I'm hoping someone can help me. On my old HTC Advantage, I used to have my Windows Live Messenger and my twitter application opened from boot up. I would regularly watch videos, listen to music, surf the net all while both appliactions remained in the background. On my Advantage I had 128 mb of RAM and had no problems juggling these apps. On my Tilt 2 I have double the ram but my background applications keep closing on me. When I check my available ram, I have more than I had available on my Advantage. I've had to resort to using Everapp to keep my windows live open. Does anyone have any idea why this is happening?

I just noticed that suddenly Google Services start using more data over the few days period. Previously it was not the case. Currently data usage is around 220 MB for 14 days, out of total 99 MB has been used by Google Services and all data usage is in background. I doubt it might be one of major reason, I start loosing my battery less than day.

Recently I did not install any new application which is main culprit of this.
For record purposes, I am using GSM 4.0.2
Waiting for your feedback.
Do you have google music syncing?
No. Don't have Google Music Sync
What does it list? Mine says 0 foreground and 1.04 mb in the background for an entire month. Listed is Bookmarks sync, account manager, services framework, contacts sync, network location.
Did you clear all of your contacts from your phone? Do you have a couple thousand contacts with pictures?
It mentioned contact bookmarks and all in background 100 Mb in 14 days.
Don't have thousand of contacts with photos only 20 to 25 max
perhaps any other things you are syncing? (google+ for example?)
Did you ever find out what was causing the issue? I've noticed the same thing recently and haven't been able to track down why Google Services is suddenly using so much data.
Backing up application data perhaps?

How to check it? There is no change in installed apps recently.

Tried turning that off and it didn't help much. Still on the same pace for data usage as zoobihoobi. Google services has used 100Mb in 7 days and last month it used 11Mb for the entire month.
Similar issue
I've gone from 3-5mb monthly to 80 in 6 days, an then it has tapered off again so that it's back to much the same. Any ideas?
I have the same issue here. 134 Mb consumed in the last 6 days.
I am constantly installing and updating apps, so maybe one of these apps is very hungry, but how can I check this out?
It's getting on nerves now....No way to find the culprit and usage data is increasing day by day....
Same here. 0 foreground data, 68M background data over the last 5 days.
Sent from my Galaxy Nexus using XDA
Ditto here:
0.00 Foreground & 60.75MB in 7 days with no significant changes in apps etc.
Same issue here. Google services consumed, in background, 32mb in 5 days.
Galaxy nexus.
Possible Clue to the enormer data consumption
Hi,
I have the same problem with my G Nex. Went from about 5MB/month to 80Mb/week and 21MB used only yesterday.
I found a possible cause on the galaxynexusforum. I can't post links in this forum yet, so go to the forum and search for a thread titled: "problems with google services framework"
In this thread it has been suggested that it may have something to do with the syncing of the stock browser. And indeed, when I went to the sync setting, the only indicator of currently syncing was shown next to the browser. I deactivated it. I will report back in a day or two, if that was any help.
Meanwhile, maybe some of you want to give it a shot as well.

Well... Noticed as well. Google services now reaching around 300MB since 15/03 ... Something is not right... I have no syncing except Gmail (email, calendar)...
I have a problem like this before, some exchange services was using huge amounts of data and battery constantly...
What I did was disable my Exchange Mail accounts.. (remove them)... After I confirmed that was the problem, I re-added my exchange accounts and the problem hasn't reoccurred..
Very new to Android, and once again I'm not sure if this is Android or an OGP function...
I'm confused as to what the purpose is of all of the separate tasks, task manager, and running app screens that are on the phone....
When I hit and hold the home button, I get a list of recently used apps. Are they running in the background, or is it just a list of closed apps (or a combination of the two)? Is this solely so I can get to a recently opened app a bit faster? It seems to be just as fast to re-launch these apps from the home screen.
If I hit "Clear all" the list empties. But, if I then hit the button directly to it's right "Task Manager", I see a list of apps that are still running, with the option to "stop" each one separately or "stop all". I thought I had just stopped everything when I had "cleared" the list. I guess not.
So, after hitting "Stop all" I get a message on the screen that says "No applications". There are 0 applications running, and the Ram numbers are: RAM 1.46GB used, 550MB free. So, i'm guessing that even though I stopped all of these running apps, there is still stuff running like the OS and other programs. What then is this Task Manager supposed to be used for? Why are the apps I just "stopped" on this screen, and not on the Settings/Apps/Running page?
I then immediately go to Settings, Apps, Running. This list shows 22 apps currently running. I'm assuming these are things that need to run so the phone doesn't crash, and so it will perform properly. But, of the 22 that are running right now I have Redbox listed (The DVD movie rental kiosks), Norton Mobile Security (which I can understand why it is still running), Google Maps (this is listed twice with different amounts of memeory and time open listed), On-Screen Phone (no idea what that is), and a bunch of Google, LG, AT$T apps and some others like weather, VuTalk, Google Play music, Email, Media and a few others.
Why are some of these running? Things like Redbox? AirDroid? Why two instances of Google Maps? LG Keyboard (it's not on screen, but its using 36MB), Same thing with "Media".
Also, whats the difference between processes and services? Some of the mentioned apps have 2 processes and 1 service, while others will have the numbers in the reverse order.
Would someone please explain what the differences are between all of these different task manager/app screens and their purpose. And whats the story with processes and services?
As far as yor ram goes in task manager its just a paused apps stored data. You can clear it but it doesnt really do you any good. The way android works is it pauses an app when you leave and info is stored in ram, if your phone runs low on ram it just starts taking from the longest paused app so you will not run out of ram and get choppy. So it isnt necessary to clear it. Your recents list is just that.
There is also a setting in task manager to auto clear ram regularly.

