X in the top corner.
