Sound profiles (not volume levels) - Touch Pro2, Tilt 2 Windows Mobile General

I want to be able to change the sounds for the incoming call, new text message, ect, with a clicks or two...
I have spb phone suite and it allows me to set up profiles to adjust volume levels, but i want an easy way to change the actual sounds.
I want the phone set to a certain group of sounds during the day, and then at night change to a different set of sounds.
Any suggestions on how to get this done without a ton of work or where an app is at that does this?
Again, i dont need to adjust sound levels, but the sounds themselves...

Bringing this back to the top.

I have used Phonealarm for years. It is almost too customizable, but it will change volumes, tones, vibrate patterns, light the LED, and more. Its a Today plug-in but there also a couple of ways to integrate with TF3D.
There's a trial on www.pocketmax.net and I think it will do what you want.

+1 on PhoneAlarm, although I have not tried it on the Tilt 2 yet.

Sweet, thank you.
Im installing this as I type!

Phonealarm doesnt allow you to specify anything more then then ringtone.
You cant specify the sms or mms tones in the profiles...

Au contraire mon frere, with PA 2.2 you can setup custom email/SMS alarms base on subject/sender. I have not tried it yet, but it should work.
Wait, you just one per profile? That is definitely in there.

does PA allow me also to have a specific ringtone played according to the content of received sms'? I mean, having a standard ringtone (for every sms), and a secondary one only for sms that contain the word "emergency"?
thank you

Subject or Sender. Not body. (Do SMS messages have a subject?) I don't get SMS messages (only MMS), so I have not tested it. It's got a 15 day trial, so take it for a spin.

Does this allow you to point to sound files for ring tones or do you still have to dump them all in the messy windows directory? Does this include open close? (keyboard) sounds?

I want the ability to quickly change the phone/sms/mms sounds all at once.
PA does not do this that i could figure out.
If im wrong please help me figure it out, i would be greatful.
Also, if its not any easier then navigating to the default "sounds and notifications" settings then it does no good for me.
Optimally i would like an icon in my apps to click on, and then 1 more click to change sounds.

If I understand what you're asking for, this functionality was included in 6.1 (at least on my Blackjack II and Dash/Excalibur).
I was able to navigate to start > settings > profiles, then have 4 or 5 customizable profiles to choose from. I'd typically use a "silent" profile for situations like sitting in a movie theater, "normal" for everyday use, and "outdoor" or "loud" with everything at full volume.
These profiles were selected either from the profiles menu or by quickly pressing the power button (which puts my Tilt2 to sleep) and selecting the profile I wanted to use.
This is an extremely useful feature. I've looked all over and it appears that it isn't included in Windows Mobile 6.5 which is very surprising.
It looks like there are some 3rd party apps that might do this. This one looks to be the most promising and has a 14 day trial: http://www.penreader.com/windows-mobile-software/Handy_Assistant.html
Edit: This one looks like it might work too - though a little dated: http://www.jgui.net/phoneprofiles/index.html

