Hi to all, I have a question: when I drive, and I have to send a sms, it's very dangerous to look at the phone to write the letters; is there a program that works as "vocal keyboard", so that I can spell the sms text letter by letter, and the program write it for me?
Thanks!
not as far as i know. here is a tip, park to the side of the road with the hazard lights on, type the sms and send it then continue your jurny

yeah, indeed is what I do now
For the other stuff, like contact, calling, I use VoiceCommander, that works well, but I'd like so much to tell a sms to my phone...
So does anybody know if it is possibile?
[If no, I think it's simple do write an app to do this (I'm a .Net developer), but I didn't find nowhere a SDK for speech recognition.....]
I sometimes wonder how we managed to live our lives before mobile phones were invented lol . I mean ,can you imagine driving down a motorway and nobody rings or sends a text message ..........lol
In FIAT veicles, there is blue and me from microsoft and it reads. However, by some reason, MS didnt export that to Windows Phone.
Maybe withh MS tellme...
I think this only works in the US at the moment, but hopefully will become worldwide eventually..

Hi all,
very strange this. There are four users of XDA-devices in my office (all on T-Mobile), myself (XDA2s), an XDA2, and two Imates (the XDA2 ones). Now, at random times throughout the day we will all recieve a text message with no sender number, but the text of the message is '13779538669'. I have never received this message on my other mobile phone (SE K700i, Voda), and I don't receive it on my Nokia when I use my T-Mobile SIM card in there!
I also only receive this message when I'm in this particular area (WA15, Hale, Cheshire), although a colleague says he gets it when he goes near Manchester Airport (5 miles from here).
What the hell? I know, I wouldn't believe it either unless I'd seen it happening but I promise you, it does happen!
In case you don't believe me :

Any thoughts?
Thanks

Its possible to send no-number SMS messages from services like http://theSMSzone.com
Maybe one of your friends is playing a prank on you?

Thanks for the reply. It seems unlikely that this is a prank, as four different people get the message and only when we are in the office, or near to the airport! I think it's a broadcast from somewhere nearby, I dunno, I'm still confused :?
Can you check what message centre the message is coming from?
Are these messages Premium-based ?(do they show up on your bill?)
Vodafone NL is unable to send out messages with the normal four-digit numbers... (5 for the uk). Instead they use eleven-digit numbers...
Perhaps in the UK it's the same?
I'd check if you have to pay for receiving those messages...
On the Vodafone website you should be able to retreive info on who's using the specific number...
Goog luck!

Agreed.
Especially since SMS's like these seem to be free coming from theSMSzone.com
Hi,
thanks for the replies, and sorry for the delay in me coming back! The messages aren't coming from a Bluetooth device, because my Bluetooth is always switched off unless I'm in the car.
I don't know how to find the service centre they're coming from, can anybody tell me how?
The messages do not appear on our bills. One thing I've noticed, now that I've upgraded to the 1.40 ROM, is that the sender now has a name of 'Network' rather than blank as it was before.
Obviously there's no harm in these messages, but they're a pain and I'd like to work out where they're coming from to satisfy my own curiousity[sp]!
my uncle has the same thing qith hi unlocked xda2i
he has a t mobile contarct and the messages seem to come fromthe network,
i will have to speak to him to find out why and when they come, but my advice is to ask tmobile about theae messages as i belive there comming from them.

Hi Ariel,
thanks for your post, and great to hear someone else has this problem and not just us! I spoke today to our service provider, who'd never heard of this before, so he spoke to T-Mobile who also claim to have never heard of this before. They want me to keep a log of dates/times when the message appears  , so that's what I'll do.

...have you tried to disable cell broadcast in your phone settings menu? this looks very much like a cell broadcast message, i can enable this on my german vodafone used device and get the area code on this way but i get also lots of bull**** notifications taht way. go to settings/phone and i guess its the third tab on the bottom (maybe fourth) where you can find channel settings for cell broadcast - unable it and it should be gone.
feedback welcome!

Hi Lutz,
thanks for the suggestion. I'm on the 1.4 ROM, so there are five tabs at the bottom of that screen; Phone, Services, Network, Band, More. In More, there is Broadcast Channels, and this box is unticked.
Thanks again

One of my pastimes is sending inoccuous messages and pictures to peoples phones over BT. I've been successfully doing this for ages with my Sonyerricson K700i. I've had fun sending ringtones and themes to people for free
When I attempt to do this with the XDA it fails saying the remote device doesn't accept messages this way. I assume its cos the XDA is using a different protocol to the K700i. Is there anything I can install to address this?
Cheers,
Steve
don't know about your question but would also be interested in the answer.