I went trough an odyssey since I bough my Archos G90 Turbo some years ago.
If you have this device you may be familiar with this: constant application freezes and crashes, big keyboard lag, system reboots, can not wake up from sleep, fast battery drain, and a large etcetera of nuisances that make you sad and willing to crush this piece of ****.
After trying almost all the firmwares on the forum thread dedicated to this device I have come to a solution and I wanted to left it here so maybe it helps someone.
The problem with this device is the lack of ram, 512mb is very little and system comes full of bloatware and a lot of applications leave daemons running even when they are not running.
I have installed the stock rooted version of firmware 4.0.7 as some pointed out that is the one that runs better on 512mb devices, and then I have installed root uninstaller and started to remove all apps and services that I don't need.
For instance I have uninstalled:
clock, contacts, contact storage, DRM protected content storage, exchange services, gallery, Gmail, Google+, Google contacts sync, Google play store, Google search, Google tts engine , media center, media storage, media scrapper, talk, talk back, voice search, Japanese keyboard.
There are some system applications that can be replaced for others that use less memory and don't leave daemons like:
play store -> aptoide
gallery -> quickpic (solves problem of being unable to enter deep sleep)
media player -> mx player
browser -> opera mini
Gmail app -> email app
I have also avoided synchronizing anything, or installing applications I use sporadically.
I'm using the tablet since a couple of weeks after doing this and it finally works fine.
I've posted something on android central forums, but I'm trying to figure out if I'm the only one having this issue. I recently bought a GN3, coming from a moto x (which I loved, just wanted bigger screen). I've disabled as many apps and samsung features as I can and got the phone setup as "stock" as I can get it. However, I'm seeing a HUGE amount of lag in the gallery app. I'm going to try to get another device to make a video, but it's REALLY bad. I have 2 photos on the device at the moment and it can take about 10 seconds to load one once it's tapped. Then zooming or trying to share the photo can take another 20 seconds. It's REALLY slow.
Also, it's curently using about 130mb of ram (using the built in samsung active apps) which is more than any other app currently running, but it's been as high as 500mb+ with the same 2 photos in my gallery. It almost seems like a bug / memory leak issue. I'm just wondering if I'm the ONLY one experiencing this or it's a global issue.
I've done all updates available so it's running 4.4.2 with the VOLTE update. I can't find any other posts specifically related to the gallery app.
Just thought I'd mention, I don't like the gallery app and have no need for it, except the samsung camera ONLY seems to work with that app, not google photos which is what I was using on my moto x.
Before anyone asks, I've tried pretty much everything you can think of related to clearing cache, data, rebooting, and I'm not syncing picasa web albums. I don't use facebook or any other services that would display through gallery.
Any thoughts?? This is a pretty annoying bug for an otherwise excellent phone.
***UPDATE 8-10-14***
This seems to be a bug with samsungs nearby services services and DLNA servers. I'm running Plex on my local network and every time I open gallery it looks like it's trying to contact / sync something with Plex. I'm not serving photo's so I'm not sure exactly what it's trying to do but it's quite annoying. It doesn't look like there's any fix on the phone itself unless you are rooted and you can disable the service. The only other option is turning off DLNA in plex or turning off UPNP on router. Just thought I'd share if anyone else was experiencing the same issue.
After the October update, my 5X now refreshes all apps all the time. The simplest experiment is have zero apps open, now I open a web browser (chrome, firefox, etc) and then switch to the home screen. Now when I switch back to web browser it reloads a web page. The same happens with all other apps (e.g. podcast player). I have eliminated all background apps. After rebooting the system reports 720-ish free MB of RAM. After I start a web browser, it reports 600-ish. So there is still plenty of memory, but the apps just can't stay in memory.
