Ok, so I know the obvious differences in that the O2 & T-mobile require you to sign up to contract and dump a load of their own branded software on the phone, but is that all there is when it comes down to it?
I used the Vario 2 for ages but jacked it in a few months back because I got fed up with it's clunkiness. Only now I need something to take it's place. Obviously I'm posting here so I'm looking at the HTC P3300 (or a contract one). Problem is I've still got 4-months left on my curent contract so I have to buy off-contract so to speak.
So back to the original question, given the HTC P3300 is roughly £100 more to buy compared to T-mobile / O2 realeases (roughly £200 on Eay) which is the better option? Frankly, I'm tempted to stump up the extra because I thought the Vario 2 I had previously was pretty dam slow with all the T-mobile stuff on it but then I'm as well versed in the ins and outs as some of you guys are so what do ya think?
T-Mobile has no WLAN.
And at least for HTC there are two packages, one with TomTom + Maps for Western Europe, car holder & charger and one without.
I believe O2 Germany had the big package, but I'm not sure.

No wifi? I hadn't realised that! Seems a bit like a no brainer then
Actually, come to think of it, I am correct in my understanding that I can just plug my T-Mobile sim into this and as long as I configure appropiately I should be able to get it to work?
if you use a non-simlocked device this is correct.
There is the question of styling, which is of course personal. However, I think the Orbit is much prettier which is why I got one. Everyone to their own, tho'

Yes, this is true and I agree but then I think I'd feel a bit of a twit using the O2 model on a T-mobile contract
O2UK ones are unlocked.
You could buy it from eBay or get it on contract from O2, CID unlock it (http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=308242) and then flash any ROM you wanted from the collection on this site or elsewhere.
Several readers are wondering when the new HTC Touch Pro 2 will be released by carriers, and which carriers will offer it.
HTC is currently planning to ship the HTC Touch Pro 2 to European customers in late May or early June, featuring Windows Mobile 6.1 Professional and the latest version of TouchFLO 3D. FCC recently revealed that HTC is also planning to offer an unlocked version of the HTC Touch Pro 2 supporting AT&T's 3G network this summer.
I have also included the link. http://www.infosyncworld.com/news/n/10233.html
that's great news!!! I'm really thinking of buying an unlocked one, but only as long as it supports AT&T's 3G network. the only thing holding me back is that if I do buy an unlocked one I won't have any insurance or warranty on it. wait, does anyone know if any form of insurance or warranty is offered if you buy an unlocked version of a phone?? (sorry I've never bought an unlocked phone before) cos it's getting pretty hard to wait for fall to come so I can buy the subsidized TP2. and plus, by then AT&T will most likely have messed around with the hardware and appearance of the phone.

Im in the same boat. I prefer an unlocked (untampered with) phone, but worried about the lack of Warranty
I have bought a Tytn, Tytn II and a Touch Pro direct from HTC, certainly in the UK their warranty is good, its longer than a year certainly (I think 2 but dont quote me). I will be getting the Touch Pro II direct from HTC again, Im bored of being held to ransom by the operators.
i know that if we buy an unbranded TP2, it will more than likely come with a 1 year manufacturers warranty. that sets me at some sense of ease. but does anyone know if an unlocked TP2 will support U.S. AT&T's 3G bands? i've been hearing 2 different answers: some say it will some say it wont. can anyone supply some evidence? i'm trying to compile all the evidence and reasoning i can so i can make my final decision as to buying it unbranded or just waiting for a subsidized version that i know will work with AT&T's 3G bands here in the U.S.
also, does anyone know if HTC will sell it for less or more than those sites like expansys and such?
If they release an unlocked one directly to the US, I am sure it will support either both AT&T and T-Mobile, or they will have 2 separate ones that support either.
I am looking to get a sim free vodafone touch pro 2 off ebay. I already have an o2 sim.
Are they easy to unlock? I have read something about qmat and goldcards?!?
If I just took it to a vodafone store would they unlock it and for how much?
On my nicked xperia (hence the sim) I used hard spl (it didn't need unlocking tho I just wanted the newer firmware).
Vodafone TP2 is already unlocked....you can stick any chip in there
I have Tmobile and Orange and they work fine
Thanks. Looks like it may be a buy then.
Hi,
I'm from Germany and want to buy the Sprint HTC TP2.
Now I found some pages that say i cannot use the phone here.
Because it has quadband i think i can use gsm here, but i don't know wether umts in Germany is fully supported.
Sprint homepage says it's an international phone, but i don't know much about the frequencies of umts and else.
Why I didn't buy the phone in Germany?
Here it costs $700, the Sprint version has a audio output (3.5mm), so i donÄt need any adaptor, and i like the full black hardware keyboard more than the silver german one.
So, what's about the umts and gsm frequency in Germany and would be there any problems?
Thanx,
CrossFire
Forget it mate. Sprint is a CDMA network. It won't get any signal at all in Germany since Europe ONLY uses GSM.
By the way, I bought my phone for 519 Euros in Germany. And unlike the US variety, it comes with warranty that's actually good in Germany and I have my two years of Gewährleistung that you don't get when you buy it abroad. Considering how expensive the phone would be to replace or fix when it breaks, you might want to make sure you can actually make use of the warranty coverage.
Alternatively, buy it from China. It's about 380 Euros there, but at least it's GSM. Mind you that shipping costs and particularly import taxes and duties make the price difference between a domestic and an imported device rather small. I don't think it's worth losing the warranty

Actually, the CDMA touch pro 2s are all world phones capable of quadband GSM/EDGE in addition to Euro 3G (2100mhz). The Sprint branded phones are sim-unlocked, but they just can't use US carriers like T-Mobile USA or AT&T.
I'm not guaranteeing that it'll work, but it should in Germany.

You have no idea what you are talking about.
afaik, the sprint version should work just fine in Germany. It does have 3G GSM, and as long as you don't try it in the US you will be fine.

My mistake. I have to say that there is no clear indication on either Sprint.com, HTC.com or Microsoft.com that says that GSM features the phone has. However, I checked the Sprint manual for the phone and it turns out it does support GSM.
Am I right in saying that GSM/GPRS/EDGE/UMTS will work, but HSDPA/HSUPA won't?
xanthene: Just for future reference, if you are in need of a full detailed spec list, you can always visit www.pdadb.net. They always have a very comprehensive list with details on the phones that will be and have already been released.
Hi there, I have had my touch pro 2 for around 2 years now and have always loved the phone and bought it on contract from vodafone in the UK and live in England - Leeds and was just wondering if I could unlock this phone either for free or by paying? I dont mind paying if thats what I need to do but free would be nice also.
If I can do it for free can you possibly tell me how?
And if not, then can you give me a legitimate website where I can purchase an unlock code from for a cheap price?
Thanks in advance.
you can just search this site for " hard-spl" for RHODIUM or TOUCH PRO 2..
Also do a search for "task 29"
are you talking about sim unlocking and witch version phone do you have
You should also check Oli's thread you may be able to find what u need there
i also have a vodafone uk tp2 and to my pleasant surprise found it to be already unlocked when i tried an o2 sim.have you tried another sim card.
