Anytime I plug in the phone via the usb cable to my pc it just starts to charge and the icon only shows the charging icon. I have tried unchecking the fast sync option in USB to PC section but still nothing I have tried it on 3 different computers and 2 different cables and still no detection only the light starts to charge and the icon shows the charging plug. I also tried my headset and they get detected with no problem and work just fine. I also did a hard-reset so should I just call T-Mobile and get another one? or someone out there has a solution? Thanks in advance for any help you guys might be able to offer!
Which Windows do you have. I had the same problem on Windows Vista
I have Windows 7 and vista
If I have to send it back anyone know if I can relock the phone with out it being synced? I already have original T-Mobile rom on it just missing the splash screens and to lock it.

did you make sure you have the latest version of windows mobile device center installed on your pc and the latest service pack for vista. not sure about 7 though. plugged mine in for the first time and it came right up.
Try unistall all your USB drivers using this:
http://www.nirsoft.net/utils/usb_devices_view.html
and than plug your phone in
i have this exact same problem and cant connect in disk drive, active sync, or interenet sharing. i think its a problem with a bad hardspl flash but since i cant connect and sync the phone I cant reflash the spl.
this sucks. no way to recover from this i believe.
Is it possible to SPL from the SD Card? Espically after you have allready done the SPL from the PC? Check the thread, I think you will find it is possible. If not they might be able to send you a new image file...
Good Luck!

thats what i was wondering. but is there a spl .nbh file around here?
hey sphinx, also whenever i plug in the usb cable to the charger and plug it in, i get the usb to pc pop-up as if i plugged it into the pc, do you have this as well, and cant seem to charge past 49% capacity.
Just tried the usb driver removal but that didn't help either I tried on 4 computers now and all do the same the phone just goes into charging and the computer never sees it this really sucks... I HardSPL my phone as soon as the HardSPL was available and everything was working fine but now for some reason it just stopped working.

I tried to upgrade my rom but the process crashed. The utility mtty doesn't work because when I connect the universal, boatloader mode by the cable, to the pc, it says "USB not recognized" (sometimes when I connect the computer is frozen till I disconnect the cable of the universal)
Please, I tried to have some solutions in the forum but all the posts indicates is needed previously the usb connection.
Do you know if should be possible to run the flash of the rom in other way, for example using a serial cable connected into the miniusb of the universal, because the boatloader screen says "Serie, v.1.01"
I apprecite what you can say please, I'm really in a hole.
Try this...
Try taking out the battery for a few minutes (10-30mins) and reboot your PC then repeat upgrade process. Hope that helps. Good luck!!!
I have the same problem on my PC at work, it's caused by a poor USB chipset in the PC, or trying to connect through a USB hub.
The only thing I found that worked was to try a different PC, then it was fine...

In my case it still happening in other computers. Conclussion: some piece of the software in the universal has been lost. The screen shows "Serial" that means on some way that is opened to comunication but not USB.
My questions are:
- should be possible to put some starting software in SD and do the universal boot on it.
- do you know how to connect to the computer COM! port from the usb miniport of the Universal.
I appreciate, I was not planning to replace now the Universal...

Now works.... I still thinking windows is so stupid software made for distroy our mind ....
Solved after install drivers for a converter usb -rs232 ( I was looking for the way to connect from rs232 the universal)
I'm happy again and I promise don't try to change rom again (at least for a while)

I want to say that is running after doing some things and obviously some of it solved my problems. I made:
- unistall last version of activesync and go back to version 4.0
- delete all the applications using ports usb.
due the connection still not running (windows message: device not recognized) and because in the screen of universal I saw: "COMM1" I tried to connect from computer port rs232. By that I purchased some special cable, name: hama brand, rs232 serial, 9 pin - usb.
As you can imagine all the steps I followed were followed by the typical restart of windows. In this sense is important to say that the universal, after connect, need to do a soft reset each time (again windows....)
Other comment is that I unmark the option to connect by usb in activesync and mark the connection by com1.
and after all was done, connecting by usb the unniversal, kill wcescomm, windows said "NEw usb device, sync device". I started mtty and now appears the USB option, great! same time the screen in universal changed from comm1 to usb, more great....
and that's all.
does it mean you solve your problem using special USB 2 RS232 connector?
ZeD
PS: it was my first idea , but i still believe i can solve the problem using USB port

I have had the same problem several times now (search the forum for the thread).
I tried three different PC's/laptops and three different USB cables all with the same error as yourself.
Eventually I got a connection but the laborious process of trying - failing, restarting windows and soft resetting the phone, trying - failing........... until it finally worked. I did nothing differently the time that it worked but the strange thing is that it has worked every time since! Maybe the USB driver the phone has a bug in it that causes it to get 'stuck' in a mode where it will no longer correctly operate but once you have managed to 'kick' it into action it seems toi then carry on working.
It was also a ROM upgrade that caused my USB phone driver to stop functioning. Maybe the fact that the phone has a slightly diffferent software configuration after the upgrade but exactly the same hardware fingerprint causes the driver to fail.
Every time that I have had this problem it is after an upgrade but once I have gotten it to work once with the new ROM, it always continues to function - until the next upgrade.

