TP2 functionality questions - Touch Pro2, Tilt 2 Windows Mobile General

As a former 3y user of UIQ3 phones ( SE M600 & P1 ) I'm missing some very comfortable functions as :
1. Adding multiple SMS recipients at a time. I usually send messages to 20 or more recipients and selecting them 1 by 1 takes a looooot of time.
2. Displaying contacts in different pattern - for example company first, name second etc.
Thanks for helping.

1. In the "To" field of the messaging app, you can simply start typing the contact's name and it will predict the number. It's intuitive, easy and fast. So this shouldn't be a problem.
2. In the default Windows Mobile contacts app, you can view by company or by name. So, also no problems here.
By the way, this is not specific to the TP2. This applies to all Windows Mobile devices. You may want to do some more research into this platform if you are interested in buying it.

by the way: is it possible to create SMS-Groups like in 3rd Party tools ?

WM6 - multiple mobile numbers for single contacts

I have some contacts which have multiple mobile numbers. as it stands now, i can only have one dedicated mobile number in the contact details. i would like to have as many as i want, so i can easily sms the additional numbers at any time i choose.
there are some useless (for me) types in there such as: pager, car tel, radio tel. there is everything BUT no Mobile Tel.
i want a Mobile Tel 2 and 3.
is this possible to modify?
i am using WM6 Black 2.0
no its not possible. take it or leave it.
no version to date can do it.
i'll take it thanks!
Inesoft Address Book
There's a pretty good program by Inesoft called Address Book. I've been using it for about a month (with WM6) and it works great. It will allow you to create custom fields in which to enter new names to store numbers under. So you should be able to create Mobile 1 and Mobile 2. It's not a free program though but they do offer a free trial. You can test it out and see what you think. Here's the link.

Will it sync wirelessly/OTA like the built in contacts app?
Jim
I've only tried it through activsync with bluetooth and USB and its worked well. From the looks of it, it seems like it will do everything that contacts did before.
not ideal but I just store there other numbers in any of the random fields left over. then to text them instead of just typing there name in the to section click to the left of it on he "To" and chose the contact from there, it'll let you pick any number

From that it sound's like it fully replaces contacts? Is that how it works because that would be good.. or if it extended the built in application that would be perfect...
I may have mis-understood though.. i guess what im asking is do you have to run a seperate contacts application or is it integrated into the messaging app etc to fully replace the built in contacts system?
Thanks,
Sam
Replaces
It fully replaces your contacts. It won't delete it from your device though. You can still uninstall and get your original contacts back. But through my use everything that I now do will go through address book. Even the softkey goes to the new application.

Form size

Hi, i have a simple chat style sms application i am using on my T-Mobile SDA and i would like to port it to T-Mobile DASH. What should be the Form size so that it would fit the DASH screen?
The screen on a Dash is 320x240 pixels large, and after the browser steals viewing space the user gets about 300x220ish or so in usable space. If you need to do specific testing simply PM me and I would be more than willing to help out and give screen shots on how things look. If you wish to work independently you might want to look into the Microsoft emulators which have been made by Microsoft so people can emulate smart phone devices for testing programs and sites for this exact purpose.
thanks for the quick reply I will try to create blank form and PM you ASAP. I have just bought my excalibur online and havent received it yet so i cant test it on an actual unit.
Is this app a 'replacement' for the messaging account in outlook? Or will the messages continue to go to the existing inbox. Also, is MMS supported? I have waited so long for an app as good as the Palm Messaging beta, created specifically for a smartphone.
Orientation Aware Control
Hey oldsap,
I'm a mobile developer by trade and if you're looking for a flexible way to handle resolutions etc to make you're app a little more portable, take a look at the Orientation Aware Control that microsoft's patterns and practices group created:
http://msdn2.microsoft.com/en-us/library/aa480471.aspx
It can be downloaded from codeplex. Basically, you create a single form and it uses a resource file to store settings for various resolutions (control layout etc). No more need to make multiple copies of a form for each resolution you want to support. Good luck, hope that helps!

for the time being, ive created this to intercept all incoming sms so that they wont go to the inbox. But i can re-code it so that when a new sms arrives:
1. sms wont go to the existing inbox
2. sms will go to both the application AND inbox
it's not a perfect chat style application but it works well for me.
im still waiting for my DASH to arrive (ordered it from ebay) When i have ported it to DASH, ill post it here

Thanks for the tip sir. I'll read about this. Im just a newbie programmer and can only create very very simple applications
I would have to say that a threaded SMS app is not simple!

i refer to my application as "simple" compared to PALM's threaded sms because it only uses Textbox instead of XML. It doesnt use colored fonts to distinguish sent and received sms. But it does have other features like save chat window, group sending, sms sent counter, sms filtering, etc

Just upgraded to 6.1, where is the contact autocomplete feature?

