[Q] How to install stock rom without a computer? - Desire HD Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I have problems with the phones USB port and I have to send it to warranty. I'd like to install a stock rom, but I can't use these RUU exe things I've been reading about here in the forums.
Is there a way to install a official rom just like custom roms are installed? Just flashing from a zip? I don't have any old nandroids remaining anymore :/
Thanks in advance!

You could flash a stock ROM, but your phone will still have an unlocked or modified bootloader, so the warranty people will know you messed with it. You need a RUU and/or AAHK to revert completely to stock.

I believe there are pd8img's out there that you can flash via bootloader just like you would flash a radio. It should revert you back to stock.

1. Just put the PD98IMG.zip in the SD card. Don't put it in some folder!
2. Hold VolDown and Power to boot into bootloader.
3. Wait a minute and the phone will ask you to flash this image.
4. Navigate to Yes with the volume buttons and press Power to select
5. The flash should begin and when it's done - you're done. You can now reboot!
*I'm not sure if this method will work for all modded HBOOTs but you can try.
This zip is for 3.12.405.1 WWE
Link to download the file: d-h.st/Ex2

How to get back to stock rom

Hi 2 all!
I just flashed my device with android 2.2
But how can I get back to stock rom (RUU_Bravo_HTC_Europe_1.15.405.3_Radio_32.30.00.28U_4.05.00.11_release_121865)?
The update program does not recognize my phone?
thanks
If you have flashed 2.2 then you have obviously rooted. It is just a matter of finding the rom you want. Put it on your SD card, and then use rom manager to flash it.
What exactly is not recognised?

...the htc rom update util does not recognice my handset...but I finally managed it. I had a backup and restored it with the rom manager.
How can I add the stock rom to the sd card. I looked at the files included in the stock rom (when it was extracted when entering setup) - do I need all files? Must I zip them??

Check the stickies. There's a thread full of stock ROMs (as .zips). Put it on your card, backup existing ROM, flash from zip (via ROM Manager or recovery).

I know this is for another thread but ROM manager is a tad temperamental on my phone. Won't let me install clockwork and Won't boot into recovery. All other tasks are greyed out. I do have ROOT and I am running a debranded ROM on an Orange phone.
Will take a look at the link above

PS: There is nothing wrong with 2.2, but I like 2.1 stock ;-)

How do I move back to stock? More related questions inside.

Hello Guys,
I am currently on Shpongle and want to move back to stock. Reason being frequent hanging and sluggishness. I have installed the swap performance updates and greenify, but still at times, the phone gets the better of my patience.
MY Questions:
1. How do I go back to stock? I dont think I have the stock nandroid backup. I have the Unlock_code.bin that was sent by HTC.
2. Is there a lightweight Sense ROM? I like the camera, and looks, but I dont like the friendfeed and stuff.
Thanks.

You can use myONEv RC9.5FX+ or Ignorance X for a lighter Sense ROM. You can remove the bloatware with titanium backup as well.

A few questions about it
Sorry for my mistake, please remove it
Hi people.
My device is curretly like this:
N9005
Knox 0x1
TWRP recovery
Stock Kernel
Stock ROM 4.4.2
I would like to return completly to stock. I know I won't be able to be Knox 0x0 again but I want the stock recovery, kernel and ROM.
My question is: can I simply restore the firmware in Kies to get back to stock (including the recovery)?
Stock Rom: http://www.idroidspace.com/primou-original-stock-rom-for-htc-one-v-android-4-0-3-ics/
Stock Kernel and Recovery: http://forum.xda-developers.com/attachment.php?attachmentid=1221449&d=1343236979
I can't tell you if this stock rom is the original one by htc or with some modifications, I only found it and there are much more ruu uploads out there.

Thanks for the links. I have a problem. I decided I want to go back to comfortable stock ROM. I used a custom ROM, on a rooted HTC One V (GSM - Primo U). I followed the intructions: First I installed stock kernel and stock recovery. After I relocked the bootloader. I downloaded the RUU file according to my region (there are 4 european RUU version???). I connected my phone to computer and run the downloaded setup and followed the steps. Only after I started the update process, the progress bar stopped moving (before entering bootloader - the HTC One V didn't reboot into bootloader) and I got an error (155) message. What may be the problem? I have tried the all RUU files according to my region.
Thanks in advance,
Tejcsi

First, install a custom recovery again. Then do a full wipe and install the rom you downloaded (PrimoU_Europe_2.22.401.1_Stock_Rooted_ODEX_FULL.zip or PrimoU_Europe_2.22.401.1_Stock_Rooted_ODEX_LITE.zip) with the custom recovery like you would install a custom rom. Then reboot to fastboot and flash boot.img (not boot-signed.img because this didn't work for me). Try to reboot and if everything works you may install recovery_signed.img, but this is only useful for ota updates, which obviously the hov doesn't get anymore.

Thanks. Yesterday I've installed the PrimoU_Europe_2.22.401.1_Stock_Rooted_ODEX_FULL.zip ROM, everything O.K., but there is no WIFI on my phone. So I decided to use the RUU. So I don't use boot_signed.img. Which boot.img can I use. Do you send me one?

yes, you need to find out your cid and main version using this command "fastboot getvar all", then you need to flash the stock recovery and stock odexed rom, relock bootloader and then you should be able to receive OTAs... look around for guides

Basically the phone will get update via OTA if it's on stock rom and stock recovery. Seem yours is not on stock rom.
My question is: how do you know there is an update when your phone is having trouble with "check for update" function?
Aldo, pls post the screenshot of "Software information" and Kernel information (click "More" inside Software information).

