I have 3 questions for the forum -
1) Why is it required to do a Hard-SPL and upgrade the Radio before upgrading to a Custom ROM?
2) I downloaded a Custom ROM and after unzipping I saw only 1 .nbh file. To update the ROM do I need to copy this file to the CustomRUU folder? There is already a nbh file present there - do I overwrite it?
3) If I am not happy with the Custom ROM - can I go back to the Original HTC ROM? I have it downloaded. Also - will the Radio be updated back to the Original ROM as well?
Any help is appreciated!!!

[*]HardSPL: This modified bootloader allows a much safer flashing process to take place since it reduces the chance of permenently bricking your device. It also removes the need to CID Unlock the device since it ALWAYS reports SuperCID when flashing. See the official thread for more info.

2) Yes. Or the other way around (copy the CustomRUU file to the ROM folder).
3) Yes and yes. Stock ROMs usually include Radio as well.
Good luck
Thanks for the response. I did go through that guide. I got the reason for the Hard-SPL - but why the radio? Why do we need to upgrade or change the radio?

I have been reading all the relevant threads, but its hard for me to make sense of it.
read read read! if you read, u even know how to root!
You need to be on 2.3.3, XWJVB. You need to be rooted and have deodexed XWJVB installed via ClockWorkMod (CWM) for TouchWiz 4 to work.
I'll write you a little guide:
1. Get XWJVB (2.3.3) from samfirmware.com. To register, click this link.
2. Get XWJVB from samfirmware.com. Click this link and find XWJVB in the relevant list (it's separated into continents, so look in the list for your relevant continent).
3. Download XWJVB and flash it via Odin. Since you say you've flashed via Odin before, I won't list it here. Besides, there are lots of 'HOW-TO: Flash via Odin' guides on XDA.
4. Follow this guide to root your phone (this is necessary for the next step). WARNING: YOU WILL VOID YOUR WARRANTY BY DOING THIS STEP. MAKE SURE YOU KNOW THE FULL IMPLICATIONS OF WHAT YOU ARE DOING BEFORE GOING AHEAD.
5. Reboot into CWM and wipe the data from your phone. Also wipe cache.
6. Staying in CWM, download and flash this ROM to your phone. (It's stock XWJVB, but deodexed and zipaligned). Note: before flashing, you will have to extract the zip file from the downloaded exe. To do this, simply press the exe and press extract on the window that appears. It will then extract the zip file, which you then flash to your phone. For more info about this stage, read this post.
7. Repeat step 4. Since this deodexed ROM is new and you wiped the stock ROM you downloaded from samfirmware.com, you need to root the deodexed ROM. Just repeat step 4 and everything will be fine
8. Last but not least, flash TouchWiz 4 to your phone. Download it here, and flash it via CWM. Once this is done, reboot your phone.
9. You should now be on TouchWiz 4. If you have problems with TouchWiz 4, refer to this thread.

Hi!
Is it possible to flash a original HTC ROM with the appropriate RADIO, without loosing the unlocked bootloader?
I want to have an original ROM to have a reference if my phone works properly.
Thanks,
newpipe
if you have the rom parts, you could flash them via fastboot- system, boot, and userdata. You can also flash recovery and radio if you want to go full stock except for the bootloader. You might have to pack the rom parts into the appropriate formats. Either ext3 images or images packed with ANDROID! magic.
There isn't much fastboot info since everyone seems to like the one-click methods or the methods that require minimal typing. You can look around the G1 forums for fastboot info and unpack a few images.
Just don't erase hboot and you'll be OK- and by OK, I mean that you'll be able to recovery from any semi-bricked, boot looping, non-functional state.

You're right. The first post in this thread looks promising.
Can we flash the ROM and RADIO linked without risk?
Edit: One more question: what does "Deodexed" mean? I saw the "Deodexed" ROM in the first post in the linked thread.
Light mod official firmware ICS for A101
Acer_AV041_A101_1.014.00_WW_GEN1-root.zip
It is flash through CWM or TWRP Recovery.
Changes:
Official bootloader removed
Updating to official recovery is disabled
Rooted - You must install Superuser. Do not renew busybox!
All the rest is left without changes.
thanks serves to A100?
Thank you for this. I am already rooted using your easy method, but I am sure this will be a lot of help to many others.

