Yes I imagine many of us are waiting eagerly to see how this works out

like on every ppc - phisically install new ram chip.
but before that procedure i need to know if ram is locked on 64mb or free to scan.
on dell x51v ram is unlocked. and upgrade to 64mb is pretty simple.

Sorry, what I meant was to see if it is indeed locked or unlocked
I can't imagine any part of the SYS or MSXIP will be a problem ... it really just boils down to how the OEMXIP will handle it.
Kudos to you for doing this!
I have wondered if this was possible ever since I realised how painfully limiting 64MB is to this device.
Please share as much detail about the procedure as you are willing to

Oh ... damn, I just realised something as I posted that ... I think there may well be an issue with you using an existing cooked ROM ... see this memory map from a Trinity ROM I have cooked:
Memory Map...
SLOT 0: 0x02000000 - 0x01e00000 (END: 0x00060000, 0 MODULES)
0x02000000 - 0x01fe0000 - ROM 0
0x01fa0000 - 0x01e00000 - ROM 1
SLOT 1: 0x04000000 - 0x02020000 (END: 0x02020000, 298 MODULES)
RAM IMAGE: 0x80000000 - 0x80276928
RAM: 0x80277000 - 0x802ac000 - Used for kernel modules
0x802ac000 - 0x83a00000 - 55 MB free
Click to collapse
Now that is in the kitchen itself ... it's memory addressing is setup for 64MB prior to any contact with the actual device
I will have to investigate in the kitchen some more to see if that RAM image address range can be altered ... will look into it and post back.
We may need to enlist the advice of some of the more hardcore devs on xda-dev (like those who wrote these kitchen tools) to work it out.
EDIT: At this stage I am pretty sure that you will need (someone) to modify the "RAM end" address (and probably relocate all the other addresses to suit) somewhere in the XIP ... probably the NK.exe or possibly in the ROMHDR ... sorry this particular stuff is still a little out my league I'm afraid.
The answer will no doubt involve some of the techniques outlined in this thread:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=438676
If I can be of any more help I will get back to you.

I was wondering about the physical changing of the chip. I'm assuming it is a soldered chip? I've never really looked inside to determine that. I went in to fix a loose vibrator, but never looked around.
Don't tell my wife.

About vibrator or looking around?

Not that I have tested it but I would be pretty sure that the Samsung vs Qualcomm CPU difference would spoil that plan

Indeed, in both of them. The best choice is to use an nk.exe of P3600i (rev3), the romhdr.bin is for cooking as P3600i has 128MB it should be ok.

There was a P3600i that had 128M ram???
I know we have double the Storage mem of the Trinity (256M) but my "i" model and every other one I am aware of still only have 64M ram.

We are in exactly the same boat as you guys ... that's why I have put all that effort into cleaning up the VM Slot0 lately.
The only real difference is that we don't need to go nuts removing SYS packages to eek out extra bits of Storage mem. Even the biggest of roms fits reasonably onto 256M.

Actually yes that is true, I forgot about that. lol, not that we ever have enough ram to run anything that will tax the CPU enough to tell the difference
So again ... I think some serious hex hacking (or G'reloc skills) would be required on the NK.exe to change those RAM address locations to make use of the larger RAM chip.

Ops! It hought that it was the 128MB in RAM too.
Caution whith removing every module from slot0. Some modules need to run in slot 0 because of security reasons... basically are some old modules, and as we are using WM5 drivers...
The faster CPU is the reason why the nk.exe of P3600 is not working in P3600i.
In the thread of erviuskitchen, ervius provided to me a modified nk.exe (for P3600) which reclaimed more RAM. You can try it...
The g'reloc part is the same, as we haven't a new nk.exe we only have 2 slots to fit modules...

