Hi guy’s
I wondering if some one of you know about a program called "ifile" or something like that
I don’t need to say the name of the phone where roun this software but is not from Microsoft (clear enough right?)
So, I would like to know if there exists the same program for HTC HD or something like it.
I talking about a program that makes possible to transfer files from the pc to the Blackstone BY WLAN and so on so far.
I mean that you just need to write the IP address in your pc at the explorer and that’s it
Thank very much
every addon file explorer like total commander (free) and resco explorer (commercial) have builtin lan support
it works much like windows' "map network drive" function and is very good, i myself i use it alot
you can even use, instead of ip addresses, the network names of the computers or browse through the whole network.
i MIGHT be wrong but it seems to me that even the default winmo file explorer can do such thing provided you install file explorer extensions (search on this forum you will eventually find them out and read about those)
some ideas
Hi. There are some options i can think of from the top of my head.
1
share a folder on your pc, access it from your device with your favorite browser (Total Commander).
2
read in about getting activesync going over wlan
3
mail stuff to your self and check it on your other device
4
try to find a web or ftp server for ppc
5
there might be some remote control software (you know, to control your ppc from pc, or take screensnaps etc) that is able to transfer files. I know there is a lot of remote progs available.
6
There is software available to browse ms networks from ppc, maybe there is some that puts your pcc right in there.
I´ll add more if I think of any.
Use Google.

Anyone know (for sure) how to setup/connect 2 PPC together for file transfer using an ad-hoc connection?
The AIM is to copy/move files to my friends xda while sitting in the pub faster than IR or BlueTooth.
Wrong forum for this question, my friend
Use Bluetooth File Transfer or IR file transfer (Beam app). It's easy enough to do.
p.s. You can always do the 'sneakernet' thing and copy files to an SD card on one device and move it to the other WM device (if all you want to do is move files).
blinkers removed
Thank for advice, but not what im looking for. And sorry for the wrong placement, im a bit blinkerd and look in Univerasal most of the time.
Thanks all the same
You are very welcome, we try to help, even if we are snide about it some times.
Ahh, I see. You meant a WiFi connection in 'ad hoc' mode (vs. infrastructure mode) . You would have to set one of the XDAs in ad-hoc mode so it can act as an access-point. That can be done but I don't know if this will enable file-sharing. No such animal exists on any Windows Mobile devices (or at least I am not aware of any such software) and I don't know of any relevant shareware either so it can't be done this way.
Is there a reason you don't want to use the sneakernet approach? If you are only doing this occasionally it's just a minor pain in the rear-end.
Edit: Let me correct myself here and state that while you can actually use the WM5 devices in ad-hoc mode they cannot be used for transferring files, etc. You can use one of the devices as pass-thru just to, for example, browse the web. Although, I suppose that if you can run a FTP server on one of the devices (is there such a thing?) you can always use FTP to move files which would sort of negate the entire usability aspect of wireless.
For details on setting WM devices in ad-hoc mode read the very informative article here.
As in, like 'share' a folder somehow and just copy/paste directly onto it? I'm sure it must somehow be possible, like it is windows after all and with WiFi. or at least via FTP or something like that? like can do it on the ipod touch i have, so with a windows OS I would have thought it should be pretty easy?
Do a search on here for WIFI Remote Access. I am most certain it will serve your purpose.
Have anyone done this? I'm talking about making the phone into a Windows file system server so that you could browse it from your home computer using the \\ip\share -syntax in explorer over WiFi. Wouldn't that be cool? Can it be done?

No, that one uses a web interface. I'd like to browse the file system through explorer (not internet explorer)
MyMobiler has ftp capability, and can run over WiFi

Is there a specific reason to do this?

