What is the different between the 2? I don't mean to sound stupid, but don't they both do the same thing?
I know to clear storage, i can do that from Settings, but to Hard Reset some people are suggesting to shut off the phone and hold Volume UP and Volume DOWN... all this stuff
don't they both do the same thing?
Yes, they both will do hard reset. But doing it via the button press combination enabled you to do it without going into the OS. It's helpful for when you messed something up so bad that your device won't boot.
oh okay... that makes sense, thanks man
The hard reset will actualy clear everything and make it like you just took your phone out of the box. Clearing storage will leave some things unchanged in the OS.

That's not true. Going to "Clear Storage", entering "1234", and tapping "yes" is equal to hard reset.

Leave what unchanged exactly?
Clear Storage takes it back to the default settings of the ROM. Everything 'reloads' so to speak just like after a hard-reset.
It's the equivalent of "Restore to Factory defaults" on other phones.
Exactly the same as an HR.
so even if i flashed 6.5 wwe, and have hardspl it will return it back to 6.1 "out of the box"

No... It's restored to factory-defaults only if you haven't already replaced the factory rom contents with a new rom.
perfect thats waht i needed to hear!
Does it matter if the memory card is in, it is not going to delete all the applications on it I guess. How about all the contacts, I couldn't find them on the phone, no idea where exactly they were stored

Contacts are stored on the device (I believe in a file called pim.vol at the root of the device), and will be lost of a hard reset is performed. There is a free program called PIMBackup which will back up and restore your contacts.
As far as having your SD Card in, it doesn't matter, I hard reset all the time, and don't lose any card data. However, if you've enabled storage card encryption, you need to disable it before your hard reset or you will lose all data on the card. This is because it will still be encrypted and your device will fail to read it, as it no longer knows the encryption key.

Thanks for the fast reply, it's relly helpful. I just found the encryption function, it was not enabled to begin with so I guess the card should be fine. Do I have to save PIMBackup on the phone or storage card will work?

Go to Start>Settings>System and there might be something like Encrypt Storage Card. But, I forgot that a lot of cooked ROMs leave this setting out, in which case you need not worry about it. Besides, you have to explicitly enable it, and I'm sure that if you did that you'd remember.

Keep your backup files on the storage card. Otherwise, they will be wiped out in the hard reset.
OK here is why I say a clear storage is different from a hard reset. KforTP was not working on my Sprint TP2. Normally during the install, it would say something along the lines for found "xxx.dll" and then would soft reset the device. Well it was not working. I tried 3 times to clear storage each time making it seem like it was set to factory default. How ever when I installed KforTP it would never or display the found "xxx.dll". The reason I did a clear storage was because I didn't even know about the hard reset.
Did some research found that hold call and end call then the power button would hard reset the device. Did that hit vol up to confirm restored the software and then the KforTP worked like a charm.
So my only logical conclusion was that a clear storage was not wiping everything.

Hi all,
This has happened twice in a roll now... I removed the battery to replace my SIM card the other day and after reboot, the internal storage was missing. I couldn't get it back online and had to do a hard reset. Everything (or at least it seem) went back to normal after that.
And I had to replace my SIM again today and the same thing happen!!!! The internal storage is gone again from file explorer and all the RAM management tools report it isn't there as well. The SD card though is showing up just fine, only the internal storage is missing... Is there any easy way I can bring it back online??? And anyone know what could of cause this?? Thanks!
Very strange behaviour indeed... Wish I could help... I remember changing my SIM once using my PDA2k, but everything was normal as it should be.
Good luck !
It's happened to me twice on my PDA2K in three months.
The only way I've found to get it back it a hard reset. Thank god for Sprite Back Up.
This was once discussed and we narowed it down to being O2Plus version screw up. Do you have that installed? If you do, then a hard reset IS THE only solution. Other than that, I have no other reasons why your storage drive would disappear.
Yup, I have O2Plus 1.6 installed... I just did a little test as well, right after the hard reset, I removed the battery again and everything seems fine, the storage is intact. And then I do a full restore with O2Plus 1.6 being there and the storage disappeared again after disconnecting the battery!
I think I removed the battery couple of times when I have O2Plus 1.5 and everything was fine then, so it's version 1.6 that's causing the problem???
Yes, I had a problem with 1.6 and missing storage as well. I stay away from O2Plus altogether, but some members have had success with v.1.5. But just make sure to have a backup handy just in case.
this might be a little off topic just cuz i use a different phone but the same thing happend to me. i use the 4100 audiovox i presed the reset button along with the rocker button i got the boot loader.
there is an option to format the flash in there. after doing so it did come back. i dontknow if this will help you or not but good luck if u havent already .
Hmm....
I have this problem even when I am not running O2Plus....
I use Magician
Diamond Missing internal storage
I have discovered the same issue of the Internal storage missing, I have tried flashing it with the latest and greatest firmware and nothing appears to bring it back. It just does not show up when the phone and when I go to memory it just says that the Internal Storage card is not installed.
Any help would be fantastic.
I do not have any other applications installed (including 02Plus)
Hi
In the last week or so my SD card has suddenly started disappearing until I soft reset the device. If I remove and reinsert a different card this also does not appear. The only way I have found to resolve the problem is to do a soft reset. It will then be visible for a day until it disappears again.
I haven't been able to narrow it down to a specific application or action.
Has anybody else seen this (or even better know what the problem may be?)
I have had the same problem i found it to be "Spb ToPlay" everytime i used it if i stopped it playing i lost all sound on my XdaIIs and the SD card went missing. removed the plug-in and havent had the problem since...........................do you have this plug-in? if you dont then i have no idea sorry i couldnt help.
I have recently installed spb time but it doesn't conincide with my problems starting. I may try disabling it to see if that makes a difference.
this has happened to me before, but i didnt have anything like you mentioned installed, so it must be a bug or something!!!
I found on my M1000 that the card will not be visible when the battery gets low, most times it gives a message like "the power is too low to support the device"
Happens to me with my O2 XDA IIs. When I contacted O2 about it, guess what their reply was?
Reply number 1:
"Thank you for choosing O2!
With regards to your query below, you may like to remove your storage card and monitor the device. Please note that O2 Asia has tested with different brands of 256MB SD card and works fine. However, storage card of larger size may not work properly and cause the device to hang. You may also like to test your unit with another storage card to verify. Hope the above information is useful for you. Thank you."