Oh, believe me it was a painstaking process of identifying just what SYS modules I needed to convert to get exactly slot0=empty & slot1=full
I would never recmod anything from OEM for the reasons you outlined (and there are plenty of SYS modules that I would never do either). I pretty much tried my best to only recmod modules for large exe & dll that were not being utilised all the time anyway. Judging by the stability I now have I think it has paid off

Interesting, I will have to check that out. Unfortunately because I didn't start cooking until wonderful tools like VK were already here, I never had to learn all that heavy low level stuff from manual XIP porting and so I am kinda learning some of it in reverse now

Thanks for the effort
I tried the untouched pdaviet version but had a couple issues with it, but will try your modified version.
Keyboard is back to looking presentable!!! Thanks algasystems. Hey sanjay I still have the Windows Mobile Lawn boot screen though... It looks the same as the pdaviet rom I think... I'm not gonna reflash back to check but i'm pretty sure.
I guess it's a good thing you started this thread... the vulcan was probably going to loose it any day now.
I'm using the 4700 rom editor for mods, what are you using.
Thanks for saving me the work of cleaning up the rom!!!
Later..
Chemong: I wish you good luck, but don't believe you will find my variation fixes any issues such as battery problems. This is just a cleaner version of the same rom.
MannyMania: Interesting that you are still seeing the lawn. Here's the boot screen I now see. Oh well, at least the keyboard is fixed. I don't intend to do anymore to this since it now is good enough until Kozhura returns but hopefully others will take this and improve it.
I've used Vivi's kitchen in the past, but for simple changes such as these, I just use mamaich's tools directly. I credited Chamine in earlier posts for the boot splash change tips.
Hope this works for you.
Regards.
Just flashed to HX4700 PDAVIET wm6.1 and the keyboard looks familiar to me, thanx.
Ciao
Just a note:
The first time I tried the PDAViet version, I saw the rather undesireable bootsplash. I tried re-flashing the previous WM6.0, which did not un-do the bootsplash.
I found that the only way to get the original blue and white HP bootsplash is to re-flash your device with the official WM5 upgrade. If you don't have the WM5 upgrade, I bet any of the WM2003 ROM update patches will yield the same results (just visit HP's website and search for your device to visit the downloads).

(This only applies if you want to revert back to WM6.0.)
Nice job, Sanjay! I ony had PDAVIet's version installed for a few minutes before I promptly removed it. You have solved every issue I had with their version.
what did i do wrong?
First of all, greetings and thanks to everyone who made WM6 possible on hx4700!
I noticed that my device shows only 54.33 program memory? On your screenshot it shows 100 and something. How to enable this?
Thanks!

Interesting. If people are seeing the PDAVIET splash and I'm not, your explanation may be why. When I reflashed my 4700 with the latest ROM, my previous flash may not have been undone. So thank you for the experiments.
Because of the capabilities of the 4700 (e.g. no phone), I believe this ROM can be made even leaner. I will try to repeat your steps and fix the flash the next time.
Do you think reflashing with a Kozhura WM6 ROM would accomplish the same thing? Even the thought of reverting back to the HP WM5 disaster causes me to shudder.

Thank you Vivi. I've found your kitchen to be excellent as well and a great help for ROM tuning. I also read your tips including ones to remove the RGU files, but PDAVIET already had these deleted so I did not need to remove them. I still feel though that for the 4700 capabilities, there are other files that can be removed to free up more space. I will experiment more to see what I can do with this.

Sanjay

Thanks Sanjay,
rgu files are needed in using ROM Kitchen.
If no rgu files in ROM, no way to re-packages from that ROM and use ROM Kitchen.
I want to try this ROM but I also want to add my favorite programs in this ROM also.If no rgu files, then I have to manually add and edit it.
I am working with WM6.1 ROM for ASUS P525 and fixing WiFi error with no success , so no time to build Hx4700 WM6.1 from scratch.
BTW,thanks.

any update on the upgrade?
another question freepk (if you still read this thread)...
Did you have to make a customised ROM to recognise the new amount of RAM?
Sorry all for long pause.
For RAM upgrade u just need two things
1) Hardware chips upgrade, i use two HYB25L512160AC-7.5 (like in other devides, Uni, 4700, Axim)
2) Patched NK.EXE in XIP, i made test firmware for this - http://4pda.ru/forum/attach/1592182/n560.128mb.rar
Without software patch u will work fine with new chips, but OS can use just 64mb.
U can also try translate this thread with google - http://4pda.ru/forum/index.php?showtopic=75722

That's a fantastic idea to find a repair center to upgrade the ram!!! by the way, how much did you pay to get the upgrade done?
about the patch, i don't know the exact solution, but here's what I found http://wiki.xda-developers.com/index.php?pagename=Universal_128MBRAM. seems like tweaking the NK.exe in the ROM is the way to go.... perhaps try contacting newplow on his website for the WM6 series about it.