Thanks a lot for this, however, I'd rather try the actual leak file for now (not really bothered about my bootloader etc, which I unlocked but never got around to flashing a custom recovery).
I've found the original Russian forum, and the original leak file, but the instructions really aren't being translated very well by Google... There seem to be 4 update files in the archive, should they all be flashed, one after the other?
Path for the official A101 updating to ICS
Thanks to djinox of 4pda.ru. Original article is published on this site (russian).
Flashing through official recovery:
1. Download this archive. Unpack it. The archive contains 4 files numbered in the order of updating.
2. Rename update1.zip in update.zip and place it on the SD card. Flashing through official recovery.
3. To execute the 2nd point for update2.zip, update3.zip and update4.zip.
The firmware of ICS for A101 is received.
Thanks very much! And also thanks to djinox for the leak.
Wrong thread , sorry.
Can we please get something like this for the A100?
Hi I tried using the steps below to flash, no luck going to ICS.
Anything i might be doing wrong, i change each of the 4 files to update.zip and flashed it one by one, rebooting after each flash.

I had that initially. The actual ICS ROM is in update4.zip. You MUST do each one in turn. If you don't get the update, you did it wrong.
Thanks for the replies, I manage to get the update to ICS using CWM method, and almost bricking it, because I was on HC.
But all is good now. Thanks again
Any new ICS leaks
Hi, I am just curious if there will be any custom ICS roms for the A101 in the near future, or more leaks
Thank you

This build does not recognize headphones plugged in and still plays sound via speakers.
So, if you like using headphones with your A101, stay on HC.
Asking for ROM Bugs
Hi all,
Anyone can tell if there are any other bugs in this ROM beside earphone problem please? thx
I have problems with the phones USB port and I have to send it to warranty. I'd like to install a stock rom, but I can't use these RUU exe things I've been reading about here in the forums.
Is there a way to install a official rom just like custom roms are installed? Just flashing from a zip? I don't have any old nandroids remaining anymore :/
Thanks in advance!
You could flash a stock ROM, but your phone will still have an unlocked or modified bootloader, so the warranty people will know you messed with it. You need a RUU and/or AAHK to revert completely to stock.
I believe there are pd8img's out there that you can flash via bootloader just like you would flash a radio. It should revert you back to stock.

1. Just put the PD98IMG.zip in the SD card. Don't put it in some folder!
2. Hold VolDown and Power to boot into bootloader.
3. Wait a minute and the phone will ask you to flash this image.
4. Navigate to Yes with the volume buttons and press Power to select
5. The flash should begin and when it's done - you're done. You can now reboot!
*I'm not sure if this method will work for all modded HBOOTs but you can try.
This zip is for 3.12.405.1 WWE

Problem: We can download the firmware from Asus in the form of a zip file. We can use adb sideload <firmware>.zip to sideload the firmware.
Request: How can I flash that firmware using fastboot? It looks like I need to use a .img file. How do I convert that .zip file to a .img file?
Reason: I found a situation where using the sideload method didn't seem to work correctly. I ended up having to get a pre-rooted .img and flashed that, but I want a "virgin" img file. Thanks.
If you install zip from ASUS download site (not OTA!) then you will get virgin stock ROM after update.
This kind of update (around 1GB) erases system partition before install, so it doesn't matter how hard you've modified previous firmware. SU, Xposed, etc - everything will be automatically wiped before install.
The question is how do you convert .zip to .img?

tools to build img from zip (only full ROM, not OTA) published there: http://forum.xda-developers.com/zenfone2/orig-development/rom-pre-root-img-t3079590
But keep in mind, it's for advanced users. I would say, for developers.
Thanks. I asked that nice feller if he was able to do such a thing as I'm not a dev or even well-versed in Linux.
What firmware zip are you looking to flash?
flashing system.img was just temporary solution, as the only way to root or modify firmware before bootloader unlock.
With unlocked bootloader and custom recovery you can modify update.zip as much as you want and then install it.
Even if you don't want to unlock the bootloader, then you can use temporary custom recovery and install any modified zip.
So, in general you don't need to create system.img anymore. Just use zip to install whatever you want.

Hi,
can you make system.img, pre-rooted or not, like @shakalaca?
I tried but I haven't enough knowledge to do, though I tried to install a ghitub, etc, etc.
I would like to download the system.img fro last firmware, Z00A-WW.2.19.40.22.
Thanks
