Greetings all!
This is the weirdest problem ever. When I purchased my X1i, I purchased iGo8 along with the map of Egypt. I set it up, then moved the files installed to my phone memory to the memory card; i.e. all related files were stored at “Storage Card/iGo8”. It worked like a charm! I flashed my phone several times afterwards for all different reasons and every time I would just run iGo8 from the memory card without having to re-install it. Simply I would copy the “iGo8.exe” file and paste a shortcut to it in the “/Windows/Start Menu/Programs” folder.
A few weeks ago, I decided to build everything from scratch again since I was going through a complete data migration on my home network. I backed up everything, formatted the memory card and flashed the phone. I installed everything from scratch including iGo8. Now I have files on the phone memory, which I didn’t move this time, and others on the memory card including the map, the 3D buildings file, and other resources such as help, voice, etc…
For the sake of safe driving, I enabled the “iGo8 Today Plug-in” on the “Microsoft Today” Panel so that I can start the program without having to touch the screen or take out my stylus; just scroll down and click to load. Afterwards, I noticed this weird behavior: after a few times of switching panels, or either after approximately an hour or so, if I clicked on the X Panel button, it would wait for 3 seconds before illuminating the LED (usually it illuminates the LED almost instantaneously) and then nothing happens! The panel I am on would freeze and if I waited for 5 seconds or so it would resume normal operation. If I got a little pushy and pressed the X Panel button again or tried clicking on the d-pad in any direction then clicking on the centre button (thinking I might be able to blindly choose another panel) I would get the message "We’re sorry! PanelManager.exe crashed/send error report".
I unchecked the "Today Timeout" option but the problem persisted. Next I unchecked the iGo8 Today plug-in and ever since PanelManager.exe has never crashed, not even once! The phone has been running for two weeks straight now without turning it off or soft-resetting it, with me switching panels all the time! I just don't understand why anything like that would happen! I can’t find any logical reason for it! Do I need an edit to the “sys” file?! That glitch and the fact that iGo8 doesn't display properly in landscape mode are really pissing me off! Now, every time I want to start iGo8 for car navigation I either have to pull over or fiddle with my phone while driving, which I really don't like.
Any one encountered the same problem? Should I try to add a plug-in key to the registry and have it point to a certain iGo8 DLL file instead of using the available “Today” plug-in option? I found this registry edit where you can add a Wireless Manager and I fell in love with it ever since. Any feedback would be seriously appreciated! If you ever come to Egypt I will take you to the Giza Pyramids free of charge!
Some useful data:

217 views and not a single reply? Is it a stupid question? No one has ever encountered that problem?!
I found a fix!
Navigate to the following reg key:
[HKLM]\Software\Microsoft\Today\Items\iGO8
Delete the value:
Enabled_save [DWord] =1
Now you can have an iGo8 Today plugin (the one automatically created during the installation or a manually-added-to-the-registry one) without impacting Panel Manager in any way. I tried enabling all of plugins (Windows Live, Live Search, Skyfire, Skype, etc...) and the phone has been working well for 6 days now. Cheers!
Problem prevails!
The problem still exists! Deleting a registry entry at:
HKLM\Software\Microsoft\Today\Items\iGO8
Flags[DWORD]=1
Solves the problem for a while. However, the entry is recreated and the flag is set to 0. After a while it is set to 1 and Panel Manager crashes! This is seriously driving me crazy!
not similar to yours but i also have the same problem my panels are just not coming into play when i press the panel button on my x1i the screen goes blank for a while then the previous screen appears the panel manager doesn't even shows up...help me out....
Problem disappeared!
Months later, I flashed the phone, reinstalled everything! Panel Manager is yet to fail!