REVIEW : 4 Phone replacements apps for built in dialer

I wrote this in 30 minutes after working with all of these 4 applications for the past week. It's not complete nor full. But it certainly give a good perspective. Since I wrote it in 30 minutes and I'm in a hurry now, execuse me for typos or spelling mistakes from fast mind-straight-to-the-keyboard typing. lol.
PhonePlus 2
========
PROS:
* Excellent quick one hand 9 dialing mode.
* Integrated with the green button of the phone (BIG BIG plus)
CONS:
* No SMS support (Finger Clix and Extended phone are great)
* No picture of the caller (even though a picture is associated with my PDA2K internal AI app).
* The call hostiry viewer is premitive.
Finger Clix 2
========
PROS:
* SMS Support - When you find a contact, you can click on the big SMS button and it automatically opens the WM2003SE built-in SMS apps with the number there. So it's convenient for SMS sending.
* The SMS that is sent is kept in the Sent items of the built in WM messaging app. So everything is logged (because it uses the built in SMS app)
* Good Caller Photo support - Very nice feature is that the program automatically displays (even during the search) the picture of my contact straight from the internal AI app that comes with the PDA2K. Certainly cool feature. You can easily dial someone even when XXXVING as you see his big picture contact right on the screen, you don't even have to read his name.
* Has a dedicated program for creating skins. This is great.
* Nice Call history with easy switching between outgoing, incoming or missed calls.
* When you get a contact with many pgone numbers, you can choose to make a phone number a 'default' for future uses through the default button,
* The vibrate on tap is a nice feature.
* Nice built-in skin chooser (although I didn't find more than 3 skins out there, but i didn't look hard either)
* Has a button called PLUG-IN which supports internal plugins from software already installed on your PPC (for example: Faxing or easily assigning a photo to the contact you've just selected)
CONS:
* BIG BIG drawback is that it doesn't support my PDA2K green phone cutton! Even when in the app, to dial, you still have to use the on screen phone button. This is a pitty.
* I didn't like the fact that switching between ABC and numbers requires 2 presses, one to go to a selection screen and another to select the righ input type method.
* The human engineering is good, but can be better. For example, when I see a contact on the screen already, I would rather prefer to access the plugins button right from the screen and not have to press the contact info button on the left first.
* Clicking to go to the contacts app, only support the built in premitive pocket outlook contact app and does not support programs such as Pocket Informant or Agena Fusion.
Extended Phone 2.50
===========
PROS:
* Screen displays by default the last call, it's time start/end and duration. Also has 'Hide Call' button to hide it. It also displays the GSM provider you're connected to.
* Easy SMS sending with customizable keyboard for quick entry. BIG SMS buttons make it very easy. Overall very good human engineering here.
* Nice button locks the dialer though not very useful as hardware keys are not locked.
CONS:
* No support for photos (finger clix is great in this regard - that it supports photos from the itnernal pda2k app).
* Does NOT support the green answer button on my PDA2K (BIG DRAWBACK)
IntelliDial
========
Not much to say, except that PhonePlus2, FingerClix2 and Extended Phone all beats this program easily. it's worth mentioning the badly designed small window that automatically searches as you tap (the 9method) And of course the plus that it integrates with the green button (actually it is the green button..)
MY OWN CONCLUSION:
===============
Keep in mind this review isn't thorough or accurate, but it's the way I see it after installing all the apps on my machine and playing around with them for the past several days it's just the say I see it.
All of these apps are far from perfect. It's not like they all have the same features just implemented differently. Each of them has it's own features and unfortunately lacks good features from the others. If one was to take and implement all of these features it would make for the perfect dialer.
As for what is the best app among these 4 ? Well, it depands on which
feature is important to each one of us, so it's very individual. Again, the perfect would be a combination of all of them, but unfortunately it's a dream. My choice so far is the FINGER CLIX 2.0 for the more overall benefits than all other programs I've seen so far.
I would like to hear comments from guys here on what their choice is.
And mostly from people who tried ALL of these applications and not just one of them. They would be able to make a better choice and judgmenet.
Assuming one is happy with the default dialler that comes with the phone, is there any app that works with this dialler that allows the assigning of different ring tones to individual callers?
Thanks!

Hi Sorci,
I favor for FingerClix alwell. :lol:
I tried them all and FingerClix doesn't support the green answer button but it is a very stable program. Something I couldn't say from some of the other programs!
Wouter
Thanks for all replies. I guess the other programs are not stable. I just tried this progrm Potala Telly, it's very nice and has great potential. BUT like the other programs, it lacks very very important features, like the QUICK 9DIAL, it is very slow even when no other program is run, and it already crashed once.
for me, I prefer the built-in dialer!
Nothing will fit all your needs

Custom Sounds on HTC Touch Pro2???

Is there a way to customize startup sounds or error sounds? I would like to change the sound of those, but can't seem to figure out how. Anyone help with that?? It has WinOS 6.1.
Like many of the options on the Touch Pro2, a user interface for the notification sounds appears to be sadly lacking. The default sound for my email alert, for example, it a barely audible beep. I have just had a route through the registry, and all the notifications look as if they are located here:
Code:
HKEY_CURRENT_USER\ControlPanel\Notifications
From here, there are a number of registry keys, most of which are GUIDs, but their associated function is shown by the (default) value inside each key. There's a Wave string value in each, which you should be able to change as required. I've not tried this yet, but will have a go later.