"With regards to your query below, you may like to perform a hard reset and
without restoring back any data back to the phone, try to change the
landscape again and see if the problem still persist.
**To perform a full reset:
Warning: Clearing memory deletes all data and restores the Pocket PC Phone
to its default settings. Programs installed at the factory remain, while
data you have created and programs you have installed are erased.
Before performing the full reset, use ActiveSync to keep a backup of your
Pocket PC Phone data so that if you need to clear memory, you can restore
the data on your Pocket PC Phone.Do not use Xbackup on your device to do
backup for your data.
To perform a full reset on XdaIIs, press and hold the power button, and then
use stylus to press the soft reset button at the same time. After the full
reset, you will be prompt to recalibrate the touch screen.
Hope the information is useful to you. If you have any further enquiries,
please feel free to contact us."
What a load of crap!
For the second time in a few months, I cannot access any of the settings on my Dash running WM6.0. For example, if I press the # key to change the profile to "vibrate" it changes, then shifts right back to my outdoor profile. If I try to access the alarm, it says "error, the settings could not be opened" And I get the same error on trying to change any setting, like even a ring tone.
Last time, I completely reloaded the entire OS, reinstalled all my apps, etc.
Is there an easier way to fix whatever file(s) is screwed up?

I will recommend you to do a hard reset, If that does not works make a back up of your files and reflash your rom again. It really does not take much time to do it, I bet trying to resolve every issue in your settings at this point is much longer than fashing your rom.

Before doing the said Hard Reset, back up your files. A Hard Reset WILL DELETE ALL YOUR FILES AND REVERT TO THE MOMENT THE ROM WAS INSTALLED (it will rerun the connection setup, etc.)
OK, I took y'alls advice and flashed the ROM. But first, I backed up pim.vol, my ringtones, and a couple of application files in main memory, and I made sure that the .cab files for my apps were all on my storage card. Once I flashed the ROM, I just restored the pim.vol, ringtones, etc., then reinstalled the apps from the storage card. It really wasn't very hard. Activesync seems happy and all is good.
Thanks for the advice.

Good to know that you solved your problem.
Hi,
Does anybody has solution for this?
cZyNo
You could try a hard reset...maybe that might work but you will lose all your files stored on your device. However you could take out the storage card that way the files on the storage card would be safe.
What files are you trying to save?
Yes i think what he means was to take files (backup) from locked phone, if you hard reset it, you'll loose anything except files that stay on storage card.
If you're only talking about the lockscreen, then you will have to perform a hard reset to get around it. Hopefully you haven't encrypted the files on your SD card. If so, you will loose those too. Next time, try a different lock program like S2U2 for a better UI as well as no real problems with it forgetting your password. You can also get around it if you forget your password.
This is a common problem with this phone and why I will never use a password on it. Not sure what the cause is, but a hard reset is your only option.
This matter had also making me curiously, searching whole source in the net, still the answer is no way except doing hard reset.
My phone acting weird. Once it moved on it's own. don't think im getting all the calls. Like it's been filtered or something.Use 2 anti vireses programs. Maybe im being paranoid or something. Anti Viruses an android willo only slow down your device... youdont need an anti-viruses.
If you download some cracked apk or apps that arent form that play store, these app can modify your phone.
For the phone calls that you are not getting all of them, its kind of wierd.
If i where you, i would factory reset my my phone.
Are you on Android 4.3?
If yes here's how to do a factory Reset:
Go into settings > Accounts (Tabs) > Backup and reset and click on Factory Data Reset.
*** WARNING ***
THIS PROCEDURE WILL DELETE EVERY DATA ON YOUR INTERNAL STORAGE ON YOUR PHONE (your SD Card Data will not be Deleted)
So make shure that you do a backup of your data before doing that.
And wait till its done
And now it should work!

I don't agree about not needing an antivirus, but you certainly don't need two of them. I do agree that the best way to fix your phone is by doing a factory reset. And like what was said, it will delete all of the storage on your phone, so make sure you backup anything you want to save before proceeding.
You can use an app such as MyBackup from the playstore to backup most of your information. Just remember to move or copy the folder called "reware" off of your phone into a safe place (like your computer) after the backup, if you choose to use that app.

anti-viruse or not... i think its a personal choice... personnally, i know what files that are on my phone, i know files that i download. So, for me its not userfull. AND BEFORE INSTALLING ANY APPS I READ THE APP ACESS: this app will get acess to... : Anti-Virus on android are not very userfull for me exept to slow down my phone. But if you are the person who download random stuff and install random apps for shure that you need an anti-virus But still, its a personnal choice. But if you want to MAKE SURE at 100% that your phone is safe you could install an antivirus (avast is the best one on the market!!)

Agreed. Two antivirus is definitely over kill...both on practicality and on the battery. Unlike Windows, some basic attention to what you are downloading and installing along with paying attention to permissions will protect you more than any app. If you are paranoid, one antivirus is enough.
And factory reset is probably the only way to fix the issue as already stated. Sometimes starting fresh is the only way to fix issues...even on android.