Maybe becasue the default setting of the XDA is for the remote device to promt a passkey and for the sender to type in that key, that way, the sender cant figure out the key.
a possible solution?!?
Allright, i will give it a try to, .
First of all the so called os systems on the pohe's are different.
ringtone's (mp3's) should be possible to send; when they are supported on both phones, otherwise he stays in your sms incomings box till you delete it.
And like others explained to you both need to have the same passkey for doing this.
on some older phone models it was possible to do this due an security isue in bluetooth.
But time does not stand still and update come often, this bug become's less vurnable for phones.
So best way i now to send a ringtone is, with a passkey al my friends know to use "0000" is basic so you putt that in.
Or take a held on your friends phone (when he is not awhere) to make them autopairing.
just like a bluetooth headset.
Hope some others have better solutions for this.
:?: :!: :?:
Cheers guys, I know about pairing On teh K700i though, I can normally send a contact to say a Sony Ericsson T610 or Nokia 6310i without interaction by the recipient. The XDA IIs seems unable to do this.
I believe that its because the XDA hasn't got the correct protocol. Should be Object push instead of Object exchange, am I right?
Steve
I have been searching for something of this sort but was not able to..
Bluejacking
I also like to do this and im sure i have been able to send contacts to the phones mentioned. With the latest bluetooth stack there should also be no problem sending files. I know I have sent files ot my brothers phone without pariing but I had to alter my bluetooth profile.
In any rate this software http://www.net-cell.com/MP/ sends messages to any phones in range continously without the need for action on the recipiants phone. It works on the XDA2s.

I don't know if am missing something here guys, but I am sending files over bluetooth to all supported devices(Nokia,SonyEricsson,Samsung...)all the time from my MDAII(Himalaya)...
I just go to windows explorer(not Resco),select the file, press and hold, then select beam file....then I can detect every single bluetooth device with bluetooth on in range...just select it and...voila...the other device gets notified that someone is sending a file, and,by accepting it,it will be sent...
am still feeling am missing something,it cannot be that easy...
Cheers...
RAGO
When I try and send, I get a message saying the device doesn't support the recieving of messages. Pairing I can do but on the K700i I used to be able to send a contact to certain devices no problem.
When I select 'Beam' I get nothing. Seems to be only for Infra-Red.
I also tried Meeting Point and it crashed on my XDA IIs
Steve
Well all.
Is none of you aviable to send a contact?
To do so called bluejacking on my xda,
I simpy create a contact called "bluejacked"
Then i go to my contacts,
And hold down the conact called "bluejacked.
In the menu what pops up i find a button.
Something called "send contact by bluetooth". i'm not so sure
then i let my device search for bleutooth devices.
Once someone's bluethooth is on i simply push on the device in my screen.
And 90% of the message's i send this way are delivered.
don't need of a passphrase when you're sending a contact.
Did this with my xda and a sony ericson k750 the both worked in both way's to almost all phone's
Is this also working for other XDA phone's?
Is it just me, or is there anyway to remove the option to Send a Message to any numbers not designated as "Mobile"?
In my address book, numbers designated as Home or Work still give me the option to Text them.
Its frustrating to accidentally send a Text to my Wife's work number, because I selected the wrong option in People, when it shouldnt even show as an option unless its a Mobile.
Any one able to help on this?

I'm not trying to sound mean or anything but maybe just don't text the wrong number...?? Generally you should probably know your wife's cell phone number vs. her work number.

Yes, I do, and you are right, user error is the most at fault here.
I know my wife's cell number, but I hardly know anyone elses. Thats why I keep a detailed Google address book, so that I dont have to.
However I still think its silly that it allows you to designate numbers as mobile or not, but then automatically gives you an option to text non-mobile numbers. Is it not?
And if it is silly, its something Id like to correct if I could, hence asking the community if anyone else has seen this, and knows of any way to address it besides always pushing the decision on the user.
That's a good point. I thought that was annoying as well. I do most of my messaging straight from the messaging app but it still shows all numbers. It's a bit annoying.
Sent from my EVO 4G using the XDA App.
Sorry I don't have an answer, just want to say I'm with u on this. I think its reasonable to expect such a genius phone to know it can't send a text to a land line.
Although, as I type this I'm realizing that more companies are using cell phone for their primary lines and employees. Who knows, maybe we will be able to send texts to land lines someday soon. If a regular phone has an lcd for cid display why couldn't it display a text message... things that make you go "hmmm"
I asked a similar question before in a different thread... but does anyone know if the People app source is ever released when they release the source for the EVO ROM?
I imagine the hardest part about excluding the option to message other numbers would be finding the right spot to implement an if statement. Then would it be possible to compile the APK and install that custom version on my phone? While I would be in there I'd probably address the First name sorting problem
I'm 100% with you on this. I know it's part of user control but it shouldn't have to be.
There should be a checkable option in the Messages/SMS app: "Include Non-Mobile Numbers" and it should be off by default.
I also wish you could exclude certain contacts in the Messages/SMS app. There are people at work I would never text but I have their number in case they call me (I often am the "go-to IT guy") so I know who it is.
Ah well, we can hope!
I'm so with everyone on this..It annoys the hell out of me.
but you know what? I found out that apparently Sprint has some kind of service that will txt to landlines.
txt your home phone and you'll see..maybe there is a way to turn that off i dont know. didnt check much further into it