I asked just to make sure your phone is not on 4.2.2 and that you want ota 4.3 update.
Well, by the screenshot, you're on custom rom.
Now if you want stock 4.2.2 with sense 5 please do as follow:
1. Flash stock rom 4.2.2 (odexed) or nandroid
- Steps:
+ Identify your cid, and download stock rom or nandroid backup
+ Unlock bootloader (if locked)
+ Flash custom recovery (twrp, cwm..) and copy rom to phone memory (sd card)
+ Boot into recovery: Either flash stock rom or restore from nandroid backup file (remember to follow rom instruction carefully)
+ Reboot and there you go.
2. In case there is no 4.2.2 stock rom/nandroid but 4.1.1 only:
- Do same as above steps and your phone is now at stock rom 4.1.1
- Flash stock recovery (required)
- Reboot and check for OTA 4.2.2 update
- After OTA update, perform nandroid backup and save for future usage.
Report the result.
EDITTED:
Please make sure to backup your phone's data before proceeding as you might lost during rom flashing!

easyest way to update

Hi im not a total noob but I have never updated my phone as was looking for the simplest way to do so. I also have a few questions for when ive done so. Im currently on 4.4.2 rooted soff and have been advised to update so I can get a working kexec so I can install multirom properly.
will I need to reroot and unlock bootloader after?
Is there a risk of bricking.
thanks.

Sir if you were in rooted condition and gladly also in S-OFF, you're free to do anything , i mean rather than fallback to stock, just flash any custom rom you want but also flash it's correlated firmware.
Thank You

If I'm you, I rather update my device to 4.4.4 first as you're running the older firmware so all you can enjoy is simply CM based rom whereas the lastest GPE and sense based rom may not work properly since you're still using the older firmware.
Is it better for me to return to stock update everything and reroot rather than updateing Rom and firmware seperately

Easier way is to restore back to stock and do the OTA than root if need but I don't. I flash a custom recovery and make a nandroid backup and flashing straight! skipping root

The easiest way is to get s off, then go superCID
You download the firmware zip, rename it to 0P6BIMG.zip. Put that on your extCSD and boot into hboot.
That's it. Your phone does the rest.
You can read more about it here.

Do you have s-off?
Or the simplest and fool proof method. Grab your nandroid backup (found in general section) and restore the backup and flash your stock recovery. After which please do a factory reset and try to search for OTA. It'll appear

Or the simplest and fool proof method. Grab your nandroid backup (found in general section) and restore the backup and flash your stock recovery. After which please do a factory reset and try to search for OTA. It'll appear

Use a RUU will be easier for you. But beware, everything inside your device will be clean. So do backup your pictures and etc to your com before you use it.

Hi thanks for the reply my only worry with doing it this way is I have no idea what firmware to flash there are so many how do I know what is the right one. I may be being over cautious but I love my phone and don't want to mess it up.

I understand you not wanting to mess your phone. It is always best not to proceed if you are unsure.
I'm not sure what carrier you are on, but for the normal international model, you will want to download this firmware to use in the method I explained.
Some American carriers have different firmware, so if you on an American carrier, let me know which one and I will provide you with the proper download to update to 4.4.4
The best thing about this method over an RUU is that you won't lose any data.

Hi thanks for the help its appreciated. I have the UK and carrier is O2. Just so I'm clear after fw update all I need to do is update to a 4.4.4 rom? I do have HTC backup and a full tarp backup is that sufficient to restore my phone after thanks again.

Yep, that's right. The HTC backup I wouldn't worry about. They aren't as good as TWPR's. Flash the firmware from the link I provided, then install a 4.4.4 ROM.

Flash TWRP on RUU'ed Stock ROM without PC?

Hey,
Quick question, I'm away on holiday and had to use an RUU to reset my phone completely back to stock. I don't have my PC with me but was wondering if there might be any other way to get TRWP installed so I can get back to custom ROM's before the end of my trip?
Regards,
Ravi

I've described how to do this for CM-based ROMS with Samsung devices. Unfortunately, I know of no way to do this for the HTC 10. The issue is getting it rooted. My understanding is that the Sunshine app can root some 10s, but not all. You could try that. When you run the app it will do a series of tests on your device. If it cannot be rooted by the app it will give the message, "Root is required first." Otherwise, the app can root your device and proceed from there. Once rooted you could then use Flashify to install TWRP.

Thanks guys!!
I'm trying to figure out, if I want to flash just the recovery with the no wipe zip, can I delete all the other .img files within the zip or do I have to edit the Android-info.txt for the corresponding lines?
No issue in flashing the no wipe file as it is, just curious for future reference if I wanted to create easy 2PS6IMG.zip's in the future.
Sent from my HTC 10 using XDA Labs
I simply take the firmware.zip from OTA, delete all .img files, rename twrp.IMG to recovery.IMG and repack it to 2PS6IMG.zip
You don't need to change the android-info.txt as partitions without images won't get wiped, even if it says so.
You can flash Boot, Recovery and..... And.... Which was the third one? Without S-Off or signed firmware package.