Problems selecting text - in SOME apps

I have just upgraded from a TyTN2/Kaiser to a new TP2/Rhodium running WM 6.1 .. and am enjoying the experience except for one fly in the ointment.
Text selection in certain apps is incredibly painful: using the stylus to select a portion of text is almost always interpreted as an attempt to drag-scroll the display. "Almost always" because if you time it properly, waiting a second or so and start dragging before the context menu pops up, then it sorta kinda works. But the selection seems to kick in quite some time AFTER beginning to drag, and therefore doesn't start at the beginning of the target. And Double-clicks (to select a whole word) no longer stretch word-for-word as I drag.
Most apps still work fine, but the following key apps suffer this annoying misbehaviour:
Contacts - But only the "Notes" tab. All text in the "Details" tab behaves as expected!
SMS texting - This occurs when selecting "Send Text Message" from a contact's Summary display (which is actually my preferred method as it is the quickest!). And it also occurs if you start an SMS from the messaging app via menu options Menu\New\SMS. But if you compose an SMS in the threaded view of a conversation in the same app, then the text selection is ok!
I can't find any posts by others who might be experiencing something similar, so is there a solution for this? A registry hack maybe? Am I the only one who has noticed this problem, or am I the only one who is annoyed so much by it?
Notes tab of Contacts app: I experience the same here. But it doesn't really bother me too much since I rarely have to select text here.
Messaging App: I didn't know you can select text like that (ie. tap and hold for a bit and drag) until you mentioned it! Anyway, if you want to select text here, you can always tap "Menu" and then "Select Text".

I use the contact notes extensively, so it is extremely frustrating to have it compromised and complicated now (compared with TyTN2).

Ahh - thanks for that! Now if only i could find a way to keep that as the default
** UPDATE **
** UPDATE **
I just noticed that everything works properly .. if and only if you use "My Mobiler" to remotely control the phone. So you can use your mouse and your desktop monitor to drag select text in the above compromised apps (including Active Tasks by the way) .. and everything will be fine.
But when it come to using the stylus on the phone's touch-screen directly, the selection still misbehaves!!
This is not a workaround, just mentioning it in the hope that it might help someone enlightened enough to be able to piece the puzzle together

Thanks, but i'm not sure how exactly does it solve the problem? If you mean the post by orlandojumpoff (post #16) about pressing and holding and then dragging when the animation starts, then that's actually the problem itself.
The animation goes by so fast, that each time you do this, it takes a few false starts before you manage to time it right. The overall effect is to give priority to TF3D scrolling at the expense of functionality in terms of text selection. It makes me want to rip out TF3D by it's heart, which of course is a bit overkill.
I'd settle for being able to tell TF3D to stop interfering in specific apps, or simply to stop interferring while editing. Actually, come to think of it .. another viable option might be to find a way to get that animation to take a little longer ... hmmm
One thing you can do to mitigate it somewhat is to double tap on a word to select a word, triple tap to select an entire line. I use Pocket Informant and it too won't allow me to drag to select unless I try to time it like you do. Another trick is to use the hardware keyboard, and your arrow and shift keys combined to select text.
Sure wish the good things we like about WM would stick from version to version, and the bad things would be fixed and stay fixed. Hey, it could happen

There is a similar problem on Topaz (Diamond 2). It seems finger scrolling sensitivity was made too high and it can no more tell finger from stylus. I found a (partial) solution. Maybe it works on Rhodium too.
- Find the registry key "HKLM\Software\OEM\TFLOSettings".
- It should contains a subkey named "TFLOIgnoreAPPs". If it does not exist create it.
- For every application where you want to be able to select text add a string value called "IgnoreAppXY" where XY are two characters different for every entry.
- As value enter the name of the application EXE file as seen in file explorer (warning: case does matter).
From then on for that applications finger scrolling is suppressed and text selection works as expected.
This is a sample from my registry
[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\OEM\TFLOSettings\TFLOIgnoreAPPs]
"IgnoreAppST"="WiFiNetwork.exe"
"IgnoreAppYT"="YouTube.exe"
"IgnoreAppPH"="PIMHelper.exe"
"IgnoreAppNP"="NOTEPAD.exe"
"IgnoreAppCE"="ContactEditor.exe"
"IgnoreAppTM"="tmail.exe"
"WiFiNetwork.exe" and YouTube.exe" were already there. I added "PIMHelper.exe" (editing inside SPB Diary Today plugin),
"ContactEditor.exe" (editing for Contacts), "tmail.exe" (editing for SMS and email) and "NOTEPAD.exe" (Orneta text editor).
Hope it helps.
That method worked for me for Pocket Informant, using "ignoreappPI"="PocketInformant.exe".
Thanks!