Hi RAYMOND A
Here is the URL from the repair center : http://www.srsgmbh.de/index_.html
After the Ram upgrade made by the repair center you have to flash the ROM yourself to an patched wm5 version. I'm pretty sure i used the ROM from freekpk (look for the attachment on the first side).
Loox Memory Upgrade
Thanks ,Why didnt you go for a 256mb upgrade and will the system recognise it?
As i can read on the translated Russian side (http://4pda.ru/forum/index.php?showtopic=75722) the are incompatibilities between the 128MB and the 64MB chips.

How to free more RAM???

I am a WM6 user (Faman 3.3 light), I have tried may other firmwares (6.0 or 6.1) but I am facing the same issue with all of them: some programs need a lot of memory (RAM, not storage) to be executed.
Since I have been using Igo 8, this becomes crucial as this software is really great but requires a lot of RAM... (I have already ran out of memory when giving a phone call whith Igo guiding on a long trip!).
Currently with my Faman firmware, after a cold start I have 27,5Mb free RAM. I have only one tiny today plug-in - Metrix - to adjust the backlight.
Has anybody found a firmware that would allow to have more free RAM?
OR
Do you have solutions, tweaks, or softwares to increase that amount of memory?
Again I am not talking about the storage memory, but only the program memory or RAM.
Thx!
Hello, you could try another backlight manager that doesn't need a today plugin but a short cut ( on a hardware button) like this one http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=379270
Perhaps you can use from time to time the OXIOS apps ( freeram and appkiller).
Hope it help you.
Those softwares only free up the memory which has been allocated.
My goal is to free more RAM at the system level to increase the available amount I have after a cold start.
Thanks anyway for your answer.
Any other idea?

You can't do it unless you cook your own ROM, but I haven't seen any Trinity ROM that has more than 28-29 MB free RAM.
Hi,
I have tried lot of roms (wm6, wm6.1) but wm6.1 are really bad in RAM i think...
So I use Schaps 4.30 wm6 rom !!! I think it's great. RAM at start: 28-29mb !!
I have SPB Mobile Shell 2.00 on my Trinity, which need lot ram, but no problem.
I start in this case with about 26-27mb ram and I never seen message on igo8: Memory full or something error. I can call, speak on phone and see my way on igo8 in the SAME TIME !!
I think, this is the best Trinity ROM: Schaps 4.30 wm6 FULL
so, if we cook own rom, we can allocate more mem? so igot to search more .. maybe..
Here you go

Interesting.
I just had blown off the dust of my Magician and ran Igo8 on that ... never seen a navigation-program RUN SO DARN FAST. It has I guess 25fps during navigation, where diamond has .. 4?
So, reading about the WM2003 performances in that topic ...
unfortunitally, after my kid bite my BA, I deleted all the files I had for the BA and I can't find the setoperator.bat file anymore anywhere in the network or XDA
it will be great if the gurus of this forum could check this point and maybe we all going to get a small rocket in our pockets
Is there any tool for viewing and changing the pagepool size for Diamond ROMs ???

I think it has 12MB , Because in a config file when building rom , i found a entry called set_diamond_page12M=1 !!!
Yes. Def PP is 12 MB
I tryed to disable PP and got 123 mb of available RAM.
Then got a very cool device speed) but free memory was only about 55 mb on full rom. so that is useless trick)

Diamond has another mechanism of PP changing. So this tool wont work.
HI~mun_rus..how can change diamond PP?? THX
Hi!
Anybody succeeded to find the tool for changing pagepool size on Diamond ?
from what I remember while chaning the PP at BA ROMs
the change was done on the .nb file - even for the WM 6.1 versions
so it sound strange to me that the diamond has a diffrent window mechnism

This tool works absolutely fine, i used the 1.93.405.1 rom (official uk) which had a 6mb pagepool, and now has a 0mb pagepool and runs like a rocket...
Try it, it definitely works, had no problems for the last 12 hours...

Changing PP to 0 is better?
I saw that the SpeedUP TOR Rom uses 64MB PP size and is supposed to be quite fast as well?

