the way you do it should be the right way ( accoording yo many others )
but with me it does not work ( several different rom's ) what does work is the camera it makes a picture and stores it in my poi but you can not get it in footprints. What i do now is take a picture with the normal camera ( so not the gps camera from footprints ) then in album i select set as footprint then it turns up in the footprint tap and then you cabn ad gps info etc with edit
touch hd
at this moment Xannytech grid leo 1.9
same here, with energyrom 21877 and LIA v14.5 21882
anyone has a solution?

I'd love to know the same thing b/c I can't figure it out for the life of me!!! IDK whats not making it work properly, rather odd and I'm surprised no ones figured it out yet considering roms have had it in it for quiet some time!! I hope this gets sorted out b/c I'd like to use it as it was intended!!
I've tried every work around and I've come up w/no solutions!!
bizarre, with this rom its working !
[ROM][GER][28/11/09][21882/28005] RTT Leet R8 (xda_uc)
with the com8 release footprints works, but not with com2 release.

I should be getting my new artemis tomorrow. Im off on holiday soon and im hoping that when you take a picture there is an option to log the gps coordinates so you can tell where I was taken. Maybe you can even import them into google earth????
If this isn’t possible maybe there is some 3rd party software. Or any other good gps tracing applications??
Soz if this has already been covered, I have had a look at previous post!!!
There are lots of apps which get GPS coordinates. These are mostly for some Bluetooth GPS devices as diagnostics software. The German .NET Magazine dotnet pro had an article about getting GPS coordinates. If you are familiar with .NET programming you could write an additional GoogleEarth export.
Alternatively you could look after some ready made tools.
Im really surprised that nobody else wants to do this on a pda especially as the Artemis has a built in gps receiver!!!
!
I have since learned that this is called geotagging and some digital cameras with now embed the gps coordinated onto the picture. Web sites like http://www.panoramio.com/ which make a kml file to view your pics in google earth.
At the moment tho i have to find these coordinates by using picasa 2
and using their geotag option but you still have to find the location manually on google earth
download picasa here: http://picasa-server.com/?s=yp_uk&OVRAW=picasa 2&OVKEY=picasa 2&OVMTC=standard
It would be so much easier to be able to just take a pic on the Artemis and have the coordinates automacally embedded on to the file!
Any new ideas????
I heard that the Dopod ROM has this feature (geo coding). So solution for other ROMs yet.
im quite happy with my rom at the mo, dont wanna mess about with it. But if thats the only way i might have to look into it
Here is the solution to activate the gps photo on the Artemis...
Go to HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\HTC\Camera\
create a new folder called P9 and then
"ProfileName"="GPS Photo"
"MainCamCaptSize"=dword:00000040
"Enable"=dword:00000001
"2ndCamSupportCaptSize"=dword:00000054
"MainCamSupportCaptSize"=dword:000002D4
"2ndCamCaptSize"=dword:00000040
"EnableRecLimit"=dword:00000000
"RecLimitSize"=dword:0000005F
"RecLimitedType"=dword:00000000
"EncodeFormat"=dword:00000003
"CaptureFormat"=dword:00000002
"Property"=dword:018013BD
"CaptureType"=dword:00000008
"ProfileName_0409"="GPS Photo"
or you can import with Resco the attached registry file.
Some friend tell me that they have on the registry the folder P9.
In this case you must only change the registry value Enable from 0 to 1
That is awesome, great that this can be done via registry. Wonder why htc disabled it per default.

Yes. This is correct when the last ROM you updated from was the Dopod one.
While we are at this let me share my findings:
1. You can improve the camera pictures (at least if you uped. from dopod rom as I did) by going to the ext.rom with total commander and running the cab CP_061025_P800W_CamAgentCab.enus. The pic quality of the plain PDAMobiz rom is worse than the htc or real Dopod one, with a yellow hue
2. The radio rom is not updated, so it inherits that of last ROM before you went to the PDAMobiz one
Cheers
anyone done this yet? im just about 2 try!
It works!!!!! if you upload your pics to http://www.panoramio.com they will then create a kml file to view in google earth!
Cheers guys!!!
Yes, it works!
If you start the camera application,m you have to choose a different Profile in the left top of the screen.
Choose the Camera-sign with the cross, so the phone tries to get a GPS-Fix.
If the fix is established, you can make a photo.
But is the any other possibility to use the new information in Google Earth as panoramio?