I read about 6.1's ability to use 'find as you type' contact searching in SMS land. As in, I type 'ty' in the TO: field, and 'Tyler Smith' comes up without having to go into the contact list to find it. Anyone know how to enable this functionality?
xT9 is autocomplete compatible. alt + space will get you where you need to go. It's pointless IMHO if you have a complete keyboard.
If you can't type Tyl and scroll to the hundreds of friends you have named Tyler then it's time for your friends to change there names.
I am not looking for autocomplete for words, I'm looking for it for contacts. When I type in the name field, I get word matches, not contact matches. So, if I type 'Ty', it suggests 'Tyler' as a word, but not as a link to anyone in my contacts list.
When one clicks on Contacts in WM 6 or a cooked 6.1, I personally have always been able to type say I'm looking for a girl named Sarah. I type s....a.....r....
It gives me a list of girls I know of Sara or Sarah.
I scroll down to either one I want to call.
If you are trying to do something else??? I don't understand
I'm talking about doing this from a new SMS compose window. I read that 6.1 allows you to use this kind of search within an SMS window, without leaving the TO field.

This is what he's talking about but regarding TEXT messages. Currently, making phone calls works fine like this, but when composing an SMS/MMS, you have to add a recipient the long way...
when you are adding a contact, in the To: field. Center click and your contacts will appear, proceed typing a couple of letters and pick the contact.
If you want multiple contacts, repeat the process.
I know right....

This is one of the features that was anticipated for 6.1, "look up contacts in messaging just like windows mobile professional". But I can't get it to work either. I have no idea what is up. kinda pisses me off actually

Tytn to Desire ... Need a Bit of Help ...

Hey guys,
Justa few quick questions ...
Is there an application or something that will log all the apps I have downloaded via my account and list them for me, so when I do a backup I knwo what I had before?
Is there an app to list the above AND download the latest versions without me having to manually do anything (Shashimi for Android).
I have loads of text on my Tytn is there an easy way to back these up in a rar file or something. I don't want to import them to the desire just store them.
I sue S2U2, I like the Android lock screen BUT I like being able to view my texts/emails without unlocking the device, what options do I have?
Lastly, is there an app to automatically backup your text on a weekly basis and email it to your gmail as an archive? I want it to also ignore the previous week's text.
Am I asking too much L.o.L.?

I don't have an Android phone yet ...and won't do until 7/8/9-April... but playing with my wife's Hero this is what I know...
You seem to have to create a level of Google account in orpder to purchase from Android Market and logging into your Google Account and going to Android Market will bring up a list of your previously downloaded apps.
I haven't found a stand alone app for this but purchasing your apps through AppBrain.com and using their AppBrain app seems to do what your asking. AppBrain doesn't seem to list all apps though - definitely missing UK specific apps such as Beebplayer.
I've had WinMo phones for the past 8 years and never heard of a facility to do this - if there is one I'd be chuffed to hear about it myself.
Dunno - someone else will have to answer this one I'm afraid
I believe that most backup apps will do a scheduled backup - Sprite Backup definitely does but to the SD Card only (no automailer), but WRT ignoring previously backed up messages I've not heard of this feature in any backup app.
I hope this helps to some extent.

aTrackDog / AppBrain

AppBrain allows you to create lists on their site, so when you change phones or wipe it, you can tell it to reinstall the whole list. I did that when I moved from G1 to Desire -- worked like a charm.
I have loads of text on my Tytn is there an easy way to back these up in a rar file or something. I don't want to import them to the desire just store them.
You should ask that in TyTN forum

Flyscreen

SMS backup
P.S. sorry, I was lazy and did not include links -- google is your friend

You can store all your text messages online with Microsoft My Phone or else store them on your PC.