If you're stuck in bootloader mode only, visit www.buzzdev.netand look for ExitBootloader utility written by the great Buzz. Just follow his instructions or scroll thru' Universal's forum here and there for problems relating to "stuck in bootloader"
hope this helps
no device is not recognized by PC so any trying to use exitbl is not available, anyway this option was one of the first what i have tried
thanx anyway

i had the same problem with the QTEK of my principal after I upgraded his ROMs.
(after the hard reset, the pocket remained in bootloader mode).
you can solve this problem in a very simple way:
you have to launch the bootloader installation (BL1.01_RUU_UNI_V.1.2.EXE) from the PC (still connected with the PPC through USB) while the PPC is in bootloader mode (on your display you see "USB > Serial 1.01" or something like that).
then you do a SOFT reset and the pocket boot normally.
very simple.
i hope to be helpful to someone.

I had some problem. After uninstall all usb applications in the pc and install the software for cable usb -rs 232, doing some softreset in the pda connected, it turned the screen message "Com" by "Usb"
Title explains most of the problem, my phone wont connect to my pc using active sync. If I plug it in, the device shows it is charging, but I cant get anything else, no disk drive, no active sync, no internet sharing. I thought at first it was a USB problem on the phone, but it charges fine on all chargers and even charges on the PC.
so question is, what can I do to make it work and I need to change the spl to .82 (tmobile stock) so i can do a warranty exchange. Any one know if I can flash SPL from sd card like I can on Android devices.
Currently I have spl .79 , the stock winmo 6.5 tmobile rom and latest tmobile radio.

Before you go to extremes, have you you tried changing the USB to PC settings? Try this:
Uncheck the box that says "Enable faster data syncronization", unplug, replug. No dice?

yea, no luck. Ive done a system restore on my PC and all. My PC has been freaking out lately and I am in safe mode right as a matter of fact removing some junk and what not. It will detect the phone, but then when it is installing drivers for it, it ALWAYS fails. no matter what USB port. I have even tried other computers and no luck with that either. I am pretty sure its the USB port on the phone.
so it leads me to my question, can i flash to the .82 SPL from my sdcard or am i pretty much just SOL
Ironic......
I have a similiar but different problem.
I need to do a warranty exchange because my touch screen has stopped working. Unfortunately the last time I used my phone I used internet sharing so now whenever I attach via usb it comes up as internet sharing and it will not let me change it to Activesync. I need to put the stock rom back on the phone so I can send it back. I'm stumped......

All you need to do is boot into the bootloader (turn off the device, then press power while holding [Volume down]), plug the device into your computer, and flash as usual. Just make sure you put back the appropriate stock SPL (which can be found in the HardSPL thread) after you flash back to the stock ROM, if the stock ROM you're flashing doesn't include it. You can verify that you have a stock SPL by looking at the bootloader, since a stock SPL will not say OliNex anywhere.
palosjr: AFAIK, there's no way to flash an SPL via SD card on the Rhodium, or most HTC Windows Mobile devices for that matter. I would highly recommend finding another computer, like one at your local library, to flash the SPL with.

It wont be detected by any computer. It only charges. For some reason it wont detect as a USB device, it always fails to load the drivers. I am going tomorrow to a DrCellPhone place to have them see what they can do with it, if it is the USB its 25 to get it replaced with a new warranty.
funny, I have exactly the same problem with the same device, everything is working (charge the battery, headphones via mini usb, ...) but I can not sync with my pc. I hoped that I need a special HTC usb cable for that?!
But I assume, that I have this problem due to the fact that I charged the battery with 5V and 2 Ampere ... maybe that has broken one connector?

Thanks. This worked perfectly!!
Hey there.
Ok I have a problem. I have had my touch pro 2 for about 6 months now and i am really happy with it, but recently i have ran into a problem.
My phone won't connect to my computer anymore! Not just my computer... no computer at all. Not just activesync, no, it doesn't recognise it at all, not even as a disk drive.
I doubt its the cable because it does charge, and i have tried another cable (not a htc cable but its a cable with the same plug, its from my external harddrive) and it still didn't work.
I also tried a hard-reset on my phone, but still... nothing.
Ive read somewhere that you should push the usb connector a bit up, i did that, but nothing (now the usb connector seems wiggly... glad it still charges though) i have no idea what it could be and i thought i'd post here first before going back to the dealer with it. Because without usb connection i can't install costum roms and that we wouldn't want that, do we?
Well, hope one of you guys can help!
That's very strange I have had it once, but that was due to the rom I used. I flashed another rom and it worked again.
What you could try is to download a new rom and put it on your sd car using this:
http://www.julien-manici.com/windows_mobile_wifi_remote_access/
This let's you put stuff on your mobile using wifi. It's worth a try.
But you have to install roms directly from your pc to your phone, while being connected to USB right? The standards htc roms for example can only be installed that way i think... or can you also copy the .exe to your device and run that?
i'll give it a go when i get home. Thanks =]
I am having the same issue here. All of a sudden my PC or Laptop doesn't see the phone at all but it does charge with no issues. When I plug it in I don't even get the sound that the PC knows something was jut plugged into it.
go to settings - connection - usb to pc - untick the enable faster synchronization box
that should do it
As long as you have Hard SPLed your Rhodium you should be able to use the sd card method to install a rom instead of using the PC and usb connection.
You copy the rhodium.nbh file to the root directory of an sd card formatted FAT32 and then boot into bootloader - volume down and power button when off.
Follow the onscreen prompts...
Cheers...