Brilliant - Thank you! This is EXACTLY what i was hoping for! Awesome!
Update:
I posted this brilliant solution to the standard thread for Rhodium Cabs,Tips,Tweaks etc
.. Thanks again oruam57!
Just a word of caution. My device already had [HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\OEM\TFLOSettings\TFLOIgnoreAPPs], with YouTube as the only exclusion, but i notice that the board seems to introduce a space into the "TFLOIgnoreAPPs" portion, which might cause problems for some folks who want to try this out.
And for the record, this solution does not solve the problem for the standard editor for Contacts and Tasks, which doesn't have a Process whose name you can use. So I'll start looking at custom editors for Contacts now, but it's good to have this handy tweak within reach!

Maybe I do not understand exactly your problem but on my Topaz:
- in the first tab of standard Contacts and Task editor text selection does work (do not know why, I suppose Touch Flow has some internal logic);
- in the second tab (Notes) of Contacts text selection can be forced working by inserting the process "ContactEditor.exe";
- in the second tab (Notes) of Tasks text selection can be forced working by inserting the process "poutlook.exe".
At any rate using Dotfred's Task Manager (http://www.dotfred.net/TaskMgr.htm) you can inspect processes and windows on your phone and with a little patience you can find the owner process of any interesting window.
Hooray!

@ Oruam57, you're right, thanks again! I was in fact using DotFred's Task Manager to discover the processes .. but i came to the incorrect conclusion (that there was no identifiable processes, for Tasks and for Contacts) because i saw no change in the processes listed between editing and not editing their notes, as poutlook.exe was still running after i edited the notes and while the list of tasks/contacts was still displayed.
And this is how I overlooked the possibility that poutlook.exe itself was the editor
BTW, i notice that the exclusion for poutlook.exe works for the notes of both Tasks AND Contacts, they seem to use the same editor. I have no ContactEditor.exe listed at all, must be for your custom editor.
I tried with on WLMMessenger.exe, but it didint work.
I still cant select ( highlight ) text from a conversation. When i do it begins to scroll..
Has anyone the solution?

Uh oh, not so brilliant. Now my notification SOUNDS continue past the first notice and chime every 20 seconds or so! Do you have the original registry settings? (Yes, I failed to note them.) I'm going to have to roll this one back.
You are right hopper13

Hi:
Thanks for the great post. So far seems to be working perfectly. I only changed the setting for SMS (using the original, pre-edited settings you posted), since I got a little scared by the previous post, but I will change the rest after testing a bit.
So far, looks great though.
Thanks again!
EDIT:
After testing some, I found the same problem Hopper mentioned before. This only happens when phone is asleep. If phone is awake it works properly. I will try the new settings.
Ahhh, much better! My entire office thanks you! lol
New settings working perfectly
Thanks so much for this, I have been looking for a long time for this fix. I even tried NueLED, which did nothing but mess my phone up to the point of requiring a hard reset.
Thanks again!!
PS:
One strange observation; If the TF3D threaded messaging is left open (whether phone is awake or asleep), the LED does not flash on incoming message. Not a big deal though, since I rarely leave it open.
One question, will this also work for reminders?
Thanks again!!

It probably could work for reminders but HTC is controlling the reminders and there is a specific .dll that you need to make a copy of and rename if you want to modify snooze times. I saw a thread about it, but am in class right now so do some searching! I will too if I find time!

Hi:
I actually do know the post you are talking about regarding snooze time (which would be so awesome if it could be changed), but apparently any reg changes seem to return it to the previous WM notifications. But, that is actually not what I meant when I asked about reminders.
What I meant was, will the type of change you posted for sms etc also work to enable the LED to continue to flash when an alarm/notification etc go off? That option is currently greyed out like the others were.
Thanks again!!
Anybody willing to make a cab for these registry changes? It would top off this thread just right!
Thanks
I have applied the changes below (select hex and input "40000019"), but the constant audible alerts continue. :-(