i am new to pda's so take care with me, i am a real novice!!
any way it keeps frezzing up,
i have tomtom 3 blutooth sat nav, loaded on, which a college has given me!! it works fine but every time i touch the pda it frezzes (plus i dont need to touch it it just does it on its own accord,)
it isnt just when the tomtom is on,
it does it what ever i am doing!!
if you can help, please do!! but remember i may need well detailed info on what to do to rectifi the problem,
thanks bill
Bill, I had a similar problem with my wifes XDA II when I loaded Tomtom software onto it. I did the following and it resolved the problem for me, so you may want to give it a try (assuming you still have the problem).
Tap on Start (on the desktop screen)
Select Settings
Select the system tab at the bottom of the screen
Tap on the memory icon
Select the Running Programs tab
This opens up a window which shows you all the programs which are currently running on your PPC
Select STOP ALL from the options available
This will close all programs running on the system and free up your memory resource, so now go back to the desk top view.
Then start your Tomtom program up again as you would do normally and see if it freezes on you this time.
IMPORTANT ADVISE - You must close Tomtom down from the options within the program which, on my system is a large red EXIT APPLICATION icon found in the Navigator Menu.
Hope this works for you as well as it did for me.
Good luck

8) Go to the windows startup folder and delete connections.exe.
That will free up a lot of resources

whats this do
connections.exe.
Other than connections.exe..
Hey everyone,
I just received my XDA IIs from Hong Kong 3 days ago. Since then, the PDA portion is working great. But the phone keeps locking up. I cannot hear caller and they cannot hear me. I have been soft resetting at least 2 x a day...and missing calls..
is there anything else that we should delete?
Thanks!

There is an inherent problem with the audio on this particular model (Blue Angel)
The problem seems to escalate if you use the Bluetooth Audio.
I experience the problem 2-3 times a week, even with the connections.exe removed from the Windows/Startup Folder.
Hopefully a new release of the Radio/Firmware will cure the problem.