THANKS ALL!
Will have a look at this FabianNL as if I can export to individual files then I will be happy. To be honest it isn't a big deal .
Been playing with my Desire for a while, I can see the appeal of Android it's quick, big buttons, keyboard isn't back considering I'm coming from Tytn (as well as a Touch HD but that was BAD).
My next step is ... what programs should I "replace"? I'm refering to applications like mail, text/messages, etc the build in ones.
I am though over the moon with the device the text input ROCKS! I do have a list of applications I need suggestions on though ... I'm used to the following on Windows Phone so I need an Android variation ...
G-Alarm - A Comprehensive alarm application
G-Profile - easily change my profiles from night, work, home, etc, this would be great as a widget
Task Facade - A general task manager that will show all my running applications and let me close/switch
Wake On Text/Email/etc - As it says ... and stay awake until message has been read!
Lock Without using Power button - easy ...
That's about it for now
I use Klaxon for my alarms.
SMS Popup will turn on the screen when you get text messages (not sure if there is similar for emails) and can give reminders untill it's read.
As far as profiles, then would HTC's Scenes not do the trick? Failing this Locale can automagically turn on and off services and silent/loud the ringer based on various criteria like time and location.
You can easily switch to recent apps by pressing and holding the home key
And there are loads of Task Managers on the market for killing running apps
What does sense have for managing profiles?
Hi,
I would like replace my TyTn II to HTC Desire but Im not shure if I will be happy with Desire(Android)...
Main things which wory me are:
1.)Synchronization with PC with USB cable. I DON'T want and will not sync with google account. All I need is same automatic sync line with activesync. I need sync Contacts, Calendar, Emails(Configure which folders), Task's, Notes. Sync will be done with MS Outlook 2007/2010.
2.)Is possible set more than one email account? I need 3x pop3/smtp email accounts.
3.)Is possible disable threaded SMS/MMS? I realy hate this function.
4.)Is there any app which allow connet to windows remote desktop(RDP and not any 3rd party VNC or other)?
5.)Is there some app/pack which can work with word, excel, power point files?
6.)Does included browser support certificates? I know that opera mobile on WinMo do not support it, so I can't manage cPanel server, make payments(bank)...
I think that this is enought for start
Thanks for any help and answers.
Best regards, _Dejan_

[Q] Missing features - need help

I want to start this question off by saying no iHating, or BB hating or Android hating; I am looking for constrcutive answers and not a bashing of the other players out there.
I went from BBs to Androids to iphone and now back to Android.
I have had my share of phones and recently switched from iPhone for the openness of Android.
We are supposed to get more features, better apps, less restrictions, etc...
In the last month and a half, I have tried countless times to Google what I was looking for and to find solutions to the following issues without luck:
And as a starter note, I cannot use Gmail email app (some of my issues are with email app) because I have 2 exchange accounts and one of them does not allow forwarding messages so that app is not an option. Also, K9 is not an option b/c they are exchange 2010 servers. And for some reason Maildroid will not work with one of my accounts, exact same settings from stock email app will not work in mail droid, but that can be for another thread.
So anyways, here are the issues
1) On stock TW roms:
- no spell check.
I not referring to auto-correct which is fine on all roms, I mean the actual spell checking with red underline that is available in stock android and in CM/AOKP (which is assume are stock android).
- No hardware key remapping
2 - On CM/AOKP
Well i can now get the features above that I am missing, but the email app does not allow to:
- zoom out,
- no auto-fitting of messages in portrait mode, they are automatically formatted to landscape mode which is a HUGE pain and very inefficient.
- I can't sort messages to see what I have that is unread; I am forced to scroll the entire list trying to find my unread messages.
- I can't filter in anyway the messages, just search which is extremely slow.
- I can't get notifications of messages that appear into folders for which I have rules, forcing me to go in and manually search these folders.
3 - Finally, in both cases, the following is missing:
- A lockinfo like notification center that allows me to see any and all items that are outstanding :
- all unread messages from all email folders,
- all upcoming calendar appointments,
- all app notifications
All the above should be in one consolidated place and allow you to see each item individually, meaning each and every email listed separately for example, so that I can prioritize which one will get answered first.
for this point I would like to stat that I have tried the following alternatives and have found that they are all flawed:
- Executive assistant (with enhanced email)
- locker pro
- widget locker.
The missing features above were included in stock BB back in 2010 when I first switched to Android; and had been available since I had been available for a while.
They were also included in Iphone when I switched in 2011.
And I have found threads (very old ones) within the Android community asking about these.
I am not looking to bash the GS3, it's a great phone, but a nice screen and a fast processor will only get you so far if the necessary features are not there. The devices are supposed to help us manage all the different tasks of life, and I am finding that this phone (or maybe I should say the android system in general) has now made the task quite difficult.
Again not looking for this to become a bashing contest on the Android competitors, I am just looking for some guidance on getting these features on my phone.