Im not sure what question your asking?
I read the lat and long of the picture with an exif reader and use it in Google Map
It works in my P-3300. Thanks

I've tried this and suceed to take photos. But how and where can I see them geo-referenced??
if you download googles free picture viewer/editor in properties you will find the coordinates. make sure that you have selected the gps mode on the camera it will flash up searching for gps signal.
GPS-mode in camera works great, thank you very much. However I've lost vibration function for incoming calls, probably coincidentally, but I'm not sure.

For the vibration function try to see in HKCU\ControlPanel\Sounds\RingTone0\Script
you must have in the script a v with a number i.e v2 means vibrate for two second, or v0 vibrate always...
Like many of you i am sure an attraction of this device was the GPS function.... now i was wondering does anyone know of a program that can use the GPS to record the longs and lats and dump them to an xml file when a button is pressed? For example i take a photo, it has a timestamp.... i then take the long/lat with this program and save it to an xml then when i get back i can link it all up and then plot it to a map where i was and what it looked like... Anyone? Or even an automated way to take a GPS location save it to an XML and link it to a photo for example.
But really what i want as a barebones is just away to press the screen and dump the location to a txt or an XML with a line or so of writing so i can link it to what i was doing or where a location is.
Anyone?
Would anyone find this useful or is it just me?
For GPS exif data take a look at the following thread:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=292560http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=292560
ok then that looks great howevs does anyone have a fix for making the minutes in lat and long differ? or have any info on a possible fix or another program?
Its the seconds that appear to be the issue, not the mins
strange though with the HTC Artemis P3300 it works fine but with the O2 XDA Orbit or the T-Mobile MDA C III it messes up, not found anything as yet to address this though - Mike

Check out the GPS Tuner website. http://www.gpstuner.com/
They also have a free program called "Map Calibrator" which I think does what you want.