I have another observation:
If I soft reset and then cick the Start button it takes by aprox 13-14 seconds till the menu opens up. I can not remember how it was when I was with the original t-mobile ROM. since I can not rmember I deduct that it probably was not an issue. once I open it once it works fine...
is that expected operation? has anyone else have similar experiene?
I am not running the antivirus. It was installed with the extended rom, I have never ran the shortcut in the programs to setit up, and I have removed it with add remove programs. so you could say it was never active.
If you are using spb pocket plus or any similar software, just remove the SD card indicator and the battery meter from the screen.
Also you should disable the error reporting.
I think this will improve the speed of your device in general and will not experience the same problem agian.
Regards,
do not have any indicators and the error reporting is off
It may be something related to any of the sofwares installed on your device.
If I'm in your place I would hard reset, and install the softwares one by one and check it's effection on the device.
It may be also something related to the extended rom as I think it verries according to the supplyer.
To know if it is related to the extended rom or not you have to hard reset and then softreset before the extended rom is installed.
Then you have to install the extended rom item by item according to your needs and don't install the items which you don't need, but you better install them on the storage card instead of the main memory as this will save good amount of space in your device.
Regards,
I think I got it now.
Well if I chnage the shortcuts on my start menue to the stuff I mostly use e.g. Resco File explorer, TOMTOM, etc, those programs are installed on the SD CArd, so it takes time to read that info. Now I haven't change the shortcuts in the start menue this time and all is fine no delays...
Could it be true ?? I thought the .lnk files are on the device in the Windows\start menu ?? am I missing something ?? though, well the icons the .lnk is getting are coming from the executables and those are on the SD Cards, so mayhbe it does make sence at the end....
Well if someone has a better explanation please do not be shy
I found a culprit at least by me (see my signature for the configuration)
It is Skype...
When installed after a soft reset It takes 12-13 seconds to open the start menu. But if you haven't run tskype yet then it takes about 5-6 seconds. Completely unacceptable. I would think it has to do with the shortcut of the skype which is being placed in the recently ran programs after you run it.
Anyhow so I guess this is solved...
I don't have a clue, but when I boot my PC, starting the first programs is also a bit slower than some seconds later, I would say thats a normal thing, cuz PPC's get PC's more and more...
greetz Nemesis
On the I-mate ROM some of the "Today Screen" skins are very large files and cause this phenomenon which Churchill has described here i.e. slow response to the Start button immediately after a soft reset. The more notorious skins are i-mate grass and i-mate swoosh and some others. Avoid using them and prefer using simpler ones. Try them yourself one by one and you will see wonders.
Hope this helps.
Kind Regards
The battery icon is next. But the key here is the thing didn't blow up when I tried this.
I searched and searched for this everywhere (within reason. 90 pages of the XDA forum wasn't worth this. It's easier and faster to re-flash my ROM). I wanted to do this because I have a button for the comm mgr and a today plugin for power management. I'd like my tray for other things, like reducing the size of my SPB Plus tabs.
Registry edit (for real newbies HKLM means HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE):
HKLM\SOFTWARE\HTC\InitialTray\0
I deleted the ClassName Entry altogether. I changed the AppName (from WiFiTray.exe) to:
calc.exe
To give it something to chew on to avoid hanging if I could.
Granted, it takes a few more seconds to boot, and I have to close the calculator when I soft-reset, but I don't mind, yet, and hopefully someone can use this to make more fun, or at least better use of screen real estate, like accompanied by traylnch.exe, (I got from Faria's 3.3.0.0 ROM for Wizard) or another tray launcher:
http://www.freewareppc.com/utilities/phmpocketpcpowertoys.shtml
http://www.vijay555.com/?Releases:VJTrayLaunch
So in order for *this* registry entry to put an icon in the tray, the app reference needs to be to a Tray app (WiFiTray.exe, PowerTray.exe, ScreenRotateTray.exe) plus the ClassName to say what to bring up when it's tapped, otherwise it justs starts whatever app is referenced. (I suspect it does this after the Startup folder runs, but I don't have a way to watch the boot process.)
Has anyone seen this or heard of better ways to deal with this inept and useless MS attempt at spoon feeding the user?
I am no sure about AKU 3.3, but generally you can get rid of everything in the tray without opening calculator or delaying boot simply by deleting two shortcuts from windows\startup
Namely power_tray.lnk and init_tray.lnk
And absolutely no reason for device to explode.
in my asus p525 running on wm5... i've tried to clear the today screen system tray icons like the asusstatus and bttrayce by removing both of them from the windows/startup folder... but the problem is after a softreset, the bt program is no longer running and i cannot activate the bt function unless i go to windows folder and re activate the bttrayce program... once i re activate the bttrayce program, the icon appears again in the today screen system tray...
any idea how to remove the bttrayce program from the windows/startup without disabling the bt function???
Hi all,
First I have to say that I'm over the moon with my new TP2!!
I absolutely love it
Today I started customizing it, and I've got one problem.
No matter what task bar I'm installing, after soft reset TF3D won't start.
It just shows HTC, and nothing happens.
At this moment I have the stock Dutch rom that ships with the TP2.
I installed sdkcerts.
Anyone experiencing the same thing??
H.
sorry wrong thread
TF3D
