As a former 3y user of UIQ3 phones ( SE M600 & P1 ) I'm missing some very comfortable functions as :
1. Adding multiple SMS recipients at a time. I usually send messages to 20 or more recipients and selecting them 1 by 1 takes a looooot of time.
2. Displaying contacts in different pattern - for example company first, name second etc.
Thanks for helping.
1. In the "To" field of the messaging app, you can simply start typing the contact's name and it will predict the number. It's intuitive, easy and fast. So this shouldn't be a problem.
2. In the default Windows Mobile contacts app, you can view by company or by name. So, also no problems here.
By the way, this is not specific to the TP2. This applies to all Windows Mobile devices. You may want to do some more research into this platform if you are interested in buying it.
by the way: is it possible to create SMS-Groups like in 3rd Party tools ?

DISCLAIMER: This is an unofficial app (lowercase 'a' for app because it's NOT a 'Facebook Application'). It is unofficial because I have not signed a ToS with Facebook. This application is for EDUCATIONAL-USES only. It is recommended you do not use this. Using this MAY breech your User agreement with Facebook, which means your personal account may be suspended, deleted, blocked, or banned. You have been warned.
the welcome screen contains a menu. the menu can launch the email input screen, which is where you manually type the email contained in an image. it can also force a manual sync, once the wizard was completed at least once before.
enter your facebook email and password here. click next to save login details to device.
socialsync will now fetch your friends list, so this takes about 8 http requests per 100 friends.
now you can link facebook friends (on the left) with pocket outlook contacts (on the right).
this is where you can import facebook friends that does not have a corresponding outlook contact already.
your sync profile has been saved and is ready to do an initial sync.
this is the actual sync process. it takes 4 http requests per contact to get their information.

so the diff between this and the sense ability is you can import all facebook contacts that have phone numbers not just ones that are in your phone already?

oops, didn't know that Sense can do this, which version?
but yeah, mine does more then.. it can bring down new facebook friends and create new contacts on phone, but also their email address, date of birth, address, contact pic --> outlook pic, IM addresses, etc
I would love this, but the reason we haven't had this so far is that it violates Facebooks TOS and gets people banned for doing this. Will this not be a problem?

I would love this too and it would be a shame if it did violate the TOS - I can't see how it can? - my Facebook friends update their individual privacy policies to allow me to view the information they wish. As far as I can see that's all the app is fetching?
Please do continue this project if you can, even if Sense does already have this functionality - I don't have sense (the ui!)! Doesn't SPB Mobile Shell do this too?
The way I see it, is this is just a custom User-Agent. If Facebook want to go round "banning" people for using a non-normal browser, then it's not a site I'd like to use.
I imagine people will be syncing once a day or once a week.. I've been syncing like every 5 minutes for a week with no problem using my own account. I'll let you all know if I ever get "banned".
I'll add a disclaimer to first post, but brandall got it on the head; this is all information shared and authorised for by your friends.. this app just saves you having to click each profile by hand and eye to manually update your phone. It's also a bit like any HTTP cache/proxy or FasterFox.
Plus, in theory, how could they ever tell? I haven't done a byte-by-byte comparison, but I do things like Referrer tracking, cookies, random delays.. for all they know it's a scriptlet running in firefox.. and even if they deployed javascript obfuscation, this sync could just run an IE session in a hidden window and use DOM to access the data..
I like this app a lot and look forward to its release.
I also look forward to it. Been looking for something like this for a long time. Any chance it will be wvga as well?
Facebook doesn't allow any application that can access personal details other than Names and Birthdays. Phone numbers, addresses, etc are all off limits. If you account is running any app that access that stuff you can be banned. It's happened many times in the past. Just look up "Facebook sync to Outlook" or a derivitave of that.
If this app has a way around that, then sweet.
Great!
Finally a Facebook Sync! Thank you so much
hello
this is to encourage you more and more to do this genius idea... a really very useful and practical ideal

I think its great and ready to try it and let you know what happened
First version posted to first post!
It's not .cab yet, no idea how to make .cabs..
just unzip to \program files\SocialSync\ or somewhere and run
Thanks! It feels a bit rough on the edges, but does work well!
Is it possible to choose what data to sync? For some friends, I prefer not to have their profile pictures sync'ed.