PP set to 0 ??? Really?
TOR 2.0 has a dynamic PagePool (0mb), TOR 2.1 has a 64MB PagePool...
I am currently running 1.93.405.1 with NetCF 3.5 installed via CAB and made default using NetCFCfg.exe... I am running a 0mb PagePool and I have tweaked the rom using DiamondTweak 0.5 setting all TF3D and Performance Tweaks on "advised"
My phone feels superb, quick, stable, and the best bit about it is that it is OEM in appearance which is what I want!
I did run SPB Benchmark and to be honest the values I got were low, but I have never seen my Diamond run so smoothly, even with some of the "Premier Cooked" roms found in this forum...
Now if I can work out how to cook NetCF 3.5 into the rom it will be perfect!

but will this work with a cooked ROM? as some of the chefs apparently lock their ROMs.
I think it will only work on a ROM that is not protected.... Try Panosha 1.8
I noticed other Chef's are releasing ROM's with different page pools configured so you can try which one you like...
Using Panoshas 1.8 with PP set to 0mgbs
Speed is amazing, up till now no probs.
And again I dont run more than 2 progs at the time. Max 3.
Set to close with X.

Dynamic page pool, only 19M free RAM
First impression- it seems this rom has a page pool set to zero. Although the phone is amazingly fast, It has only 20M free RAM initially, without trying to install anything. Also- the memory vary down to 16M from time to time without any open app. SKTOOLS makes it 21M but it is too low for my needs. I have changed PP to be 2M and will re-flash and report.
Besides that, from 4 minutes playing with it, very nice look and feel. Will keep posting results soon.

Great ROM but not for me
So sorry to say that, but I can't have a use of this rom. i love everything about it, really, It is well cooked, with everything i need and very little to add.
But it has too much RAM occupied all the time. I tried canceling tasks and gain memory and it does not get enough free RAM for me. To begin with only 48M RAm are available (Chanvi gets 51M) and about 65%-66% is taken at all times without any plugin. iGO will not run properly with less than 20M RAM free. I am short 4-5M to be happy, so although i really think it is one hack of a rom, I can't use it for my needs.
If you don't need memory like i am- I recommend it. Best SIP/Keyboard and GUI I have seen up to date... just memory kills me.

nice feedback bigE!
very informative
Last V49 was good and I believe that this one is good too. I am against mixing of Manila2D and Titanium especially for Trinity. We need as much free RAM and Storage as we can get. So there is no need to have two interfaces. I tried to contact PhamQuang but without any success so am asking you people especially you arnooo to try to arrange with PhamQuang to cook Titanium only ROM.
Thanks.
Guys, if you want to have a lot of free RAM, my advice is stop using Manila2D or TF3D especially on WM 6.5!
The rom has a bug "RING TONE" - This ring tone file is corrupted or unavaible please choose a different ring tone .. the ring tone are all corruped

Ahhh, great advice. I don't use CHome, M2D and SPB when I need RAM freed. I turn today plugins off when I need memory yet even as 'naked' this rom is about 10M short of memory. Chanvi has cooked some better memory sensitive roms than that. However- as far as GUI and beauty, I like this one better. So in the matter of chosing between beauty and memory, alas, I chose Chanvi's.
There is no one Oz. of criticism here. Just an opinion.

This is a great rom I have had a good play with quite a few now and this one seems to be the better one as far as speed. I had a few problems with getting tomtom 7.9 to work but over come these all ok now.
GREAT WORK.
I tried to install this rom from as much as 4 different computers running XP and Vista, and could not flash. Every time the RUU gives me the Error 200 saying I must update the flashing tool. I tried the same ROM image with different RUU versions and none of them seems to work.
Am I missing something??
Thanks!!

downloaded it twice from different pc-s, different networks must be something else
It works grat. I really like the look, and it's really fast. Only problem is that it eats too much memory. I hope newer version will be bit more optimized.

Do you have SPL and radio rom updated. Try this link http://trinityguides.info , and try to update this first.
Do you have p3600 or p3600(I)? Very important!
This ROM is for P3600.
Regards,
Pozdrav drug Slovenac
I am currently running an older version of WM6.5 and did all upgrades before with no problems at all.
Radio: 1.56.70.11
SPL: SPR-1.20.Olipro
Thanks!
Pa pozdrav nazaj
Maybe something happened with that SPL. The last thing that I can suggest to you is to try to flash the HARD SPL again. Im using Des' Crash-Proof SPL and I think that I also had a problem with the Olipro.
Do you flashing from the three color screen or from the booted device?
Tried both, from bootloader and booted device :S I will now try to install this Hard-SPL you suggested and the new V51 rom