Hi there,
I've had the same issue with my UK spec, a reboot often cures it but it is a bit lame when the software wont even start up.
So far this has only happened to me about 3 times but I have been playing with it immensly and have rebooted it about 20 times already whilst cocking up some Shat Nav software.
Still loving it in general though ;-)
I'm having the same problem, rebooting doesn't solve anything.
A hard reset does, but than I have to reinstall everyting.
Manually starting manila.exe is an option, unfortunately than the time isn't updated.
Anybody has a sollution for this?
My solution was:
1. Go to: Start > Settings > first tab and click on Today > Go to Items Tab.
2. Uncheck TouchFLO 3d and click OK.
3. Do step 1 and 2 agian but then Check TouchFLO 3D.
4. Soft reset.
Done
tried that but it didn't work for me.
Just removed TomTom 7 & SPB Backup and now it seems to start up fine....
That's a bit of a shame, because TomTom and backup are very helpfull apps...
ive had similar issues but only when trying to customise manila theme. kept saying launching touchflo but nothing happens and then reverts to saying tap here to launch manila. if any of the programs you are adding or any of the customisations you are making involve messing with manila then you will have issues! once hard spl is out then all these things wont be an issue any more.
same problem here, don't try to change startmenu things (standaard startmenu/small startmenu, extra rows etc).
If I enable the extra program tab the buttons won't work most of the time.
The stability of the TP2 is not so good yet, hope that there will be a fix or update for it or a very good custom rom from a good chef.
me 2
I have experienced it twice. I got TF running again by unchecking TF3d in the items screen of the today settings, shutting the TP2 down by pressing the on/of switch some seconds, then restarting ,rechecking TF3D and shutting down once more. This has the same effect as a soft reset, only the system is disconnected longer. So perhaps taking the battery out works as well.
I think this problem is there because TF3D is so much integrated in WM 6.1. So the chance of apps interfering with it is pretty big. I hope with WM 6.5, they remove the big menus's (since they are there already in WM 6.5) and other stuff. Just to get more memmory back, and to make TF3D more compatible with other apps. (still waiting for my TP2)
Error no longer happens
Hi Guys,
I found out that mine was being affected by an old copy of IGO 8 that I was trying to install, since I've upgraded to the new version the TF3D issue has completely vanished.
I noticed that when the TF3D failed it was after a period of low memory or high CPU useage, perhaps using some software that isnt compatible with the TP2 is causing TF3D to screw up.
it's just a theory at the mo... can anyone else share their experiences?
Guys,
this is the third thread about this subject. I have the same problem. HTC is not aware about this problem and encourages those who HAVE these issues to call them. Calling is free...
please do so in order to get rid if this massive bug!
I have been doing some investigation of my own on this one.
I have SPB Backup installed which reboots my phone every night and found that TF3D would not start. Even after a few reboots it would not start. Removed it tried again still an issue.
Hard reset and still was getting some issues.
After alot of rebooting etc I found that if you have a pin enabled on your SIM card TF3D has issues on startup.
No PIN and all is fine.
With that in mind I have just left the phone lock on for now until a fix is found for the bug by HTC
hi, please contact HTC with your findings. if they dont know, they cant fix. calling is free.
thought i disabled my PIN and the problem still persists. although i had a "loading..." once. but it didnt load...
I have contacted HTC about this. I am awaiting a reply from them about the issue.
I had the same problem when installing the .cab to remove the bottom curtain. Soft resets, unchecking and checking TouchFlo3D didn't work. I then reinstalled the .cab and the TouchFlo3D also came back.
Perhaps that will work for you too? Try reinstalling the last program after the problems has occured?
I have the same problem, and i did notice that after uninstalling an application it usually works again. The strange this is that it looks like it is not a specific application that I need to uninstall. It could be a cab for a different clock or tab icons or an g-sensor app, or probably any other app.
Strange .....
Hmz, I soft resetted my TP2 and found out that the TF3D again didn't start. Had to re-install the "Bottom Curtain Remover.cab", soft reset and then it started again.
Looks like ahlung has a point in saying that it doesn't look like it's a specific application that needs to be uninstalled / reinstalled.
It can also be affected by file read errors, including files on the SD Card, if you have corrupt files on the SD Card, this can cause TF to not launch and even lock the device.
Cheers,
Beasty
Same problem here!
I also contacted HTC and told them the issue. They suggested me to do a hard reset! If I couldn't think to do it by myself!
EDIT:
Having trouble keeping the program focusing, so does not work yet.
It's a basic program which makes sure the display doesn't timeout while TomTom is running. Devices such as the HTC Maple and the HTC Excalibur doesn't support this function natively.
I have only tested it on my HTC Maple and it works fine. The default path to TomTom is \Storage Card\Program Files\Navigator\TomTom Navigator.exe
It comes with two programs, one is for launching TomTom and the other one is to change the default path. I suggest copying the files into your TomTom folder, but it doesn't matter. Remember to create a shortcut to the launcher and add it to your startmenu for easy access.
It could work on the HTC Excalibur but I haven't tested yet, so If someone could test and reply to this thread, that would be great.
Hmm?!? I've been using WinMo for quite some years, since Qtek S200 and also serveral different versions of TomTom, 5 6 and 7, and I never, but never saw my pda going timeout due to TomTom...
The same I cannot say of iGo8...

