Um...You could use logmein to remote into your computer but then you're not really accessing network shares in the way that you initially described. When you use a remote tool like Logmein to transfer files you're using FTP or SFTP rather than just a network transfer from one device to the next.
What you initially described would be a Windows service that is not integrated into the WinMo OS's.

I have used a program on an HTC Universal a looooong time ago that allowed access to network shares. I have no idea where it came from or where to get it now, though...
It was a pretty simple interface. Maybe that was just the difference between WinMo 6 Pro and Standard?

If you have an OS running IIS you can use the directory access functionality. I have used Windows 2000 Server and my T-mobile Dash this way and it worked good. IIS is free on the Server versions of the OS and I believe it is available to install on XP and later desktop OS. If you like Linux you could use the free open source Apache Server too.

Free app to access PC
Check out Orb software. You have to leave your PC running and net connected, but if you have internet access on your Dash, you can access files on your PC through Orb's website.

The best way to remote desktop??

First off Hi all and Im no longer a XDA virgin, or I wont be in a few days anyway
I borrowed my mates old mobile phone that has mobile 2003 SE to see if I could control my desktop pc with it, thats running vista 64bit, so I can turn on my desktop pc, run winamp and play all my tunes from my bed. I must of tried 2 or 3 bits of software with no luck each time. then I noticed the "Terminal Services Client" that win mobile had. That sort of worked and I did remotly ran winamp, but it wouldnt play for some reason?? But the software kept hanging and crashing so I couldnt really do much anyway. Ive looked for another version of "Terminal Services Client" for windows mobile but theres none.
Tonight Ive just bought my first mobile/pocket pc "SPV M2000 / HTC Blueangel" for £60. Its been upgraded to windows mobile 6.1, so my question is will I have better luck with remote desktop on windows mobile 6.1 and does 6.1 has "Terminal Services Client"? If not what is the best software for remote desktop for win remote 6.1?
vncviewer
can't answer your question about 6.1, but a good simple solution might be the decent little vncviewer program for windows mobile on sourceforge. works good on my htc wizard 100 (a.k.a. cingular 8125) running winmo 5.0. I use UltraVNC server on the PC - good encryption and the works. not sure whether the remote assistance or terminal services is as secure.
For me tihs is the best:

there's two big different strings of remote desktop programs, one logs you in and you have your pc's desktop on your device's display and you have the full pc experience, but, it logs you off on your pc, like pc to pc remote connection. the other one is to control your pc and still have the pc running for itself, just as an external control or HID device.
if you want the first, the full experience, i would recommend wm6 rdp, just google it, it is freemail and works like a normal remote desktop, meaning you need to configure your router and your pc to do that. it's freeware by the way. in general i would not use iton a blueangel, because 240*320 is just too little to have an overview of the pc's desktop, which, in my case has a resolution of 1680*1050. i do use that program on my universal though, and it works just fine.
the other thing is to use the HID, the bestestest program for that is ppc tablet, unfortunately it is not free, but it's great, you stay logged on to your pc and can control winamp and any other program, use your touchscreen as a touchpad, like a notebook's mouse, you have a lot of possibilities. here are some links you might want to have a look at, too.

will add more, when i found them, but you can also search for remote desktop in the forum and you find a lot of results, that might help you get it to work.
EDIT: here is the link i was looking for:

this is the official great round-up of the best remote desktop programs out there, you can look up, what you need, what and if you are willing to pay for that and the functuionality it offers
Thanks guys.. I will have a play about when I get the phone hopefully tomorrow. Basically what I need the phone todo, is turn on my desktop from standby, run shortcuts I have in my start menu of my playlists, control winamp and put my desktop pc back onto standby. Then I dont have to get out of my pit at all,. What would be nice aswel, if the phone could remember my password so I dont have to log on to windows each time.
oooh, i just saw... "turn on my desktop from standby", that could become difficult, since neither the real remote desktop services, nor the addon services can run in standby and realize your approach of access, for example: some services like ppc tablet (which would be great for your winamp uses) need a server program running on your pc and a client software running on the ppc, but technically the server wouldn't run in standby, and as i mentioned before rdp services do neither, the pc needs to be turned on and connected to your network to be accessable. plus there is no such thing as "power on wlan", so that wouldn't work either. putting the computer into standby isn't that much of a problem, with ppc tablet you can simply navigate the mouse cursor to do so, in rdp services there is no direct function for standby, because in the version you get on your screen, the start menu's shut down,... commands are changed, but you can make a shortcut on the desktop to do so. i don't know about the command now, but google certainly will.
I did try the wakeup on lan, when I tried it with my mates phone, and it did wake me pc up but the "Terminal Services Client" on his phone kept crashing for some reason, and winamp loaded but couldnt get it to play for some reason.