Hmm i wonder can anyone extract the camera app and stettings etc of the P3300 to try it on the XDA/MDA?
And Mike you are right im sorry it is the seconds that are just coppied between each other.
I doubt the GPSTuner application can do this functionality, what we are talking about is embeding the Lat/ Long information directly in to a photograph taken with the onboard camera, its a nice application though all the same.
The GPS Software is the same on both the HTC P3300 and the MDA C-III (if you check the Exif info it lists them as 29.29.9.9 on either device - not got direct access to an O2 Orbit to check).
The Camera versions are the same but the Build number is different (24865 on the HTC P3300, and MDA C-III is Build 24724, will have to try "playing" around a bit more - Mike
If anyone wants to help, I've been putting together an application to fix this long/lat camera issue on the Artemis/Orbit
So far I have the following working
1. monitor a given folder on the device for new jpegs as they are created
2. query the satellites for the correct GPS long/lat values
3. update code to write to the EXIF GPS values for a given JPEG
I have a mixture of C# and C++ code, which I need to combine into a single application.
If anyone has C# or C++ skills and wants to help, then please PM me and I'll share what I have so far
I've also posted this here:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=1217400#post1217400 post #54
Ah that seems to be a great idea i will eargerly await any info on it.
I still hope that HTC fix this issue would be a great not to have to use additional applications.
since I've updated to O2-GER WM6, and enabled the GPS Option in the registry, it's not working any more as it does in WM5. I can take photos in that mode, but when I switch to it, the GPS is not activated as in WM5, and no exif data are available.
Anyone an idea?
Edit: I've posted a workarround in #7
Ahh it would be nice if this worked out because the lat:long on the old version of gps-photo taking in WM5 was broken.
Peter? Are you saying that it doesn't ind a signal so trips out? Have you changed any defualt settings for the GPS config? eg Com 4?
Also want to see the registry hack for this one.
Same settings as in WM5, and same registry entrys. I had hoped, that the lat/long buck would be solved, but the problem grows.
In WM5, you could see, that GPS would be enabled, if you change to that camera mode. - Flasching GPS-LED and runnig dots in the lower right corner of the screen during GPS.sync. That doesn't occur since WM6
The attached file is the WM5 registry entry !
Same problem here GPS photo mode do not work any more on wm6
the option is there but GPS does not work
This might be a solution for that problem
http://www.mobile2day.de/news/news_details.html?nid=11575
But it didn't work with my WM6 Orbit in the demo version.
I apologize that the Link shows only a german web site
Meanwhile I've found a workarround with the internal funktion.
The lat/long bug semms to be solved!
First I've enabled the P9 camera funktion.
When I start the camera the first time, a screen appears, where I am asked, where to store the images. It doesn't matter what I choose, but the 'don't show this message again' should not be marked.
When I now choose the GPS Exif mode, it works.
When I start the camera a second time, it wont work, if the screen where to store the images doesn't appear. So I have to choose the internal memory in the upper task bar. Closing the canmera and starting again, the desired sceen appears again, and the GPS funktion is working.
I've tested it with the O2Ger WM6
Hi can anyone fill me in here If I understand correctly you can take a photo in GPS mode.
I cant find this anywhere Iam still using WM5 not 6 so where can I find this capability, hope you can help..
Take the registry file, I've posted in #4, and add it to the xda registry, and in the camera menue is the GPS mod enabled. But ther is another bug in WM5, so You got a position error in east-west direction up to 1/2 mile
excuse me being stupid where is the registry i cant find it LOL
No matter!
The attached file camera_gps.zip in my post #4 in the beginning of this this thread includes the registry entry for WM5
What do you do with GPS embedded photos?
Hi guys,
I am able to take GPS photos with my HTC P3300. Could anyone please tell me what to do with them? Sorry for the STUPID question but can they be used as POI's for Tomtom? If YES, how?
Thanks for your help!
You can regard the place where You took those GPS photos in google earth.
These function is implemented in several pc viewers, e.g. irfan view.
I am with you guys so far but how and where do I paste it to . I cant find how to paste to the registry could someone help please
I imagine its easy and I am just being stupid but I cant work it out
Thanks
Thanks for your prompt reaction...
Is this the only thing we can do with these photos? I thought that we could use them with TomTom or other nav applications.... Please let me know. Thanx

You need a registry editor like Resco Registry
Go to HKLM/ Software/Htc/Camera/P9
and set enable to '1'
thats all
still doesn't work, i see the exifcamera icon in the setting of the cam and yes enabled the p9..but gps doesn't start. no blinking orange left led.
any updates fro wm6?
See my post #7. There I have described the workarround
i did it, but it didn't worked...so i tried it again.
i went with resco to the key and yes it was already enabled. so i put again 1 in de key and saved it over and damn NOW IT WORKS!
just one time till you turn the cam off (you can take as many pictures if you like), so as i understand it, everytime you want to do it you have to save the key again to use it.
Thanks a million dude, lets wait now for someone to solve it permenantly.

Well you also need to go in the camera settings and change the mode to "GPS Photo". Why on earth was GPS photo disabled on the O2 Orbit!!! They missed a massive opportunity there I think.
The HTC footprints is a very useful application thats bundled with the new marketed HTC touch Cruise II. It can save pictures with notes and GPS location and actual address ( with either google map or papago or other navigation software ) and saves it together for future use.
Someone ported it for Touch and it seems working on other HTC devices but its just not working on the Diamond.
Anyone has any ideas?
bumpipty bump
I think that it is still a work in progress.
Check: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=479057
Thread refers to the tab-integration into TF3D, but still a work in progress
Still no news??? Really looking for... I tried on cruise...impressing new way of nav-....!!!
There's a standalone version. it runs on HD but isnt usable as text is overlapping and miss-ailgned not really usable.. tab version i saw was Diamond only. Wish thed get this as a tab on HD.
Me too. Im really looking forward to it on my HD!
I got a version on the forums here and it works great.Only issue is that it is either qvga or vga so the fonts are a little wonky. I also have no tab for it so i added it the the launcher.
Actual function of the program is great and the one I have even interacts with tomtom and I can tell it to navigate to the spot the picture was taken and it will launch tomtom and set the location as my destination.
edited for asking a stoopid question!!
great game!!! we need more of this!
Has there been any development on this does anyone know? Any of the Chefs here had a dabble at it?
This is very helpful~
Hi,
I've noticed that the Manila 2.5 responds faster than the older versions - I mean the time needed to load the content of a tab after navigating to it. And I mean the time's shorter not on the HTC HD2 (that's obvious with the Snapdragon and ~450MB RAM), only on my Touch Diamond. I guess it's because HD2 has more RAM and the content of every tab is loaded to the memory at the start of Manila, not when navigating to it.
So my question is if it is possible to tweak Manila 2.1 to load the contents of each tab at the start of the system. I know it would consume more RAM, but it would be much, much faster.
I hope someone will be interested in this
Cheers,
Kamil

