Help with Mobile Firefox/Fennec install - Touch CDMA Windows Mobile ROM Development

So I had been doing some searching and can't seem to find my answer, so here is my question. I have downloaded both mobilefox 2.0.0.7 and Fennec. I can unzip the programs but when I try to load them on either of my phones, Vogue and Raphael, I get the same error message " 'startmobilefirefox' is not a valid Pocket PC application." I have unzipped it on the phones and on my computer (then transferred it over) and I still get the same message. Am I doing something wrong?

Sounds like you might have the wrong files. The WinMo files should be packaged as a cab file and once transferred to the phone will trigger the installer on the phone.
When I checked the Mozilla ftp site, they had builds for a number of different platforms. Look for the .cab ones.

I was able to find a Fennec Cab file when searching on google. Fennec is only good for the HTC phones that have a Keypad. It doesnt work on my Vogue but it does work on my Raphael. Only issue is that now that my wife and I have tried it out, its not working properly. It takes about 1 min for it to pull up and run but, when I try to load a website it doesnt load any pages. All of this is only due to myspace wont load on any other browser on her phone. Time to see if I can find another browser that will allow her to get on myspace.

Can't download files from the net.....

I did some looking around and haven't found a solution to this problem so I figured I'd go ahead and ask.
My wife has the Dash. I was trying to download some new themes for her phone directly from this site the same way I do for mine on my Wing. For some reason her phone won't allow me to download anything. I'm doing this via our Wifi connection at home, so I'm sure that's not the problem. I also downloaded the same file on my Wing to confirm it and of course the Wing had no problem.
Is there some kind of Smartphone vs. PPC thing that I don't know about when downloading files from the net?
I have the same problem using HTC Vox (original rom). I tried to download any file but PIE or Opera gave me an error that I cannot download these files. It does not matter which kind of file it is.
By default you can download only a few file types. Please check this http://www.modaco.com/content/Smart...Standard-devices-Review-of-Opera-Mini-4-beta/ for a solution. There is a freeware at http://www.smartmadsoft.com/products.html#feadie can help too.
Reason #213 why my wife wants to get rid of her Dash.

Activesync upgrade problem

Hey everyone, this is my first post here so I'm not entirely sure this is the right place to pose this question. Earlier today, I made the decision to upgrade my Dash to WinMobile 6.1 using the resources here at this forum. The upgrade went nearly flawlessly with the excption that I need to copy the correct keyboard settings cab file still. However, I'm unable to do that because of Activesync.
I had 4.2 installed on my laptop and it never gave me any problems. Unfortunately, the phone displayed a message that I needed to upgrade to 4.5 in order to connect to the PC using Activesync. I downloaded the file from Microsoft's website and tried to run the install program. After clicking the "install" prompt, I get the following error message: "The System Cannot Open the Device or File Specified" Retry or Cancel. Retry gets me no where. I have spent at least 5 hours not trying to find a solution to this problem including a LOT of searching on Google, here, Microsoft's site and other places. NOTHING. I've seen a couple of references to this problem but no definitive solution to the problem.
A few things I have tried: Disable Firewall; uninstall Activesync 4.2 (curiously, after using the Add/Remove Program tool in the Control Paner, there was still an Activesync folder and dozens of files on my hard drive...I manually deleted as many of these as I could); Ran a file called "fixmapi.exe"; and I downloaded the upgrade file from multiple sources, all of which were suggestions I came across during the day.
I'm sooo frustrated because I can't update the keyboard map, I cant synchronize the hundreds of contacts and calendar items I have in Outlook, the phone feels completely useless to me at the moment and I cant believe that this is such an unusual problem (which is my conclusion based on such a complete lack of guidance on this issue).
anything anyone can offer will be HUGELY appreciated!

Touch Pro 2 and iPlayer

Delete thread please
I tried when I first got the thing, going through installing all my must-haves. It threw an exception error, one of those that asks you to report it to MS and closes the program. I guessed it probably needed .netCF 3.5 framework, but the only cab I've got for that at the moment is "not digitally signed with a trusted certificate" so I can't test it until I get a cab that is, or install via activesync/WMDC. Just haven't got around to it yet.
It seemed to run OK and graphically it fitted the WVGA res perfectly...until you try to play a programme.
Can anyone else confirm that it works/doesn't work?

question about installing something

I tried to install the FM radio cab onto my phone, but when I go to run the setu up, I get an error message saying "there is no application associated with (this file), run the application first, then open the file from within the application.
What should I do?
Thanks!!
What kind of file is it? .cab or .exe? If it's a .exe then run it from you're computer. Make sure you got active sync working
thanks for respoinding
It's a cab file.