Software IFILE to blackstone

Hi guy’s
I wondering if some one of you know about a program called "ifile" or something like that
I don’t need to say the name of the phone where roun this software but is not from Microsoft (clear enough right?)
So, I would like to know if there exists the same program for HTC HD or something like it.
I talking about a program that makes possible to transfer files from the pc to the Blackstone BY WLAN and so on so far.
I mean that you just need to write the IP address in your pc at the explorer and that’s it
Thank very much
every addon file explorer like total commander (free) and resco explorer (commercial) have builtin lan support
it works much like windows' "map network drive" function and is very good, i myself i use it alot
you can even use, instead of ip addresses, the network names of the computers or browse through the whole network.
i MIGHT be wrong but it seems to me that even the default winmo file explorer can do such thing provided you install file explorer extensions (search on this forum you will eventually find them out and read about those)
some ideas
Hi. There are some options i can think of from the top of my head.
1
share a folder on your pc, access it from your device with your favorite browser (Total Commander).
2
read in about getting activesync going over wlan
3
mail stuff to your self and check it on your other device
4
try to find a web or ftp server for ppc
5
there might be some remote control software (you know, to control your ppc from pc, or take screensnaps etc) that is able to transfer files. I know there is a lot of remote progs available.
6
There is software available to browse ms networks from ppc, maybe there is some that puts your pcc right in there.
I´ll add more if I think of any.
Use Google.

Touch Pro 2 WM 6.5 - Wierd Issue

Hi,
Just got the touch pro 2 and its awesome. I upgraded to WM 6.5, so I don't know if this post would be better in the Rom development folder, but here goes.
When I attempt to connect to my school wireless network it asks me to Download Cisco Clean Access Agent which is a utility that Windows Computers use to connect wirelessly. Previously with my HTC Trinity on the same Network w/ WM 6.5 and IE (not Opera) I was able to login using the web-login.
Basically Opera is saying the wrong thing and I obviously cannot run a Windows Login tool from WM6.5. Anyway work-around from the Opera stand point? Or should I use IE?
(BTW, I can't find IE on the phone anymore, maybe its not included...Does anyone have a CAB file for the New IE that normally is included w/ WM6.5?)

There should be a setting in the browser that allows the phone to be identified as either a mobile device or a PC. It's likely that the school network is seeing it as a computer and thus trying to install the software. Try changing the setting in the browser so that it is identified as a mobile device.
Thanks for info...any idea where that setting may be in Opera.. I checked the settings and Under Advanced I only found 3 checkboxes: 1 for Plug-ins, Cookies, and Javascript?
Under Display - there was a checkbox for Mobile View (which I tried, it only changed the way I saw the website, but it still asked me to Download the clean access program).
Report The Issue To Your School IT Staff
My university uses Clean Access, and there are ways it can be exempt certain IP-based devices. Smart phones, printers, scanners, etc. are all those kind of things.
Yes, you could tell Opera to mis-identify itself, but those of us who work in IT would rather do it properly and set rules to exempt devices. Yours will not be the first on your campus, so the sooner your IT department is able to get this issue on the radar screen, the better for all concerned. Help them help all students, not just solve your own issue.
Thanks, I'll go by and see what they do about it.

Can you remote access to your PC from a regular computer? (Outside home of course).
You will need Windows 7 Professional to do this.

FTP file transfer from computer to phone

Hello, I have S9+ but I think the S9 forum is more active (i think they should be merged) so I'm asking here. I need something that helps me transfer any file from my Mac to my phone, wirelessly, preferably over a communication protocol supported by Mac's native Finder. So I installed some FTP server app into my phone and press cmd+K on mac to connect to the phone, successful. But I can only READ files from phone to Mac, not the other way. I need it to work both ways. What do you use for this?
No idea if Mac supports it, but Total Commander uses SMB2 and can send/receive via Shared folders on PC at a good speed
Used to use FTP Server on Android and FileZilla Client on PC for FTP transfers too
have you tried this tool? allows you to send files via wifi, obviously, it's multiplatform
I use SSHDroid PRO
Not sure if mac can talk SFTP?

Thanks for the tip with Snapdrop. Looks good for occasional use (which is my case). I also found there are ftp plugins for total commander so I may try some time.