not yet, can't think how to present per-user selective importing on a 3-inch user interface
what is the most annoying rough-edge? i would like to polish that.
donations welcomed (for my personal efforts on this forum; not specifically this app)
very nice!! although i spent 1 hour linking my facebook account to outlook it is still a nice idea...
few suggestions:
1- option for exporting link information in case i need to redo all that after a room upgrade
2- also like previous comments, the name boxes are small so if i have 3 guys named Mohammad i do not know which one is which...
3- easier search in outlook contacts by allowing to type names instead of searching in a big contacts list
thank you for your effort, you are really achieving something here, although it is only for educactional purposes only
wow, why did it take an hour? i did put randomised delays inbetween requests, but they are quite low (0.1-1.5 secs).
1. to backup partnership database, just back up your outlook/pimstore.. the partnership exists because the GovernmentID field is filled in with a facebook profile url. this is the key to breaking sync relationships with a contact.
the file on device friends.dat is just a cache of friends, it can be lost with no problem.
2. i struggled to find a decent gui toolkit to use for this app. microsoft made an iphone GUI clone but it's too complex to digest (no design-time support, no docs, no support).. but in March we should all see Compact Silverlight Beta, maybe that can help. basically I use a ListBox which doesnt support left/right scrolling. maybe i'll try a ListView if that exists in CF..
3. i could maybe do that. what part of my auto-guess feature doesn't help you properly? on my phone it's a snap to find someone - it jumps to the closest named contact whenever i select a new fb friend on the left..
I use the HTC email client for Exchange email and want to try to set the font to the same I use on my regular computer. I use Arial 10 for emails on my laptop, but this client keeps setting emails/replies to Times New Roman 12.
Can't understand why manufacturers can't understand that this is important to many business users, especially since it would be relatively easy to implement in the software. (Another owner and I modified the Roadsync software that came with our Samsung Omnia HDs to change the font with a hack and it turns out the phone doesn't need the actual font installed, it's just a specification line in the html header for the email that gets adjusted.)
Still, hoping against hope that there's already a solution out there.
Does anybody know of a way to change the font of new emails and replies to emails in the HTC email client?
I want to bump this one now that we'll be able to get root access to our Desires.
Unless somebody comes up with an easier solution, I'm hoping that we'll be able to find some kind of resource file related to the HTC email app stating:
Content-Type: text/plain; charset="utf-8"
Content-Transfer-Encoding: base64
That we could mod to something like this:
Content-Type: text/plain; charset="Windows-1252"
Content-Transfer-Encoding: quoted-printable
Since getting the phone, I've been using the regular Sense Exchange email client and have been very happy with it with this one exception.
While most of my clients use the Outlook 2007 font standard of Calibri 11pt and some use the old standard of Arial 10pt, NONE use Times New Roman unless their using plain text rather than HTML emails.
An important part of freeing oneself from the desk or office is being able to seemlessly move around without shouting to the world "I'm not in my office", which many interpret as "I'm not at work". Responding to emails in a clearly mobile format, plain text or something that looks like plain text is not consistent with that, so why on earth have HTC chosen to use a font in HTML email responses or new emails that looks like plain text? Without the option of changing it?
I got tired of waiting for something to happen with the HTC app, so I reviewed the user manuals of Moxier Mail, RoadSync and Touchdown. I discovered that Touchdown allows you to adjust the font however you want in the settings. While the header of the last email sent is still in Times New Roman (if you include the email history), the body of your email from the Desire (or other Android phone) is adjusted to what you want. The rest of the app takes a little getting used to, but while different is at least as good as the built-in Sense client.
So now I'm happy to say that I'm able to send and respond to emails from my Desire using Calibri 11pt, the same as my office computer.
anyone any idea how to make the Motoblur contact names the ones that appear by default.
I uploaded a .vcf from my old Sony Ericsson with all the proper names to motoblur, then linked certain contacts with the twitter built in thing.
So if the name was Marc in the phonebook, now it takes the twitter name of marco1999
The Contacts app makes the right choices most of the time, but it also has a mind of it's own in how it decides what to name the resulting linked contacts. All things being equal, the currently viewed contact is being linked to another contact and it assumes that contact's name. Simple enough, unless the linked to contact does not have an email, or web site URLs, AND the viewed contact does, in which case the resulting contact will assume the name of the currently viewed contact (the one that's being linked to the other contact).
I got my contacts linked from 7 different places, and some of the contacts would have just a phone #, some just a website URL, and so on. The only way to reign in the order (names) I wanted that I resorted to was to keep unlinking, then renaming some contacts and then re-linking them back again. It took some manual work, but not as much as I feared, and maybe there's a simpler way, but this is what worked for me.
Good luck.
thanks for that, unfortunately, no matter what I do, it always takes the twitter name for profiles. I think maybe it's because Twitter is the picture source for contacts. I tried adding a picture to the phone contact, but the twitter name still overrides it.
In contact edit, there's even a nickname function - I hoped this would take precedence over everything, but unfortunately not!
[Q] Is it possible to get the "Chat Tab" into the contact for direct IM calling?
Hi All,
I'm using some apps (SipDriod, AntiSIP, Linphone) to make calls via SIP to a contact URI - essentially these URIs are the same as IM address and I store the URI in the IM field of the contact. On the various app dev forums they say that the SIP URI should be directly accessible from the contact info by use the "Chat" tab. However, I cannot see such a tab available to me on my HTC Desire.
I have had some info that this should be available using the standard Android contact manager, but the HTC Sense overly may be blocking this. Is there any way I can get the standard (or third party) contact manager specifically for this functionality without screwing up the HTC Sense People manager (as I quite like the normal search functionality)?
I can't root the phone and put a different ROM on for the moment as it is a brand new works phone from Orange, which means I can't go back to a stock image.
Cheers