Yes, I've done it by accident many times. Those who I've texted (landline instead of wireless), said they answered the call and was given the option of having my text "read" to them. In fact, I just did it yesterday to my brother, thought I was texting his cell and instead sent it to his home. His wife answered and some "computer lady" read her my text...

I know this version of the G1's Contact.apk has this option (it was my request of the dev lol)
It works on my EVO (2.1 rooted) but MAN it's ugly after using People for the last few days.

I hate to say it but some people's mobile number is their home number. Lots of peep no longer have land lines at all. If you put a filter on what the sms app shows you would likely have as many people unhappy about that as you do this. If your going to error, do it on the side of making things possible as opposed to restricting things is likely the logic in play here.

I thought the messaging app did have that option then I realized I use handsent and it does have a mobile only option in its send settings.
Sent from my PC36100 using XDA App
i guess it depends on how many contacts you have but you could create a group that only contained mobile numbers. Although if you have a significant amount of contacts this would probably be a pain
I created separate "land" contacts for those I text and that have land lines. Lousy but works.

Hi, my company has just changed our phones from G1's to Omnia 7's. I had a handy app on the G1 that I used to forward my SMS's to my personal phone (save carrying both around with me out of office hours). Is there anything available to do this on the Windows mobile 7 omnia at all ? Many thanks
I know that with NoDo you can press and hold on the text you got and it will give you an option to forward it. I don't remember that being there in 7004.

It was there before NoDo... I know cause I dont have NoDo yet and the forward option is indeed there.
Problem is that the OP probably wants an automated process, instead of having to press all SMS's, and for that I don't think there is an application yet.
Hi guys, many thanks for your replies, as Avandor has suggested, I really need this to be an automated process as the phone will probably be at home, so I need it to push it automatically, if possble.
It's been nearly a year now... has any SMS auto-forwarding app popped up yet?
I'm contemplating getting a WP7 phone but need this feature.
Thanks

It just looks like an app that sends pre-written SMSes to specific numbers.
I'm looking for something like this:

It's a security issue / consider Google voice instead

This is not possible in WIndows Phone 7.
Under Windows Mobile 6.5 you could write handlers to intercept text messages as they arrive and do various things, such as send it to an email address using an email account.
But, it would not immiately send. It would go to your outbox and only actually send when you synced.
It's kind of a security issue to allow any application to directly send SMS or make calls without any confirmation. I say kind of because any dev could have called a webservice or done an HTTP post to a site instead. But, imagine a malicious devloper making an app that text messages all of your contacts or random people without your knowledge or confirmation with each send. If they allowed the app you want, they would not be able to stop the malicious app.
You may want to consider Google Voice, since users can SMS the google voice number and it will forward to the numbers or email addresses that you wnat to recieve it on. Then you can reply from any device running a Google Voice app.
OK, so my phone someitmes goes out of sleep mode and lights up as it looks like its about to recieve a text.
Some times is does, sometimes it doesnt.
Sometimes it lights up, and no text, so i open up my web browser and I recieve like 3 texts from earlier times...
anyone know whats up with that? I know its not the sprint network, its phone related...
Also, my friends say they are doing some group text? where they are all in a convo with each other via text i guess... anyone konw what this is about?
and they say they send me messages in this group chat via sms, but i dont receive ANY!
Thanks,
Zack
The wakeup without text might have nothing to do with the missing messages. I've seen WinMo pro2 light up after reception of silent provisioning data.

So if I skip the crazy step then effectively, WinMo drove you to Android. Good
well i know it wakes up everytime im sent a text message that is a group text.
I never get them though, i tested this out via my friends phone.
I guess there is this thing, where you can SMS multiple people at once, and its one big conversation!
Anyone ever hear of this?
My phone i guess doesnt support this since i get none of these, only reg. sms's
Is there an app or soemthing i can get on my winmo?