.cab files need to be moved to the phone (best to make a folder on the SD card just for that), and run from there.
hi
I tried that, but when I try to run the file on the phone, I get that message. It won't work! If it helps, I'm trying to use one linked to on the thread titled "htc does have an fm radio". I'd really like to get this working!
Thanks!
hmmm
Now when I click on the setup file, it tries to open the Opera browser, but all I get is a blank page and nothing happens!

Do other .cab files behave this way when you try to run them on your phone? It sounds like the one you downloaded might be corrupted..? Your phone should run it directly with no problem as long as the file extension is still ".cab"
I would try a soft-reset, and then try the copy I have attached here instead of the one you first grabbed (it's the same file, but I know this copy works ok). You'll just have to unzip it and then move the cab to your phone.
hey
THANK YOU! The file you linked worked perfectly! Thank you again.... I really appreciate it. So gratifying to finally have it work. I still miss my MDA and Wing for many reasons, but I'm feeling a little better about the TP2...

Glad to help
I had a wizard (which I think was the same phone as the MDA), and nothing will take the special place it will always have in my heart. However, the TP2 does a damn good job of carrying that torch
yep
The Wizard is the MDA... it was my first touch screen/windows PDA... I'll never forget how excited I was to get it... I miss the nav pad a lot though.... and they removed the IR port (not that I used it) and the camera flash (not that it was very effective)... I don't think new phones should have features removed that their predecessors had... I had to fight Tmo to get a decent price on my TP2 (and I was still raped, and I'd been with them for 10 years) and then the touch screen stopped working completely after a few weeks... Never had that problem with the Wizard (MDA) or Herald (Wing) and I had them for years.... that combined with no nav pad and NO TAB KEY haven't made me fall in love with this device!

Installation of cab files throws errors

Hi. I just recently purchased an HTC Touch Pro2 from T-Mobile running WinMo 6.5. That being said, I have not been able to open any cab files on the device to install some software. Basically I'll transfer the cab to the device and attempt to open it. I get one of three messages depending on the app I guess. the most basic is "Installation was unsuccessful" to "Installation was unsuccessful. The program or setting...not digitally signed...trusted certificate" (this was from MobileFTPClient). Installing Opera Mini 5 gives a simple: "Installation of mini5wm.cab was unsuccessful".
Ok, so being a software developer for 10 years I've been looking into some registry values and can't seem to find what I need to get anything to install. If I download from the Windows Marketplace that's all good, but nothing else.
What do I need to do to be able to install cab flils directly? Honestly if I can't get this to work this phone is going back. I moved from an iPhone to this phone specifically so I can install apps and monkey around with the device, but so far I'm done before I started.
Thanks for any info you can give me.
its in one of your phone/device settings to let u download and install apps or cabs not digitally signed. thats all, i believe. just find it and check it off. or look for advanced config cab if u can find it and install that. it has an option in there also to let u download/install whatever..

The cab I have attached may help you...it's some SDK certificates that will allow installation of certain unsigned apps, but I don't know if this is what the ones you're running are requiring and missing. It won't harm anything to try this one, and you can easily uninstall it if it doesn't do the trick
Thanks guys. Sirphunkee - that cab actually installed, but I'm having the same problem. Another forum has suggested that I take the device back to T-Mobile, but it just seems like there's a setting that's not right in the OS. Demandarin - I've looked for various security permissions in the UI with no luck. I've mucked around with some Policy values in the registry per some threads on this forum, but still nothing.
I'll keep trying, and thanks.
So...weird; Opera Mini and Weather Bug (well known apps) wouldn't install, but an SMS notification disable cab installed (from the xda site) as did Evernote (evernote.com). I have no clue what the deal is, but it's getting beyond stupid that I can't install just any cab file.

Have you already installed .Net 3.5? It's a framework that many other programs use (and need) to install, and it's not on the TP2 by default...it's the only other think I could think of that would keep you from installing stuff. Cab is attached, if you don't have it already.
Got it. I installed the Device Security Manager PowerToy and was able to change the configuration there. Opera Mini 5 just installed.
Never would have thought the phone would come that locked down, but so far so good. Thanks for all of the ideas.

Well yeah what's weird is that I never had to use that to get any of those apps installed