How many notification LED lights on Tilt2 (ATT)
Hi,
Sorry for a stupid question: how many notification LEDs are there on the Tilt2?
My old HTC Hermes (ATT 8525) has TWO LEDs (one each on BOTH sides of the earphone). The one on the left is to indicate charging etc. and the one on the right is to indicate Event Notification.
I did the fix as mentioned in this thread, but it looks to me that my new Tilt2 only has ONE LED light on the LEFT of the earphone. There appears to be a "light tunnel" on the right of the earphone as well, but I have never seen it light up.
I am still trying to figure out the behavior of the Tilt2 notification light. It looks to me that it only uses the left LED. When it is being charged, it shows yellow steady light. When it is fully charged, it shows green steady light. Looks like it blinks in green when there is event notification (but I am not sure for how long and how consistent yet). Does this match to your Tilt2? How about TP2 on other carriers? Did I get a defective one (i.e. only one function notification LED)?
Thanks
decimal 31 is 1F in hex, and hex 40000019 is 1073741849 in decimal for those who cant choose.
this worked on everything but 15F11F90 which is reminders. anybody know how to fix this?

To my knowledge, the Tilt 2 only has 1 LED. The "light tunnel" you talk about is actually the sensor to determine the amount of ambient light, and does NOT light up.

Go and DESELECT the "Repeat" checkbox under Settings, Sounds & Notifications.
Yeah. Thanks for clarifying the LED count.
It appears to me that with the registry fix, the one and only LED will NOT provide notification feature when the phone is being charged. It only shows the solid yellow (charging) and solid green (fully charged) conditions and will override any blinking event notification.
It only provide notification function when the phone is NOT connected.
Anyone notice the same thing?

Want short cut link for Phone Sounds

I installed Easy Launcher which puts short cuts on your today screen. I want to install a shortcut for the Settings-> Personal ->Phone. One day I will buy some software (maybe someone knows of some for free), but everyday at work I set my phone to no ring, and at the end of the day I want to set it back to ring. A short cut on my today screen would help.
Thanks

One day I will buy some software (maybe someone knows of some for free), but everyday at work I set my phone to no ring, and at the end of the day I want to set it back to ring. A short cut on my today screen would help.
Thanks

Why not just use the hardware volume button. Press it up or down, the HTC volume screen appears, select SILENT, and you are done! Or you could set it to vibrate.
I listen to music all day on head phones. I need the volumne up for the music but do not want the phone ring in my cubicle environment. Especially if I get up, leave my desk, and my phone has been ringing nobody appreciates it.

Well, you could disable the HTC Notifications manager. Then you would have the old-style dialogs for your data connection and volume. I mention it because the stock WM dialogs have separate volume controls for Phone and Device.
It is a registry tweak where you change the name of the dll file to something different. When you reset the notifications should be stock instead of HTC.
do you know what the registry change would be to remove the htc notifications?

local machine / services / notificationmanager / Dll.
Change it from NotificationManager.dll to NotificationManager2.dll and reset the device. If it works, when you click on the speaker icon in the task bar, you should get a dialog for just the volume.
I haven't tried this with my particular version of WM 6.5.x, but it worked on the stock WM 6.5.
could be done by simple script.
I have a script which automatically change backlight settings every morning and evening.
it's very similar thing, you only need to change values for registry entries in it.
Suppose on rhodium volume could be change directly through registry.
or you may find it on xda or I'll send it if you want.
these are those entries:
[HKEY_CURRENT_USER\ControlPanel\Volume]
"Ringer"=dword:99999999
from 00000000 to FFFFFFFF = level
and for vibrate:
[HKEY_CURRENT_USER\ControlPanel\Sounds\RingTone0]
"Sound"="*none*"
OR
"Sound"="*vibrate*"
this just came:

Brenda, did you ever get this working (a shortcut to a specific place in settings)? If not I've come across another way to accomplish it that's pretty simple, let me know and I can create the link for you to put on your startmenu or wherever
create an ANSI file backlightTimes.lnk with this text inside:
1#ctlpnl cplmain.cpl,3,1
==
1# - num of chars -ignored by new wm
ctlpnl - calling cpl files
cplmain - main cp applet
3 - internal code - ID of applet window
1 - open on 2nd TAB
problem is some contrl panel windows are ignoring last parameter (TAB) and this one is, so you need to click again, then make your settings and click to confirm. Still not too easy