if the dll are modules then the page opens faster.
while cooking is the dll s are rec modded the the tab response is slower..
So it can be done while cooking a rom, right? Sorry, but I'm a noob in this topic It would be great to have the tabs respond faster, even if the memory usage would grow much!
Anybody's got another idea how to make the tabs open faster?
I've tried to make the sms tab load less messages, hoping that this would make it load faster ...but it did not help at all. It takes about 2,5 seconds to load the sms tab! I (and I guess that many other people) would be very happy to shorten that time - any ideas?
I'm also interested in this.. I use laurentius ROM on my HD which is the fastest I've ever tried, but switching between tabs still takes a few seconds which is really annoying!
I'm still trying to do something with the content of the tab showing up slow and I need some help. I partly understand what's happening on the release of the slider over a tab. The slider icon is moved (TabJumpTo function) and the Navigate function is activated - and here's the problem. There's a line:
Code:
_application.Navigation:Navigate(...)
What is _application? I've seen that you can set/get registry values thanks to this, but where is it defined?
What I want to do is load all of the tabs' content while loading Manila and set it to invisible. After releasing the slider over a tab, the content of the tab would be set to visible. I think this should work, but I need to know what is _application
I hope someone will be able to explain me! Thanks in advance.
I was looking for that too, but then I got an idea - the home tab is always preloaded, isn't it? at least it is faster than any other tab, so I guess yes. I did some small searching and I found something interesting: fakehome. I don't understand LUA well, but it seems that the home tab somehow uses something called fakehome to keep preloaded data and graphics. But I also may be completely wrong
It's good to see that someone is also interested in this topic Unfortunately, fakehome is a mode9 file and there's nothing important in it.
I solved the problem of the slow message tab. The reason why it was opening so long was the number of messages in my inbox - over 1600... Now I have about 50 and it's much faster.

bummer
Try to cook without HTC Task Manager....
Only MS Task Manager.
Would it really speed up Manila? I don't see any connection between these two things...
I also noticed the lag on the messaging app, and subsequantly deleted all my messages. However, ive accepted there is going to be lag with it and its just the trade off of running sense 2.5 on the touch pro 2.
Something ive noticed though is there a slight delay u get while scrolling sliding from the home tab on the tf3d to somewhere else, and how this lag aint there when starting from a different tab.
Is there any way to solve this and to make scrolling from the home tab quicker? Apart from this I am very happy with the new rom despite some hickups (which are to be expected due to the lack of snapdragon)
Really i don`t understand why you want app like this when you can do it without app hacks etc.
I know one things very easy and im doing it from 2 years since i have Blackstone
Example after rebot .. wait the whole OS to be loaded etc, once is loaded you click on everytab and wait for the animation, after you do this for all the tabs, they are NOW loaded in some cache and your Manila is faster.
All this take you around 5 Seconds and no need any App.
Also click once da dialer and close it ...this will help your dialer to open faster next time when you use it.

Yes, please! Anyone know how to speed up the slider when starting from the home tab? My slider is superquick starting from any other tab. There must be a fix as I've tried a few other ROMs and they seem to have gotten it worked out.
