Hello guys from long time i search some cool compass aplication that will be very usefull for all of use.
I found that the new Touch HD 2 have Digital Compass who work Under WM 6.5 and use the GPS.
The question is.. We have WM 6.5 for our Blackstones and We have GPS too
Can someone port this Beautyfull Digital Compass we to can use in Blackstone
Here is the Image:
Im pretty sure that this requires extra hardware that the HD does not have.
I dont mean exactly the same but someone can make some similar compass for our Blackstones for example can se the graphic from the original one just to get the idea.
We have G sensor and GPS so its posible to be made some kind of compass.
There have been a few roms that have tried it, but it did not work and caused the HD to crash when trying to exit the app.
This is not possible: The Touch HD does not have a compass, the HD 2 does!
Just using GPS there is no way for the device to know which way is north! It can only figure out the direction when it's moving, not when it's stationary!
There have been numerous threads on this subject!

Correct, our HD's will never have this capability due to not having the hardware needed. One more reason to purchase the Leo
theres plenty of compass apps out there allready that use the GPS eg....Beeline, Efficasoft, there's heaps more though off the top of me head, there the ones I use. Otherwise your gonna have to buy a phone that has the specific bit of hardware in it, that can give you a stationary reading, as the GPS ones calculate this via your movement.
try install latest rom Lost In Asia there is implemented that compas and copilot live 8 trial too

Now this is a new issue...Once started, on portrait mode, the slingplayer screen takes half the screnn of the HD.Also it is impossible to change channels as the buttons seem pressed there.
On Landscape mode the screen is filled up almost to the 90% capacity of the HD , thus making it very very comfortable to watch.
Does anyone have any idea how to fix the portrait mode???
Thanks
slingplayer impossible to use (touchscreen version)
has anyone managed to get slingplayer mobile working well on Touch HD? The buttons are impossible to use for the remote very small and not mapped correctly, also the full screen is not the whole screen only part of it.. anyone got any tips? I searched but noone seems to have solved this?
Hope it's sorted soon, asked the wife for a Slingbox for xmas :/

its just about usable although slow to use the menus for remote control functions but the streaming and PQ are excellent so its worth having!
I have it working.
I cannot however hand out the version I am using.
So, please wait. a version that does work perfectly with HD is on its way. I can also state SlingMobile version coming out soon works perfectly on Omnia and on the X1.
Sorry I can't hand this out, and please do not ask, as refusal may offend.
Ah... wonderful news indeed as this is one of my favorite apps.
awesome, figured out I can get the current version usable with Sky plus by using the favourites buttons to set the most common remote control functions but it would be good to have a version that works with WVGA properly!! Any idea on timelines for the newer version?
Any News?

There are a few more there to relating to WM and HD.
MOD EDIT

Hi
Anyone seen a simple digital compass that uses the GPS and G-Sensor?
I know there are loads of GPS apps that provide a compass and, of course, the HD will need some initial directional input to get a compass bearing. But, after that start-up would it not be possible to provide a compass movement based on the G-Sensor ?
Thanks, D.
You mean that the g-sensor could sense the magnetic field on earth? That would be great but a think its a bit optimistic.
I cant figure out why such advanced devices dont have a digital compass. A map+gps used for walking is almost useless when you dont have a compass, and the gps can only give you a bering at a sertain speed (usually faster than walking)
Noop - that was not what I meant - sorry if not clear.
What I mean is the G-Sensor is able to detect direction of the device. So, once the HD has got some compass bearing (using the GPS after travelling for a while) then the G-Sensor should be able to provide a compass bearing?
The main problem is getting that initial bearing. After than the G-Sensor should allow the HD to keep track of bearings?
my opinion : inside the HD, it's just G sensors (able to "feel" where is the weight of the device pointing, ie "where is the center of the earth").
What you describe could be achieved with (and i would say at least 2, 3 being even better) ACCELEROMETERS, devices able to MEASURE accelerations. THEN it would be able to follow a bearing after giving it an initial one. (what you describe looks actually like the basic function of how airplanes IRS, Inertial Reference Systems, works. Which is a major instrumentation for aircraft navigation, comprising 3 accelerometers ).
My suggestion on a compass was initiated by seeing the funny (but useless!) Diamond Saber - star wars laser sword.
Playing with that more carefully on a flat surface indicates that maybe you're right that the "G Sensor" is not a full 3D accelerometer implementation. Or, maybe the software for this silly but fun light saber is not accessing the rotation details ??
The alternative is just the old watch and sun trick !

Thinking about this today I realised that the idea is probably not sensible !!
Everytime you switch the phone off when using a "possible compass" then it will need a new bearing. So, best just to stick with the "normal" GPS applications.
The HTC footprints is a very useful application thats bundled with the new marketed HTC touch Cruise II. It can save pictures with notes and GPS location and actual address ( with either google map or papago or other navigation software ) and saves it together for future use.
Someone ported it for Touch and it seems working on other HTC devices but its just not working on the Diamond.
Anyone has any ideas?
bumpipty bump
I think that it is still a work in progress.
Check: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=479057
Thread refers to the tab-integration into TF3D, but still a work in progress
Still no news??? Really looking for... I tried on cruise...impressing new way of nav-....!!!
There's a standalone version. it runs on HD but isnt usable as text is overlapping and miss-ailgned not really usable.. tab version i saw was Diamond only. Wish thed get this as a tab on HD.
Me too. Im really looking forward to it on my HD!
I got a version on the forums here and it works great.Only issue is that it is either qvga or vga so the fonts are a little wonky. I also have no tab for it so i added it the the launcher.
Actual function of the program is great and the one I have even interacts with tomtom and I can tell it to navigate to the spot the picture was taken and it will launch tomtom and set the location as my destination.
edited for asking a stoopid question!!
great game!!! we need more of this!
Has there been any development on this does anyone know? Any of the Chefs here had a dabble at it?
This is very helpful~
Considering buying touch hd, but being able to use gpsdash2 is reasonably important for me. Does it work? If yes, does it work at full resolution? My present pda is a mio a701 and I use gpsdash2 with 1:25.000 maps for registrering botanical locations. Your feedback will be appreciated.