FTP is useful aswell but the scenario I was thinking of was this: You come to a friend and he has a computer hooked up to the stereo. You want him to listen to a new song you just downloaded to your Win phone. You can just give him the ip+share name and he can browse and play directly from your phone without installing any adittional software.
Actually for this scenario the first tool mentioned in this thread comes closer. But it lacks the possibility for drag-dropping. Say you want to drag 5 songs into a playlist in winamp or something...
I'm thinking simplicty for the user here, and offering something no other phone platform has yet.
So, you would like to find a way to make your phone into a Wireless NAS?
Yeah I guess you could call it that
I'm kind of surprised Resco Explorer 2010 doesn't provide support for this, the Palm OS version has supported SMB for quite a while:

Hi all,
I'll start with what I want to do. Basically I want to be able to access my files on my PC at home from anywhere where I have a network connection, either over 3G or Wifi.
I don't want something like dropbox where I have to sync all my documents/music/videos to dropbox online. That means I have copies on dropbox and on my PC. Plus I am restricted to the space dropbox provides (I think it is 2gb).
I have searched the internet and the market to try and find an app that will help with this but I can't find anything. I don't want to stream anything I simply want to be able to browse my files on my home PC and then copy anything I need from my PC, using my phone, to my phone.
I have heard of Orb but that sounds like it streams the data. Take this scenario... I am in the office and realise I need to show a client a video. I show it streamed from my PC. Someone else comes and wants to see the video but I'm in an area with no data signal, I can't stream! If I could have copied the file to my phone from my PC remotely the 1st time then I wouldn't have that problem.
I hope I've explained this enough. Thanks in advance for any answers, it is much appreciated.
Take a look at this : ES File Explorer
Also take a look at this, too : FileLinx 3G Print or Transfer

I use Windows Home Server to get this functionality. It also gives me automated backup and lots more such as music streaming.
1. set up a ssh/sftp server on your home PC
w w w.digitalmediaminute.com/article/1487/setting-up-a-sftp-server-on-windows
2. use ASTRO, ESfileexplorer, or CIFS manager to mount/access the share remotely. Start by setting up inside your LAN, and makesure it works. Then move to WAN (will probably need to make sure your ISP provides you with a static WAN, and port forward the port the server is using to be able to access it "out in the wild".)
3. access your files whenever you want (as long as PC is on, and server running, and connected to the net)
I have installed Teamviewer on PC and Android version on HTC Desire and Samsung Galaxy Tab, working great.
I have tried to use a bluetooth mouse on Desire during such remote connection, which was a bit funny.
I'm using cifs manager, works perfect for me!

The app ES File Explorer allows me to access my Laptop/Desktop PC files via wifi. All I had to do was run ES File Explorer, menu-show Tabs, select LAN, select New, scan, and pick my wifi PCs, which are already setup to share files. A quick entry of username and password, and I have full access to my PC files.
I have been wanting to do this for some time, and had searched for adhoc, wifi, wifi direct, etc. But hadn't found the solution. So this post is to aid those like me who want to access their PC files but weren't aware that it was possible.
Personally, I think the OS should be providing this functionality. To be honest, it's hardly new technology to connect wifi to wifi (adhoc has been around for about a decade).
The ES File Explorer solution is sufficient, but it works by downloading the entire file, rather than permitting streaming. I would rather have a streaming-capable solution, so that I can watch films that are on my PC hard drive.
So my final part of this thread is a question. Has anyone found anything superior to ES File Explorer for accessing PC files over wifi?
This feature has been available for a long time. There are other file managers that allow this as well.

File Expert has built in Windows/Samba sharing as well as allowing you to access your phone via FTP. Pretty handy app.
You can access Dropbox and Sugarsync as well, just swipe left or right to change the different connections and copy files easily from one to another. Beats the default Dropbox app hands down IMHO.
Thanks, I have downloaded file expert as well, and will consider using es file manager to manage dropbox. This is my first Android phone so for me all features are new.

For those with unlimited data, i use TONIDO
which is AWESOME.
It uses wifi OR data. I can access ALL and I mean ALL files on my computer including windows folder etc....
Free app by the way, just need to download tonido app for computer , i set it up months ago, but it was super easy, and doesnt require to ever login again unless you decide to protect it.

You're confusing technologies. This isn't ad-hoc networking, it's just using a file browser that can read samba shares. I use ES in conjunction with MX Video Player and Dice Player for what you want to do. MX seems to stream best if you select software decoding.
Check out splash top for streaming

Thank you for this awesome tip of using ES with MX to stream video.
Ill check out that last recommendation another time, as I now happily accessing my PC files.
Makes me wonder why people still use the USB cable aside from charging...

Not sure if this is what you guys want, but there are several apps for streaming stuff on your phone (from a PC or Mac). Just go on the market and search for "DLNA" or "UPNP".
Check Tonido (https://market.android.com/details?id=com.tonido.android&hl=en). You can access the data using Wi-Fi as well 3G.