I think the timeout being referred to is when you have a PIN setup? I am going to download and try on Diamond - will post result.
Can it be used for Garmin as well?
I don't know about Tom Tom but I have the same issue with Garmin - could you modify this app so that it will so the same for Garmin? WOuld be greatly appreciated

Your right, I've used the HTC Universal and that work fine for TomTom. But with phones such as the HTC Excalibur and now my phone the HTC Maple, the TomTom times out. So the problem probably vary with different phones and maybe even different TomTom version.

Have you tried using this program with Garmin as well? Even though it says its for tomtom it could be used for other programs.
If it doesn't work its probably because your device has a different pvDevice name than my HTC Maple. The pvDevice name is needed to access the power functions on the phone (Mine is BKL1: ). What is your device name? I could check the pvDevice name and update the program to work with your phone and my phone

Thanks for the prompt reply. I am currently using my old iMate JasJam (runs wm6.1) as the GPS chip on my HD2 died. It is - hopefully - being repaired as we speak. However, as I am off to the Czech Republic in a week for a holiday I may have to use it instead. Nothing worse than having to restart the phone every 5 min as you are walking around trying to see the sights.
Don't know what "pvDevice name" is or where to find it. Under Device settings in wm6.1 it says my model no is Herm100 and Platform is PocketPC using CRCs rom version r13.5 but I'm guessing that's not what you are referring to.
I will try just installing it and see what happens. Any further help would be greatly appreciated as this app would be brilliant.
Edit: 1: Just edited the "Save TomTom.exe path" file to point the Tom Tom Navigator launcher to Garmin instead. This has worked to launch Garmin instead of Tom Tom but it still cuts out after a few minutes. I also have S2U2 running so I will add Garmin to the Exceptional Exe list on that and see if that helps.
Edit: 2: Still turned itself even after adding to S2U2 Exceptional Exe's!

Im really sorry. I just did a full test today and It seems even I can't get it working . The screen stays on but it loses focus after a while. I'll start working on it now!
When you say "cuts out after a few minutes" is that the display turning off? Or just Garmin losing focus?
Nothing to apologise for - just to have someone develop such an app and make it available for free is a privilege - wish I had the knowledge and skills to do it.
To answer your question, the screen turns off - I have to press the screen-on button at the side of the jasjam, then navigate to the Garmin program launch icon and press it. The program comes back up to where it left off so I guess it must still be running in the background. Of course, when I am on external power this is not a problem - it keeps running. OK in the car but not much good when walking around.
I have noticed that in System/Backlight settings the screen is set to turn off after 5min when on Battery Power so I have unchecked this option, ie screen shouldn't ever turn off. This seems to be working; however, when Garmin is turned off I then have to remember to reset the backlight-off timeout otherwise I'll quickly have a flat battery.
Nowhere near as elegant as your app promises to be.
Have had Garmin running for past 10 min while I have been typing/composing this reply and it hasn't dropped out ..... yet.
What do you mean by "losing focus"
Further to above, I have had Garmin running non-stop since the above post - 30 min - so unchecking the "turn off screen backlight" seems to have done the trick. Now I just have to go through the nausea of manually checking it again in he system properties.
Thanks for your assistance.

Its just like your desktop, when you are doing something in a window, be it typing, mouse clicking etc, you are focused to that window. But as soon as you click another window your focus changes to that window. So whats happening with this program is its focused on TomTom for around 30s but then it is losing focus to something in the background. Nothing visually happens on the screen, but as soon as I press a key it switches to the background.
It sounds like even the backlight doesn't stay on for you...
Hopefully I can figure this problem out by soon, when I do, ill post
For your info, I have two settings that seem to be relevant both related to Battery Power:
1. Settings>System>backlight>battery power> uncheck "turnoff backlight if device not used for ..."
2. Settings>System>power>advanced> on battery power> uncheck "turnoff device if device not used for ..."
When the Garmin first turned itself off I noted that "1" was checked and set to 5 minutes and "2" was checked and set to 2 minutes. 2 minutes seemed to be the time it took before the phone/screen turned itself off. Once I unchecked "1" the setting @ "2" was irrelevant.
Re loss of focus - no, the screen went blank. When I pressed the power on button for the screen the "today" screen came back up. I then pressed the program launcher>Garmin and Garmin resumed where it had left off.
Hope this helps. Regards Ross
Just a heads up.
You can just download a LightJacker from this address:
http://w1.ozone.mine.nu/default.asp?c=index_lj Looks like it does what people want and is easy to use.