Ok, so nobody seems to know gpsdash2. Is there anybody out there who would be so fantastically kind as to download and install the program and give me some feedback (I know it is a lot to ask)?
Gpsdash2 can be found here:
http://wimobi.com/gpsdash/overview.ppc2.php
I bought this software what seems years ago for my HTC smartphone (qtek 8310). At that time, it was way ahead of its time. Then, after one update, the developer went offline and never reappeared ever since.
At the moment, I am using Oziexplorer which does the job even better and is supported. Obviously, I now have a ppc (touch HD) and no longer a smartphone.
Conclusion: stay clear of Gpsdash2. It's dead.
Thank you for answering. You are right, of course, gpsdash2 has not been developed for some time. However, I would still like to know how it performs on touch hd, as it it is the program I am used to.
I had a look at Oziexplorer and that will be my alternative, if I cannot use gpsdash2. Does Oziexplorer utilies the full resolution of touch hd?
Doesnt boot on mine sry

I am not sure. It does occupy the full size of the display but the templates you call upon are not 800x480. I don't think it makes a difference as you don't need this sort of resolution with oziexplorer. The maps are actually processed by the software in multiple resolutions, which allows to have crystal clear displays as you zoom in and out. Seing is believing: test it and you'll forget about gpsdash2.
Hope that helps.
ive just tried this on dutty 3.3 XT rom and i get FRamework error? sayin to reinstall.
any ideas why this wont work?
Let's have a look at
HTML:
http://www.vitotechnology.com/en/products/smartnavigator.html
VITO SmartNavigator works on Blackstone without problems and looks better than gpsdash2.
Problem solved
Thank you all for your replies. Did not get any real feedback on the functionality of gpsdash2, but you gave me some alternatives. Went ahead and bought the touch hd anyway (what an instrument!!!), and after trying both gpsdash2, your suggestions and a couple of other gpsprograms, I came to the following conclusions:
1. Gpsdash2 works to a certain degree if you change screen resolution to vga before installing and before using. However, I am not able to access all menus, so that dosen´t really work for me.
2. Tried Oziexplorer and it is obviosly a wonderfull program. For my needs it is overkill (I don´t need all those functions) and it costs real money. I´ll will certainly keep it in mind should my needs change.
3. Had a look at Vito Smartnavigator, and it would probably have done the job. However, it worries me that the program dosen´t figure on Vito homepage and I had to download from some random site. So what about development and even more important, where to buy a license?
4. Tried some freeware programs and ended up with Terracrosser, http://terracrosser.com, and it does excatly what I need and no more. I have to use sattelite photos instead of 1:25.000 maps, but the program downloads and saves them automatically from google with precise geographical calibration, and I can get the equivalent of 1:6.000 maps if I need it. So a lot less work for me.
Again, thank you all for your contributions.

Terracrosser
I have been using terracrosser and it is wonderful. Best thing is, it is a freeware and I can download goolge maps or yahoo maps (both map and satellite images). It is really easy and I can download selected region. I have maps of places I visit frequently and I add new maps if I am visiting new places. It also works with gps and also gives speed.
The user interface is not so touch screen user friendly when it comes to scrolling the maps. But not a big problem as map scrolling is seldom needed when you have gps. Also the program is under development so lot of new features are being added.
I got TomTom bundled with the Athena and Cruise, no such luck with the TP2. Any suggestions or recommendations about which package to go for for TP2, bearing in mind the wide screen etc.
All suggestions welcome
i have tried 3 sat navs over the years. obvious one is tomtom, i use copilot 7 and have no probs. i have read and heard great reports of mcguider? might want to check the spelling. very popular is garmin xt but word of warning.... youll have to hot swap your sd card and that is no fun. workarounds available but not worth messing around with it.
i went for copilot live 7 because i found a cheap one on ebay and no need to hot swap. its very clear and works with most devices.
I think that should be a good short list. no doubt others will champion other brands.
I use TomTom, have no problems with it at all, works 100%

Yes indeed, but it's the 480 X 800 screen that might present an issue
I use tomtom7, but for some reason on my kaiser and rhodium it runs SO SLOWLY.
I only get about 0.75 frames per second update time, which frankly is terrible compared to the 3-5fps that you would see on a standalone tomtom unit.

I use 7.915, the latest version which runs flawlessly.
As mentioned ... I have CPL6 and it works fine on the TP2 taking up the whole of the WVGA screen except the initial splash and performs well.
Paul.
igo8 (latest version) works on mine just fine. Same version I was using on the HD
iGo 8
I cant get iGo 8 to work to save my life!, I've installed and re-installed countless times now and Iget the same issue, it installs fine but wont start the application, even to give me the license agreement page.
it just bombs out and it's really cramping my phone at the moment... any ideas?

Hi
I couldn't get IGo8 to run with A-GPS enabled. It still works fine.

A-GPS
Hi there,
I might be really stupid but where in the settings is the option to switch off Assisted GPS?
I'm surprised that it doesnt work with A-GPS as the Kaiser had no issues at all.
Thanks for your help