What's interesting with my Tilt2 (not the OP) was that I wanted to flash my ROM with the new AT&T "unofficial" ROM and that's when I found out I couldn't tether. I basically just wanted to tether my phone so I could put that new ROM onto the phone to see if I could make it more reliable and faster. Sigh.
it actually might be the cord...
The same exact thing happened to me... my phone charged with the cord but no computer recognized it...
I bought a new usb cable from radio shack and viola it worked again... so I advise u just trying a new one and if it doesn't work take it back... but try the unchecking the "check for faster sync" box first like someone said bc that do stop it from being recognized sometimes...

Yes, this has (almost) always fixed the issue for me. Somehow WDC becomes blind to new device inserts after you plug-unplug them several times.
Slow but stable is better.
I was trying to put the hum/hiss sound fix on my sd card and I cannot get my pc to connect via USB...
My wife has a TP2 and it connects fine...
I have tried with/without the sd card in, rebooted the pc and phone, rebooted the phone while connected to the pc.... nothing...
wtf...
anyone else with this problem?
PS... NRGZ28 had posted a very basic rom for booting to android back in Feb and it is now gone from hotfile. Anyone know of a quick boot into android?
- Try a different computer
- Try a hard reset
That are the first thing you should do.
Tried hard reset...
Dif PC is not an option at the moment... I have rebooted...
Just flashed the ROM (NRGZ newest, thank goodness I had it on my SD card) and I still cant get it to sync...
I have attached the USB error I am getting... (Win7, new install)
The phone is not asking if I want to active sync or use as storage???? wtf...

Try this:

dont think thats working yet
Ya I don't think that works yet, it's tied to Android software drivers and the use of the USB port, since there is no drivers to control the port only to charge battery. Windows thinks there is something there, but the phones USB can't communicate back....I think this is the issue or at lease after playing around with it on my phone anyway
Not that it's a huge amount of help but might troubleshoot down to the hardware level...if you go into bootloader mode on the phone and connect to USB does it connect?
I don't think you should go that deep and dirty. My touch pro 2 works only with only 1 (non-HTC) cable of the 10 i have at home, all are the "standard" mini-USB but only one works flawlessly for communicating/flashing/syncing, the other cables either do the same error - device not recognized - or windows says that the device could communicate faster - and only copies files slowly.
All in all: you should simply check with another USB cable or if you have the factory HTC cable try it with that. I noticed that the cable i am using other than the HTC one is a very good quality thick (low-resistance and double-shielded) USB cable and it never failed on me.
One other thing you should definitely watch for: plug the USB cable into the motherboard USB port directly (on the back of the PC where you plug the keyboard, mouse etc.), sometimes PC cases with front panel USB outputs simply die, or are wrongly attached to the motherboard USB header and it can cause the aforementioned problems too, not to mention if it is wrongly attached it could harm your phone too.
Installed the tmobile samsung galaxy SII USB drivers , I am using windows vista and it does not recognize the phone. I tried another vista computer it still can not recognize it. I tried an XP computer, it still can not recognize the phone.

Still no luck
any suggestions will be appreciated

since you install the drivers into multiple computers and tested them all... it might be your phone.
First can you give more detail on what happens when you plug your phone in? Does your computer make any sounds or searches anything?
ALSO Try installing kies.
if that doesn't work either... looks like you need a warranty exchange
Try using an oem Samsung usb to micro usb cable. I had this problem with my Samsung Galaxy Epic a while back. Everytime I used a generic cable lying around my computer would not recognize my phone. When I used a Samsung cable it worked. Your computer should automatically identify your phone using the right cable. If not re-install them and don't forget to restart your computer before attempting to connect to your computer again. Good luck.
I've had this problem too.
Initially I had kies installed and had to launch the program to access the two 'mounted' removable drives.
I assume the drives mount, but you can't access the drives?
If that's the case, look on the phone and pull down the status bar and check to see if it sees the USB connection. Select that, and allow it to connect as USB storage.
thanks guys for all the quick response.
The problem seem to fix itself. After removing and attaching the USB cable a number of times, the PC suddenly recognized the phone.
I don't know what fixed it.
Now, I can proceed to root my phone!

you probably didn't give it enough time for the pc to actually install the needed components.. it takes a good 5-10 mins for everything to finish installing
I'm faced with the same problem. Only different is, as soon as it shows connect to usb from the notification bar if goes away. I tried the usb tool in wireless but still wont work. I tried the samsung cable as well
know it sounds dumb, but have you rebooted lately? mine wouldnt recognize the sd card when plugged into comp....rebooted....all is well
